World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – A Pandemic System Board Game Announced

Today, Asmodee and Z-Man Games launched World of Warcraft®: Wrath of the Lich King® – A Pandemic System Board Game. The Wrath of the Lich King Board Game blends the fun of the co-operative Pandemic gameplay system with the thrill of epic World of Warcraft quests for a gripping tabletop experience. Become a hero of Azeroth as your team of classic World of Warcraft characters work together to defeat the Lich King and his undead Scourge army through combat, tense battles and fantastical quests. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – A Pandemic System Board Game is available for purchase at Target for an MSRP of $59.99 USD.

The Wrath of the Lich King Board Game invites players to travel to Northrend within the world of Azeroth as one of seven legendary World of Warcraft heroes in a journey to vanquish the Scourge and their corrupted leader, the Lich King. To reach him, heroes must use their unique abilities to fight the undead and complete dangerous quests, weakening the Lich King’s power before a climactic face-off with Arthas. Master Hero Cards and use Quest rewards wisely to stand a chance at winning – the Scourge are mighty, and they are many.

“At its core, Pandemic is about working together and conquering a big threat. It’s a game of hope and tension, of teamwork and strategy. Taking those core elements of the game and mapping them to a new theme with larger-than-life characters, an iconic villain, and a fantastic setting with World of Warcraft was an exciting puzzle,” Beth Erikson, Marketing Manager at Z-Man Games, said. “We wanted this game to be truly heroic and that meant going all out on new art, sculpted figures, new game challenges, and new character abilities that all fit together to feel like both a Pandemic and a World of Warcraft game.”

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – A Pandemic System Board Game includes:

  • The Pandemic system with familiar mechanics and cooperative gameplay, now tweaked to embrace the World of Warcraft universe. Familiar heroes from World of Warcraft have unique abilities that can topple hordes of undead scourge – so long as they’re used wisely.
  • An extra-large game board featuring iconic Northrend locations and structures including forts, temples, battlegrounds, and more. With each setting pulled straight from the game, it’s like a guided tour through the most fantastical (and fierce) this frozen tundra has to offer.
  • Legendary World of Warcraft characters with detailed and sculpted plastic figures, including Thrall, Warchief of the Horde; Varian Wrynn, King of Stormwind; and Sylvanas Windrunner, Banshee Queen of the Forsaken. Also featured are classic heroes like fabled paladin, Highlord Tirion Fordring; founding member of the dwarven Explorers’ League Muradin Bronzebeard; Lady Jaina Proudmoore; and the matriarch of the Blood Knights, Lady Liadrin.
  • Quests that challenge players to adventure across the frozen wastes of Northrend to battle monstrous entities, destroy evil relics, and more. The heroes of Azeroth must defeat the major threats of Northrend and clear the way to the Lich King’s fortress of Icecrown Citadel. These threats are represented by quests, and players must complete 3 to enter the endgame: the siege of Icecrown Citadel. Completed quests also grant Reward Cards, like the powerful Gunship Support – quickly moving a hero to any space to deal with a threat – and the life-saving Borrowed Time, which grants a player three extra actions in a turn.
  • Hero Cards that give players an edge against their enemies in the form of equipment for more attack power during combat, special mounts that allow players to move more spaces on their turn, healing potions to restore hit points, and much more.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King – A Pandemic System Board Game is developed by Z-Man Games in collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment and published by Asmodee.

Monster Hunter Rise Gets PC Release Date and Demo Details

The critically-acclaimed, top-selling Monster Hunter™ series reached new heights earlier this year with the global release of Monster Hunter Rise™ on Nintendo Switch™. Receiving widespread praise for its trademark action RPG gameplay, exciting new features, and continued free post-launch support, Monster Hunter Rise is opening the gates of Kamura Village to PC players starting on January 12, 2022. Prior to the full game’s release, a free public demo will be made available on Steam beginning on October 13. In addition to confirming specifics for Monster Hunter Rise on PC, new information was also revealed for all Monster Hunter Rise players including details on upcoming collaboration content and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak™, the monstrous new expansion which will be available simultaneously for Nintendo Switch and PC in summer 2022.

Monster Hunter Rise is the latest installment in the action RPG series and transports players to Kamura Village, a colorful and tranquil setting that attracts visitors with its unique culture and innovative hunting technologies. The core gameplay experience in Monster Hunter Rise stays true to the highly-praised previous Monster Hunter entries, where hunters must equip their armor and select from one of the 14 different weapon types. As players defeat monsters and progress through the game, items carved from fallen foes can be used to craft unique weapons and armor that will increase their chances of future success and survival. Hunters can tackle these challenges solo, or with up to three other hunters in cooperative local or online play.

