Cities: Skylines II Out Now

Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order today launched the most detailed city builder ever made: Cities: Skylines II. Players take on the roles of creator, city planner, and architect as they design and manage the cities of their dreams, evolving them from humble towns to thriving metropolises. Cities: Skylines II is now available on PC via Steam and Windows Store for a suggested retail price of $49.99 / £41.99 / €49.99, and is also available via PC Game Pass. The Ultimate Edition is available for a suggested retail price of $89.99 / £74.99 / €89.99 and comes with the Expansion Pass, including an instantly unlocked San Francisco set at launch, and an Asset Pack, two Content Creator Packs, three Radio Stations, and an Expansion unlocking over time.

Cities: Skylines II grants players the ability to create bigger and more complex cities than ever before, boasting a map five times larger than the original game. Players have full control over their cities, allowing them to map out paths with flexible road tools, diversify city districts with zoning, expand their public transportation and infrastructure for citizens, and grow their cities’ economies through production and trade.

Players’ choices may have economic and environmental consequences, but Cities: Skylines II offers a wide variety of tools to solve urban challenges and improve the lives of citizens. Each citizen now has a unique life, with jobs, homes, families, and more. Citizens aren’t the only part of a developing metropolis that makes it feel alive; the implementation of more intelligent traffic AI and changing weather patterns based on climate also come together to make cities real.

“Cities: Skylines II is about more than just building; it is about impact,” said Mariina Hallikainen, CEO of Colossal Order. “Each choice players make affects their citizens and the world around them in meaningful ways. Never before have players had so much freedom to manage these consequences from different angles by experimenting with and combining systems. We empower our players to plan, build, and grow the cities of their dreams however they want.”

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria Official Launch Trailer

Independent developer Free Range Games and publisher North Beach Games are proud to announce that The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, the only survival crafting video game set in the Fourth Age of Middle-earth™, the iconic fantasy world created by J.R.R. Tolkien, is available now digitally for Windows PC via the Epic Games Store. The game will see both a digital and physical release for the PlayStation®5 computer entertainment system on Dec. 5, and is scheduled to come to the Xbox Series X|S console systems in early 2024. Answer the call of Lord Gimli Lockbearer, and lead your band of Dwarves on an all-new adventure to reclaim their forgotten kingdom in the darkest deeps of the fabled Mines of Moria.

“The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is a love letter to Professor Tolkien’s Dwarves, made by a development team of hardcore fans. We’ve stuffed it with as much lore, exploration, danger and joy as we could fit,” said Jon-Paul Dumont, Game Director, Free Range Games. “But this isn’t the end! With the support of our incredible community, this is just the start of our adventures in Khazad-dûm.”

“We are thrilled to launch The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, and can’t wait for survival crafting fans to create their Dwarves and step into the Fourth Age of Middle-earth to explore the iconic world of J.R.R. Tolkien,” noted John Miller, CEO, North Beach Games. “Free Range Games was the perfect partner for this endeavor; Their vision for the project, dedication to the lore and expertise in the genre combined to create a deeply engaging and satisfying experience that we hope fans of both survival crafting and The Lord of the Rings will enjoy.”

The story of The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria takes players beyond the books and into the Fourth Age of Middle-earth, the fantastical world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Summoned to the Misty Mountains by Lord Gimli Lockbearer (voiced in-game by actor John Rhys-Davies), players band together as a company of Dwarves tasked to reclaim the lost spoils from the Dwarven homeland of Moria — known as Khazad-dûm or Dwarrowdelf — in the depths below their very feet. Their quest will require fortitude and teamwork, delving deep into the Mines of Moria to recover its treasures in the hopes of one day restoring them to their former glory.

In The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria players will create their own custom Dwarf before venturing into the cavernous mines of Moria alone or together with a company of fellow Dwarves online. Each adventure into the depths will bring unique challenges and opportunities through the use of procedurally generated environments, creating nearly endless possibilities as players seek the deepest delves of the Dwarves. As they venture ever deeper, the Dwarves will need to ensure their metal is ready to meet the dangers that lie within, crafting resilient armors and finely honed weapons capable of protecting against and defeating all manner of goblin, arachnoid, or more mysterious foes they may encounter. Excavate the mysteries of the Misty Mountains, extract precious metals prized by Dwarves, rebuild and refire forges that have long since gone cold, and learn the secret of the Shadow that lurks within.

Alan Wake 2 Launches THIS WEEK!

