Wargaming.net League 2016 Grand Finals Announced

January 21, 2016 — Wargaming is excited to announce the 2016 Grand Finals will be taking place on April 8–9 in Torwar Hall, Warsaw, Poland. This giant, international tournament is the crowning achievement for any Wargaming.net League team and signifies which World of Tanks players stand out from the rest.

Twelve elite eSports teams will take to the stage with the top two teams from North America, Europe, CIS, and Asia—plus three wildcards—and one team from China all competing over the $300,000 prize pool. With the new Tier X format rolling out, audiences can expect to see the biggest and best tanks in an intense event that’s not to be missed. Throwing in a maximum number of 68 Tier points to play with and an increased match time of 10 minutes (previously seven), teams will have to go back to the drawing board to reinvent their game plans.

“The Wargaming.net League Grand Finals represents the pinnacle of World of Tanks eSports,” said Mohammed Fadl, Head of Global Competitive Gaming, Wargaming. “During the 2015–2016 season, the WGL has given out over $3 million in prizes. For this year’s Grand Finals, we are putting up another impressive cash prize. We’ll see the best teams, taking to our biggest stage, with their reputations on the line.”

Last year’s Grand Finals, hosted at the EXPO XXI arena in Warsaw, drew more than 15,000 Wargaming fans to the venue and 2.6 million unique viewers online—all there to be a part of the Wargaming.net League’s biggest tournament to date. The winners of the event, HellRaisers, battled it out with EL Gaming to claim the crown. While they may be the current world champions, all bets are off on who will take home the coveted title in 2016.

The 2016 Grand Finals will be free to the public, with a variety of activities and exclusive prizes for attendees.

New Cities: Skylines Expansion Snowfall Announced

STOCKHOLM – Jan. 19, 2016Paradox Interactive, a seasoned publisher of games, today announced the newest expansion to Cities: Skylines, the best-selling city-builder from Colossal Order. The new expansion is titled “Snowfall” and will be available for players of Cities: Skylines on Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs later this year. Snowfall will allow mayor-players to expand and grow their cities using new transportation options while challenging them to meet citizens’ needs using several new in-game tools. All of these new inclusions will revolve around the expansion’s central feature: an in-game weather system.

In Snowfall, the difficulty heats up when the city cools down, thanks to a new in-game temperature reading that will have residents bundling up for warmth when the weather outside is frightful. Cosmetic weather, composed of rain and fog, will be added to Cities: Skylines as part of a free update, along with other features to be announced soon. Players who own Snowfall will get to face new challenges such as ensuring that their city infrastructure can handle seasonal heating demands – and, when the snow starts falling, that the roads can stay clear. New snowplow services will be required to prevent traffic from freezing in place, while new all-weather trams and expanded public transit options can help residents and visitors alike get around town – and visit the new winter parks and landmarks available in Snowfall.

Snowfall will include:

  • Now is the Winter of This Content: Rain and fog for existing maps, plus a new “Winter” map theme with snow and all of its challenges
  • The Streetcars You Desire: Expanded public transportation options, including easier management of existing lines – and Trams, a new system demanded by fans
  • World Warmth, Too: Cold weather increases demands for electricity, unless new water-based heat systems are in place
  • Plowers to the People: Build a snowplow depot to keep traffic flowing during winter weather, and employ new road maintenance systems to keep your streets in shape
  • New Chirps: #yeahthereare

Slain! Pushed Back to March 24

Wolf Brew Games and Digerati Distribution are sad to say from their deepest, darkest metal hearts that you’re going to have to wait a little longer before you can reign in the blood of monsters, demons and evil lords as the Nordic warrior Bathoryn in gruesome gothic puzzle-combat platformer Slain!.

The game needs a few last tweaks because right now no mortal man or woman could possibly get past Slain!’s intense platforming, traps and monstrosities. Luckily the wait isn’t too long as Slain! will now launch March 24 on Steam.

If you’re unfamiliar with Slain!, think Castlevania meets Metalocalypse meets Slayer. The game pays homage to the hack-and-slash action titles of the ‘80s and ‘90s, but features a strategic twist that has players use elemental weapons, Mana spells and cunning skill to exploit the weaknesses of enemies such as werewolves.

CES 2016 Photo Gallery

The press releases have happened, hands have been shaken, products have been showcased, and the press has tried to capture what they can of the information tsunami that was CES 2016.  The event is second only to the European show IFA in size and attendance and that is arguable because of how just how much of CES takes place off of official show floor in suites, trailers, and tents.  It is so large that it is easy to miss thousands of things while trying to see others.  So here is what I managed to see on my running around town making sure to try to see some of my friends who make it out for the event while at the same time seeing the technology of tomorrow from giants such as LG and Panasonic – a glimpse into our future lives… if we can afford it.

Drones, VR headsets, OLED displays, Ultra HD TVs and yet I still got to stop by booths with phone cases and notice trends such as smart cars, larger cupped headphones, and Google Cardboard based headsets.  Smart homes have settled heavily in the kitchen with refrigerators and ovens more widely being showcased by larger companies doing things smaller companies did years ago.  It’s like a sea of circuses with people like Noel Lee, “The Head Monster” at Monster, spinning on his Segway while spherical video rooms whirl with excitement.

GamingShogun.com walked the great show spaces and small meeting cubicles to try to bring you a visual glimpse of the “Electronic Disneyland” that is opened long enough to wear anyone down and yet never long enough to see everything you want.  Just make sure you hit Stern Pinball every year.  In the middle of madness, a game of pinball with the same beautiful physics from your childhood still intact will help maintain perspective when walking through the future.  This year, they brought back the classic “Whoa Nellie”, a very historical machine with a mischievous subject matter.  For now though, remember if you ever hit the show stay hydrated, take vitamins and get your flu shots, though this is a worldly show with worldly ailments as well.

Wargaming Announces “Project R” for World of Warships

January 18, 2016 — Wargaming today announced “Project R”, the brand-new community campaign for World of Warships, is now live. In “Project R”, players must reach various milestones to earn Pearls, which they use to rebuild the famed Japanese destroyer Kamikaze with unique camouflage, as well as unlock fantastic in-game rewards.

“‘Project R’ is a great opportunity for us to engage with the vibrant World of Warships community and provide great content in a fun way,” said Jacek Pudlik, Associate Publishing Producer, Wargaming Europe. “We’re all looking forward to seeing just what the fans of the game are capable of who the really standout players will be.”

To earn Pearls, captains must challenge special “Project R” in-game missions. By completing these missions and achieving various milestones, they can also earn credits, Premium Account, camouflage and other boosts which are based on an individual’s contribution. What’s more exciting: if the community reaches the milestone of 32.5 million, Kamikaze will be completed and 1,000 Japanese destroyers will be randomly given to participants who collected 150 Pearls or more.

“Project R” lasts for five weeks, giving the whole community a boatload of time to band together and scourge the oceans in search of awesome rewards.
