pillars-of-eternity-2

5. Pillars of Eternity (Obsidian Entertainment, PC)

Obsidian Entertainment brought classic gaming into modern times with Pillars of Eternity. The game is a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed game series Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale, along with the game Planescape: Torment. Top 5 Horror Movies of 2015

As 2015 is quickly coming to a close, we wanted to take a moment and bring you our top 5 horror movies of the year.

Our #5 pick for the top horror movies of 2015 is a bit of indecisiveness but we just loved all three of them…

5. Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse / Krampus / A Christmas Horror Story (Tied)

krampus-achristmashorror-scoutsguide

These three movies were all great despite some minor issues and, when looked at overall, we liked them evenly. Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is the story of three friends, who happen to be scouts, and how they deal with growing up and each other during a zombie apocalypse. Krampus is the latest film from Trick R Treat director Michael Daugherty and deals with a family under siege by the titular Krampus. A Christmas Horror Story is a cool horror anthology flick based around the Christmas holiday directed by Grant Harvey, Steve Hoban, and Brett Sullivan.

D23 2016 Member Gifts Offer Glimpse Into Walt Disney’s Legacy

BURBANK, Calif. – December 29, 2015 D23: The Official Disney Fan Club didn’t have to look far for inspiration for its 2016 Gold Member gift, “From the Office of Walt Disney.” To celebrate the restoration of Walt Disney’s office suite on the Studios’ Burbank lot, the Walt Disney Archives worked with D23 to meticulously reproduce 23 unique pieces from Walt’s career that trace his path from America’s heartland to the world stage.

Included in the assortment are items from Walt’s early years in business such as his 1923 Laugh-O-gram Films Inc. business card and the famous 1928 “Everything OK” telegram, which Walt cryptically wired his brother Roy when he lost the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Also in the collection are the 1955 Disneyland invitational press preview pass and Walt’s notes on pages from the “EPCOT Film” script from 1966. Pieces representing animation, live action, television, and theme parks—as well as Walt’s own personal life—make up this one-of-a-kind set.

The gift comes in a “book” designed specifically to hold all the items and will be sent to all D23 Gold and Gold Family Members who join or renew from January 1 through December 31, 2016. Guests can see images from the gift—and learn more about the 23 rare items—at D23.com/OfficeOfWaltDisney. HumanEyes Technologies to Present Under $1000 Dollar 360 3D VR Camera at CES

Virtual Reality 3D content is one of the hottest trends in tech right now but currently requires expensive and technically complicated equipment to create. This is set to change at CES Unveiled, when HumanEyes Technologies unveils VUZE, a camera and software suite priced under $1,000 that will make 360 3D VR content far more accessible to the masses. We will be showing off the device as well as the amazing content it creates at CES Unveiled and will be giving out free VR headsets to the first 50 attendees to visit it us on the night. Be sure to stop by and see the future of content capture.

We can also provide further news of VUZE under embargo which is a technological and industry breakthrough in three main areas:

  • The VUZE Camera combines advanced 3D and 2D capture technology using 8 Full HD cameras within an easy–to–use ‘point and shoot’ form–factor that facilitates to create full stereophonic and spherical content.
  • The VUZE Studio brings groundbreaking advances in 360 3D content creation with near real–time processing (1 minute per minute) and seamless stitching thanks to a proprietary technique called Adaptive Blending that mimics the way the human eye interacts with the brain to form pictures in the mind.
  • Finally, the VUZE agnostic approach means content can be enjoyed on its own lightweight VUZE VR Headset or on ANY VR player, VR headset, cardboard or 3D device or TV.

It will be first shown at CES Unveiled at Mandalay Bay, North Convention Center, South Pacific Ballroom on January 4, 4–7:30pm. VUZE will also be creating and demonstrating 360 3D VR throughout CES at the Sands Expo Center, Hall G booth #82717.

Mad Catz F.R.E.Q. 9 Wireless Headset Review

When I find a headset I like I tend to wear it into the ground. The funny part about writing for GamingShogun.com is I get to try out so many headsets so that I now rotate between them most of the time. Ever so often, one comes along that slows my rotation to a crawl or even a standstill because I just like everything about it so much. The latest headset to do that to me is the Mad Catz F.R.E.Q. 9 Wireless headset.

Hands On:
There are a lot of tech specs to list about this headset which will sound like techno voodoo to the layperson’s ears: AM3D’s Zirene Surround Sound, Hyper-fast, Ultra-clean aptX Low Latency Digital Wireless, Soundchip’s Digital Active Noise Cancellation (D-ANC), binaural monitoring activation, Dynamic Source Switching through on-ear switching, and rechargeable, Li-ion battery all with a snappy carrying case. Unless you’re a tech head, that probably made your eyes glaze over a bit. Don’t worry, setup is so easy it just has a bunch of pictures without words and I can tell you what that all will mean to your everyday performance.

First off let’s breakdown what this headset is compatible with: everything Bluetooth as well as most PCs and consoles and devices without Bluetooth. If your PC doesn’t have Bluetooth you will probably have problems using the in game mic and the Xbox One may require an adapter but this headset even works with smart tvs which can be pretty darn handy when watching/gaming in bed with someone sleeping next to you.

MCB43401_Freq9_Wireless_Surround_Headset_MB_003_lg

So let’s break down the features. AM3D’s Zirene Surround Sound means that is not just true theater quality, it is military grade. This sound setup was designed for F/A-18 fighter pilots to be able to determine enemy targets by the direction of the sound. So instead of hearing the music in your head like you are used to it actually creates a sound landscape that mimics natural environmental hearing. So if the game’s sound is up to snuff then you can actually tell the direction footsteps are or gun shots are coming from as if you were actually in the battlefield. The opportunities for horror gaming alone is substantial, you can hear the creaks and scratching nails, maniacal giggling coming not just from behind you but over your left shoulder… you see the possibilities. If a movie or song is done in true surround sound you will hear the sounds in the area around you instead of in different parts of your head. It’s like you are sitting in the middle of it instead of simply witnessing it.

