The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 Board Game Images Released

July 19, 2017 – Mondo and USAopoloy’s Project Raygun will have the regular version and Jock’s Mondo exclusive version on display at San Diego Comic-Con

The Mondo exclusive version, to be sold exclusively through MondoTees.com, is limited to 1,982 copies, and features different packaging artwork by Jock. The limited edition game will also come with a Mondo print, enamel pin and two additional sculpted movers: the Norwegian character and the Palmer Thing.

“This film is a personal favorite of mine, so it was great to revisit the material. Mondo’s Jay Shaw and I played around with lots of different ideas for the packaging while I worked on the art – and I’m pleased to say that I’m really proud of the final product. I had the chance to test the game before starting work on the art and was very impressed with how it played; it literally feels like you’re in the movie!” said artist Jock.

The Thing™ Infection at Outpost 31 Gameplay Description

It is the start of the bleak, desolate Antarctic winter when a group of NSF researchers manning the claustrophobic, isolated U.S. Outpost 31 comes into contact with a hostile extraterrestrial lifeform. Bent on assimilating Earth’s native species, this being infiltrates the facility-creating a perfect imitation of one of the Outpost 31 crew. The staff frantically begin a sweep of the base, desperate to purge this alien infection before escaping to warn McMurdo Station that somewhere, out there in the frigid darkness, something horrible is waiting.

In The Thing™ Infection at Outpost 31, relive John Carpenter’s sci-fi cult classic as a hidden identity game designed to push you to the edge. Play as one of a dozen characters like helicopter pilot MacReady, mechanic Childs, or station manager Garry. Face sabotage and infection as you investigate the facility-gather gear, battle The Thing, expose any imitations among you, and escape Outpost 31!

Tension mounts and paranoia ensues as you question who you can trust in the ultimate race to save humanity.

First Ataribox Pictures Released

July 17th, 2017 – Our objective is to create a new product that stays true to our heritage while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari.

Inspired by classic Atari design elements (such as the iconic use of wood, ribbed lines, and raised back); we are creating a smooth design, with ribs that flow seamlessly all around the body of the product, a front panel that can be either wood or glass, a front facing logo, indicator lights that glow through the material, and an array of new ports (HDMI, 4xUSB, SD). We intend to release two editions: a wood edition, and a black/red edition.

As you can guess, those ports suggest modern internal specs. It also means that while we will be delivering classic gaming content, we will also be delivering current gaming content.

We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, features, pricing, timing etc. We’re not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we’ve opted to share things step by step as we bring Ataribox to life, and to listen closely to Atari community feedback as we do so. There are a lot of milestones, challenges and decision points in front of us in the months ahead. We’ll be giving you lots more information and status updates as we progress, and we are thrilled to have you along for the ride!

Hope you like where we are taking this, we’ll be in touch soon.

The Ataribox Project team.

E3 2017 Photo Gallery

Another E3 Expo has come and gone and, with it, all those great geeky moments! This year’s E3 Expo was slightly more chaotic, with the addition of 15,000 public passes sold for the event. The idea is interesting, but did not help me at all in covering it as it just crowded up the exhibit halls. I hope that, if they sell public passes next year, they make them one day only and for Thursday (or add Friday) as a public-specific day. But, I digress… Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all had their wares on display while, once again, Electronic Arts hosted their own event some distance away from the convention center. I hope they just come back to the show next year – it makes things so much easier having it all in one place. Ubisoft wowed us once again with their upcoming South Park: The Fractured But Whole and we were blown away by Multiverse’s Seeking Dawn and THQ Nordic’s ELEX. I got my taste of a VR flight simulation with DCS F/A-18C and also enjoyed checking out some playtime with Activision’s Call of Duty: WWII. Overall, it was a great show!

Escape From Tarkov New Screenshots from The Shoreline

Saint Petersburg, Russia – Battlestate Games, developer of Escape from Tarkov, the realism-focused hardcore FPS/MMO hybrid, have released screenshots and concept artwork for the new location – The Shoreline.

The Shoreline closely neighbors the Tarkov evacuation point, and is characterized by a noticeably larger map footprint than any other Tarkov locations. The Shoreline houses a partially abandoned village, modern private housing, fields, a marina, gas station, weather station, cellular base station and more.
Its chief point of interest is the large “Azure Coast” health resort, consisting of several buildings with a central hydroelectric power plant. The main exit from of this new area will be located next to the Russian Armed Forces checkpoint at the Port entrance.

Escape from Tarkov is a hardcore story-driven MMO featuring FPS and RPG elements. The events take place in the Russian city of Tarkov, which has been sealed off by roadblocks and sunk into the chaos of local warfare between private military companies. Escape from Tarkov‘s Hazardous Environment Combat Simulator employs a number of custom system modules to create incredibly immersive gameplay and make players feel the reality of what is happening in the game.

The closed beta-testing of Escape from Tarkov is planned for summer 2017. To learn more about Escape from Tarkov and to sign up for closed beta, visit www.escapefromtarkov.com.Like’ the game on Facebook and follow the game’s development on Twitter @bstategames for all the latest developer updates and news.

