Razer Huntsman V2 Gaming Keyboard Line

Razer™, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers (Hong Kong Stock Code: 1337), today announced the Razer Huntsman V2 line, with a suite of upgrades and enhancements to create the fastest, most advanced optical gaming keyboards in the world. The new features include Razer’s 2nd generation Optical Switches, Razer 8k HyperPolling Technology, and Doubleshot PBT keycaps, as well as improved acoustics, made in response to player and community feedback.

Since its launch in 2018, the Huntsman family of keyboards has grown in popularity to become the best-selling gaming keyboard in the U.S.¹, setting new standards for innovative, high-speed, gaming-grade keyboards. The new Huntsman V2 range is set to continue that legacy with a range of upgrades and refinements focused on the fundamentals of a great gaming keyboard; performance, feel, and acoustics.

“We broke new ground with the original Huntsman, bringing Optical Switches to mainstream gaming for the first time,” said Chris Mitchell, Head of Sales & Marketing of Razer’s Peripherals Business Unit. “The improvements and refinements in the new Huntsman V2 range now give players a high-performance, gaming-focused keyboard that feels even smoother, responds even quicker, and sounds quieter than before.”

2nd Generation Optical Switches

The Huntsman V2 is available with Razer 2nd Generation Linear Optical Switches, which have been refined and tweaked based on player and user feedback. Foremost in these refinements is the addition of a silicon sound dampener, to reduce the ‘clack’ of the key bottoming out during use, which greatly improves the typing experience. The switches also feature more generous lubrication on the switches and stabilizers, for even smoother operation and increased noise reduction.

The Razer 2nd Generation Linear Optical Switches use an infra-red beam of light to activate the switch signal, which completely eliminates debounce delay, the delay traditionally built into mechanical switch keyboards to ensure a contact signal is a true keypress. With no debounce delay, Razer 2nd Generation Linear Optical Switches can take advantage of Razer HyperPolling Technology, surpassing the 1000Hz polling rate of standard keyboards and ramping up to a blistering true polling rate of 8000Hz. These two high-speed, high-performance technologies combined give the Huntsman V2 near-zero latency for the fastest, most responsive gaming keyboard in the world.

Upgrades, Upgrades, Upgrades

In response to feedback from the community and esports athletes, the Huntsman V2 has also been upgraded in other areas. Doubleshot PBT keycaps, for extra durability and resistance to wear, come as standard on the Huntsman V2. The two-stage molding process used in creating the keycaps results in fadeproof legends, even after hundreds of hours of use, with a textured finish for a secure fingertip grip and positive typing action.

To improve keyboard acoustics, a series of sound dampening features have been added through the chassis, to absorb pings and thunks as the keys bottom out during use. A sturdy matte aluminum top plate keeps the keyboard rigid with minimal flex, even under the most intense key pounding, and a sculpted, ergonomic wrist rest fits perfectly to the front of the Huntsman V2 for added support and pressure relief during long sessions.

The Huntsman V2 is equipped with a Multi-function Digital Dial and 4 dedicated, customizable media keys for extended usability outside of gaming. Fully programmable through Razer Synapse 3, the Huntsman V2 features 7 preset Razer Chroma lighting effects, with a selection of up to 16.8 million colors, for complete personalization. The hybrid on-board memory can be used to save settings, macros and color schemes for access anywhere, anytime, even without access to cloud storage.

The Huntsman V2 Tenkeyless

Also announced today is the Huntsman V2 Tenkeyless keyboard, the leaner, lighter little brother to the Huntsman V2. Mirroring many of the features of the full-sized Huntsman V2, the Huntsman V2 Tenkeyless eschews the number pad, dial, and media keys in favor of portability, but retains the new features and upgrades seen in the Huntsman V2 including the new Razer Linear Optical Switches Gen-2, Razer HyperPolling Technology for true 8000Hz polling, Doubleshot PBT keycaps, sound dampening measures and ergonomic wrist rest. The Huntsman V2 Tenkeyless also features a detachable USB-C cable for ease of transport for players on the go and is fully compatible with Razer Synapse 3 for up to 16.8 million color customization and on-board hybrid memory for macro and settings storage.