The highly-anticipated Alan Wake 2 launches this week, and looks stunning with breathtaking, fully ray-traced graphics which are accelerated and enhanced by NVIDIA DLSS 3.5’s complete suite of AI-powered technologies.

GeForce RTX 40 Series gamers will receive the definitive day-one experience: frame rates are multiplied by an average of 4.5X at 4K, ray tracing is even more immersive thanks to NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and NVIDIA Reflex makes gameplay even more responsive.

Additionally, Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure, and Shadows of Doubt, two highly rated indie games, also receive DLSS performance upgrades today.

The Return of Alan Wake!

Remedy Entertainment’s eagerly awaited Alan Wake 2, published by Epic Games, arrives October 27th with jaw-dropping fully ray-traced graphics, enhanced and accelerated by DLSS 3.5 with Ray Reconstruction. Players will explore two beautiful yet terrifying worlds, boasting the most advanced visuals seen to date in gaming, searching for the source of a supernatural darkness that has trapped Alan in an endless nightmare.

Alan Wake 2’s fully ray-traced, path-traced visuals take the game’s ray-traced lighting, reflections and shadows to the next level, unifying them in a single solution that produces incredible results, as seen in this new, exclusive Alan Wake 2 RTX launch video.

Alan Wake 2 Gets Up to 4.5X Faster with a DLSS Performance Upgrade

Activating ray tracing and DLSS in Alan Wake 2 on a GeForce RTX GPU automatically enables Ray Reconstruction, replacing two denoisers with a unified AI model that enhances the quality of ray tracing, making gameplay more immersive, and graphics more realistic. In addition, Ray Reconstruction runs up to 14% faster in our benchmarks, further accelerating performance for GeForce RTX gamers.

The combination of NVIDIA technology gives NVIDIA GeForce RTX Gamers the ultimate Alan Wake 2 experience, with beautiful graphics and a remarkable performance uplift. Here are a few examples:

  • At 4K, with every setting maxed and full ray tracing enabled, activating Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction and Super Resolution sees frame rates multiply astronomically. On the GeForce RTX 4090, performance multiplies by 4.1X, enabling owners to play Alan Wake 2 at its very best at over 120 FPS at 4K! The GeForce RTX 4080 sees its performance multiplied by 4.7X, and the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti multiplies performance by 4.7X, for max setting 4K gameplay at nearly 80 FPS
  • At 1440p, GeForce RTX 40 Series frame rates multiply by an average of 3X with full ray tracing and every other setting maxed out, enabling 80 FPS+ gameplay on the GeForce RTX 4070 and above
  • At 1080p, the most popular gaming resolution, performance multiplies by 2.7X on average, enabling owners of faster cards to play at up to 190 FPS

The Fully Ray Traced World of Alan Wake 2

Full ray tracing, also known as path tracing, accurately simulates light throughout an entire scene. It is used by visual effects artists to create film and TV graphics that are indistinguishable from reality, but until the arrival of GeForce RTX GPUs with RT Cores, and the AI-powered acceleration of NVIDIA DLSS 3.5, real-time video game full ray tracing was impossible.

In Alan Wake 2, RT High and RT Medium settings use path tracing. For full details, the following table shows which settings utilize path tracing, and what ray-traced features are available when enabling each preset.

Farming Simulator 22 Garage Extension Trailer

Just like any automobile enthusiast, farmers know: a garage just can’t be big enough. Developer and publisher GIANTS Software releases a new trailer to provide agricultural machine lovers with a foretaste of what’s to come on November 14th with the Premium Expansion and Premium Edition of Farming Simulator 22.

In the official Garage Trailer, selected machines are highlighted in style, while the company’s video department resuscitated their fondness of electronic freestyle hip-hop of the mid-80s and early 90s.

Plenty of New Brands & Machines
Atop more than 400 machines of the base game, the Premium Expansion adds over 35 new items from newcomer manufacturers Dewulf, Gorenc, Agrio & WIFO, plus even more machines by BEDNAR, Fiat, GRIMME, Kverneland, SaMASZ & others. The new additions also push the number of available real-world brands and their authentically digitized machines in Farming Simulator 22 to over 150.

More Authentic Than Ever
To prepare the fields in Zielonka, the Premium Expansion’s new map, and care for the new crops, GIANTS Software adds a variety of machines to sow, harvest and tend to the soil. Carrots, parsnips, and red beet have special requirements, so rotary hillers like the GRIMME GF 800 to create ridges before sowing, and various harvesting machines like the highlight machine Dewulf ZKIVSE vegetable harvester are required to care for them.

