Download the demo of this macabre experience right now ahead of Steam Next Fest, featuring the first pieces of the anthology.

Frank cannot pry his eyes away from the red fridge in his basement as it emanates strange voices and ominous sounds. Frank wants to find his missing daughter; Laurie’s notes on the floor suggest that this demonic appliance somehow did something to her. Frank searches for answers to access the unopenable icebox, but he cannot look away, for every time he does, the red fridge moves in closer, emitting malice with every shake and scratch.

Frank’s tale represents just one of multiple terror-filled experiences populating The Fridge is Red. Unravel the mystery of the red refrigerator and the mental anguish of those who cross its path across a variety of stories including haunted hospital halls, a creepy church graveyard, snowy highways and other locations. Uncover horrifying revelations while contending with unspeakable dread tormenting those seeking the truth.

The Fridge is Red combines the aesthetics of the PlayStation 1 era’s horror games, combining early 3D with modern effects to replicate the memories those classics conjured. Drab and rusted colorways set a malevolent tone for different environments, all explored from a first-person perspective, set to haunting background music and dismal sounds to create an unnerving environment.

5WORD Team, creators of Death Crown, startled the world with their Epic MegaJam entry DO NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE RED FRIDGE, which earned attention for its introduction to a haunting universe inspired by PS1 horror classics. Now the team partners with acclaimed publisher tinyBuild to bring the full anthology to life under a shortened title: The Fridge is Red.

“We’ve explored countless ideas when participated in game jams and prototyping concepts in our own free time, however we never saw any developer receive as an enthusiastic response to a demo as we did with DO NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE RED FRIDGE,” said Artem Kudriashov, lead designer, 5WORD Team. “ After witnessing the terrified reactions and demand for a full game from gamers as well as streamers, we began considering giving the people what they called for, but when tinyBuild said they would help us realize our vision, we knew we had to bring the world The Fridge is Red.”

The Fridge is Red releases for Steam for PC later this year, and will support English, French, German, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Korean and Simplified Chinese language text.

To learn more about the game visit tinyBuild’s official website, and follow the publisher on Twitter and YouTube, and join the 5WORD Discord.

High On Life Announced from Justin Roiland’s Squanch Games

Squanch Games is excited to announce High On Life, a weird and hilarious adventure from the mind of Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites) and the team behind Trover Saves the Universe. After a cartel of aliens invades Earth, a freshly minted high-school graduate grabs the nearest talking gun and becomes the deadliest intergalactic bounty hunter across the cosmos. It makes sense, OK? High On Life is coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store later this year.

The alien invaders in High On Life are on a mission to dominate Earth, but with a particularly sinister twist: Garmantuous and his cartel goons are intent on enslaving humanity and using them as a new drug. This also makes sense, OK? Defeating these powerful aliens isn’t going to be easy; bounty hunters will work with (or against) NPCs, collect upgrades, and acquire an arsenal of talking guns on their journey. Each of these guns has its own unique personality and special gameplay, and they provide their own narrative take on what’s going on.

“We like to flex our creative muscles and try new things. If you look at our previous work, I think you’ll pick up on that,” said Mike Fridley, Squanch’s Studio Director. “At the same time, Justin’s unique comedic voice ties all of our games together. We want fans to be able to look at one of our games and immediately know that it’s from Squanch. They know it’ll be funny, but that it’ll also be a great experience that’s fun to play. High On Life is a first-person shooter, and we’re taking what we love about that genre and pushing it in a really squanchy direction.”

Bounty hunters will travel between planets during their adventure, visiting memorable locations like a dense and dangerous jungle, a city built deep inside an asteroid, and a variety of other dynamic and changing worlds. Players will run into dangerous local wildlife, help (or help) a bunch of alien weirdos, and test their mettle against a variety of Hunter Challenges. And you’ll never be alone because your guns talk!

“I wanted to make games that I wanted to play, and that was the spark that sort of lit the fire of Squanch Games. Then we shipped Trover, we shipped Accounting+, and now we’re on this absolute dream game that we were kind of building towards this whole time,” said Justin Roiland at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 aftershow.

You can find more information on Squanch Games’ official website, which also has info on our other Very Good games including Trover Saves the Universe, Dr. Splorchy Presents: Space Heroes, and Accounting+.

Scorn Release Date Trailer

In a new trailer for the upcoming atmospheric horror game Scorn, developer Ebb Software and publisher Kepler Interactive today gave players a deeper look into the game’s nightmarish world, a biomechanical labyrinth with aesthetics inspired by the works of H.R. Giger creating a truly unsettling, interpretive experience. Horror fans will be able to experience the world of Scorn just in time for Halloween, when it launches on Oct. 21 2022, for Xbox Series X|S (day one with Xbox Game Pass) and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).

Debuted during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase earlier today, the trailer centered on Scorn’s disturbing setting, a desolate hellscape once an industrial civilization that now lay in ruin. As players awaken isolated and lost within Scorn’s living labyrinth, they’re left to fend for themselves and find a way forward. Surrounded by visceral, fleshy contraptions and denizen creatures, every deadly encounter must be carefully considered with limited ammunition, health and resources.
