Corsair Lapdog Review

We got the chance to take a look at the Corsair Lapdog – a keyboard and mouse tray solution for those of you with home media PCs, and were very impressed with its solid build quality and peripheral integration. The Lapdog’s body has a solid feel that definitely won’t break on you anytime soon and a black aluminum surface that exudes style.

The first compartment location on the Lapdog is where the keyboard is meant to fit. The Lapdog is configured for the dimensions of either the Corsair K65 RGB or K70 keyboards. Once fitted, the keyboard is fairly integrated into the Lapdog and I had no issues reaching the keys while using the Lapdog.

The mousing area is ample enough for most of your gaming needs. I was able to play FPS titles, RPGs, RTS games, and more on its surface and the dimensions are big enough that you won’t have to repetitively lift the mouse and move it back to center.

Additionally, the Corsair Lapdog is great at managing your keyboard and mouse cables thanks to a hidden compartment inside the body of the unit. Finally, the Lapdog also features a nifty USB 3.0 powered hub for all your high-powered peripheral needs or even charging your other mobile devices.

However, the Lapdog has some areas that can definitely be improved upon. First, it gets uncomfortable to use for longer periods of time thanks to the fact that it has no cushioned wrist rest. The solid aluminum surface rubs the skin raw after a while. For short term gaming and computer use, it should be too big of an issue. Also, when on your lap, the Lapdog’s keyboard area is slightly moved to the left side. While this isn’t too bad for WASD gaming, it can be somewhat awkward to do regular typing on.

Thankfully, the underside of the Lapdog features some nice memory foam material that is very comfortable to use with a smart, lap-shaped contour.

At $119 dollars, the Corsair Lapdog definitely has some benefit for those casual gamers looking to play short term gaming sessions from their couches. However, if you do need to plan on playing long, multi-hour sessions of keyboard and mouse gaming, I would look into some other solutions with better comfort.

Corsair K70 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

The Corsair K70 mechanical gaming keyboard is an utter workhorse. Ruggedly-built and featuring crisp mechanical keys, the K70 is more than capable of handling any intense gaming sessions you can throw at it. Sporting a black brushed aluminum body, the K70 is of high strength and low weight in comparison to other mechanical keyboards on the market.

The Corsair K70’s mechanical keys feature crisp and responsive Cherry MX key switches and, while they are a bit too quiet for my tastes (I prefer audible clicks), they are extremely responsive. This all plays into the 104 key rollover and anti-ghosting tech built into the K70. You can jam down a huge number of keys and not get any degradation in input going to the computer.

Installing the K70 is very easy. You simply plug it into a USB 2.0 port and start typing away. The K70 is a macro-less keyboard, so no software needs to be installed in order to use it. Some  may feel the lack of macros to be a drawback but I never use them much in practice.

The lighting scheme on the Corsair K70 is simple. It is just red backlighting with multiple brightness levels. There is an updated model of K70 out, the K70 RGB, which has full RGB lighting instead. I didn’t mind this lack of color variety as the backlighting is bright enough to let me use it in dark rooms and is not distracting.

I was fortunate to try out the K70 in several of my favorite current titles: Fallout 4, DOOM, Master of Orion. The keyboard just works. It may not be super fancy, but it works. I never had to worry about it failing and the K70 never came up short. It even sports a pass through USB port so you can plug your gaming mouse into it. I LOVE this feature. It may seem like a no-brainer, but it makes organizing your desktop and cables a lot easier.

Overall, the Corsair K70 mechanical gaming keyboard is an excellent gaming keyboard for those of you needing sheer performance without all the bells and whistles of super-expensive models. It may not have full RGB lighting or macros but it effortlessly does the two most important jobs a gaming keyboard can do: Being responsive and comfortable.

The Corsair K70 mechanical gaming keyboard retails for $129.99

Nordic Games Unveils ELEX, Sci-Fi Fantasy RPG

Vienna (Austria) – July 1st, 2016: Nordic Games and Piranha Bytes, creators of the Gothic series, are moving into a totally different realm with ELEX. The game is set against the backdrop of a brand new post-apocalyptic science fantasy universe that immerses players in a vast, seamless game world full of interesting characters, mutated creatures, deep moral choices and of course, some thrilling action.

The Story

Magalan, the completely open game world of ELEX, was home to a highly developed civilisation until a catastrophic meteor strike devastated the planet, reducing it to a post-apocalyptic world. The meteor also deposited a substance that is now found in nearly everything: Elex, and each faction uses it in a different way. Every inhabitant of the world is constantly looking for Elex, whether as a substance with magical powers, to use in a weapon or as a pure stimulant.

A Game of Contrasts

ELEX is all about contrasts: science vs fantasy, magic vs laser weapons and logic vs emotions. In ELEX, Piranha Bytes combines all the game elements that RPG fans love and has placed them in an entirely new environment: a science-fantasy setting. These contrasts are also evident in the various factions.

elex-game-1

Use of Elex

While one faction, the Albs, consider the ingestion of Elex as part of their cult, the Clerics group ban the consumption of Elex on religious grounds, and use it to build their high-tech weapons. The Berserkers however, a people who live in harmony with nature, process Elex into mana and use it to craft magical weapons. As for the Bandits, their society has no fixed rules, but they live by the credo: “Take anything you can grab, or someone else will.”

