(NASDAQ:EA) and BioWare today launched Legacy of the Sith – the latest expansion for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™, continuing the 10th anniversary for the beloved and popular story-driven MMORPG that has given players worldwide an opportunity to live out their very own Star Wars™ story. Legacy of the Sith is the latest major content expansion available to all subscribers in an ever-evolving gameplay experience which features brand new story campaigns, the ability for players to customize their characters at an intricate level, and an array of quality-of-life upgrades aimed at making the game more accessible than ever before. Star Wars: The Old Republic 10th Anniversary Celebration will run throughout 2022 and continually introduce new content, events, updates and more.

“For over 10 years, Bioware has done an incredible job continuing to tell amazing stories and build incredible worlds and characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic,” Douglas Reilly, Vice President, Lucasfilm Games. “We couldn’t be more excited to continue to evolve and expand this iconic Star Wars experience with the team.”

In celebration of the launch of Legacy of the Sith and 10 years of Star Wars storytelling through the game’s action-packed CG trailers, BioWare and Lucasfilm Games have collaborated on a new cinematic launch trailer setting the stage for the events of the expansion. The Legacy of the Sith launch trailer introduces a new Jedi Padawan, Sa’har Kateen, who must face off against the traitorous Darth Malgus and the events of her past in order to stop the rogue Sith Lord from taking his sinister plan into its next phase.

“At the heart of Star Wars: The Old Republic is BioWare’s best-in-class RPG storytelling which gives players the uncanny ability to live out their very own Star Wars story during a truly epic time in the galaxy,” said Charles Boyd, Creative Director on Star Wars: The Old Republic at BioWare. “Alongside an incredible community and the Lucasfilm Games team, we’ve invested the last 10 years growing and evolving the game and its story into a unique, fully customizable and sprawling Star Wars journey. As we set out to launch this next chapter with Legacy of the Sith, we are thrilled to offer new and veteran gamers and Star Wars fans the best experience yet with much more to come.”

The story of Legacy of the Sith builds upon Star Wars: The Old Republic’s dynamic plot and ongoing war between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, allowing players to advance their level to a new cap of 80. Players will adventure to the aquatic planet of Manaan on a campaign to discover the insidious plans of Darth Malgus – the game’s antagonist whose secret plans could spell doom for both the Jedi and the Sith. Legacy of the Sith brings with it new collaborative missions as well, including a 4-player Flashpoint set in a ruined Sith Fortress on the remote planet Elom.

Legacy of the Sith introduces the brand-new Combat Styles feature, which allows players to independently choose a specific origin story they love and combine it with their preferred tech or Force-wielding ability sets. Additionally, Loadouts increase players’ ability to customize their playstyles and gear with a single click.

In the year ahead during Star Wars: The Old Republic’s 10th Anniversary Celebration, BioWare will continue to release a variety of new content and updates to the evolving game. The new Operation, R-4 Anomaly, will have players explore the remains of a deep space research station inhabited by a cabal of exiled Sith when it launches later this year. Players can also look forward to additional UI updates, new player vs player (PvP) revamp, new Galactic Seasons, new encounters, tech modernizations, new visual improvements and more.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Adds Barbarians in Patch 7

During today’s Panel From Hell: 5th Edition live show, Baldur’s Gate 3’s seventh major patch – Absolute Frenzy – was revealed, heralding the arrival of the playable Barbarian class and the introduction of the soon-to-be world-famous sport of goblin-tossing (AKA Improvised Weapons), alongside many other additions, changes and fixes that march Baldur’s Gate 3 further down the path toward 1.0. Patch 7 opens up new ways to approach adventuring in Faerun, like a fog of war mechanic that obfuscates unexplored rooms, and tweaks to Darkvision and light/dark detection that make for much more effective stealth gameplay. The full patch notes will be available on Steam with a more in-depth look at what’s changed, but below are some highlights.

Patch 7: Absolute Frenzy will be available to Baldur’s Gate 3 players later today. In the meantime, catch the Panel From Hell: 5th Edition VOD on our YouTube and Twitch channels for smashing good fun:

  • New Class: Barbarian
    • Merciless in the heat of battle, fueled by nature’s fury, and boasting chaos energy louder than a thousand reality TV stars combined, Barbarians are the latest class to join Baldur’s Gate 3.
    • Two subclasses:
      • Wildheart Barbarians choose a Bestial Heart to inspire, protect and guide them, receiving different combat abilities and facial piercings depending on their choice.
      • Berserker Barbarians pull from a reservoir of pure fury, turning their Rage into a Frenzy that grants two new bonus actions – Enraged Throw wreaks additional damage to enemies and inflicts the prone status, and Frenzied Strike allows Berserkers to attack twice using a bonus action like Improvised Weapon.
  • Improvised Weapons: Almost anything has the potential to become a deadly projectile to be hurled at your foes! Improvised Weapons do damage based on their weight, and characters can wield an Improvised Weapon that weighs up to three times their Strength ability score. In short, this means with a high enough Strength stat, you can use something as big as a Mindflayer as a tool for thwacking your foes – although we don’t think he’d like it.
  • Thrown Weapons: Patch 7 also adds throwable Daggers, Javelins, Handaxes, and Spears that allow you to attack from a distance, making melee combat feel more dynamic.
  • Total UI Overhaul: Patch 7 includes a total overhaul of Baldur’s Gate 3’s HUD UI, making it slicker, streamlined, and easier to use.
  • Stealth & Exploration: Improving exploration in Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the cornerstones of this patch. We want to ensure that as you explore, the surprises that are waiting around the corner stay just that: a surprise!
    • Light & Dark: We’ve improved how light and dark areas are detected, meaning you’re less likely to miss when in daylight and hiding from NPCs is more precisely affected by the darkness around you.
    • Darkvision: Improved visualization means that characters using Darkvision won’t see a brightly lit room, but will instead see in the dark via a cone of vision effect.
    • Room Portals: Blackened barriers that cover the doors of unexplored rooms and conceal the characters and objects within them.
  • New Magic Loot: We’ve placed a fresh batch of Magic Loot throughout the world, ranging from helmets and gloves to lightning-charged tridents, each granting its owner an impressive stat boost, buff, or additional perk.
  • Upgraded Cinematics: We’ve improved nearly 700 cutscenes – upgrading visuals, tweaking characters, adding and enhancing animations, and improving pacing.

Community Feedback, Early Access & 1.0

We’ve listed some of the highlights here, but the full patch notes will be available once the patch goes live – a whopping twelve pages of them, with asterisks noting changes and fixes that were the direct result of feedback from the Baldur’s Gate 3 community.

Early Access continues to be a key part of Larian’s development process, allowing us to iterate and improve with feedback from our players to make the best game possible.

Our internal goal post for release is a quality bar rather than a date. A ton of progress has been made towards that quality bar over the past year in Early Access, but we know many players are waiting for an actual date. That date will come when we’re even closer to meeting our goal, but right now our expectation is that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released out of Early Access in 2023.

Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers Gets First Trailer and Poster

Today, Disney+ released the first trailer and a new poster for the original movie “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.” A comeback 30 years in the making, the hybrid live-action/CG animated action-comedy catches up with the former Disney Afternoon television stars in modern-day Los Angeles. “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” premieres May 20, 2022, exclusively on Disney+.

“Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” stars John Mulaney (“Saturday Night Live”) as Chip, Andy Samberg (“Palm Springs”) as Dale and KiKi Layne (“If Beale Street Could Talk”). Also joining the cast are Will Arnett (“Arrested Development”), Eric Bana (“Dirty John”), Flula Borg (“Pitch Perfect 2”), Dennis Haysbert (“24”), Keegan-Michael Key (“Schmigadoon!”), Tress MacNeille (“The Simpsons”), Tim Robinson (“I Think You Should Leave”), Seth Rogen (“Pam and Tommy”), J.K. Simmons (“Being the Ricardos”), Chris Parnell (“Saturday Night Live”). The film is directed by Akiva Schaffer (“Saturday Night Live”), written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) and is produced by Todd Lieberman (“Wonder”) and David Hoberman (“Beauty and the Beast”), with Alexander Young (“Extinction”) and Tom Peitzman serving as executive producers.

In “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers,” Chip and Dale are living amongst cartoons and humans in modern-day Los Angeles, but their lives are quite different now. It has been decades since their successful television series was canceled, and Chip (voice of Mulaney) has succumbed to a life of suburban domesticity as an insurance salesman. Dale (voice of Sandberg), meanwhile, has had CGI surgery and works the nostalgia convention circuit, desperate to relive his glory days. When a former cast mate mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must repair their broken friendship and take on their Rescue Rangers detective personas once again to save their friend’s life.

Dune: Spice Wars First Gameplay Trailer

Announced at The Game Awards back in December 2021 with a cinematic trailer that made many Dune fans jump in their seats, Dune: Spice Wars is the first game in two decades that brings players back to the inhospitable world of Arrakis. Here, players must lead one of the great factions to power by controlling the most valuable and strategically important resource in the universe: spice. And as we all know: if you control the spice, you control the universe.

Today, developer Shiro Games and publisher Funcom released the first-ever gameplay trailer, providing a unique glimpse at how the game looks and plays.

“This is a universe we care deeply about, and there are millions of fans out there who feel the same strong connection with the source material as we do,” said Sebastien Vidal, CEO of Shiro Games, the studio that also developed the highly successful Northgard. “We’re die-hard Dune and strategy nerds, so this is very much a game by fans, for the fans.”

Following last year’s release of Denis Villeneuve’s epic film, that fanbase is bigger than ever.

Originally announced as a 2022 PC Early Access release, Shiro Games and Funcom today also announced that players can expect to make planetfall on Arrakis already this spring. The game will first launch into Early Access on Steam with several important updates planned, including the introduction of multiplayer, more factions, and a full campaign.

Besides publishing Dune: Spice Wars, Funcom is also developing an open world survival multiplayer game set in the Dune universe. The company holds the exclusive rights to develop and publish Dune games on PC and consoles.

