Civilization VI: Rise and Fall Expansion Announcement Trailer

New York, NY – November 28, 2017– 2K and Firaxis Games announced today that Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI: Rise and Fall, the expansion pack for the critically acclaimed and award-winning strategy title, will be available for Windows PC on February 8, 2018.

Civilization VI: Rise and Fall brings new choices, strategies, and challenges for players as they guide a civilization through the ages. The expansion introduces new Great Ages, a new city loyalty system, and Governors while expanding existing Diplomacy and Government systems; and adds nine new leaders and eight new civilizations, a variety of new units, districts, wonders, buildings, and more. Players can now lead their empire into a Golden Age of prosperity or emerge triumphantly from a Dark Age into a memorable Heroic Age.

“Sid Meier’s Civilization is 2K’s longest running franchise and we’re thrilled to reveal this exciting and dynamic expansion for fans to experience Civilization VI in all new ways,” said Matt Gorman, VP of Marketing at 2K. “The Civilization VI: Rise and Fall expansion comes after a year of content and updates to Civilization VI, and marks the perfect time for both veterans and newcomers to take one more turn at building their empire.”

“With the new Great Ages system in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Rise and Fall, players can experience the ebb and flow of building empires amidst the challenges of history, either to lasting greatness or the dust of antiquity,” added Anton Strenger, Lead Designer at Firaxis Games. “With this expansion’s new features, players will be both challenged and rewarded in ways never seen before in the 26 years of the Civilization franchise.”

Key features for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Rise and Fall include:

  • GREAT AGES: As your civilization ebbs and flows, and you reach milestone Historic Moments, you will experience Dark Ages or Golden Ages, each providing specific challenges or bonuses based on your actions in-game. Rise triumphantly from a Dark Age, and your next Golden Age will be even stronger – a Heroic Age.
  • LOYALTY: Cities now have individual Loyalty to your leadership – let it fall too low, and face the consequences of low yields, revolts, and the potential to lose your city to another civilization, or its own independence. But one civilization’s loss can be your gain as you inspire Loyalty among cities throughout the map and further expand your borders.
  • GOVERNORS: Recruit, appoint, and upgrade powerful characters with unique specialization bonuses and promotion trees to customize your cities, and reinforce Loyalty.
  • ENHANCED ALLIANCES: An enhanced alliances system allows players to form different types of alliances and build bonuses over time.
  • EMERGENCIES:  When a civilization grows too powerful, other civilizations can join a pact against the threatening civilization and earn rewards, or penalties, when the Emergency ends.
  • TIMELINE: Review your civilization’s history at any time with the new Timeline feature, a visual journey through the Historic Moments that you encountered on your path to victory.
  • NEW LEADERS AND CIVS:  Nine leaders and eight new civilizations are introduced. Each brings unique bonuses and gameplay, as well as a total of eight unique units, two unique buildings, four unique improvements, and two unique districts.
  • NEW GLOBAL CONTENT: Eight new world wonders, seven natural wonders, four new units, two new tile improvements, two new districts, fourteen new buildings, and three new resources have been added.
  • IMPROVED GAMEPLAY SYSTEMS:  The Government system has been enhanced with new Policies and additional improvements have been made to existing systems.

Mister Rogers Documentary Acquired by Focus Features

NEW YORK, November 27, 2017 – Focus Features has acquired the worldwide rights to Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, the new documentary about the life and work of Mister Fred Rogers. From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom), the documentary is a Focus Features presentation of a Tremolo Production, in association with Impact Partners and Independent Lens/PBS.  It is set to be released on June 8, 2018.  Focus chairman Peter Kujawski made the announcement today.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? takes an intimate look at America’s favorite neighbor: Mister Fred Rogers.  A portrait of a man whom we all think we know, this documentary is an emotional and moving film that takes you beyond zip-up cardigans and the land of make-believe, and into the heart of a creative genius, who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination.

“Morgan once again avoids making a traditional biodoc and instead takes us behind the curtain to see how Fred Rogers navigated the cultural and social issues of the second half of the twentieth century with his own brand of forward-thinking, compassionate wisdom far beyond his time,” commented Focus chairman Peter Kujawski.  “Mister Rogers makes us all want to be better people, and we couldn’t be more proud to be a part of telling his story today.”

