Arrow Video Unveils October 2021 Releases Including DEEP RED

October officially marks the start of spooky season and Arrow has the movies to make sure it’s frightfully fun! The party starts on October 19, Arrow switches gears to Japanese folklore with the release of Yokai Monsters Collection. This limited edition 3-disc set brings the complete monster trilogy from Daiei Film (100 Monsters, Spook Warfare, Along With Ghosts) together on Blu-ray for the first time. Despite not gaining much attention outside of Japan, the films have developed a legacy for their use of special effects and puppets. This new set will look to introduce a new generation of fans to this spectacular world of Japanese monsters and ghosts. Also included is the 2005 film The Great Yokai War from legendary director Takashi Miike. The Great Yokai War was Miike’s attempt at rebooting the series. Miike’s film received a sequel, The Great Yokai War: Guardians, earlier this year.

Also releasing on October 26 is perhaps the month’s highlight, as Dario Argento’s landmark classic, Deep Red, comes home with a snazzy new 4K ultra HD Blu-ray. Deep Red is one of the most iconic Italian films of all time and arguably Argento’s masterpiece. The opening scene of a brutal axe murder is one of the most grisly death scenes ever depicted and the pulsating score courtesy of Goblin is top shelf. This 2-disc set includes both the 127-minute original Italian version of the film and the full 105-minute export version, including the scenes that were never dubbed in English. This limited edition release includes a collector’s booklet, double-sided foldout poster, 6 lobby cards, and more.

And last but not least, He Came from the Swamp: The William Grefe Collection is coming on October 26. Renegade filmmaker William “Wild Bill” Grefe has bravely explored the dark depths of the Florida everglades in a way few filmmakers have. This 4-disc set includes seven different films from the independent director, all of which have been restored using the best remaining film elements. This set is a standard issue release of a special edition set released last November. The special edition sold out quickly but continues to get rave reviews, with Quentin Tarantino recently praising it on the New Beverly podcast.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Gets Two 80s Inspired Music Videos

Today, Eidos-Montréal debuted a new, unapologetically ‘80s music video to celebrate the official release of “Zero to Hero,” the second face-melting single from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s Star-Lord Band. Both of the group’s singles are also featured on the official Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Original Video Game Playlist, which has also been released today.

Inspired by classic ‘80s cartoons, the animated music video amps up the nostalgia factor to 11 and gives viewers a taste of why superfan Peter Quill was inspired to adopt the “Star-Lord” moniker in the game’s universe. But that’s not all! Eidos-Montréal has also released a vintage VHS recording of the Star-Lord Band performing the single on stage in all their long-haired glory, and combined it with the animated music video to create a headbangin’ extended cut.

Including the Star-Lord Band’s “Zero to Hero” and “Space Riders with No Names,” the Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Original Video Game Playlist features 30 iconic licensed tracks from legendary artists such as Mötley Crüe, Bonnie Tyler, Billy Idol, Pat Benetar, Def Leppard, BLONDIE, and many more. All songs on the playlist will also be featured in the game itself, with an optional toggle for players who wish to replace them with stream-safe alternatives as needed.

New Dying Light 2 Stay Human BTS Video Talks Game Soundtrack

Dive deep into the world of Dying Light 2 Stay Human in the latest Dying 2 Know More episode, where renowned composer Olivier Derivière (Streets of Rage 4, Vampyr, A Plague Tale: Innocence) details a special custom-built instrument creating extraordinary in-game sounds and shares the inspiration behind Dying Light 2’s main theme, “Run, Jump, Fight”.

Fashioned from an old bike wheel, a steel rod, several metal wires, and other refuse of the city, the Electric Psaltery evokes the scrappy ingenuity of Villedor’s survivors, as if pulled right from the game world itself. Designed by DIY instrumentalist and musician Nicolas Bras, the Electric Psaltery’s strings, which can be plucked or bowed, correspond with specific in-game characters. The “wheel of fate” that rests atop the psaltery makes a soft rattle when spun, which can be heard in-game when making major decisions that will affect the story, characters, or world.