PowerSlave Exhumed Launch Trailer

Independent video game publisher and remaster studio Nightdive Studios — in partnership with Throwback Entertainment — is thrilled to announce today the launch of PowerSlave Exhumed™, available now for Windows PC, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One and Series S|X, and Nintendo Switch. Remastered using Nightdive’s robust and proprietary KEX engine, this classic ‘90s shooter is the latest title in the studio’s growing catalog of top-quality remasters and its first to launch simultaneously on PC and consoles.

PowerSlave Exhumed™ takes the best elements of the original PlayStation and Sega Saturn versions of PowerSlave™ and adds a bevy of new features, upgrades, and updates that take full advantage of the power of modern gaming platforms. Players can now enjoy PowerSlave™ in glorious widescreen, with support for up to 4K resolution, SMAA anti-aliasing, and anisotropic texture filtering. Nightdive has also added several console-specific features, including Achievement / Trophy support on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Steam Achievements, and gamepad support on PC.

There has been an extraterrestrial incursion in the ancient Egyptian city of Karnak, and an elite team of gritty professionals must investigate. Under the guidance of mighty Pharaoh Ramses’ spirit, PowerSlave™ players will use a deadly selection of modern and ancient weaponry — including M-60 machine guns and the powerful Eye of Rah Gauntlet — to cut through the Kilmaat hordes. During their epic journey players will explore ancient tombs and tackle mummies, fiery insectoids, Anubis zombies, and alien warriors in a quest to liberate Ramses, save the planet, and potentially ascend to godhood.

The original PowerSlave™ was released in North America, Europe, and Japan, for Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and MS-DOS from late 1996 to late 1997. Developed by Lobotomy Software, the title received critical acclaim, with Sega Saturn Magazine giving it a 92% rating and GamePro Magazine awarding a perfect 5/5. Nightdive Studios has poured every ounce of love and care into the remaster, adding yet another top-quality title to their ever-expanding catalog that includes the recently released SHADOW MAN: REMASTERED and upcoming System Shock remake.

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD Launch Trailer

The classic award-winning action-adventure game Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD, developed by Square One, is now available on PlayStation and Xbox platforms for $19.99.

What makes Stranger’s Wrath HD a unique game, even 17 years later, is its innovative blend of shooter, platformer, and puzzler with a hybrid viewpoint that allows the player to switch between 1st person action with 3rd person exploration.

A sci-fi spin on the classic Western motif made popular by people like Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood, you play as Stranger, a swaggering bounty hunter with a haunting secret on a Homeresque odyssey across the wastelands of Western Mudos.

Help Stranger track down fugitives for bounty by strategizing your approach and taking down the scoundrels and outlaws, either by bringing them in alive or giving them a one-way ticket to the pearly gates using “live” critter ammo. Either way, it is up to you how you want to collect the bounty because Stranger needs all the moolah he can earn, it may prove vital to his very existence.

This souped-up HD version of the classic combines 12 hours of story time, plus 5+ additional hours of side missions with dramatically improved audio, improved shadow maps, and full 4K graphics at 60 fps. It is native to PS4 and Xbox One and playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

In addition to exciting gameplay, Oddworld games also make you think. The storytellers at Oddworld Inhabitants continue to fashion cinematic experiences within the Oddworld universe as analogous to that of our own world. Mindfully balancing compelling storylines with propulsive gameplay, Stranger’s Wrath is an examination of timely philosophical themes such as the displacement of indigenous people, the privatization of natural resources, and the rising cost of health care without sacrificing fun.

Wanted: Dead Valentine’s Day Trailer

This Valentine’s Day, 110 Industries comes bearing the appropriately red-hued gift that is the bloody new Wanted: Dead Valentine’s Day trailer. The trailer treats us to a closer look at the game’s stylish high-octane combat, complete with spectacular John Wick-esque style finishers and slick, limb-severing swordplay.

Developed by Japanese studio Soleil, Wanted: Dead blends melee sword combat, exciting gunplay and a unique limb severing system to deliver a deep action title inspired by the mechanically rich combat systems found in titles like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Players take on the role of Lt. Hannah Stone, stepping into a dark and dangerous vision of cyberpunk Hong Kong as leader of the “Zombie Squad”, an elite team who work outside the purview of the traditional police force. You will fall in love with Stone’s elite combat skills that combine style and substance, delivering cool slow-motion sequences, the ability to issue orders to teammates and a limb severing mechanic that changes enemy attack patterns.

Your date with Wanted: Dead this Valentine’s Day will take a stop at the Atomic Heart diner. Offering a change of pace to the game’s adrenaline-pumping combat, the diner offers a place for Lt. Stone to chill as she consumes food and drinks for buffs that will help her on her deadly missions, while giving us players the chance to get to know the eccentric cast of characters that comprise her team.

“We’ve been thrilled with the response from the press and public since we revealed Wanted: Dead last year,” said Sergei Kolobashkin, founder and Creative Director at 110 Industries. “Everyone really seems to have embraced the outlandish style and tone we are aiming for! We hope you all enjoy our Valentine’s Day gift and I promise you there will be plenty more to come this year, so keep your eyes open!”.
