SOE Reveals EverQuest Next

LAS VEGAS – August 2, 2013 – Fourteen years ago, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) changed the way people play games together online with the introduction of the original EverQuest™. Today, SOE offers a new vision for the future of online games with the worldwide debut of EverQuest Next (EQN).

EverQuest Next has been in development since 2009. Nearly two years ago, SOE made the decision to rethink core creative and technical aspects of the design and start from the ground up to build a new kind of game. As a result, EQN is different from all of the MMOs that have been made before in very important ways, including:

Multi-Classing – EQN will offer players the ability to explore and interact with the world according to their individual style of play. There are no levels in EQN, but there will be more than 40 distinct classes (or professions) at launch, with multi-tiered abilities and specialized weapon skills to collect and master. Players will even mix and match abilities from each class, creating truly custom characters that feel distinct and powerful.

Destructible Environments – No modern MMO has successfully implemented destructible environments that stretch across an entire seamless game world — this changes forever with EQN. Every piece of the world is fully destructible and players will have the ability to manipulate almost all of it. They will interact with and explore the world in amazing ways; venturing down into the deep bedrock beneath the surface and using powerful combat abilities to blow gaping holes into the ground. The EQN world will extend far into the heavens and deep into the procedurally-generated earth through 10,000 years of known lore and history.

Permanent Change – Players will also have the ability to cause the world to change around them, permanently, in dramatic ways. Through the concerted effort of the world’s inhabitants, including players, creatures, and non-player characters (NPCs), city walls will be built and destroyed, large-scale wars will be fought and won, and epic stories will unfold over months and years.

Emergent AI – In EQN, NPCs will have specific motivations and preferences that direct behavior in nuanced and unpredictable ways. Players will find themselves in a world where NPC decisions are based on core values, not dictated by static spawn points. For example, Orcs may attack opportunistically because they want an adventurer’s gold, not simply because a careless hero wanders into an attack radius.

A Life of Consequence – Finally, each character in EQN will have a unique story; they will not follow a predetermined path. Instead, they will seek out adventure, fame and fortune in a constantly changing sandbox world. The game will remember every choice and action that players make and will organically deliver increasing opportunities to do more of the things players like to do … from crafting armor and exploring the wilderness to purging goblins from the forests.

INTRODUCING EVERQUEST NEXT LANDMARK

This winter, SOE will introduce EverQuest Next Landmark™ (Landmark). Essentially,Landmark will combine the powerful and intuitive building tools SOE is using to create the fully destructible world of EQN with all of the social functionality expected from a modern MMO.

The game will feature huge persistent worlds that each support thousands of other players and varied terrain inspired by the environments of EQN. Most importantly, Landmark will provide anyone who wants to participate with the opportunity to actually build structures, and eventually create other types of content, to be considered for inclusion in EQN. Landmark will enable players to:

Create Amazing Things

  • Build highly detailed structures with powerful and intuitive tools.
  • Quickly design complex projects or collaborate with friends to undertake massive shared builds.
  • Lay claim to and control specific areas of huge persistent worlds.

Share Your Imagination with Friends

  • Landmark‘s persistent servers will enable players to interact with and experience the collective imagination of thousands of players in a unique shared world.
  • Players will have compelling reasons to explore and interact with others. They will congregate at crafting hubs, build design templates to share and trade, and journey across the world to collect the resources required to build and craft.

Build EQN with SOE — Using the Same Tools

  • Landmark players will gain increasing access to many of the same tools that SOE is using to construct the game world of EQN.
  • Not only will Landmark give players access to these world building tools, SOE will provide specific guidance on what we want help building.
  • Through this collaborative approach, EQN may eventually represent the largest overall collaborative development effort in the history of online games. For anyone who has ever thought about becoming a game developer, here is your chance. Together we will build extraordinary things

WarGame AirLand Battle Gets Free Update

August 2, 2013 — The war is far from over! Wargame AirLand Battle, the successor to Wargame European Escalation and the new real-time strategy hit from developers Eugen Systems that won enthusiastic acclaim from gamers and critics alike, has produced its first DLC, “Vox Populi”!

