The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Release Date

XCOM_E3_SCREENSHOT_IV

New York, NY – April 26, 2013 – 2K and 2K Marin, makers of BioShock® 2announced today that The Bureau: XCOM Declassified will be released on August 20, 2013 in North America and August 23, 2013 internationally for $59.99 SRP on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC. XCOM: Enemy Unknown, developed by Firaxis Games, dazzled turn-based strategy fans and rebooted the classic franchise. Now The Bureau will deliver a new experience within the XCOM universe.

Set in 1962 at the height of the Cold War, The Bureau tells the origin story of the clandestine XCOM organization’s first encounter with a mysterious and devastating enemy. Originally established as America’s covert defense against the Soviet Union, The Bureau must adapt and overcome a threat unlike anything the world has faced before. As special agent William Carter, players will call the shots and pull the trigger, leading their squad of agents in the high-stakes secret war for humanity’s survival. Paramount to repelling the outside threat is The Bureau’s ability to cover-up the enemy’s existence in order to prevent worldwide panic.

“We’re thrilled about 2K Marin’s refined vision for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “The game has evolved through a creative and iterative development process, and the result is a narrative-driven experience that is smart, engaging, and challenges players to think tactically.”

The Bureau tells the story of XCOM’s mysterious beginnings,” said Morgan Gray, creative director at 2K Marin. “We’re expanding the universe with a declassified tale of government conspiracy and heroic cover-ups told through third-person tactical gameplay.”

In the spirit of the XCOM franchise, The Bureau’s calculated combat design requires players to think and act tactically. The game’s third-person perspective gives the player a sense of spatial awareness and grants them the freedom to transition in and out Carter’s unique Battle Focus ability seamlessly – heightening the tactical shooter action. The Bureau also fully embraces the concept of permanent consequence. As our last line of defense, every command can mean the difference between life and death for Carter, his squad and mankind.

“The team has been working hard to leverage core XCOM elements like tactical decision-making and permanent death of squad mates in a purposeful way that makes this a unique tactical shooter,” added Gray. “To that end, The Bureau will challenge players unlike any other third-person tactical shooter.”

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified can be pre-ordered today at all participating retailers. Those who pre-order will receive the Codebreakers side-mission as a bonus. In this special campaign side-mission, a communications facility responsible for intercepting and interpreting the enemy’s transmissions has gone dark. Special Agent Carter and his squad must make contact with any remaining personnel and investigate the incident.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is not yet rated by the ESRB. For more information, please visit Facebook, or the official web site: http://erasethetruth.com.

arma3_alpha_screenshot_01

Prague, Czech Republic, Thursday 25th April 2013 — Bohemia Interactive has just released a new episode in the Arma 3 video guide series. Drawing on endless hours of multiplayer combat experience, Andrew Gluck (better known as Dslyexci from ShackTactical) narrates the video to share tips on how to be effective as a team in multiplayer.

The Multiplayer Teamwork guide is part of the video series which aims to introduce players to some of the basics in Arma 3. The previously released two episodes served as an introductionto the tactical shooter series and explored the topic of infantry combat. The Arma 3 Alpha, which was released over a month ago, forms the backdrop to these videos.

Featured in the Arma 3 Alpha are four showcase missions (Infantry, Vehicles, SCUBA and Helicopter), a limited subset of weapons and vehicles, two multiplayer scenarios, the powerful scenario editor and modding support. Whereas the final game will also feature the 270 km² Mediterrean island of Altis, the Alpha is positioned on Stratis – which hosts 20 km² of rugged terrain, expansive forests and a man-made airbase.

The Arma 3 Alpha (24.99 EUR/19.99 GBP/32.99 USD) and the Arma 3 Digital Deluxe Edition(39.99 EUR/34.99 GBP/49.99 USD) are available for purchase from Steam andStore.bistudio.com (include access to the Beta and a version of the complete game). The price of each edition will increase once the Arma 3 Beta and final game become available.

There is also a Lite variant of the Arma 3 Alpha available. This version is free, but does not support multiplayer or modding and requires an invite to access. These Alpha Lite invites can be obtained from people who have purchased the regular Arma 3 Alpha, and will be spread via various giveaways.

