Arma3 Zeus DLC Trailer

arma3_dlc_zeus_screenshot_03

Prague, Czech Republic, Thursday 13th February 2014 — Bohemia Interactive, creators of the award-winning Arma™ series and DayZ™, today announce their first planned DLC for Arma 3: Arma 3 Zeus. Made available in the second quarter of this year, the free Zeus DLC delivers a new form of multiplayer, in which players can take on the role of Game Master and curate the online battles of other players. The concept is further introduced in the DLC’s reveal trailer.

Improvisation is the ultimate key to success in Arma 3 Zeus. Inspired by popular tabletop games such as ‘Dungeons & Dragons’, a limited number of players can assume the role of Game Master, and influence the multiplayer experience of those with boots on the ground. Watching the battlefield from a bird’s-eye view, wielding an intuitive real-time editor, Zeus can create, manipulate or expand mission content to generate new stories and a flow of challenges. The result is incredibly dynamic, unscripted combat gameplay – and multiplayer sessions which are filled with unexpected, challenging, and creative events.

The Zeus multiplayer concept works across all familiar multiplayer game types, such as Team Deathmatch and Sector Control, where players can either work with or go up against Zeus. The most distinctive game type in Arma 3 Zeus, however, is ‘Zeus Game Master’. Here, Game Masters are entirely free to create objectives, spawn units, and steer players across Arma 3’s massive Altis and Stratis terrains.

On top of the diverse range of official Zeus scenarios that will be available, Arma 3 Zeus can also be implemented into player-created multiplayer scenarios.

“The best thing about Arma 3 Zeus is how naturally it fits within the game. Dynamic combat, massive islands, and editing features – it was all there. But now we’ve added an interface which gives players full control over the multiplayer experience”, said Zeus’ Design Lead Karel Moricky. “The Zeus system is pretty modular too, so community creators can easily use it in their missions. Or take it apart and turn into something completely different. There are no rules, only those you make yourself.”

While the reveal trailer already gives a taste of what to expect, the Arma 3 development team will also be hosting an official ‘Arma 3 Zeus Gameplay Reveal’ livestream this Saturday, February 15th, at 17:00 UTC. During the livestream, Zeus’ Design Lead Karel Moricky and Arma 3’s Creative Director Jay Crowe, alongside other core members of the Arma development team, will be giving a one-hour demonstration of how it is to play as Zeus and what it’s like to be one of Zeus’ subjects. The session will be streamed live from Bohemia Interactive’s HQ in Prague onto Arma 3’s Twitch.tv channel.

Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad Air Review

logitech-fabricskin-keyboard-folio-for-ipad-5th-generation

With Apple’s iPad Air now in full retail glory, there is a huge number of cases, folios, and keyboards being released for it. Logitech’s FabricSkin Keyboard Folio is but one of them. What first drew my eye to wanting to check on out in person was its, as the title mentions, fabric-lined outer surface. So many cases are made of leather or neoprene, I knew this one would be special – and I was right.

The Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad Air features a cool Bluetooth keyboard with almost-flush keys, meaning that the keys are not stand-alone objects. These keys are all part of the keyboard’s surface. Additionally, the fabric-lined keyboard is liquid resistant and easily wipes clean. These points are great – but the most convenient part of the wireless keyboard is how it powers on and off. Using some technological wizardry, Logitech has designed it so that the keyboard turns on and off automatically, based on the position of the iPad Air. If your iPad Air is opened up in a book reading style, the keyboard is off. However, if you put the iPad Air into the keyboard position (it locks into place by a magnet, which is simply futuristic and awesome), the keyboard turns on. When you put the iPad Air back to book position, it turns off! What’s most nice about this system is that you can’t forget to turn your keyboard off, wasting its battery.

I noticed several complaints from early reviews of the device that claimed the case magnets didn’t turn off the iPad Air when closed or turn it back on when opened – I believe they stated it had to do with where the case magnets lined up with the tablet. It is worth noting that, n my testing, the auto-on and off feature of the FabricSkin Keyboard Folio worked every time.

Another cool feature of the keyboard is that the arrow keys also hide a selection command as a secondary function. These keys will allow you to select whole words whenever you like instead of just one character at a time. The keyboard charges via included MicroUSB cable and has a very long battery life. Logitech claims it will last up to three months when fully charged and when using it for two hours a day. I can back that claim up as we have had it for a couple months now and only had to charge it a handful of times depending on how long I used it each day. For those of you using a stylus with your iPad Air tablet, the Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio features a small loop where you can keep one handy – or a thin pen I suppose.

Conclusion

The Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio for iPad Air is available now and has an MSRP of about $150 dollars – although, you can find some better price points by shopping around a bit. While this price my not be inexpensive, the FabricSkin Keyboard Folio has some really nice build quality as well as an innovative keyboard design. I also suggest you try this keyboard folio out at a Best Buy location, etc. My wife was not as impressed as I was regarding the feel of the keyboard keys – so user preference is also a factor to consider.

Planets3 Talks Player Progression

Earth

February 12, 2014–In Planets,3 the player will be free to explore the universe as he sees fit and attack any monster he may encounter. However he will have to find the optimal combination of materials to build the most relevant equipment (weapon, armor, vehicle etc.) to face given enemies and his surroundings in order to survive and continue to progress in the game.

A variable open world

In Planets3, as in any other role-playing game, monsters are present in a given area determine its difficulty level. The monsters’ level is based upon their equipment characteristics and core statistics such as health or strength.

In addition to monsters, the level of area is also determined by the “hardness” of its consitutive blocks (granite, sandstone etc..) Only advanced-enough tools will enable players to pick those blocks up.

Therefore it is the combination of both the average hardness of blocks of an area and the level of the monsters spawning in this same area that characterize the level of difficulty.

The player will have to navigate progressively through the world of Planets3, each area providing useful rewards for the next one.

Crafting and NPCs

NPCs, which are core elements of the game’s storyline, are essential to the evolution of the player in Planets3. The master craftsmen teaches the player the manufacture of certain classes of objects, like Watts the blacksmith, master of weapons and metal armor in the game.

Each NPC has its own story that the player will discover throughout the game.

Planetscrafting mechanism is based on an assembling system. Each object is divided into different parts, whose shape and material define its statistics.

Build vehicles to go further and faster

To speed up the exploration of the world in Planets3, the player can build vehicles, another essential element of the game that influences the storyline.

Vehicles are made of blocks, among which are “control blocks” that interact together. For example, a terrestrial vehicle should include wheels, an engine and a cockpit. The materials used to build the vehicle condition whether it will be optimized for one type of ground or another (desert rocks, snow, etc..), and will therefore be faster or slower.

Some NPCs also offer different “ready-to-use” vehicles in exchange for resources. But the real benefit of the system is definitely to create one’s own vehicle!

Planets3 is schedulded to release in summer 2015 on PC.

The Kickstarter campaign to support the development of Planetswill start soon, get ready!
