Summer Game Fest Kickoff Date Announced

This June, celebrate the future of video games with the return of Summer Game Fest, an all-digital, free global fan festival. Featuring updates for fans from more than 30 of the industry’s leading game publishers, developers and platforms, Summer Game Fest will include a lineup of original programming, publisher live stream events and more, which fans can watch for free on their streaming platform of choice.

“As a free, fan-first, global experience, Summer Game Fest will bring the entire video game community together for a memorable month of announcements and updates,” said Geoff Keighley, curator, Summer Game Fest.

Summer Game Fest will include updates for fans from the following partners, with more to be announced (in alphabetical order): 2K, Activision, Amazon Games, Annapurna Interactive, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Battlestate Games, Blizzard Entertainment, CAPCOM, Devolver Digital, Dotemu, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Finji, Frontier, Gearbox Publishing, Hi-Rez Studios, Inner Sloth, Koch Media, Mediatonic, MiHoYo, PlayStation, Psyonix, Raw Fury, Riot Games, Saber Interactive, SEGA, Steam, SQUARE ENIX, Tribeca Festival, Tencent Games, Warner Bros. Summer Game Fest will blast off with Kick Off Live!, a spectacular world premiere showcase streaming globally on Thursday, June 10 at 11 am PT / 2 pm ET/ 6 pm GMT. Produced and hosted by Geoff Keighley, creator of The Game Awards, Kick Off Live! will feature more than a dozen world premieres and announcements from select publishers, while also serving as a preview of the exciting publisher livestream events planned during Summer Game Fest.

Kick Off Live! will include a live performance by Weezer, who will debut a brand new, stream safe game soundtrack song that can be freely streamed on Twitch, YouTube and anywhere else without being blocked or losing monetization, in an effort to help eliminate the challenges creators often encounter with popular music. This summer Weezer, along with Green Day and Fall Out Boy, will hit the road for The Hella Mega Tour, a 21-city U.S. outing, bringing the bands to some of the most renowned stadiums including Dodger Stadium, Wrigley Field, Citi Field, Fenway Park, and more.

In addition, Days of the Devs, an in-depth showcase of exciting new independent games, produced and curated by iam8bit and Double Fine Productions, will be featured as part of the Kick Off Live! broadcast.

“The Day of the Devs team handpicked the best of the games and performances from hundreds of submissions from all around the world. What they’ve put together is, for the ninth year in a row, an incredibly inspiring celebration of gaming’s creative spirit,” said Tim Schafer, founder of Double Fine Productions and co-founder of Day of the Devs.

As part of Summer Game Fest, select publishers will directly update fans with free live streamed events, which will be indexed and available to watch on summergamefest.com. Starting today, fans can visit summergamefest.com for a constantly updated calendar of events as they are announced by publishers.

Summer Game Fest’s original programming, including Kickoff Live, will be distributed across all major streaming platforms, including Facebook, Twitch, Twitter, YouTube and more global outlets, and also be available for co-streaming by creators around the world. Amazon’s Prime Gaming will serve as a sponsor of Summer Game Fest.

Frontier Developments plc (AIM: FDEV) confirmed today that, after a successful 5-week public Alpha phase, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, releases on May 19 for Windows PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and FrontierStore.net.

Building upon an install base of 12 million Elite owners, the launch of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey marks the next exciting step in Frontier’s long-term vision for Elite Dangerous, heralding the start of a new era for the definitive space simulation. Unknown Worlds Entertainment has released the highly anticipated sequel Subnautica: Below Zero for players worldwide to brave the cold and dive into life on Planet 4546B. Subnautica: Below Zero is a new chapter in the Subnautica universe that will drop players into a freezing underwater adventure, set after the events of the original Subnautica. Below Zero challenges players to survive the icy biomes of an alien planet by crafting tools and scavenging for supplies as players unravel its mysteries.

An exclusive clip from Marvel Studios’ “Loki” was shown during this past weekend’s 2021 MTV “Movie & TV Awards,” airing live from the Palladium and hosted by Leslie Jones. Marvel Studios’ “Loki” features the God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow in a new series that takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” Tom Hiddleston returns as the title character, joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs “Loki,” and Michael Waldron is head writer.

The latest entry in the best-selling first-person sniping franchise is less than one month away, and CI Games is excited to showcase the full gameplay experience on offer with its latest Gameplay Overview trailer. This new trailer provides a deepdive into the variety of gameplay available in Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, including sandbox-style maps, customisable weapons and equipment, and, of course, its shiny new feature — 1000m+ extreme-range sniping.

As well as new distances, the title also promises to take the franchise to new heights as the most visually impressive entry yet, when it launches on June 4th, 2021 for Xbox SeriesX/S, Xbox One, PS4 and PC. All PS4 editions of the game qualify for a free digital upgrade to the PS5 version, which will arrive later in the year.

The Gameplay Overview trailer’s powerful narration is voiced by none other than Abubakar Salim, an established actor who’s fast becoming a mainstay in entertainment. Salim provided the voice of Rokhan in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth (2018), the protagonist, Bayek, in Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017), and also contributed to the latest entry, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (2020). Xbox Celebrates 20 Years of Gaming

Starting today through November 2021, Xbox will be celebrating 20 years of gaming, commemorating the first console launch in North America, followed by many more launches around the world.

Time travel back to 2001 with us for a moment: Mary J. Blige had the number one song on the Billboard Hot 100, Monsters, Inc. and Britney Spears set a new trend in fashion wearing a dress made entirely of denim. And best of all, fans met Master Chief and Cortana for the first time. However, playing on Xbox meant hooking up your console with three (or more!) cables to a standard TV, pre-ordering games and standing in line at your favorite retail store to pick them up and playing games by yourself or at a friend’s house sitting next to them on the couch.

Fast forward to present day, and gaming looks wildly different! You can play a variety of games with more diverse heroes than ever before, with friends all over the planet on a console, your laptop PC or mobile.
