It looks like Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has led a buyout of the company from its previous controlling shareholder, Vivendi. Activision Blizzard purchased 439 million shares from Vivendi for $5.83 billion while Kotick’s investment group purchased 172 million shares worth $2.34 billion. This investment group includes Davis Advisors, Leonard Green & Partners, Tencent, and Brian Kelly as its co-chair (alongside Kotick). After this transaction is completed, Vivendi will still own about 12% of the company.
“This transaction uniquely benefits the public shareholders,” Kotick said in an interview. “The commitment that we have from Vivendi to continue as a shareholder shows their enthusiasm for the business. My investment shows I’m committed and enthusiastic about the prospects of the business.”
While at the San Diego Comic-Con, we got the chance to checkout FOX’s Predator 3D booth setup to promote their upcoming 3D Blu-ray of the Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi/action-fest, Predator. The booth was located in the convention center and was walled off by large partitions clad in faux jungle foliage. Inside the booth, FOX had hired a couple actors to play as the titular hunter in full, cosplay-grade costumes. They really did an excellent job considering the whole booth was promoting a Blu-ray release. Moreso, FOX had a very cool gimmick inside the booth where attendees could get their heads scanned into a computer and that scan would be used to make them a small, 3D-printed statue of the Predator holding their severed heads! Talk about good promotional items.
As far as the actual movie in 3D goes – thankfully, it wasn’t all just hype. Predator 3D is a very good 3D flick utilizing passive 3D technology which will not affect your eyes like active shutter systems. The effect was very crisp and clean, without any noticeable darkening of the image. For watching it for only a few minutes, I know I will be picking up a copy of the movie when it gets released later this year.

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Razer™, the world leader in high-performance gaming hardware, software and systems, announced today the first update to Razer Comms, its all-in-one communications solution for gamers, based on a public user poll.
Following a large crowdsourcing initiative that drew feedback from more than 10,000 users, Razer is introducing a new file transfer feature for Comms’ burgeoning user base. At the same time, the company expanded the program’s infrastructure with high-speed servers in eight different locations across the globe to reduce latency and improved the overall audio quality for the software, upgrading noise suppression, echo cancellation and voice volume normalization.
“We started working on Razer Comms in 2011 as a 10 percent side project of sorts, mostly during lunch breaks, for our own personal gaming use,” said Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. “Razer Comms now has a dedicated team of experienced software engineers at its helm. The number of patches and feature additions that we’ve implemented according to gamer feedback speak to this software’s relevance. It is definitely here to stay… and evolve.”
With more than 250,000 downloads, Razer Comms has quickly become a choice VoIP software for gamers thanks to its crystal-clear voice audio and its gaming-optimized, non-intrusive overlay.
Razer’s software engineers have worked at a breakneck pace, receiving more than 20,000 feedback tickets in four months for Comms and delivering more than 60 requested features and functionalities across six patches.

Hamburg – July 25, 2013 – ROCCAT Studios, the Hamburg-based manufacturer of competition gaming peripherals, today announces immediate availability of the optical version of its award-winning Kone Pure gaming mouse. This release ensures that there is now a Kone for both breeds of gamer: those preferring the maxed out DPI of a laser mouse, and those yearning for the unique feel of an optical sensor gliding over their mousepad.
The Kone Pure Optical combines the design innovations and ergonomic shape of original Kone Pure – 91% the size of the Kone – with an ultra-accurate, cutting-edge Pro-Optic (R3) optical sensor. Equipped with high-quality Omron® switches, ROCCAT innovations such as Easy-Shift[+]™, Easy-Aim, and ROCCAT Talk™, and a top-end sensor with DPI adjustable up to true 4,000 DPI, the Kone Pure Optical is designed for discerning gamers who want the best from their peripherals.
ROCCAT founder and CEO René Korte comments: “The new sensor featured in the Kone Pure Optical is the successor to the sensor featured in the famous Savu mouse. The Savu drew praise from gamers and reviewers alike, who complimented the mouse for its accurate and reliable tracking. Building on this success, the Kone Pure Optical has a new and more powerful MCU, which features more memory, and two new native DPI steps.”
By popular demand, the optical mouse arms gamers with a powerful weapon in their fight for point streaks, lanes and bases. A hat tip to the community feedback that shapes the success story of the Kone series, the Kone Pure Optical celebrates the five year anniversary since the Kone was born.