All of them, as usual, are authentically digitized – with even more care applied to moving parts and other mechanical details, resulting in even more realistic machinery. A complete list of all machines, various placeables, and other items included in the Premium Expansion is available at farming-simulator.com.

BenQ X3000i 4K HDR Gaming Projector Review

The BenQ X3000i is a 4K HDR gaming projector with a great balance of performance and features. Coming in at about $1900 Dollars, it’s certainly not the cheapest projector on the market, but it’s also not the most expensive. And, for its heft price, it offers a metric ton worth of value. Opening the BenQ box and placing the X3000i on the shelf, it is a sizeable product, measuring 7.8 by 10.7 by 10.2 inches. It’s also weighty at just over 14 lbs! The BenQ X3000i exudes excellent build quality as its weight and stability scream “well-made” from on high. The X3000i is also fairly easy to set up. It comes with a remote control and all of the necessary cables. Once I plugged it in and pointed it at a 100-inch screen across the room, I was off and running. It should be noted that the X3000i only connects to home networks via Wi-Fi meaning there is no LAN connection port to be found. Whether this is a factor would be up to you and your home theater setup.

As far as image quality, the X3000i’s picture is excellent. It produces a sharp, clear image with accurate colors and good contrast. The projector also has a wide viewing angle so that you can enjoy the image from anywhere in the room. One of the things that makes the X3000i’s image quality so good is its 4K resolution. With 8.3 million pixels, the X3000i is able to produce a level of detail that is simply not possible with lower-resolution projectors. This is especially noticeable in games and movies with many fine details, such as fur, grass, and skin textures. The BenQ X3000i also has a high brightness of 3000 lumens. It can produce a bright image even in rooms with some ambient light. This is a big plus for gamers who want to play in a well-lit room without having to sacrifice image quality. The X3000i also supports HDR, which stands for high dynamic range. HDR is a technology that can produce images with a wider range of contrast and brightness levels than traditional SDR images. This results in more realistic and immersive images. While the projector shines with 4K content, it also does an outstanding job upscaling 1080p content to a 4K output. It’s not as clear as a true 4K image, of course, but it is more than passable.

The X3000i is a great projector for gaming. It has a low input lag of 4ms while playing in 1080p@240Hz mode, and all the way up to 16ms at 4K@60Hz modes. This means that there is very little delay between the time you input a command on your game controller or keyboard and the time you see it on the screen. This is important for competitive gamers who need to be able to react quickly to what they’re seeing. The BenQ X3000i 4K HDR Gaming Projector also has a dedicated game mode that optimizes the projector’s settings for gaming. This mode reduces input lag and enhances image quality for gaming and I found it to work very well. There is also the ability to engage a wider color gamut at the expense of some peak brightness, but I found the color gamut to be just fine with this disabled – it’s a personal preference. One issue with the image that I did note was that, sometimes there was a slight rainbow effect. It didn’t happen all the time, but it did pop up now and again. This can be a distraction for some viewers – although, I know that several others watching with me did not seem to see it. Are my eyes just special? Possible.

Something to consider is that this projector is very much geared towards larger spaces like your living room, etc. for the ultimate home theater/gaming experience. While the X3000i can throw a 100-inch image out at around 9 feet, the projector truly shines when sending the light from its four projection LEDs out to a 150-inch screen at around 15.5 feet! The image is glorious and, unfortunately, too much for my small living space. I did test it out at a friend’s house with a large room and, again, it was simply glorious…. This being the case, if you are dealing with a smaller room, you might consider a projector with a shorter throw distance.

Additionally, the BenQ X3000i has built-in Android TV, which means you can access all of your favorite streaming apps without connecting an external device. The projector has a built-in speaker, but you’ll probably want to use an external sound system for the best audio experience. The big drawback of this is that the Android TV dongle will only output a 60Hz signal to the projector, so you’re missing out on the full potential of the X3000i. But, the tradeoff is that you get access to all the streaming services offered by the dongle. I used not only the dongle in my working with the projector, but also my 4K UHD player. My copies of John Carpenter’s Halloween, Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat, and Top Gun: Maverick all proved to be excellent pairings on this projector.

The BenQ X3000i is a great projector for movies and gaming. If you’re looking for a 4K HDR gaming projector that offers great performance, features, and image quality for the ultimate home theater/gaming experience, the X3000i is a great option – just be prepared to pay for it and make sure you have the space to accommodate its throw distance.

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5