The “Piranha Bytes” Philosophy

“We’ve been thinking about the setting for ELEX for almost 10 years, and we finally have the chance to implement our ideas. The mix of sci-fi and fantasy offers an incredible number of opportunities and cool contrasts that we can play around with. The fans of Gothic or Risen will recognise our unique game philosophy and ELEX builds on that solid basis. ELEX will be the most dynamic and realistic RPG sim ever!” Björn Pankratz, Piranha Bytes

ELEX is being developed for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 simultaneously and the game release is scheduled for Q1 2017.

Features of the Game

  • Sci-Fi Meets Fantasy: A post-apocalyptic universe that seamlessly blends science-fiction and fantasy elements.
  • Reason vs. Emotion: The player himself decides which way to go; there’s no right or wrong.
  • 100% Authentic: The game AI takes decisions that make the game action and events perfectly logical.
  • Epic Combat System: The complex combat system and total control over the characters enable you to “read” your enemies.
  • Jetpack Frenzy: Jetpack makes vertical exploration so much easier and offers a whole new dimension of fresh opportunities.
  • RPG True to its Name: The player’s decisions influence the course of the entire game.

French Tanks Arrive in World of Tanks Console Edition

June 30, 2016 — Wargaming today announced the massive content update for the free-to-play console game World of Tanks is now available to download globally on PlayStation®4, Xbox One and Xbox 360. Update 3.1 aligns all content between the three consoles with the addition of France to PlayStation®4, and a new French tank line to all console platforms. The update also includes two new weather variant maps, Steppes Sandstorm and Erlenberg Blizzard, and announces an all-new chained-op series to earn the Tier VII AMX CDC, which kicks off July 15.

The complete French tank line has joined the ranks of PlayStation®4 featuring 44 of the most specialized and highly-mobile vehicles the French nation is known for, offering players a brand new nation with unique characteristics to unleash on the battlefield. Both platforms have also been enhanced with one more French branch featuring the FCM 36, Renault R35, Somua S35, SARL 42, Renault G1, AMX 30 1er Prototype and the AMX 30 B.

Tankers can take their new Tier 9 and 10 French vehicles for a spin on two new console-exclusive weather variant maps: Steppes Sandstorm and Erlenberg Blizzard, both highlighting treacherous driving conditions while adding a challenging and exciting layer of gameplay. Steppes Sandstorm, a generally open map, has been blasted with a dangerous sandstorm, creating an eerily desolate terrain with extreme low-visibility. Erlenberg Blizzard is snowy wasteland, with ruins separated by a massive river, which would cutoff access to the other team, only now the river is frozen, offering free-reign on the territory and new angles of attack.

Wreck-It Ralph Sequel Announced

BURBANK, Calif. (June 30, 2016) – Wreck-It Ralph is heading back to the big screen, and this time, he’s wrecking the internet. The Oscar®-nominated Walt Disney Animation Studios team from the original film is re-teaming for the follow-up, including director Rich Moore (“Zootopia,” “The Simpsons”) and producer Clark Spencer (“Zootopia,” “Bolt”). Phil Johnston (writer, “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Zootopia,” “Cedar Rapids”) joins Moore as director and a writer on the project. John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman return as the bad-guy-turned-good, Ralph, and the girl with the game-winning glitch, Vanellope von Schweetz. The untitled sequel will hit theaters—literally—on March 9, 2018.

The filmmakers and Reilly made the announcement on Facebook Live today: https://www.facebook.com/Disney/videos/10153760073335954/

“From the moment we started working on the first ‘Wreck-It Ralph,’ we knew there were so many possibilities with these characters,” said Moore, who has been developing it since shortly after the release of the first film, and while directing this year’s critically-acclaimed hit “Zootopia” with Byron Howard. “This time, Ralph’s wrecking wreaks havoc on the Web—as only he can do. Characters we loved in the first film are back and we are ecstatic to be working with them—and the actors who voice them—once again.”

“The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope,” said Johnston. “The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless.”

“Ralph is a character very near and dear to my heart,” added Reilly. “I’m really looking forward to playing the big lug again. Making the first ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ was one of the most special experiences I’ve ever had and I’m really looking forward to bringing him back to life. So many kids I’ve met all over the world are excited to see him again, too. They tell me all the time!”

When “Wreck-It Ralph” opened on Nov. 2, 2012, it turned in the highest opening weekend ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film at the time of release. Nominated for an Oscar® and Golden Globe® for best animated feature, “Wreck-It Ralph” won the PGA Award for outstanding producer of an animated theatrical motion picture as well as five Annie Awards, including best animated feature, director, cast and screenplay. The film was named best animated feature by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, earned outstanding achievement in casting for an animated feature by the Casting Society of America, and won the Kids’ Choice Award for favorite animated movie.

DISNEY CROSSY ROAD WRECKED

At 12 p.m. PT today, Disney’s hit mobile game, Disney Crossy Road, will be wrecked by Ralph in celebration of the announcement. As fans play through the 12 different Disney and Pixar worlds of Disney Crossy Road, Ralph may appear and ‘wreck’ part of their gameplay.

“Wreck-It Ralph has been one of the most popular worlds to play in Disney Crossy Road, so it made perfect sense to celebrate Ralph’s return by letting him go outside his world and ‘wreck’ other parts of the game,” said Chris Heatherly, SVP & GM, Disney Apps and Games. “We are big fans of the first film, as are our players, and can’t wait to see how the next chapter unfolds.”

“GIGANTIC” DATE-CHANGE

The animated feature “Gigantic,” originally announced as Disney’s March 9, 2018, release, will be released on November 21, 2018.
