ROCKFISH Games has released the second major Early Access update to their spacefaring looter shooter RPG, EVERSPACE 2— Zharkov: The Vortex opens up an all-new star system, a new spaceship class, companion, main and side missions, activities, challenges, and more than 120 improvements and fixes being added to the space action RPG.

Set in a gas cloud system, Zharkov: The Vortex is packed full of new environments, locations, and star bases to discover. Fair warning, Zharkov is EVERSPACE 2’s most dangerous area yet as it is filled with lightning storms, ruined hulks, and strong enemies seeking their next target.

Playing as Adam, a former clone pilot, the player will dive deep into the shady dealings of the Grady & Brunt mining operation and uncover secrets leading to mysteries of The Ancients, and learn how the factions in the game are all connected.

During a certain section of a high-risk undercover operation, players have to prove their 6DOF maneuvering skills when navigating a remote-controlled maintenance drone through narrow tunnels and pass laser security barriers undetected to prevent an inside job from going south.

Further progressing through the fully voiced campaign, EVERSPACE: Encounters players will recognize the new companion added, an old friend: Tareen, the Okkar trader will join the roster of companions and provide some very useful perks. As the new quartermaster, Tareen will expand the player’s storage and increase the number of ships that can be parked at the Homebase.

The latest EVERSPACE 2 ship, the Vanguard, is a lightweight reconnaissance fighter with a focus on speed, quick maneuvers, and defensive measures – perfect for players who love to delve headfirst into the battle and take out enemies in quick succession. The Vanguard’s Special “overcharges” the ship’s shield to up to 200% capacity when boosting or when in Cruise Mode allowing for shield-buffed attacks. This ship also receives an increased critical hit chance when attacking enemies from the rear, making clever combat positioning a significant advantage in dogfights. The Vanguard’s Ultimate, Time Extender, slows down time giving plenty of opportunity to regain the upper hand in any given combat situation if things get messy.

Vanguard ships also come with one out of four random Passive Perks that let cruise drive to be activated with enemies nearby, reduces Web effect by 50%, lowers up to 20% support device cooldown depending on overcharge percentage, or makes Time Extender immediately restore all weapon and boost energy.

Along with the Vanguard, players will also be able to access the second tier of all other current ship types, granting new wing styles and better base stats.

Black Salt Games, a small indie studio from New Zealand driven by a love for video games, is announcing its debut title, Dredge, a game filled with fishing, friends, and foreboding seas that may appear calm, but they’re actually far from it.

Set in a Lovecraft-inspired world, players begin their extraordinary adventure when they take up fishing at their new home in The Marrows islands and strange things begin to occur. The core mechanics of Dredge involve a combination of collecting and selling resources, upgrading your equipment and abilities, and exploration.

Players will come across a number of peculiar inhabitants, both on land and at sea, that will reward you for your help. While some island dwellers will ask players to complete simple tasks, there are some stranger folk that are willing to pay big if you’re willing to retrieve some more exotic artifacts from the ocean floor. What they do with these relics is unknown, but you might want to consider if earning extra cash to upgrade your sea vessel is worth bringing about the end of the world.

By day, the seas can be a quiet oasis filled with plenty of opportunities for a fisherman to become profitable. But when the sun goes down, the waters surrounding The Marrows become less inviting. Icarus Open Beta Starts August 28

Game studio RocketWerkz announced today that its highly anticipated session-based survival game, Icarus, will officially open beta gameplay on August 28 with the first of several “Beta Weekends.” The company will roll out brand new features and content every two weeks for players to test out (see the schedule below). Anyone that has already pre-ordered Icarus, or pre-orders the game during August, will be able to play in the beta when it launches.

Icarus is a uniquely session-based PvE survival game for up to eight co-op players. Set on an Earth-like planet where terraforming failed, players explore, craft, build and survive against the elements as part of an interstellar goldrush. Initially equipped with nothing, players drop to the planet for missions lasting from hours to weeks, before returning to orbit to progress their character and tech for the next drop.

New features will be unlocked for the community to test every second weekend. “In the first Beta Weekend players will be invited to put Icarus’ core survival gameplay to the test,” says gamerunner Dean Hall. “Then we’ll start throwing more at them every two weeks. We’re really looking forward to playing Icarus with our community and hearing their feedback.”

The second Beta Weekend will unlock Icarus’ base-destroying storms, followed by the arctic biome two weeks later, then the desert biome, and special faction missions set by the corporations vying for control of Icarus in the following weeks.

“We wanted to do a smart beta,” says Hall. “By focusing on a new gameplay system each Beta Weekend we can gather more useful feedback from our community as we iterate and evolve the world. Icarus is ready for players, and we weren’t afraid to delay the game so we could get as much of their feedback as possible to make it the very best it can be.”

Icarus’ developers at RocketWerkz have been very open with their community during the game’s development, with regular community Twitch streams, a ‘Making of Icarus’ video series and an active Discord community. “We did this intentionally with the aim of developing the game collaboratively as we evolve the world,” says Hall. “We plan to continue this approach during the beta.”