“The Madden NFL franchise has such a rich tradition and history, and there’s no better way to celebrate our 25th Anniversary than by having one of the best players of all-time on the cover,” said Anthony Stevenson, Senior Director of Marketing for EA SPORTS. “Barry Sanders has long been a fan favorite, so we’re proud to have him as the face of Madden NFL 25.”

The results were revealed during a 1 hour primetime special on SportsNation on ESPN 2 last night and also marked the debut of the Madden NFL 25 Run Free trailer.

Wargame AirLand Battle Beta Screens

wargame_airland_battle-036

April 25, 2013 — Wargame AirLand Battle, the sequel to the explosive real-time strategy game Wargame European Escalation, presents through 6 new screenshots some of its new battlefields, playable right now in early access Beta for all players who pre-order the game on Steam and the official website.

These screenshots show the huge gap separating the former battlefields from European Escalation to those of AirLand Battle. The new maps have evolved a lot since European Escalation: they are more varied, but also richer and more detailed, displaying impressive reliefs and huge urban areas, which all increase the strategic depth of Eugen Systems’ latest game.

The early access Beta gives an exclusive and immediate access to the ‘Destruction’ multiplayer mode, with the first 4 playable maps and pre-made army decks for all 12 nations of the game. Enough to plunge happily into the battle before everyone else, and participate in the last online tweaks before the official start of the conflict next month!

Good news never come alone: a special offer has been specially prepared for Wargame European Escalation players. For their pre-order, all owners of European Escalation get, ontop the Beta access, an exclusive 25% discount on Wargame AirLand Battle pre-order (on Steam and the official website)!

Wargame AirLand Battle will be available on PC in May 2013.

Nintendo Clarifies its E3 2013 Plans

Super Mario 3D Launch Event

Early this morning, bleary-eyed gamers were surprised to see that Nintendo president Iwata said the company would be skipping out of the E3 press conference war. Today, however, Nintendo of America’s SDCC, Charlie Scibetta, has issued a statement clearing up the company’s plan for the yearly gaming event. He released the following statement:

“As you’ve already seen, a lot of news about Nintendo games and services that traditionally would be held until E3 is being delivered this year through Nintendo Directs, and various press events. This approach will continue between now and E3. No matter where you are in the world, you’ll be fully informed. We look forward to continuing to provide you with Nintendo news and content in ways you haven’t before experienced. Beyond the news that will be communicated through Nintendo Direct videos in the run up to E3, at the show itself we’re hosting two smaller events on Tuesday morning before the LACC opens instead of just our traditional one event. A media event and a partner presentation will both occur that morning. While the audiences will be different between the two events, both will occur on the Tuesday morning of E3 (June 11) which is the date and time period the public has come to expect for Nintendo to deliver E3 news.

At the Nokia theater we’ll meet with business partners (retailers, publishers, analysts, etc.) from the NOA territory and discuss our plans for driving the business and providing tailored information that this group finds useful to their operations. Nintendo has done these same type of business meetings at past E3 shows, but has not in the past few years. This year we are returning to that business partner meeting format. New this year at our booth in the LACC, prior to the show opening, we’ll invite a small group of media to play our games. We will have a strong line-up of beloved franchise experiences available for immediate hands-on play. We are continuing to consider exciting new ways to bring the news of our games and information directly to the players at home during the E3 timeframe, and will have more to say about that at a later date.”

Nintendo Will Not Have Large E3 Press Event

nintendo-2

According to a Gametrailers post, Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, has stated that the company will not hold a traditional, large-scale E3 press event as they have done in years past. Instead, the company will be holding a number of smaller events focused directly on the West. Here is a translation of Satoru’s comment from a recent investor conference:

“Unlike previous years, we will not have a large-scale presentation [at E3] directed to everyone in the world. Instead, we are planning several smaller events focusing on software for America. Among these hands-on events will be one for American distributors and another for western media.”

Depending on who you ask, this is a wise or unwise decision for the company, whose Wii U console has sold 33% fewer units than expected. With the recent PlayStation 4 event and even more recent announcement that Microsoft will reveal the next Xbox on May 21, it is clear that Nintendo does not want to go head to head with the two gaming goliaths.
