The Onion King has risen the Unbread (much to the disappointment of his faithful companion, Kevin) and he has tasked you with defeating them. As the greatest chefs in the land (well, the chefs that happen to be free at the time) you must chop, boil and bake your way through a series of crazy kitchens. Whether you’re serving sushi, pancakes, burritos or burgers, you must do so quickly and all while avoiding obstacles such as fire, collapsing floors, floating work surfaces and cars.

The Bard’s Tale Trilogy Launch Trailer

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Aug. 6, 2018 – inXile Entertainment, the studio led by Interplay founder and industry icon Brian Fargo, is proud to announce The Bard’s Tale Trilogy, a complete remaster of the legendary series that helped define the RPG genre. Featuring updated graphics and optional quality-of-life gameplay features, The Bard’s Tale Trilogy is the ideal way to experience the dungeon crawling challenge that made the original games beloved classics. The title will release on Aug. 14, 2018, for PC on both Steam and GOG.com with a retail price of $14.99.

Features of The Bard’s Tale Trilogy include:

Partnering with Australia-based Krome Studios, The Bard’s Tale Trilogy is an ambitious undertaking for inXile, especially as no complete source code for the original games could be found. Not only that, each game worked and looked differently depending on its platform, and each title was different in many ways from the others. Often times, it was discovered that features in some versions of the games were present but had no actual functionality.

“If archaeology and game development had a baby, it would be this project,” said Lindsay Parmenter, Head of Development at Krome. “By studying the code across different versions of the game, we were able to piece together developer intent and recreate it. Of course, having access to some of the original team members helped, too!”

inXile CEO Brian Fargo added, “We were extremely limited in what we could do in the 1980s. This is an opportunity to truly realize the vision that the original dev teams had, and in some cases fix a few bugs that are over thirty years old. Even with all the challenges this project presented, we’re thrilled with how this has turned out, and we can’t wait for our fans to start playing this.”

Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage Legacy Tabletop Game Announced

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (AUGUST 6, 2018) – White Wolf Entertainment, in cooperation with board game publisher Nice Game Publishing GmbH, has unveiled a new chapter in the Vampire: The Masquerade storytelling universe — Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage, a new Legacy-format game of Vampire clan politics and historical manipulation. In Heritage, designed by Babis Giannios — a long-time Vampire Storyteller, players take on the role of an ancient vampire, shaping over 700 years of kindred and human history through political machinations, subversion and secrecy. With first demo sessions being available at SPIEL ‘18, and set for full release at SPIEL ’19 in Essen, Germany, Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage will challenge players to make decisions that shape history, while expanding the influence of their vampire clans.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage is a 2-4 player Legacy-styled board game that takes 20-40 minutes to play. During the game, players build a bloodline from characters who complete history-based missions and challenges via Vampiric Battlegrounds. Gameplay includes the use of Intrigue cards, which change the rules of the game in thematic ways to fit characters and clans. Vampire clans grow in strength as they build a chronicle spanning 700 years of blood-soaked history. Humans can also be “embraced” and turned into fellow vampires, with new abilities and a new name. These newly embraced vampires are represented in-game by flipping their human card to the Vampire side, and returning them to their sleeve. To allow for this innovative gameplay, Vampire: The Masquerade – Heritage will come with more than 60 pre-sleeved character cards. To reach the conclusion of the 700-year timeline, players will scramble to unravel ancient mysteries and make the most of their allies and influence gathered throughout the campaign.

A rally is made up of several timed stages called “specials” that severely test a driver’s nerves. To be a successful rally driver, you need to love risk, be able to keep your head straight when going through tricky areas, and have the ability to adapt when unexpected weather complicates matters. Your co-driver’s notes are often critical.

In V-Rally 4’s rally mode, the highly varied environments of the specials require you to draw on all your driving skills. Speed through the breathtaking environments of Malaysia, Japan, Siberia, Kenya, Sequoia Park and Monument Valley! Pay attention to your co-driver’s notes displayed on the screen so you won’t be surprised by a tight bend!

