June 30, 2014, Antwerp, Belgium – GRIN today revealed that Woolfe: The Redhood Diaries, its non-sugarcoated fairy tale platformer, will be showcased at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany from 13-17 August 2014.

GRIN will have a special playable build of Woolfe: The Redhood Diaries in the consumer area.

Woolfe: The Redhood Diaries is a unique interpretation of the French fairy tale, depicting a fearless Little Red Riding Hood as she embarks on a vendetta across a rich fantasy setting – including dangerous smoke-spewing factories, charming medieval villages and woodland landscapes twisted by evil forces.

Trailer:

To celebrate the first public playtest of the early build of Woolfe: The Redhood Diaries, GRIN will be running a special ‘high score challenge’, with the top scorers having a chance of winning limited edition Woolfe Gamescom prizes. Cosplayers are also encouraged to turn up as Red Riding Hood and have their picture taken at the GRIN photo booth, with the best being shared through the Woolfe: The Redhood Diaries community channels.

GRIN founder and CEO Wim Wouters said:
“We’re excited that Gamescom will be the first time that the public will be able to play Woolfe: The Redhood Diaries. Whilst the single level demo is still very much pre-beta it should give Gamescom attendees a taste of what awaits them when Woolfe is released next year – we can’t wait to hear what the public thinks of our dark fairy tale!”

Woolfe: The Redhood Diaries is part of Microsoft’s ID@Xbox publishing program, was nominated for a Selected Projects award during Game Connection America 2014, and was fast-tracked through Steam Greenlight. Woolfe: The Redhood Diaries is scheduled for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC during Q1 2015.

Raven’s Cry Screenshots and Karaoke Video

2014-06-27_RC_Shots_Press04

Karlsruhe, June 27, 2014 – We have some brand-new screenshots for you today from the upcoming adventure RPG Raven’s Cry, as well as a raunchy pirate drinking song.

As you might imagine, manners in a pirate tavern are about as rough as the weather on the high seas. And after a successful raid, it’s no wonder that the men love nothing more than to celebrate with reckless abandon, squandering their hard-won earnings on rum, wenches, and gambling like there’s no tomorrow. And for some, there isn’t.

Our new Raven’s Cry karaoke video features these depraved sots singing their very own version of “Drunken Sailor”, known in those quarters as “Hangin’ Willie” (and for adult piratesonly!)

Along with last year’s “Sail with the Devil” video, the Raven’s Cry bonus will feature several more songs to sing along with – or whatever passes for singing.

Now you can celebrate too, because on October 14, 2014, Christopher Raven and his crew will be hoisting the black flag and arriving in ports the world over. Woe to those who stand in the way of Raven and his crew by not sharing this video! Oh, woe to them, Willie.

Panzer Corps Review (PC)

panzer-corps1

The folks behind Panzer Corps had their work cut out for them. Their goal: To recreate the intense strategy gameplay found in SSI’s 1994 hit, Panzer General. The game is available in both the original Panzer Corps and a multitude of DLC packs and expansions. Some expansions, like Allied Corps, add not only new campaigns to the game but also new units for you to command.

Panzer Corps’ gameplay does a great job of mimicking Panzer General’s. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and, in this case, that definitely seems to be the case. It is clear the developers at The Lordz Game Studios had a lot of love and respect for Panzer General. The game starts off with a minimal mission briefing / objective list then (usually) lets players place their units on various hex spaces on the map. After that, the player takes turns with the AI opponent moving their units – attacking and defending, etc. If you are new to the turn-based wargame genre, you can select to turn of the fog-of-war option as well as the need to resupply your units as they expend fuel and ammunition.

For multiplayer gamers out there – you will be pleased to know that this game mode does exist in Panzer Corps – albeit by way of “Play By Email” and Hotseat game types. Both multiplayer modes work well – and I can’t say anything negative about them as they are tried and true methods of strategy wargaming that have been around for a long time. You can also play single missions against AI units or through the various campaign modes that the game has to offer.

Matrix Games, the publisher of Panzer Corps, was good enough to send us over review samples of the entire Panzer Corps collection – which includes both the African and European theaters of battle. If you purchase the basic Panzer Corps experience on Steam, it will run you $19.99 – but, if you purchase the Panzer Corps Collection on Steam, it will cost $79.99. While that is definitely not cheap, you are getting a virtual ton of content for it – including the Allied Corps expansion which allows you to play as the allies. Also in the big collection is the Afrika Korps expansion which takes players to Northern Africa. Panzer Corps was first released back in 2010, so at this point if you are interested in taking the plunge, I highly suggest just buying the whole collection.

Panzer Corps’ biggest weakness is its UI – which is not very self explanatory and will take some getting used to. In some ways, I hoped they would take the gameplay of past games and merge it with more modern design choices – making it easier for young gamers to pick up. But, it is functional and, once you learn it, you won’t have trouble navigating the various buttons and icons. The basic flow of battle is easy to understand – you move a unit, then attack an enemy within its range. Of course, some units will be more successful than others in fighting certain types of enemy units, so the game has a built in battle odds calculator that you can reference prior to firing a shot. It is not 100% accurate but it gives you a general idea of how your units will fare.

Also, if you are a fan of history, World War II, or battle strategy in general you will have a lot of fun trying to take various strategies in the historic battles found in the game’s huge campaign.

Overall, Panzer Corps and its large collection of DLC packs and expansions is a must-buy for turn-based wargame fans and those wanting to flex their strategy muscles.

Star Conflict Invasion Mode Update and Trailer

star-conflict11

JUNE 27, 2014 — StarGem Inc. and Gaijin Entertainment’s epic free-to-play MMO action game, Star Conflict, gets an exciting update with the new “Invasion Mode”, which is in Closed Beta until the end of summer. In order to access this new mode, Star Conflict players will need to earn one of the following achievements: Strikeforce Prometheus or Universe Conqueror.

Invasion mode has an underlying story in which an alien race disappeared into another dimension of space and time, now they have found a way back but this time they are heading up an invasion. Star Conflict players will be able to team up in parties of four to explore the new ‘Open Space’ area and combine forces as they take on new quests and engage in PvP and PvE battles. These new activities provide new loot, which can also be used to craft unique armament options and protection for their spaceships.

“The inclusion of Invasion Mode into the virtual world of Star Conflict provides a unique and unpredictable game dynamic that introduces more variables to the player’s space combat experience. Not only do players have to worry about PVP attacks in the free to explore environment but alien ships can suddenly appear close to player’s own ship without warning, forcing them to make the lightning quick decision to flee or fight” Said Stanislaw Scorn, Director, Star Gem Inc.

Skillful Star Conflict Players can access the new invasion mode if they have already acquired the Universe Conqueror or Strikeforce Prometheus achievements. Those players who have just joined the game have a full summer to gain the 1000 points required in order to get the Universe Conqueror achievement. Alternatively players looking for quick access can also obtain the Strikeforce Prometheus achievement by purchasing 6000 Galactic Standards in separately or in different packs.

Obtaining the Strikeforce Prometheus achievement will be much easier during this weekend. In honor of the “Invasion Mode” launch, Star Conflict packs and in-game currency will be discounted up to 75% via its online shop (http://star-conflict.com/en/store/) and Steam during the weekend.
