Pure Farming 2018 Review

Pure Farming 2018 is Techland’s first-published farming game. Developed by Ice Flames, how does Pure Farming 2018 stack up against the rest of the farm sim market, which has several contenders for the farming crown? Pure Farming 2018 features a narrative story component, where you inherit a farm and have to tend to it. There are also several challenges modes and then a sandbox mode where players can cut their teeth on making their lands produce income generating crops. Each of these modes provides its own challenges and at least one will appeal to your typical farming game player.

The core mechanics of farming should be familiar to those veteran farming sim gamers out there. You plant, fertilize, water, harvest, and an assortment of other duties throughout the course of your farming day. The game features a solid array of vehicles and equipment options for you to make use of, and you can off-load some of your farming workload by hiring AI workers as well. Pure Farming 2018 features a well-designed UI that displays needed information on your field conditions and more, and should be a message to the farming sim genre that a properly-designed UI can enhance gamer satisfaction greatly. In some other farming games on the market, I found myself simply lost as there were no good tutorials or UI elements to guide me to my goals. Pure Farming 2018 features a fantastic tutorial element as part of the game’s story mode and gives you a good grasp on what you should be doing.

One of the areas where Pure Farming 2018 really shines is its driving mechanics. Operating all of the vehicles feels right and you get a nice sense of weight in the heavier ones as they plod along. The vehicle handling also changes depending on weather and weight changes. Another feather in Pure Farming 2018’s cap is its selection of locations to farm on. The game allows you to explore four locations from around the world: Germany, Italy, Columbia, and Montana – each of these areas has its own challenges and benefits.

Visually, the locations look good and the design and geometry of the various vehicles and pieces of equipment you utilize are outstanding. In terms of sound design, all of the machines sound great and you are also treated to a rich array of ambient sound effects. I especially liked the sim-like feature of the sound changing depending on whether you were “in-cockpit” or looking at your vehicle from an outside camera. There is an in-game radio for those of you looking to listen to music and you can also play your own music to boot.

Thanks to a recent patch, you can set the timescale to 1:1 and set the graphics to 16:10 resolutions! In fact, since release, the developers have pushed out two LARGE patches fixing and enhancing a vast array of things which gamers were having trouble with. It is very clear that Ice Flames has put heart and soul into Pure Farming 2018 and this is the kind of dedication that shows in the finished product. Pure Farming 2018 gives the Farming Simulator franchise a run for its money and will surely lead to some great competition as both games slug it out. Pure Farming 2018 does feature mod support, so it should be interesting to see what kinds of things the modders can come up with.

A Way Out Launch Trailer

REDWOOD CITY, California – March 23, 2018 – Today, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA), in partnership with Hazelight Studios, has launched A Way Out, the co-op cinematic story-driven adventure game, available worldwide on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Origin for PC. Developed by the team behind the critically-acclaimed indie title, Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons, players will take on the role of Leo and Vincent in A Way Out and must work together through their riveting escape from prison and beyond.

A Way Out is part of the EA Originals Program, which provides an elevated platform for up-and-coming independent game studios and their talented teams to bring innovative, memorable gaming experiences to players around the world, with the studio as sole profit beneficiary. As another prime example of the EA Originals core values, Hazelight is making it easier than ever before to play a co-op game by offering a “Friends Pass” program where, for the first time ever, players who purchase the game will be able to invite a friend to play the full experience of A Way Out with them for free online.

“We designed A Way Out as a dynamic narrative experience best played on the couch with a friend and as a co-op only game, I wanted people to play with their friend without gimmicks or a high cost, so we came up with the free Friends Pass offer” said Josef Fares, Writer and Director at Hazelight. “The game is designed so that players will need to build trust with one another by talking and making decisions together as they play. Intense moments and more meaningful points in the game build the relationship between both the characters and the players. On top of that, A Way Out has no repeated gameplay activities which creates a truly unique experience unlike anything played before.”

A Way Out’s compelling split-screen story follows the relationship between the brash and cocky Leo, and the calm, cool and in-control Vincent; their distinct personalities changing the way players will be able to interact with their surroundings beyond the prison walls. From high-stakes stealth passages, intense brawls and shootouts, to co-op fishing and mini-games, A Way Out is an emotional cinematic experience filled with action-packed moments that are balanced by fun, unique gameplay to be discovered.

A Way Out is rated M for Mature by the ESRB and is available now for $29.99 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Origin for PC. Starbreeze Sells Dead By Daylight to Behaviour Interactive for $16M

STOCKHOLM 21 March 2018 – Starbreeze has today decided to sell the publishing rights to the game Dead by Daylight to the developer, Behaviour Interactive Inc (Behaviour). Starbreeze will receive an initial payment of USD 4 million, followed by an additional USD 12 million paid in stages as royalties of 65 percent of game revenues. The deal will accelerate cash flows to Starbreeze from the game, which will strengthen Starbreeze earnings and free up capital for new projects. Starbreeze strategy to widen the game portfolio with additional publishing titles has not changed.

The publishing rights to the game will not be transferred to Behaviour until Starbreeze has been paid the entire consideration of USD 16 million. Until then, Starbreeze will retain control over the games payment streams and remain the official publisher of the game. Per 1st of January 2018, Behaviour however assumes the obligations of Starbreeze in connection with the game under the Publishing Agreement, including all development and marketing costs. Behaviour has the option to remit final payment of the remaining balance due at any time and thereby take over the rights at an earlier date.

“The publishing title Dead by Daylight has been a stellar deal for Starbreeze. We initially invested USD 2 million in developing the game, which has sold more than 3 million copies since release and generated approximately SEK 345 million in net sales. We are now concluding the partnership with Behaviour in a favourable manner and Dead by Daylight has become an even better deal for Starbreeze,” says Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson Klint. “In addition to securing and accelerating our revenues from the game, we will incur no costs related to further development and marketing. Through this deal, we expect the profits from the game to exceed our projection for the remaining lifespan for the title.”

“Our strategy to widen the game portfolio with additional publishing titles has not changed. We received an attractive offer from Behaviour that we have assessed as better for us in both the long and short terms. We aim to be ‘The Good Publisher’ and are happy to be a part of giving external development partners the opportunity to own their own future. It has been a joy working with Behaviour and we wish them continued success,” says Mikael Nermark, COO and Executive Vice President at Starbreeze.

According to the original publishing agreement, Starbreeze and Behaviour split net revenues from the game 50/50 after development and marketing costs. Revenues from Dead by Daylight amounted to SEK 202 million in 2017, which was split 50/50 with Behaviour. During the same period, Starbreeze incurred costs attributable to the game of SEK 34 million, resulting in a surplus to Starbreeze for the game of SEK 66 million in 2017. The effect of the deal on Starbreeze revenues and profit will be determined by how the sales of the game develop.

Dead by Daylight was initially released for PC in 2016 and the console version was released in 2017. Ten downloadable content (DLC) bundles have since been released. If the game follows the usual trend curve, sales revenues will decline in future years.

Upon expiration of the publishing agreement, Starbreeze will no longer have any rights connected to the game apart from rights to further compensation if the game is launched in China before 2020.

“We are incredibly proud of everything we have accomplished on Dead by Daylight, building a strong IP that has sold over 3 million copies. Our community is the backbone of our success and we are totally committed to continue investing and growing the game. We would like to thank the team at Starbreeze for their collaboration and efforts to jointly make Dead by Daylight a success,” says Rémi Racine, CEO and Executive Producer, Behaviour Interactive.
