Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy Detail Look at Closed Beta

Today, Owlcat Games shared a detailed look inside the Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy Closed Beta, now available to all Founder’s Pack owners on PC. The Closed Beta opens the game’s complete first Act — around 20 hours of investigations, combat encounters, and companion recruitment in the Imperial sector of Scintilla — and reveals the systems through which the Acolytes of the Inquisition pursue heresy across the Calixis Sector.

The blog post detailing what players will encounter during the Closed Beta:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3710600/view/710026912607504543

At the centre of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy sits a dedicated investigation system. Acolytes gather evidence across multiple locations, interview witnesses, and cross-reference their findings in an in-game journal that flags contradictions as they emerge. Companions can be consulted mid-mission to apply their specialist knowledge to a stalled lead. When the investigation concludes, the player resolves it by either uncovering the literal truth of what occurred or by assigning blame in a manner that better serves the Inquisition’s long-term objectives. Both paths carry consequences.

Ten companions are recruitable across the Closed Beta, each carrying a unique background ability nobody else can replicate. Acolytes can travel, among others, with the Eldar Wayseeker Laarthyr Cairnareth, the Kroot Ra’akhti, an Adeptus Mechanicus tech-priest, an Ogryn warrior, a Pariah whose presence shuts down every psychic power in her zone of influence, and Aspice Chorda of the Chorda Dynasty — a name familiar to Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader veterans.

Combat has been rebuilt around purpose. Encounters in the Closed Beta carry secondary objectives beyond simply defeating every enemy on the field: hostages to rescue, targets to capture alive for interrogation, warp rifts to seal before they spread. Supporting that approach is a new individual morale system replacing Rogue Trader’s shared momentum, an immediate zone of influence around every combatant, an interruptible concentration mechanic for major enemy actions, and armor that functions as a separate resource pool. Acolytes who break an enemy squad’s morale completely can end an encounter without a single kill, choosing to execute the survivors or take them in for questioning.

The beta also contains character creation. Players may choose from five Tier-1 archetypes — Warrior, Officer, Operative, Soldier, and the new Mystic archetype for sanctioned psykers — along with four origins, three home worlds, and nine body types. Specialisations replace Rogue Trader’s broader talent pool, while ability modifications layer long-term depth onto the build. The Sanctioned Psyker origin also stands on its own, leaving room for unconventional acolytes such as a Warrior who manipulates the warp or a Soldier with a sanctioned gift.

The Closed Beta will remain open until the game’s release, and player feedback collected throughout will inform the final build. Founder’s Pack owners can access the Closed Beta through the official website.

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy will launch on Windows PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store) and consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S).

Outward 2 Delayed to 2027

Nine Dots Studio announced today that Outward 2 will no longer launch into Early Access on July 7th. Instead, the game is now targeting a 2027 release with more specific timing to be announced in the near future. Here’s a message from Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, Nine Dots Studio CEO and Outward 2 Creative Director:

Hi everyone,

I know that this might seem sudden, as not that long ago we released a trailer inviting people to explore Aurai this summer, but the truth is that if we just stubbornly stick to the plan, we’re delivering a product that might not satisfy your expectations. The last thing we want to do is disappoint fans of Outward and there have been a lot of comments stating that they wish for the game to spend more time in development before the launch. The point of a playtest is to listen to feedback, and so we will.

Dropping this news is especially painful, knowing that some of our most dedicated players actually planned their summer break around the release date. It sucks for you, and I personally apologize to everyone affected this way. However, it would be even worse if you ended up playing something over your vacation that you were not even happy with.

It’s hard to gauge what the appropriate degree of stability is for Early Access. The best we can do is take a hard, honest look at the game, and at our team, and ask: in a few weeks, will this be good enough to charge money for? Our aim is to have such a stark jump between this playtest and the Early Access launch that we earn the trust of our players. You were there for the first Outward and that’s why we were successful. We want you to be happy to be there again for Outward 2.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our beta and playtests, who provided feedback, who shared our news, talked with us directly during streams or on Discord. I apologize that we couldn’t give you the game you guys deserve on time. I guess that’s game development’s equivalent of a defeat scenario: a setback and we come back better prepared.

Guillaume AKA Gheeyom
CEO and Creative Director

Outward 2 will be available on Windows PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.