The Hyper-fast, Ultra-clean aptX Low Latency Digital Wireless audio is a long phrase for no lag or lip sync sound issues. Your voice and sound will match up properly so if you are streaming you won’t looked like a badly dubbed foreign film and you won’t hear a bunch of gunshots after you have been mowed down in game. It’s designed to have a wireless distance of about 33 ft. which seemed conservative upon testing as long as you maintained line of sight though with wall interference became about right (how often do you get 33 ft. from a game and not cross a wall?). If you are taking your game to the spectator level or have a game that relies heavily on sounds to cue you in to dangers this is paramount.

Soundchip’s Digital Active Noise Cancellation (D-ANC) is a fancy system that works with the ear cups to block out everything that isn’t your music, movie game or whatever you are trying to listen to. Whether it is a long bus ride, a tournament or just trying to play your games in a noisy household you can concentrate on what you want to hear.

Along those lines, the binaural monitoring activation does the same thing for your listeners or teammates. Did your family decide to have a blow out fight right in the middle of your raid? Don’t worry there are two mics in your headset, one to pick up your voice and one to figure out the other noises around you and cancel them out. If you are broadcasting or recording at an event this will recognize your mic and block out the thunderous murmur of large convention crowds (if you have never experienced such a thing be grateful though I imagine most of our faithful readers know the sound). If I were walking through a large convention such as CES and waiting for a call I would probably where these listening to music and when my call comes through I can pick it up with the touch of a button on the headset, no wires, and have a good chance that the caller would actually hear me clearly despite the noise. If I am at home and playing a game and see a call has come in on my phone I can hit a button on the headset, again no wires needed and answer the call thanks to the Dynamic Source Switching system on the ear section of the headset.

Now it would be a legitimate concern that all these extra bells and whistles would eat away at the power supply but that is where the last feature mentioned above comes into play, the Li-ion battery. Even with all the techno voodoo we are still looking at about a 20 hour battery life! If you are going more than 20 hours in a row you are running into other problems like fatigue and blood clots. That means it’s time to take a break when the headset decides to.

Last Words:
Mad Catz F.R.E.Q. 9 is one of those ultimate headsets that is reaching into the future while you are still getting your head around you daily tech. Wireless, Bluetooth and across the board system compatibility makes it the perfect headset for around the house and on the go. It even looks bad ass. It retails for $159.99 and is available now at Mad Catz official online store.

Live product demonstrations—as well as the startup’s founders, Head of Sales, and other executives—will be at Booth #80420 in the Eureka Park section of CES, January 6-9.

New Screenshots from The Technomancer

December 24, 2015 – The Technomancer, Spiders’ new sci-fi RPG, offers a rich and varied bestiary, that you will come across and confront in combat during your journey on Mars. In this new series of screenshots, discover a few of these strange creatures conceived and brought to life by the talented teams at Spiders studios.

Although Mars’ red surface is naturally barren and completely devoid of life, hundreds of years of human civilization has led to the creation and evolution of many hybrid species built from the genetic makeup of animals found on Earth. What was first an exercise to create an ecosystem to support the original settlers eventually grew out of control, following the cataclysm that wiped most settlers and isolated Mars from Earth. Mutations and accelerated evolution forged what little life there was into threatening beasts scattered all over the red planet.

While originally bred as domestic animals, the harsh living conditions on Mars led these creatures to develop effective defense mechanisms – poison, camouflage, brute force… The longer Mars is cut off from Earth, the more dangerous Mars’ new wildlife grows. They will aggressively defend their territory should you trespass it.

Today’s screenshots show a few of these creatures. Mastery of The Technomancer’s visceral combat styles and electrical powers should help you survive the bizarre hybrid species of Mars!

Your quest on Mars begins early 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC!

BFG BELTminus Review

BELTminus is an extremely lightweight and thoroughly modernized version of the classic M-1956 Load-Carrying Equipment. The belt kit concept moves your gear onto your waist for improved cooling and more efficient weight bearing. BELTminus™’ MOLLEminus™ technology is fully MOLLE compatible and removes unnecessary weight and complexity while improving durability. In usage, the BELTminus is a sort of hybrid between a more traditional chest rig and a battle belt. You can definitely mount pouches around its body – both ammo and utility, but it is thin to safely mount a pistol holster.

Routing pouch straps through the MOLLE compatible webbing on the BELTminus is pretty easy due to the lack of restrictive material on the backside of the belt. The biggest issue I had while using the Blue Force Gear BELTminus system was that, sometimes when performing specific maneuvers, gear housed on the belt can dig into your body as there is no supporting backpiece.

The BELTminus comes in several sizes for the most exact fit as possible allowing for the best gear loadout and the maximum weight savings.  For best sizing, choose the closest size below to your actual waist size.  Note: this may be different than your pants size.

  • XS: 31” – 41” waist
  • S: 34” – 44” waist
  • M: 37” – 47” waist
  • L: 40” – 50” waist
  • XL: 43” – 53” waist

Aside from this occasional issue, the BELTminus system is very comfortable. The version of the system we got to review featured the heavier duty shoulder pads which allow for more weight to be comfortably carried. There is a lower profile version available sans the shoulder pads. This version would work well underneath the wearer’s clothing as a concealed option.

Overall, Blue Force Gear has continues its line-up of rock solid products with the BELTminus system. The product retails for $120 with the low profile shoulder straps and $160 for the version with heavy duty pads. It is available now.