2017 Operation Lionclaws XVI Loadout

As we approach the 2017 Operation Lionclaws XVI airsoft game in Victorville, CA it’s time to put together our loadout. In case you missed our 2016 Operation Lionclaws after-action report, you can read it here. This year, Lionclaws XVI will consist of three different sides: SOCOM, Red Scorpion, and the Black Widow Militia. Currently, attendance numbers stand at 175, 128, and 131 respectively. With over 430 players in the AO, making sure to pack accordingly is key to having a great time. This main Lionclaws event is taking place at the abandoned housing area of George Air Force Base, an AO with many hazards for those players not paying attention. Because of this, coupled with the wonderfully warm Southern California weather, I thought we’d start by mentioning that players should pack plenty of water and protective gear in their kits. Knee pads, elbow pads, and bump helmets are very important, and could save you from injury.

Airsoft Guns

For this event, we are on the Red Scorpion side, so we are trying to pack in a more Russian/Soviet style. This means that our airsoft weapons are all of an AK variety of some kind. Here are my two primary airsoft guns for the event – notice I mention “two primary” guns. Always be sure to pack a backup in case yours breaks down for some reason.

Magpul PTS Masada AKM with Under-barrel 40mm launcher (Primary and Anti-Vehicle Launcher)

This AEG is a workhorse, and an extremely underappreciated one at that (most people went for the 5.56 style Magpul Masada). Made at the time when Magpul was still officially in the airsoft game, the Magpul PTS Masada AKM uses special AK style magazines and features high build quality. The only modification I made to it was to put in a slightly stiffer spring and an aftermarket hop up assembly.

The under-barrel 40mm launcher is one of the lighter “speed” models sold by Evike.com, and doesn’t weigh the front of the gun down like other, full metal versions would.

KWA AKR-74M Electric Recoil Gun (Primary – Backup)

One of KWA’s new ERG family members, the AKR-74M ERG features great recoil almost like a gas blowback rifle would provide, all the while using batteries like a traditional AEG. This ERG has some really solid performance numbers and would make for a great primary or backup rifle.

As far as secondary weapons go, I am packing both a sidearm as well as a cut-down launcher to supplement my under-barrel one. In Lionclaws games, only foam rockets fired from an under-barrel or shoulder-deployed launcher count to damage vehicles. My secondary launcher will handle BB shower type grenades while my under-barrel will be loaded with a foam rocket, just in case!

Evike.com Exclusive KWA USP Match Gas Blowback Pistol (Secondary)

This Evike exclusive re-issue of the famed KWA USP Match is one beast of a gas blowback pistol. It hits hard, has great range and accuracy, as well as rugged build quality.

King Arms M79 Sawed-Off Grenade Launcher (Anti-Personnel Launcher)

Having this short airsoft grenade launcher in a belt pouch is easy to carry, and the fact that it’s built like a tank doesn’t hurt. I can deploy this launcher quickly and fire off a 140 round BB shower grenade for room clearing in no time at all.

Tactical Gear

For our game, we are going with BDUs from AirsoftMegastore’s Jagun Tactical line. In this particular case, being a part of Red Scorpion, the trousers and shirts with the Digital Flora camouflage pattern. The nice thing about these gen 3 BDUs from AirsoftMegastore is that they come equipped with knee pads built into the trousers. This is so much more comfortable than wearing external pads, which do nothing except make your legs sweaty. With these, the air can flow through the trouser legs and you can still keep from skinning your knees up on dangerous ground.

Additionally, I will be wearing a Jagun Tactical Russian Smersh Chest Rig. This chest rig allows for good airflow as well as mobility – two things important for comfort and effectiveness. Being a chest rig, it will allow for enhanced air to hit my combat shirt, as well as provide less constricting material which could hinder movement. Additionally, it carries six full AK style magazines that will allow me to field plenty of ammo for the long duration games.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Screenshots and Details

Red Dead Redemption 2 is now set to launch Spring 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans.

We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer. In the meantime, please enjoy this selection of new screenshots from the world of Red Dead Redemption 2.

LVL Up Expo Las Vegas 2017

There are a lot of expos and conventions that hit Las Vegas and each have their own special niche, sometimes more than one.  But if you want anime and a whole lot of cosplay the LVL Up Expo is the place to be! There you will also find amateur wrestling matches, video game tournaments, air soft target practice, and panels with anime voice over artists like Sean Schemmel (Dragon Ball Z), Christopher Sabat with a whole bunch of voices also including some Dragon Ball Z, and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect and Star Wars: Clone Wars).  Hale’s work alone is staggering and could take a whole day to cover. There were more panels filling the three days lining corridors with every manner of character in every way, shape and form.  There was plenty of understanding and no shaming for those who wanted to be a character that wasn’t their size, there were no issues about male or female characters, as a matter of fact the most popular Spider-Man cosplayer was a woman.

The LVL Up Expo in Las Vegas was a great event whether you were or were not into anime and comics.  My photographer didn’t understand many of the costumes she saw but loved them all and I even managed to win a hat at CrossFire… maybe next year I will do better in the tournament or take on one of the wrestlers. Time will tell!