Dead by Daylight 10th Anniversary Broadcast

Dead by Daylight, the groundbreaking horror multiplayer from Behaviour Interactive, hit rarified air on Sunday as it welcomed thousands of fans from around the world to Montreal in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Not only can few live service titles boast such a milestone, but fewer still can claim to have reached it on the heels of back-to-back record setting years – a testament to the game’s enduring popularity. Following a day-long fan event in Montreal’s Old Port filled with panels, meet-and-greets, art, photo ops, and more, the development team took to the stage to shine a light on the next decade of Dead by Daylight.

Chapters and Collaborations

Fresh off some of the biggest releases in its history, Dead by Daylight made one thing clear: the next 10 years in The Fog will be every bit as ambitious as the last. Fans in attendance were treated to a standout slate of licensed and original content, alongside thrilling new collaborations that promise to keep the scares coming in some truly unique ways.

Kicking things off was a recap of the game’s upcoming Chapter as beloved horror icon, Jason Voorhees, finally hacks his way into The Fog after a decade of demand. Dead by Daylight: Jason releases June 16 on all platforms. Next, was the surprise reveal of a Survivor-focused Chapter featuring original character Shane Wiigwaas, the game’s first Indigenous Survivor. Dead by Daylight: The Life Road follows shortly after Jason, releasing June 25 on all platforms.

Also revealed, newly minted horror icon Art the Clown is poised to enter The Entity’s Realm with Dead by Daylight: Terrifier set to release in November of this year. This follows the August release of Dead by Daylight: Chorus of Sin – the game’s first-ever Chapter developed entirely in collaboration with its community.

Looking even further ahead, early announcements for 2027 include a Chapter adaptation of Dead by Daylight’s first narrative-driven title, The Casting of Frank Stone.

The Future of Dead by Daylight

On the gameplay front, the Dead by Daylight team pulled back the curtains on one of the most ambitious initiatives in the game’s history, setting the stage for a new era in The Fog.

Leading the charge is a sweeping visual overhaul targeted for rollout in 2027. Designed to make every Trial more immersive and emotionally impactful, the update will introduce new character model reworks with expanded animation capabilities, alongside realistic facial animations that bring greater expression and nuance to characters. Maps and environments will also receive significant upgrades, including enhanced lighting, shading, and textures, improved Fog and Mist effects, a stronger Entity presence, and, for the first time in Dead by Daylight, dynamic weather systems featuring light rain, heavy rain, and storms. New voice lines for all applicable original characters will additionally be recorded and introduced over time as part of the initiative.

A wider selection of new Game Modes is also being rolled out in the coming years, with early details for 1v1 Mode and Zombie Mode shared.

Finally, in a move that will allow its community to create, experiment, and express themselves in the game like never before, Dead by Daylight will be officially opened up to sandboxed modding. The team is currently working on a suite of tools to put in players’ hands sometime next year that will give them everything they need to cook up and share new Maps, Modes, and everything in between.

The Dead by Daylight Movie

Behaviour Interactive Executive Vice President Stephen Mulrooney provided fans with a highly anticipated update on the upcoming Dead by Daylight film, joined on stage by fellow producer Jason Blum from Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

With a screenplay by Alexandre Aja and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick already completed, the trio unveiled Thordur Palsson as the film’s director and invited him onstage to share his vision for adapting the world of Dead by Daylight for audiences everywhere.

New Collections Revealed

The team also gave a sneak preview of several of the game’s upcoming Collections. The Black Banquet Collection tied to this year’s Anniversary Event that runs from June 25th to July 16th, will offer players some party-appropriate formal wear. The desert-themed Sunflesh Collection will also deliver new looks as part of one of Dead by Daylight’s next Rifts.

Also announced were a new Eddie Legendary Outfit for The Huntress in honor of Iron Maiden’s 50th anniversary, and an Ice Nine Kills Collection inspired by the heavy metal band who thrilled fans at the event with the debut of their new Dead by Daylight-themed track and music video.

Expanding on existing franchises, The Walking Dead Collection will add Glenn and Negan as Legendary Outfits for Rick, while a new Silent Hill Collection Legendary Outfit for Cheryl will transform her into Shimizu Hinako from SILENT HILL f, the psychological horror game by KONAMI.

Finally, answering years of fan requests, one of the most highly anticipated Collections ever is finally coming to The Fog, bringing the beloved characters of Scooby-Doo into Dead by Daylight for the very first time while the newly announced Diablo Collection is set to bring a fresh wave of demonic forces to The Fog this October.

Ten years after players first stepped into The Fog, the future of Dead by Daylight has never looked brighter, or more terrifying.