Monster Hunter Rise evolves the series by introducing several new and exciting mechanics for hunters to master. For the first time in a Monster Hunter game, wire-based grappling actions can be performed by using a “Wirebug” while standing or in mid-air, adding an all-new level of aerial maneuverability to hunting strategies and attacks. Additionally, the game debuts the “Wyvern Riding” technique, which allows players to temporarily take control of a monster and yields spectacular battle sequences during a hunt. Monster Hunter Rise also introduces new hunting partners called Palamutes, personalized and rideable “Canyne” companions that will provide players with a new set of attack options. The “Canyne” Palamute companions join the series favorite “Felyne” Palicoes in assisting players while out on a hunt.

At launch, the full version of Monster Hunter Rise on PC will include all major post-launch content that is available in the Nintendo Switch version through the end of November 2021. More information about future content and timing will be available at a later date. The PC version will feature customizable optimizations, allowing hunters to enjoy their journey in 4K resolution and with ultrawide (21:9 aspect ratio) support, while also offering uncapped framerates and high-resolution textures. Monster Hunter Rise on PC will be available on Steam for MSRP $59.99 on January 12, 2022 and is available now for pre-purchase. The game is currently available on Nintendo Switch for MSRP $59.99.

A demo for Monster Hunter Rise on PC will launch on October 13, giving hunters ample time to enjoy a sampling of this new Monster Hunter experience before the full game releases on Steam. The PC demo provides players with numerous hunting options, including offline solo and online multiplayer (up to 4 players) using all 14 weapon types. For new hunters, the PC demo will provide a “Training” option and a “Wyvern Riding” tutorial, each offering useful tips and instructions. When hunters are ready, three different hunting quests and monsters are available to experience, each providing distinct levels of challenge from Beginner (Great Izuchi) to Intermediate (Mizutsune) and Advanced (Magnamalo).

Following the release of Monster Hunter Rise on PC, players of both platform versions can look forward to the newly revealed Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the monstrous expansion which will be available for purchase to all players in summer 2022. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak includes a new storyline and new base of operations, as well as new locales, monsters, gameplay features, quest rank (Master), and more. Hunters must own the base game and complete the 7-star Hub Quest called “Serpent Goddess of Thunder” in Monster Hunter Rise before beginning Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. All progress from the base game will transfer over to the expansion when played on the same system.

The identity of the eerie new monster featured in the debut trailer for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has been confirmed as Malzeno, a fierce elder dragon who will serve as the expansion’s flagship monster. Also joining the upcoming expansion, Shogun Ceanataur is a returning crab-like monster who first appeared in Monster Hunter 2.

For current Monster Hunter Rise players, a haunting new Capcom Collab was also announced today and will feature the brave knight Arthur from Ghosts ‘n Goblins: Resurrection™. After completing a challenging Event Quest, players can don Arthur’s iconic armor and the hunter’s throwing knives transform into lances, the classic weapon from the legendary series. Music from the recently-released Ghosts n’ Goblins: Resurrection will provide a backdrop to the heroic hunting action, and when a quest is completed as Arthur, a special cutscene will be bestowed upon its victors. This special collaboration quest will be available for Switch players beginning on October 28.

Finally, and also first revealed today, Monster Hunter is teaming up with SEGA to celebrate Sonic’s 30th anniversary in Monster Hunter Rise. More details on this exciting new collaboration will be shared soon, prior to the Event Quest’s release in November.

Far Cry 6 Original Game Soundtrack Released

Today Ubisoft digitally releases Far Cry® 6 Original Game Soundtrack – Music by Pedro Bromfman. The soundtrack features 21 tracks from the highly anticipated sixth main entry in Ubisoft’s critically acclaimed Far Cry® franchise – set to release October 7 worldwide on Xbox Series X, PlayStation®5, Xbox One, PlayStation®4, Stadia, Amazon Luna and for Windows PC exclusively on both the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store.

Composer Pedro Bromfman said of the soundtrack release, “The album is based on a very modern score, drenched in lush soundscapes, driving percussion, processed organic instruments and a ton of synthesizers.” He also explained the inspiration behind the score, “We tried to capture the soul of Yara, and its characters, by rooting the score on traditional Latin American and Caribbean music, while being completely free to experiment with contemporary sounds, elements and techniques, in hopes of creating something very fresh and unique.”

Finally, Bromfman stated, “The score for Far Cry 6 overflows with distinctive, haunting melodies and character themes, accompanying and further immersing the players in their amazing journey through Yara. A journey full of beauty, violence, adrenaline and passion.”

Developed by Ubisoft Toronto, Far Cry® 6 immerses players into the adrenaline-filled world of a modern-day guerrilla revolution set in Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time in the heart of the Caribbean. Playing as local Yaran Dani Rojas, players will explore and entire island nation and join the revolution to liberate its people from the oppressive rule of dictator Antón Castillo and his teenage son Diego – brought to life by Hollywood stars Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian, Breaking Bad) and Anthony Gonzalez (Coco).

We needed a powerful melody, full of beauty and longing like the island itself, that could also encompass the grit, darkness and pain of a bloody war.