As well as containing substantial extra content, the Vox Populi DLC is totally free, so Wargame AirLand Battle players will find their game has been automatically updated with the download next time they launch the game.

VOX POPULI has been developed specifically to respond to the demands of the community… and has just landed with a whole arsenal of new features! “CONQUEST” mode, a really popular feature in the previous Wargame, makes a great comeback in AirLand Battle both in Multiplayer mode and against the AI, offering a range of new objectives to commanders all over the world. Unlike DESTRUCTION mode, victory in CONQUEST doesn’t depend on the destruction of the enemy forces, but on your ability to capture and hold more territory than your opponent. All the existing maps in Multiplayer are of course playable in this mode.

In addition to this new game mode, CAMPAIGN, already playable in Versus mode, is now available in CO-OPERATIVE mode and allows you to join forces with a friend to play any campaign against the AI. In Skirmish mode you can now select the type and nationality of the equipment of any AI opponent.

Ubisoft Announces Gamescom Lineup

SAN FRANCISCO — August 1, 2013 — Today, Ubisoft revealed its lineup of games for Gamescom, where attendees can get hands on demonstrations of a number of the company’s next-gen titles, including Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, The Crew and the Watch DogsTM companion app. Ubisoft also plans to share details on a new next-gen IP currently in development during the show.

Ubisoft’s Gamescom booth will be located in Hall 6, in space A021. There, attendees will be able to play the following Ubisoft titles:

  • Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag: The newest installment in the acclaimed Assassin’s CreedTM franchise where gamers will relive the Golden Age of Piracy and become Edward Kenway, a charismatic yet brutal pirate captain, trained by Assassins.
  • The Crew: A revolutionary next-gen action-driving game to be released early 2014 and taking place in a massive open world version of the United States of America.
  • Might & Magic® Duel of Champions Online Card Game: An online strategy card game set in the fantastic Might & Magic® universe. Players can choose a hero, build their deck, and defeat opponents in epic card battles!
  • Might & Magic® Heroes® Online: A free-to-play strategy RPG game in which players control powerful Heroes and their armies, battling throughout the fantasy world of Ashan.
  • Might & Magic® X Legacy: An authentic solo experience in the classic first-person RPG genre, with a turn-based gameplay system. In Watch Dogs, players will be immersed in a living, breathing and fully connected recreation of Chicago.  Players will assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a new type of vigilante who, with the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago’s central operating system (ctOS) and control almost every element of the city. The city of Chicago is now the ultimate weapon.

Uplay, Ubisoft’s cross-game, cross-platform service, will be inviting a number of fans to an invitation-only party on August 21st to enjoy the Ubisoft booth after hours, meet their favorite development teams and celebrate the games! 400 fast passes will also be distributed to Gamescom attendees, inviting them to enjoy VIP treatment at the booth: pass holders can skip the lines and get straight to the games. New World of Warplanes Tutorial Video Released

Knott’s Scary Farm Announces Monster Job Fair and Auditions

Knott’s Berry Farm has announced both rehire and open hire event dates for their upcoming Knott’s Halloween Haunt attraction. Checkout the dates and times below if you are interested in trying out for a spot as a monster!

Friday, August 2

Maze Monster Rehire Event

Returning maze monsters will be invited back to reclaim their position in one of Knott’s 10 mazes. They will also have the opportunity to take the interactive scares to the next level by auditioning for one of the coveted street monster positions.

Monday, August 5

9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Open Hire Event

An open call to all those who have ever aspired to scare are invited down to fill positions for maze monsters, black outs, and line control. No previous monster experience required. Each year, the open hire event attracts over 2,000 hopeful applicants that come from far and wide.

The events will take place at the Knott’s Training Center. Enter through the Knott’s Hotel parking lot off of Crescent Ave in Buena Park, CA.