“The Fred Rogers I discovered making this film is at once comfortably familiar and completely surprising. I believe Mister Rogers is the kind of voice we need to hear right now,” said director Morgan Neville. “I am thrilled to work with Focus Features on taking this film out into the world, along with my collaborators at Impact Partners and Independent Lens.”

“This is Morgan’s fourth film with Independent Lens, following our Emmy Award-winning collaboration on Best of Enemies,” said Lois Vossen, Independent Lens Executive Producer. “His beautiful new film shows us just how cool Mister Rogers was and how relevant and vital his voice is right now.”

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? is produced by Morgan Neville, Caryn Capotosto and Nicholas Ma and is a production of Tremolo Productions in association with Impact Partners and Independent Lens / PBS.  The deal was negotiated by Endeavor Content and Judith Karfiol on behalf of the filmmakers.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 Review

LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 is the latest in LEGO’s utilization of its Marvel license. LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 brings together over 230 characters and villains from both the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the comics – going back so far as to pull in more obscure characters like Black Knight. Time travel is a central theme of LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2. The game begins with the player in control of the Guardians of the Galaxy as they help the Nova Corps repel an invasion by Kang the Conqueror on Xandar. This opening mission serves as a basic tutorial into the LEGO game mechanics as well as a setup of the game’s central plot. While most of the LEGO game puzzles are present in LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2, this LEGO title adds time as a necessary part of puzzle-solving and does so with the help of time manipulating characters like Doctor Strange. You may need to roll time back to a previous point where an object is at a previous location to tackle an obstacle, etc.

The version of LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 I played was on the PC platform, so it is worth mentioning that the basic mouse and keyboard we PC gamers are used to playing with don’t work all that well in LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2. Instead, I opted for a gamepad and things moved along much more smoothly. Your mileage may vary, of course! Aside from needing a gamepad, the PC version of the game looked beautiful and was fully compatible with UltraWide resolutions. The voice acting is terrific, and each of the actors are convincing as their characters – even those portraying the MCU characters we know and love from the films.

Once you get done with the missions that setup the game’s story, you get ushered into what the game refers to as “Chronopolis”, a hub-style sandbox world where you can take on various missions and just explore. Chronopolis is an awesome place to explore as there are many different sections pulled from various places in time. Something that usually plagues me in these LEGO titles is the repetitive nature of many puzzles found in the game. However, I didn’t notice this quite as much with LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 as the game tends to throw a lot of action at the player all at once. While this can sometimes make it difficult to see your objective, it is NEVER boring. In between your missions, you can hang out at the Avengers Mansion, and can make use of Gwenpool to unlock characters and other traits with cheat codes that can be purchased with LEGO studs. There are also some minor quests to accomplish around the mansion, but all the good stuff really occurs in Chronopolis.

Each of the Marvel characters has a special attack geared towards their powers or skills. For instance, Starlord can entice other characters to dance with him as he jams out listening to his Walkman. Now most are a bit more functional that that one, but it cracked me up all the same. There are also more flying characters this time around, and the flight game mechanic has been well-improved, allowing for more easy control of your airborne characters. The right stick controls altitude and the left stick controls horizontal direction.

Overall, LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 is an outstanding game which has plenty of lighthearted humor and action coupled with a devilishly gleeful number of Marvel characters to play around with. While the game can throw a lot of visual information towards the player all at once, it is eye-catching and interesting.

Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War Announcement Trailer

11/24/2017 – Slitherine and Games Workshop renew their relationship to offer a fresh approach to the Warhammer 40,000 universe – planetary 4X. Warhammer 40,000: Gladius incorporates the dark, gothic, far future science-fantasy setting in ways never tried before. A brand new, deep storyline has been created to combine elements of 4X gameplay with a combat-focused system. The evolution of technology, construction of infrastructures and exploration of an unknown world, goes hand in hand with the management of military resources, including heroes with special abilities and mighty war machines.