Corsair HS80 Wireless RGB Headset Review

Corsair’s new HS80 RGB Wireless gaming headset allows for both wired and wireless audio from a variety of sources. It also comes with built-in DOLBY Atmos! Read on for our full rundown of the new headset:

The Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless headset features some very good build quality. Its headbands are flexible and comfortable even after wearing the headset for a long time – although if you have a larger head you may need to break in/stretch the support headband a bit. As a large-headed person myself, the headset was a bit tight on the top of my noggin. It would have been a good ide for them to include a slightly larger support band, maybe wrapped around the main headband with Velcro so that you can swamp them out for maximum comfort. The ear cup cushion is made from a very comfy memory foam that feels great – and the cups are large enough to go around my ear instead of pressing on it. The headset features a very slight RGB element in the Corsair logos on both ear cups. Using the iCUE software, you can change the color they illuminate. This is a very small detail and, while it may not be important to some gamers (and makes me question why they would brand this as an RGB headset considering the light up element is so small), I think others will appreciate the splash of color. On the back of left ear cup, you’ll find the power and volume controls. They are designed in a very user-friendly way, and controlling them with just your thumb takes next to no effort at all – even while playing a hectic first-person shooter title.

Inside each of the ear cups is a custom-tuned 50mm driver capable of delivering some great sound to the wearer. Of course, sound processing is of utmost importance these days and the Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless knows that. To that end, they include built-in support for DOLBY Atmos on your gaming PC. Plug the dongle in and then install the DOLBY Atmos software – then away you go! Coupled with the HS80 RGB Wireless, you will NOT be disappointed. It charges and connects to your PC by way of a USB-C cable that is nice and braided to avoid snagging on things. Also, Corsair has enabled this headset to connect wirelessly to your computer with an included Slipstream Wireless dongle. The Slipstream Wireless connection is outstanding and I never noticed any hint of latency loss in my content consumption or game playing. More about the Slipstream Wireless dongle – it can actually support a maximum of two other Slipstream-enabled devices at the same time. This means that you won’t need a dongle for every Corsair device with Slipstream that is wirelessly connected to your PC. Also, the Slipstream Wireless dongle can be connected to a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, allowing you wireless capability on that gaming console.

There is a technical difference in maximum audio quality when in wired or wireless modes that should be noted – although, in practical use I was hard-pressed to notice any real, discernible difference. In wired mode, the headset is capable of 24-bit, 96kHz audio while in wireless mode it is capable of 24-bit, 48kHz audio. Again – I couldn’t hear a real difference – both modes sounded terrific to me.

But how does it sound? Thankfully, the Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless has some excellent sound quality – thanks to not only DOLBY Atmos support but also its large pre-tuned drivers. I ran the headset through a variety of games and uses – from titles like Aliens: Fireteam Elite to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Then I simply wrote this review while listening to music while wearing it. It’s a shame it is not a bit more accommodating to my head size – the sound is outstanding.

Unfortunately there are some things I would like to see done differently on this headset. First and foremost – the design of the boom microphone is very odd. It’s permanently attached and flips up and down however its boom arm has no articulation to get the microphone angled towards or away from your mouth. I am also slightly skeptical regarding the flip up/down design and how it will stand up over years of use. I could imagine it eventually losing a tight grip on the boom arm over time and just permanently settling into the down position. The positive side of this microphone design is that, when flipped up, the Corsair HS80 RGB Wireless headset automatically mutes its microphone, unmuting it when subsequently flipped-down. The end of the boom microphone features a small LED indicator that shines green for unmuted and red for muted. Secondly, the ear cup is made from a plastic material that seems to sop up oil like nobody’s business. This means that it shows finger smudges very easily. While not anything that affects its performance, it might bother gamers who prefer as clean a look as possible.

Overall, Corsair’s HS80 RGB Wireless Headset is a solid set of headphones that will provide you with very good spatial audio. It retails for $149.99 and is available now.

Funcom Acquires IP Ranging from Conan the Barbarian to Mutant Year Zero and More

Funcom today announced the acquisition of Cabinet Group, home to dozens of intellectual properties, including Conan the Barbarian, Mutant Year Zero and Solomon Kane.

Cabinet Group’s entire portfolio will be incorporated into the IP studio and Funcom subsidiary Heroic Signatures. Funcom CEO Rui Casais said he has high ambitions for the IPs and noted at least one unannounced project is already in development.

“We are currently overseeing the development of an unannounced game which will combine many of the characters in the Robert E. Howard universe,” said Casais. “And if you combine Funcom’s knowledge of games with Heroic Signatures’ knowledge of the TV/entertainment, publishing, and licensing industries, it makes us perfectly placed to take this venture to the next level. It’s exciting times ahead for us and for fans of the IPs.”

Fredrik Malmberg, co-founder and CEO of Cabinet Group, will remain onboard as President of Heroic Signatures.

“We took Cabinet Group as far as we could as an independent studio, but in order to achieve further growth, we were in need of bigger financial investments and infrastructure,” Malmberg said.

