Arkham City Sells Over 4.6 Million Worldwide

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that their new Batman: Arkham City has topped over 4.6 million units sold in its first week at retail. These figures are for worldwide sales, not just in North America! This is not counting the Windows PC version of the game, which is due out next month.

“Batman: Arkham City is one of the best action adventure games, proven by the tremendous reviews, and it further establishes the Batman brand as a marquee franchise for our growing business,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Rocksteady Studios went above and beyond in delivering an incredible game and the support of the entire team at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment drove the excellent campaign a game like this deserves.”

Love of Middle-Earth Trailer for War in the North

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a new trailer for their upcoming  featuring a plethora of movie stars, including Sean Astin and Dominic Monahan from the film trilogy, and their experience with the world created by Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is due out on November 1, 2011.

ThinkGeek Announces IRIS 9000 Siri Voice Control Module

ThinkGeek has revealed a very cool product sure to light the fires that yearn within every geek’s heart: the Iris 9000 Siri Voice Control Module. This unit replicates the bezel and flashing red light of the famed HAL 9000 AI from the classic 2001: A Space Odyssey, but with much less malicious intent. The IRIS 9000 allows you to control Siri (on your iPhone 4S) from across the room using a sensitive, long-distance microphone. The system also includes a built-in speaker allowing you to use the system as a speakerphone setup. IRIS 900 retails for $59.99 and will be out sometime next year.

The Secret World Touts 500k Beta Registrations

Funcom and Electronic Arts have announced that there have been over 500,000 registrants for the beta test of the upcoming Lovecraftian MMO, The Secret World. If you are interested in registering, checkout the game’s official website for more information.

“We are thrilled to see the amount of interest ‘The Secret World’ is generating among gamers and the press, and exceeding half a million beta registrations six months before release is definitely something we are proud of,” says Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas. “The gamer interest in ‘The Secret World’ and the community size for the game is even greater than we experienced with ‘Age of Conan’ at the same stage of development.  We expect the community size to keep on expanding at an ever faster pace in the coming months as we approach Open Beta and launch.”

The Secret World is due out next year on the Windows PC platform.

Electronic Arts has released a new trailer for the upcoming stealth-action puzzle game, Warp, which is due out this Winter on the Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Windows PC platforms.

Warner Bros. Publishing Xbox 360 Version of The Witcher 2

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that they have been picked up as the North American publisher of CD Projekt RED’s upcoming Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (see our PC version review).

“We have added significant enhancements to the Xbox 360 version of ‘The Witcher 2,’ going far beyond simply editing the code to run on a new platform. Thanks to one of the world’s newest game engines, the RED Engine, it will be one of the best-looking games ever released on Xbox 360,” said Adam Kiciński, President, CD Projekt RED.

The Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 will be released in the first quarter of 2012.