Warhammer 40,000: Gladius has been designed to give four totally different gameplay experiences, depending on which factions players choose. Space Marines, Astra Militarum (aka Imperial Guard), Orks and Necrons each have dramatically different characteristics, both in how they develop and expand and in the way they interact with allies and enemies. This gives the game virtually endless replay value and players the chance to play out the same experience in totally divergent ways.

In Warhammer 40,000: Gladius there is also a massive difference between playing solo or in multiplayer. The deep storyline was created from scratch to allow players to explore an entire world and lead the expansion of an empire from the ground up. The discovery of ancient artefacts and the custom-crafted quests will reveal the secrets of the planet and its mysterious history as the story progresses.

Don’t miss the exclusive first look at Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War on Slitherine’s official [Twitch channel], live on Friday December 1st at 7 pm GMT.

School Girl Zombie Hunter Review

School Girl Zombie Hunter is a tale of five school girls who are the only ones left in an all-girls school overrun by zombies.  One girl is self-assured and positive, she is your first character to control and starts with a pistol.  The second school girl is withdrawn and feels very unsure even though she is a bad ass with a machine gun. Each character has her own strengths and weaknesses. The after-mission grading system seemed sort of messed up at the moment, as I did better on a mission I barely completed than one I finished with bonus time to spare. So unless you are going for trophies I’m not sure I would care about anything except finishing the mission before its time runs out. That’s easier said than done on some missions, which can be fairly challenging.  It seems like the time limit was chosen randomly, as it is almost arbitrary. It’s as though they wanted the game to last a certain length of time so missions are usually 10 minutes long.

I enjoyed the zombies pretty well, I thought there was a decent enough variety as well as a couple other kinds of enemies that kept things interesting. I wasn’t just dispatching the same generic zombie over and over again.  The game dumps weapons on you every mission, all you have to do is pick them up and complete the mission in time – no completion no weapon.  I didn’t care for the auto-aim system, but I used weapons with it for my other teammates since it worked well enough for them.  I have always been a shoot them myself, no thanks auto-aim kinda guy.  I want the zombie head shots to be all me thank you, not some fickle aim system.

Another couple of sets of drops are dresses, wigs and… underwear.  I’ll get to the last one in a bit.  The dresses can work as a couple different ways, the first being like armor, the more beat up you get the more holes in it with peeks to the undies set underneath.  Now if you are excited about seeing under the school girl uniforms here is step one, get them shot up.  Apparently though zombies are just as attracted to school girl uniforms as you are because you can throw them off and they become zombie bait with the zombies piling up on top of them.  They have some kind of attraction but if you wanted to see the zombie hunting school girls in the fancy panties or keep your team from dying this can be a good way to accomplish either or both, I will try not to judge.

As you progress new objectives and some stranger zombies start to show up but your fighting is pretty much just kept to part of the school grounds.  As the zombies get better so do the weapons to a degree, there are a few times you have to think and come up with strategies on what is the best weapon choices to take on a certain zombie type.  You will also need to figure out what zombie killing combo might open up otherwise blocked off ways and find hidden treasures on each of the levels.  It’s always about watching the timer, keeping your team alive with healing or cloths zombie traps and finishing whatever the job is.

When you get further into the game you get an option to help keep your team alive by just throwing uniforms out anymore… and it gets kinda lewd.  The game makes fun of itself for it and makes a couple of not the most tactful jokes but when you are going there I guess they figure all is fair in zombie fighting and lewd game development.  So if you like to associate your school girls with fruits and vegetables you’ve found your game.

There is also a multiplayer mode so get your buddies on if they like what they see on your playing and team up against the zombie hordes.  If you don’t bring any friends you might just find yourself alone in a multiplayer match with tougher enemies.

When All Is Said And Stripped:

School Girl Zombie Hunter is an alright game with a nice selection of enemies and tasks to complete and a creative method to keep its characters alive.  Personally I would rather they had armor, thrown that off then maybe uniforms if it came to that but the developers were aiming for a crowd that liked their animated games a bit more, ahem, exposed.  If that is your thing the game has 50 levels of normal and 50 of hard, enjoy!