The Heroic Signatures President was responsible for acquiring and reviving the popularity of multiple IPs. Most notably, licensing deals with companies such as Penguin Random House, Panini, Titan Books, Monolith and Funcom enabled Conan the Barbarian to reach a whole new generation of fans around the world. Marvel Entertainment is publishing a new Conan comic book every month, and there is also a Netflix series based on the same IP currently in the works.

Malmberg said he’s delighted to become a fully integrated part of the Funcom family, after a relationship which dates back to the development of the online multiplayer game Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures in the early 2000s. While Malmberg has pioneered an alliance across all areas of the entertainment industry, including video games, television, print media and tabletop games, he said he believes we’re only now approaching the pinnacle.

“The entertainment industry is rapidly becoming more ‘techified.’ We’ve seen brilliant examples of how games have incorporated IPs in innovative ways to reach audience numbers that vastly surpass previous levels. What Fortnite has done with The Avengers, for instance, or the impact a live in-game concert can have on awareness. We are looking forward to sitting down with other entertainment companies who share our vision and wish to take part in the exciting journey we have ahead,” he says.

Universal Studios 2021 Halloween Horror Nights Review

Halloween Horror Nights is back at Universal Studios Hollywood and it’s a very welcome homecoming. After a long hiatus due to the pandemic, was a tingle-inspiring sight to behold when we went through the turnstiles and saw Universal Studios with crowds excitedly hurrying towards various mazes and scare zones. Below are our thoughts of the event this year and whether or not it’s worth shelling out your hard-earned cash to attend.

There are seven haunted houses or “mazes” at Halloween Horror Nights this year and, without a doubt, the best in the bunch this year is Universal Monsters The Bride of Frankenstein Lives. In this maze, we find the Bride of Frankenstein attempting to resurrect the Frankenstein monster after tragedy has struck. She fights vampires, learns the secrets of the “good” doctor himself and, eventually, resurrects the monster. It tells a fantastic story all while still being scary with plenty of jump scares and theatrical cues. In fact, this is one of the best pseudo-theatrical presentations I have ever seen in a haunted house. Not since Knott’s Scary Farm’s “Lore of the Vampire” maze many years ago has such a thing been attempted – but, this time, it is accomplished in spades. Universal has set a very high bar in this maze! My second favorite mazea of the night (it’s a tie) were Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These haunted houses each had sets that were masterfully decorated, the monsters/talent were totally in their characters. They even used the scented fog to great effect in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre by pumping out barbeque smell when the scenes depicting the roasting of human victims came around – brilliant. Strangely, The Walking Dead Attraction is open again after being closed early last year. The park is playing it off like it is a full haunted maze but, if you went through it while it was open, it’s basically the same thing. So, it seems like they are sort of phoning it in here. That’s not saying The Walking Dead Attraction isn’t fun or scary at times – it’s just not what I would consider part of the Horror Nights maze lineup. The worst maze of our experience at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights was The Exorcist. They basically recycled the previous The Exorcist maze from a couple years ago and, while there are a few good scenes replicating some moments from the film, it’s mostly “dead” (no pun intended) space with nothing interesting to look at. I would have rather seen the park recycle the outstanding Ghostbusters maze they had a couple of years ago – but, I digress.

This year, we noticed a reduction of in-your-face monsters in all the mazes, with a reliance on more distanced scares. They are also making sure that all of the monsters within the mazes are wearing face masks. They attempt when possible to work the mask into the character but sometimes it’s obvious. Horror Nights is starting to utilize theatrical scrims to present visions of gruesom terror. These scrims were used in GREAT effect within both the Halloween 4 and The Haunting of Hill House mazes and work by having a perforated sheet painted to look like the scene around it. Behind the scrim is monster or scene in darkness. When that scene is illuminated, the painted area of the scrim sort of fades away, revealing the horror behind it. It’s super cool and a welcome change from the reliance on “Boo Boxes” which has plagued Horror Nights mazes in more recent years.

The very long walk to the mazes on the backlot is gone this year – as are the backlot mazes. All of the mazes take place on the upper and lower lots – with the exception of The Haunting of Hill House and the Curse of Pandora’s Box being backlot adjacent. The walk to those mazes takes guests through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (which was a welcome thing to have open for Horror Nights) and back behind some of the buildings. It’s a far better walk than the third of a mile walk to the backlot was – especially without the headache inducing “scare zone” with all the dubstep music and strobe lights to contend with. I would love to see Universal Studios keep this layout for next year’s Horror Nights event as well.

The Terror Tram was back this year and themed out in the guise of The Forever Purge. While I love the concept of the Terror Tram, I hope that one year they change their thinking about what the experience is at its core – it’s time for a paradigm shift. There are several other ways that the studio can take this attraction rather than just a hike through the back lot. Aside from this, the Terror Tram is adequate this year, and you could tell that all of the monsters in the back lot were having a great time. It’s a lot of fun to see the backlot from on foot – it’s just that they don’t really change a lot of it from year to year. So, if you’ve been on the Terror Tram once in the past, you have sort of already done it this year.