To truly bring the ambitious Dying Light 2 Stay Human soundtrack to life, Olivier Derivière and Techland collaborated with one of the world’s best orchestras, the London Contemporary Orchestra. Together in Abbey Road Studios, Olivier and the Orchestra recorded the entire soundtrack, creating a musical experience players won’t forget.

“It supports narrative by generating nostalgia in certain moments, encourages bravery in battles by adding to the adrenaline with the right tunes, and energizes the player, pushing them to try harder as they parkour through The City,” said Adrian “Pyza” Ciszewski, Creative Director of Dying Light 2 Stay Human. “This close collaboration between us has led to the sound developing in line with our artistic vision of what we’re going to see on the screen and blending in with it perfectly. It was an ambitious project, yes, but we had a lot of fun, and seeing the end result has definitely made it worth the effort.”

Revealing Dying Light 2’s main theme, “Run, Jump, Fight”, just before the latest Dying 2 Know episode, Olivier said, “It has been an amazing journey working with Techland on creating the unique soundscape of the game and pushing boundaries for open-world music design.” The track’s strings, brass, and drums evoke running, jumping, and fighting, respectively. Watch the latest Dying 2 Know More episode to learn how the soundtrack for Dying Light 2 Stay Human was created and recorded by icons of the music industry.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human, published by Techland, launches February 4, 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch (Cloud Version). Pre-orders are now available via dyinglightgame.com/preorder. All pre-orders will come with an exclusive digital Reload Pack, featuring a unique outfit, weapon, and paraglider skin.

The Long Dark Episode Four Is Out Now with A Launch Trailer

Hinterland is proud to announce that Episode Four of The Long Dark’s immersive narrative mode is available today on PC and console. Episode Four: Fury, Then Silence continues Will Mackenzie’s journey, as the crashed pilot navigates a tense situation at Blackrock Federal Penitentiary. All the while, players will be able to explore an all-new region built around the imposing Blackrock Mountain. Episode Four offers between 8-12 hours of play time, 60 minutes of new cinematics, and 40 minutes of original music, as well as introducing new key characters and setting up for the finale in Episode Five.

What’s new in Episode Four?

  • New Region, BLACKROCK: Episode Four takes place in a brand new region built around Blackrock Mountain. The Penitentiary is the region’s main point of interest, itself featuring multiple locations including the Prison Block, the Infirmary, Barracks, etc., but there are also several other locations in the broader region including a Substation, a Power Plant, the Steam Tunnels under the prison complex, and a three-level deep Mine at the foot of Blackrock Mountain.
  • New Tool, NOISEMAKER: Blackrock Region is heavily “patrolled” by Timberwolf Packs, The Long Dark’s most dangerous wildlife. The Noisemaker — crafted from Cans, Gunpowder, and Cloth for a fuse — serves as a useful deterrent and is one of the most effective ways to break Wolfpack morale.
  • New Lighting: The lighting model in the game has been completely redone, making Episode Four the best-looking episode yet.
  • Improved Cinematic Narrative: Episode Four represents Hinterland’s strongest work in cinematic narrative to date.
  • Character models and animation fidelity have also been improved.

“We’re thrilled to bring people back into the story of Mackenzie and Astrid, and into the frigid wilderness of Great Bear Island,” said Raphael van Lierop, Creative Director at Hinterland. “I’m so proud of this team, which has pushed hard through a global pandemic to deliver what I believe is our strongest episode to date. Get ready to face Mathis and the dangers of Blackrock Prison, in Fury, Then Silence.”

Episode Four: Fury, Then Silence is available as a free download to existing owners of The Long Dark starting October 6 on Steam and Epic Games Store for PC and Mac, Xbox One (Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility), PlayStation 4 (PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility), and Nintendo Switch. The Long Dark is available for $34.99 USD (exact pricing dependent on platform and territory), and it includes all five episodes of the WINTERMUTE story mode, as well as its robust, award-winning Survival Mode.
