Turtle Rock Ceases EVOLVE Support

In this post on the official Turtle Rock forums, the developer has announced it is ceasing its support of EVOLVE.

Here’s the letter:

Seems like the greater things you aspire to, the more time it takes. We had huge aspirations for Evolve, and while we got to spend five and a half awesome years on planet Shear with a ragtag group of Planet Tamers and fearsome Monsters, it still doesn’t feel like enough – we were hungry for more but unfortunately today is the last day that Turtle Rock Studios can work on Evolve.

It’s always hard to leave one of our games behind. Left4Dead was no different and now it’s Evolve’s turn. There will always be a special place in our hearts for our past projects. No matter what happens with Evolve in the future, we’ll know it was born in this studio and developed by this team alongside this beautiful community.

This is the life of AAA game developers who aren’t self-funded and don’t own their own IP. We don’t get to make the call. We all know that going in but we still sign the dotted line because we love what we do. We are happy to have gotten the opportunity to do something risky, something new and innovative. We created a brand new Sci-Fi world. We got to go to planet Shear and interact with alien flora and fauna. We got to hunt down, trap and kill giant monsters together. We got to BE the monster. What an awesome experience.

The last five and a half years represents so much. We are so proud of Evolve, the Turtle Rock team and the Evolve community. Getting on the forums, Reddit, Facebook and Twitch and talking directly to you has been a highlight of many of our careers. On no other project have we ever been able to interact so directly. The Evolve community is the best we could have hoped for and we hope you come with us and become a part of the Turtle Rock community.

We want to thank all the people at THQ who initially believed in us when we were that tiny studio in a little converted warehouse with a dream of making something truly different. Thanks to 2K for picking up the mantle out of THQ’s bankruptcy and making Evolve one of the most anticipated games of 2015. Additional big thanks to 2K for reaching outside their comfort zone and funding Evolve: Stage 2 by taking a AAA game free to play, which was a first for all of us.

Most of all, we want to thank you, our players, for supporting Evolve and Evolve: Stage 2, many of you from the very beginning. You embraced our vision and fell in love with it just as we did. We have learned so much from you. Thank you all for your feedback, your support and your dedication.

We love this community and don’t want to say goodbye via a letter on a website, so we’ll be hosting one final Evolve-themed Livestream on Thursday, October 27 at twitch.tv/evolvegame starting at 12 PM Pacific Time. We’ll be there talking about our experience on the project and answering as many of your questions as we can.

There’s a lot that we really wish we could have done, especially taking Stage 2 to consoles, but it looks like that’s just not meant to be.

Those of you who’ve followed Turtle Rock Studios, this is not goodbye. We have lots of stuff in the works that we hope you’ll enjoy but we are departing on the Laurie-Anne for the last time and must bid a farewell to the planet Shear.
We’ll see you all again, another time on another world….

So long, Shear. It’s been an adventure.

Ghost Town Mine Ride & Shootin’ Gallery Launch Details

LOS ANGELES, October 19, 2016 — Spectral Illusions, makers of VR experiences Cyberphobia, The Séance, and Astral Domine announce the release of Ghost Town Mine Ride & Shootin’ Gallery, a new fully interactive Virtual Reality Horror Experience for the HTC Vive on October 28, 2016.

Explore an abandoned tourist attraction, test your shot at the Shootin’ Gallery and board the mine cart ride for a descent into hell. A thrilling new Horror Experience for the HTC Vive. Can you make it out alive? Ghost Town Mine ride is approximately a 25 minute, fully immersive experience. Ghost Town Mine Ride was developed using the Unreal 4 engine and requires an HTC Vive headset and controllers to play.

Kerry McCarn-Ostir, Executive Producer, says, “Abandoned theme parks and roadside attractions have such an interesting look. It’s a place that embodied joy and fun, but, once they’ve sunk into disrepair, the creepiness oozes out. It’s an environment that can evoke a huge emotional response.”

“This is the first part of a larger story we have planned for future releases,” says Director/Developer Rob Ostir. “I’m pretty much obsessed with dark rides and haunted places in general and have always wanted to create a haunted mine themed experience. Virtual Reality is the perfect medium for that.”

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – October 21, 2016 – DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) studio, today announced the highly anticipated worldwide launch of Battlefield 1 in stores on Xbox One, PlayStation®4 and Origin™ on PC. Battlefield 1 is already being heralded by critics worldwide, winning over 45 awards including Best Action Game at E3 from the Official Game Critics Awards and also the Consumer Award from the Official Gamescom Awards. In addition to this, the game is being praised for its all-out war multiplayer experience and impressive re-imagination of the Great War through its single player War Stories. IGN applauded Battlefield 1 for its “exhilarating multiplayer” and Digital Spy called it “the best Battlefield we’ve had in years.”

In Battlefield 1, experience the dawn of all-out war on an unmatched epic scale, full of a variety of new gameplay opportunities. DICE set out to build the most immersive and dynamic Battlefield game ever, continuing to improve their multiplayer sandbox experience through ever-changing environments with intuitive destruction and dynamic weather in up to 64-player battles. In Operations, a brand new multiplayer mode, players can fully immerse themselves in a series of interconnected battles, holding the front line across multiple maps. And if the battle is looking lost, call in a Behemoth, the largest fully player-controlled vehicles ever seen in Battlefield or deploy as one of three destructive forces of the Elite Class. In the unique single player campaign, players can immerse themselves in War Stories, played from the perspectives of different protagonists across the globe from the deserts of the Middle East to the skies of the Western Front.

“Battlefield 1 was a passion project for us at DICE and after years of working with the World War 1 era, we realized what a perfect fit it was for the Battlefield all-out-war style of play,” said Aleksander Grøndal, Senior Producer, DICE. “This was truly a fascinating time as it gave birth to modern warfare with many weapons, vehicles and gadgets being first introduced into the world and we wanted to share those things through a modern lens for all players to experience.”

When Battlefield 1 was first revealed in May 2016, it was lauded by fans and media alike for the bold decision of setting, opening up the possibilities for brand new gameplay opportunities. Since then, the Battlefield 1 reveal trailer became the most-liked trailer on YouTube this year across any medium, with over 2 million likes, and sparked a momentum of anticipation for the game leading up to today’s launch.