Entire road networks have been created for the rally environments, with an impressive level of detail. In addition to the pre-defined specials, V-Rally 4 provides an even more unpredictable challenge through the specials generator. Just like rally organizers, the specials generator randomly opens and closes road intersections, which means there are hundreds of possible routes through each environment. Your route is not a collection of pre-defined roads and bends: it uses parts of the road network, and each special is different, with unique characteristics. That makes it rather difficult to learn the bends by heart. Once at the starting line, you’ll need to demonstrate courage and concentration!

Each discipline provides a unique driving experience so that V-Rally 4 racing fans can test their skills and learn new driving techniques. Your versatility will also come in handy in career mode, which takes drivers around the world.

Nickelodeon Unveils Virtual and AR Series for Television

BURBANK, Calif.—Aug. 2, 2018Nickelodeon today announced the development of Meet the Voxels (working title), an original TV, virtual reality and augmented reality series conceived by Chris Young, Senior Vice President of Nickelodeon’s Entertainment Lab. The animated sitcom, created in a game engine, marks a first for Nickelodeon in its use of cutting-edge virtual cinema technology, including real-time full body and facial performance capture, bringing an innovative approach to immersive storytelling. Nickelodeon’s Entertainment Lab is the network’s division established to spearhead long-range research and development around emerging platforms and new technology. Meet the Voxels is being developed to air across Nickelodeon’s channels globally.

Meet the Voxels takes kids behind the scenes of a video game world and follows a family of video-game characters, the Voxels, on their adventures on-and-off-duty. The family members (all names working titles) are:  Hunter, the 13-year-old star of a laser-tag video game; Maude, a 16-year-old girl fighting to pop as many bubbles as she cantheir younger brother Cody who has not found his video game calling yet; Mom, a popular street fighter in her game; and Dad, a 90’s-era classic console game character who quit the business years ago.

The pilot for Meet the Voxels will be written by Jana Petrosini (Henry Danger, Kid Danger, Game Shakers) and Sean Gill (Henry Danger, Kid Danger, Game Shakers). 

Said Young, “Our vision is to take the real-time technology we’ve been exploring in the Lab and marry it with a creative concept that connects with kids and their passion for video games. We designed this next-gen animation workflow and filled it with characters who can exist naturally across multiple platforms from day one.”  

Meet the Voxels represents a significant expansion of both the Entertainment Lab’s capabilities and Young’s work. To date, the Lab has been responsible for the creation and implementation of SlimeZone and The Loud House 360, and now Meet the Voxels represents an evolution of content development and creation using real-time animation technology. 

“Chris is helping lead Nickelodeon animation toward a transformation into a wholly new content creation studio,” said Chris Viscardi, Senior Vice President, Animation. “Meet the Voxels marks a significant development in turning that content dream into a production reality.”

Over the past year, Young has developed new entertainment experiences for kids including: SlimeZone, a multi-player social VR experience that allows kids and families the opportunity to interact in a Nickelodeon-designed virtual world; The Loud House 360, an original video where viewers can explore the madness of the Loud family household from all angles; and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles VR Interview Experience,  a virtual reality experience that immerses users in the Turtles’ iconic New York City world and allows them to have a conversation with Mikey or Donnie, voiced on the scene by the actors who play the roles. The Turtles experience debuted at San Diego Comic Con 2018. 

Young will help to guide further development of a larger slate of animated projects to be announced shortly.

Prior to overseeing Nickelodeon’s Entertainment Lab, Young previously served as Executive Creative Director, Nickelodeon Animation Lab, where he focused on exploring and engineering alternative animation pipelines. Prior to that role, he held the title of Producer at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank. Young began his entertainment industry career at age 15 when he starred as boy genius Bryce Lynch on the cult TV series Max Headroom. Before becoming a producer and director, Young starred in the feature films The Great OutdoorsBook of Love and PCU.  He produced Disney Channel’s animated movie The Proud Family, developed, produced and starred in the NBC movie Killing Mr. Griffin and served as executive producer and director on 26 half-hour episodes of Discovery Channel’s The Adventures of A.R.K. Young also founded and served as Chief Creative Officer of Animobile, a forerunner in the mobile gaming space, where he designed and oversaw the production of over two dozen original mobile games for multiple handheld devices.

Early hardback copies of the V5 corebook are available now for purchase from GenCon 2018 at the White Wolf booth (#509) and Modiphius booth (#2563).

Starting this winter, translated editions of V5 will become available in French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, with more languages to be announced.
