G&G CM18 Mod1 Airsoft Gun Review (Airsoft)

gg_cm18_mod1_dst

The G&G CM18 Mod1 is one of the company’s “Combat Machine”, intermediate level airsoft rifles. This airsoft gun is made mostly of ABS plastic – including the rail system, upper & lower receivers, stock, and mostly everything else save for the charging handle, screws, flip up sights, stock tube, and bolt release. While it is true that being plastic makes a gun less durable than metal over the course of time or in receiving impacts, it also means that the CM18 Mod1 is a VERY light airsoft carbine to field. Being light weight has its own benefits as well. The trademarks on this airsoft gun are cool to look at but simply painted on as opposed to more advanced airsoft guns which usually have some stamped metal trades. Again, this is their Combat Machine line of intermediate airsoft guns, so it’s to be expected.

Internally, G&G comes through with a metal version 2 gearbox which is fully upgradeable but very nice right out of the box. G&G has put a lot of quality into the gearbox of this airsoft gun and it shows. The gun visited our chronograph and we were happy with it at about 345 FPS, which is great for indoor play. We were able to get a rate of fire of about 14 RPS while using a 9.6V NiMh battery – again, decent for indoor play. We experienced no hams or misfires while playing. In fact, the magazine was really cool in that it fed every single BB it had in it – but more on that later. Using the fire selector switch is smooth which crisp detents for each fire select position – something that I like to see in all my airsoft guns for both comfort and functional reasons. If your selector switch is really squishy, you might not be able to effectively engage a particular fire mode or get caught in-between positions with the heat is on. With as crisp as these detents are, it is very easy to move from one to another and “feel” when they are reached.

The included 120 round, mid-cap magazine has a cool, Magpul EMAG style look while also featuring an extending follower which will eventually be used in the company’s upcoming line of MARS gearbox airsoft guns. Company reps tell me they should have some more on these new airsoft guns at the SHOT Show in January. Apparently, the extended follower will stop the gearbox when the magazine is dry. Right now, this extended follower pushes every last BB out of the magazine. This is a real bonus as it means that you get to fire EVERY BB from it – as opposed to many midcaps which leave a couple in the mag due to poor spring tension or length.

My biggest issue with the CM18 Mod1 is the matter of its flip up sights. From an aesthetic level, they are pretty large with strange, flared sides which, along with their gaudy gold/tan coloring, resemble something that would be found at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Also, engaging the sights is a chore, especially when you are wearing thicker gloves, as it requires you to press in a small piece of metal to unlock the sights. The problem is that this piece of metal is so small and close to a larger piece of metal (the base of the sight) that it can be hard to reach when needed. My advice is to either use these iron sights in a deployed position all the time or remove them altogether and use another optic or sighting solution.

cm18-000

Overall, the G&G CM18 Mod1 airsoft gun is a fine choice for anyone looking to start out in the sport of airsoft or simply offset their sniper, shotgun, or support gunner loadout with a carbine style airsoft gun. It would also excel in indoor, CQB arenas like TacCity in Fullerton, CA over outdoor fields where you could be outclassed by more advanced, higher performing airsoft guns.

Two New MGS V: Ground Zeroes Gameplay Trailers

MGs

December 10, 2013 — Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. today released two new gameplay videos for METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES, the first installment of the METAL GEAR SOLID V Experience.

In response to popular demand for more details regarding how day and night plays a role in stealth gameplay, Kojima Productions has created a new METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES trailer that exhibits how gameplay can deviate drastically, depending on time of day, weather and other climatic conditions.

In the previous “Day Mission” gameplay video, Big Boss embarked on a “Side Ops” mission to locate a high-value target and recover hidden intelligence.  However, the daylight served as a disadvantage, and the mission ended in all-out battle and a blazing car chase. In the new “Night Mission” gameplay video, Big Boss tackles a side objective within the main “Ground Zeroes” mission using hardcore stealth, under the cloak of night, to infiltrate and extract a POW from the clandestine blacksite, “Camp Omega.”