There are three scare zones at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights: Demon City, Chainsaw Rangers, and Silver Scream Queenz. Demon City utilizes the fire-spouting cargo containers that usually grace the scare zone located in the New York City facade area of the upper lot, and all of the demonic monsters were working the area with gusto. The Chainsaw Rangers are all clearly having fun with their chainsaws but these were never that effective for me. After a while, guests sort of become desensitized to the noise and smell of the chainsaws. However, the talent was still working hard on their scares. The best of the scare zones this year was the Silver Scream Queenz area located outside the exit of The Bride of Frankenstein Lives. This scare zone featured all manner of femal Universal Monsters and they were bringing their A game this year. Not only are the characters varied and all feature great costumes, makeup, and masks but they all have their own “gigs” to make use of.

The food and merchandise options were incredible this year – with all kinds of items being sold. At the park’s lower lot, you could find a BBQ stand themed like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre while in Hogsmeade you could take a seat at the Three Broomsticks for a tasty dinner to regroup and enjoy some butterbeer. At the various shops, you could find Horror Nights branded shirts, masks, magnets, pins, and a whole lot more. I was hard-pressed to walk out of any of the stores without buying something.

Overall, Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights is back for 2021 and provides guests with an outstanding, scary time. Between The Bride of Frankenstein Lives, Silver Scream Queenz scare zone, and the increased themed food and merchandise opportunities – not to mention all the other good mazes and scare zones – you and yours will have a blast. Tickets for Halloween Horror Nights are available now and retail between $69 and $99 dollars – however, they offer an experess pass which allows you to go to the front of the line for each attraction once for $209 to $299 depending on the evening you go. With the lines I saw waiting in the general queues, this option might not be a bad idea – despite its increased ticket price. The park has also begun running its R.I.P. Tours again and those tickets go from $299 to $499 a person depending on the evening. You can check out the park’s official event website for more details.

Batman: Year One Remastered Version Announced

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) celebrates the 10th anniversary of the DC Universe Movies release Batman: Year One with a fully-remastered version of the film and a newly-created bonus feature, Reinventing Gordon. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC, the PG-13 rated film arrives on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (USA $33.99 SRP; Canada $39.99 SRP) and Digital starting November 9, 2021.

Originally released on Blu-ray and DVD in 2011, Batman: Year One is based on the landmark 1987 DC titles from 12-time Eisner Award winner and Eisner Award Hall of Fame member Frank Miller and illustrator David Mazzucchelli. The film depicts young Bruce Wayne’s return to Gotham City in his first attempts to fight injustice as a costumed Super Hero. The playboy billionaire chooses the guise of a giant bat to combat crime, creates an early bond with a young Lieutenant James Gordon (who is already battling corruption from inside the police department), inadvertently plays a role in the birth of Catwoman, and helps to bring down a crooked political system that infests Gotham City.

Six-time Emmy® Award winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Trumbo, Your Honor) and Gotham star Ben McKenzie (Southland, The O.C.) lead a star-studded cast as Lieutenant James Gordon and Bruce Wayne/Batman, respectively. Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) provides the voice of Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Katee Sackhoff (The Mandalorian, Battlestar Galactica) gives voice to Detective Sarah Essen, and the late Alex Rocco (The Godfather) is the voice of crime lord Carmine Falcone. Additional voices/characters include the late Jon Polito as Commissioner Loeb, Jeff Bennett as Alfred, Grey Griffin as Barbara Gordon & Vicki Vale, Robin Atkin Downes as Harvey Dent, Keith Ferguson as Jefferson Skeevers, Fred Tatasciore as Detective Flass, Stephen Root as Brendon, Liliana Mumy as Holly and Nick Jameson as Merkel.

Lauren Montgomery (Wonder Woman, Voltron: Legendary Defender) and Sam Liu (Batman: Soul of the Dragon, Superman: Red Son) co-directed Batman: Year One from a script penned by Academy Award® nominee Tab Murphy (Gorillas in the Mist, Disney’s Tarzan). Animation legend Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series) is executive producer of Batman: Year One. Other executive producers are Sam Register, Michael Uslan, and the late Benjamin Melniker.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack features an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc in 4K with HDR, a Blu-ray disc featuring the film in hi-definition, and a digital version of the movie.

Get a sneak peek at the new special feature, Reinventing Gordon, at DC FanDome, the ultimate global fan experience, returns on Saturday, October 16 at 10 a.m. PDT, with an all-new, epic streaming event.
