Tamarak Trail Goes Behind the Music with New Trailer

Tamarak Trail, the upcoming turn-based deck-building roguelike from Yarrow Games and Versus Evil, has received a new blog post offering an in-depth look at the game’s haunting musical score.

This blog post covers the foundations of the soundtrack, looking at the inspiration behind it, how composer Michael Noble and music producer Alyxandra Guevara went about making it to match each of the game’s environments, and their creative vision for what they wanted Tamarak Trail’s musical score to convey. Tamarak Trail’s setting was inspired by Canada’s unique folklore and forests, so it was important that the soundtrack be specific to this region as well. You’ll be able to hear the full soundtrack when Tamarak Trail launches this summer on PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.

Gun Interactive Announces The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Official Soundtrack Release

Today, Gun Interactive—the multimedia development firm behind the upcoming The Texas Chain Saw Massacre—is proud to release the game’s Official Soundtrack, as well as Remains, a companion album by Gun CEO Wes Keltner and composer Jim Bonney. Now digitally available on Spotify and Apple Music, the pair of albums arrive one week in advance of the technical test for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, allowing fans to get a taste of what’s in store. “The Massacre”, the main theme song from the OST, is composed of pig screams, chainsaws, and scraped metal, as well as other equipment like the Soma Lyra drone machine. It also features Keltner performing on the Apprehension Engine, the custom-made musical instrument played by the likes of Mark Korven and Trent Reznor, and which was once described by Brian Eno as “the most terrifying musical instrument of all time.” Take a listen below!

Remains – SpotifyApple Music

Remains, the collaborative companion record from Wes Keltner and Jim Bonney, was musically inspired by desert rock and similar heavy genres, while thematically exploring the events that occurred prior to those of the film. As Keltner writes in a Community Hub blog post from last year, “This album is a direct reflection of what Kim Henkel wrote, influenced by the events that led up to [those of the film] and why the Slaughter family did the things they did…it’s about that town that they grew up in and around.”

Both albums arrive in advance of the Technical Test for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which will be held on May 25th and continue through Memorial Day weekend. The test is an invitation to the gaming community from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham to collaborate in the game’s finishing stages in advance of its August 18th launch. The purpose of this event is to document the technical performance and capabilities of the latest playable build for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, not to preview the finished product. As the Gun team notes in its Community Hub post, “A Tech Test differs from a Beta in that the Technical Test is more focused on stress testing the game and backend services, allowing our team to adjust server load and make any adjustments prior to launch.”

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre takes place in the months leading up to the events of the original 1974 film, and features authentic recreations of the locations, characters, and imagery of the source material. Players control either the Victims or members of the Slaughter Family—including the infamous Leatherface—in a vicious game of 3v4 cat-and-mouse that takes the tension and suspense of the film and repurposes it into thrilling, competitive action. The Victims and the Slaughter Family must both utilize their unique abilities to come out on top, as the former use stealth and smarts to escape their fearsome tormentors, while each member of the Slaughter Family wields brutal and murderous attacks to hunt their prey.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will launch on August 18th, 2023 for PC, PlayStation® 5 (PS5™) & PlayStation® 4 (PS4™), Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, and will launch into Game Pass on Xbox and PC. For more information, visit The Community Hub at the official The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Website, and join the conversation at the Gun Interactive Discord.

Storm King Comics to Unveil John Carpenter’s Night Terrors “Usher Down” at SDCC

Storm King Comics announces Usher Down, the latest volume in the popular anthology series John Carpenter’s Night Terrors, a chilling ghost story set in perhaps history’s most fabled haunted house.

Written by Alex Van Helsing author Jason Henderson and illustrated by artist Greg Scott (Gotham Central, X-Files, Black Hood), with colors by Felipe Sobreiro and letters by Eisner and Harvey nominated letterer Ed Dukeshire, Usher Down kicks off the 2023 slate of the John Carpenter’s Night Terrors imprint. The release coincides with the 10th-anniversary celebration of Storm King Comics, the first comic book publishing company to be founded by a woman, producing legend Sandy King Carpenter, with multiple activations planned at this year’s Comic-Con International.

“Here’s the thing. Usher Down isn’t a haunted house story– it’s a haunted house expedition story like the ones Greg Scott and I are obsessed with like The Haunting, Rose Red and The Legend of Hell House” says writer Jason Henderson. “When you have a house that everyone holds in awe and you put together an expedition and anything can happen. That’s the stuff, that’s what we wanted to make and Storm King made that vision a reality.”

A young psychic joins a government expedition to explore the most legendary haunted house of all time, the fabled House of Usher. The house is real, frozen in time below ground-but what the explorers find there is demonic, alive, and may well have called them for its own dark purposes. Writer Jason Henderson along with artist Greg Scott and colorist Felipe Sobreiro take you underground in Usher Down, the seventh story in Storm King Comics’ anthology series, John Carpenter’s Night Terrors.

Storm King Comics was founded in 2012 by CEO Sandy King Carpenter. She and husband/creative partner, John Carpenter, released their first comic, Asylum, ten years ago in 2013. With over 100 comic and graphic novel titles published, Storm King has brought together some of the best creators in the world to craft original horror, sci-fi, and fantasy tales. Sandy King Carpenter has utilized her extensive background in entertainment—as a horror film producer and professional—to build a successful comic book company from the ground up. She has shepherded every title throughout the creative process, alongside managing editor Sean Sobczak.

Usher Down will be available on July 12, 2023 in comic shops and digitally online through GlobalComix. Copies will ship from Amazon, and become available in bookstores on July 25 . For more information, please visit https://stormkingcomics.com/.