Kojima Productions has also announced the “Jamais Vu” exclusive mission for Xbox fans. As a throwback to the 1988 Kojima-helmed, cult favorite game, “SNATCHER,” the menacing bioroid “Snatchers” are dropped into Camp Omega to kill and steal identities of everything they come in contact with. But to kill off old enemies, players need a new hero- enter Raiden, the superhuman ninja cyborg from previous METAL GEAR titles, including most recently METAL GEAR RISING REVENGANCE. This time, Raiden dispenses with his HF Blade in favor of heavy weaponry to annihilate the “Snatcher” threat.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES is a prologue and the first release in the METAL GEAR SOLID V Experience. METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN, which will be released after, completes the fifth chapter in the METAL GEAR SOLID franchise. Anchored in a deep story mode involving tactical espionage and double crossing, METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES also expands into numerous “Side Ops” missions that branch off the story campaign and allows players to tackle new objectives independent of the main game.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES will begin hitting retail stores beginning March 18, 2014 for the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. The game will be available in retail stores nationwide on current generation systems for the MSRP of $29.99 or via download for $19.99. For Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PlayStation 4 systems, the game will be available for the MSRP of $39.99 for the retail version or via download for $29.99.

Knott’s Merry Farm 2013 Review

knotts-merry-farm-014 copy

We were lucky to attend Knott’s Berry Farm’s recent media/blogger day to celebrate their on-going “Merry Farm” festivities. Our cold, rainy day started off by parking and then picking up our media packet from Knott’s PR and Social Media representatives, and we then entered the holly-clad gates. Walking down the streets of the park’s “Ghost Town” themed area, it looked anything but. The area teemed with holiday cheer and decor, featuring various vendors and dining locations. A particularly cool setup was in front of the hotel where they were making maple popsicles. This consisted of pouring molten maple syrup onto a bed of ice and then laying in a popsicle stick as it cooled. The result was not only tasty but, also, a great conversation piece.

We had lunch over at the Ghost Town Grill and were very pleased with our food. One of our party had the restaurant’s rib eye steak and couldn’t praise it enough. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy – it was great. I have dined at this establishment during the park’s annual “Halloween Haunt” event, and the quality of the food has improved a lot since then (which wasn’t long ago). I am unsure as to the reason behind this, but my compliments to the chef. The restaurant was also nice enough to help us charge our phones while we ate – which is something that a lot of theme parks won’t touch with a 33 and 1/2 foot pole.

“It’s Christmas, Snoopy!” is the park’s current holiday ice show, and is a fun time demonstrating the great skills of the skaters found therein. The show features both costumed Peanuts characters as well as skaters, but don’t expect a narrative to guide you through. The show is made up of various skating routines interspersed with clips from either Peanuts TV specials or live action, costumed Peanuts characters exchanging random dialog about Christmas. One moment that I was expecting to hear some controversy over was when the costumed character of Linus spoke his monologue about the meaning of Christmas – as heard in the holiday classic, “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. With so many places trying to be neutral and PC about the various holidays found this time of year, I was sure to hear some grumbles. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised by the reception it received. It was actually sort of refreshing for a park to actually focus on Christmas. I recently attended Disneyland’s festivities and they go for a very neutral approach to Christmas instead – “Happy Holidays!” instead of “Merry Christmas”, etc. But, I digress.

We walked over to Santa’s Cabin, which is setup in the park’s Wilderness Dance Hall, and got our pictures taken with Santa Clause (yes, kids, he DOES exist!). Also in the cabin is a cacophony of sweets and treats to delight. There is a sundae bar, coffee bar, wine and beer booth, and numerous others. My personal favorite was the booth serving sliced green apples mixed with real caramel. Note to those of you who partake of this amazing treat: It is REAL caramel. This means that it turns hard when cooled. So, don’t expect it to remain gooey when you walk outside in the blustery cold weather. The cabin was also serving Cinnabon cinnamon rolls with their delicious frosting, but I didn’t get the chance to try them as I was stuffing my face with caramel apple slices.

knotts-merry-farm-308 copy

We walked around some more, enjoying the ambiance, and finally got over to the Calico Stage to see a reading of Twas the Night Before Christmas, followed by the park’s tree lighting show and ceremony. Both were just more of the continued Christmas fun we experienced throughout the day. During the show, a group of elves struggle to ready the last shipment of toys for Santa’s yearly flight and we even got a cool appearance by snoopy who pops out of a large, over-sized present. On our way out, Knott’s Berry Farm was kind enough to give us a few samples of their new “Berry Market” line of jams and preserves. I can’t say enough good things about this product line. It is great to see the park doing what made it famous in the first place.

Overall, Knott’s Merry Farm is the perfect place to take your significant other or family to get a nice dose of down home Christmas cheer. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to go back. Let’s just hope this Winter weather keeps up so that we can bundle up and really get into the spirit. We would like to thank Jason Soyster, Leidy Arevalo, and Josh Mikkelsen of Knott’s PR and Social Media department for making our visit possible.
