Classic Game Night Trap Gets New Release

NEW YORK, Aug. 9, 2017 – “Night Trap,” the infamous Sega video game that singlehandedly caused a national debate on violence in video games that resulted in senate hearings and the ESRB video game ratings system, is being rereleased for its 25th anniversary. The title will be released in special limited-edition versions for the PlayStation and PC Aug. 11 then digitally for both Aug. 15 followed by a release on Xbox Live shortly thereafter.

“Night Trap” was initially released in 1992 and sold close to 1 million units. It gained a loyal fan following, partly as a result of the 1993 Senate hearings on violence in video games. Former Senator Joseph Lieberman co-chaired the hearings, characterizing the game as ultraviolent, sick and disgusting, and incorrectly claiming the object of the game was to trap and kill women. Digital Pictures executives testified and explained the object of the game was to save women, however were silenced in what many felt was an attempt to misrepresent the game and unfairly brand it as an example of extreme violence in video games. Several retailers pulled “Night Trap” from their shelves and the hearings resulted in the formation of the ESRB video game ratings system in 1994.

The new release of “Night Trap” was completely rebuilt from scratch and is a completely redeveloped and remastered version of the game with video footage in near DVD quality. Additional features added include:
– A theater option to watch all of the scenes in the game,
– deleted scenes,
– a completely new gameplay mode called “survivor” with randomized gameplay and online functionality (leaderboards),
– production stills and a concept art gallery,
– director interview with Jim Riley about the creative process for the title, and
– an additional game never before released called “Scene of The Crime,” which is the original prototype for “Night Trap.”

“Night Trap” is an interactive horror movie spoof that uses full-motion video to tell a story about a group of girls having a slumber party and becoming the targets of vampire villains. Players set traps in an effort to capture the vampires and save the girls from having their blood sucked. Among other obstacles the player must know when to activate traps, have the correct color codes for the traps to work properly and accumulate knowledge of the rapidly unfolding story.

The game was originally produced for approximately $1.5 million and filmed in 1986. It was originally intended for Hasbro’s ControlVision video game platform, but the system was never released and the game never finished. The video footage was eventually purchased and released by Digital Pictures for the Sega CD console, PC and Mac.

RAID: World War II Gets A Release Date

Stockholm, Sweden (August 9, 2017) – Prepare to fight dirty and dictate new world disorder with RAID: World War II as Starbreeze, Lion Game Lion and 505 Games today revealed release dates for the highly-anticipated shooter, starring John Cleese as the British intelligence officer Control. Coming to PC on September 26 th and digital and physical retail formats of PlayStation®4 and Xbox One this October, the action-packed four-player cooperative first-person shooter is set during the terrifying time when the German war machine was tearing through Europe, and hope was in short supply.

Known for contributing to critically-acclaimed heist game PAYDAY 2, developers Lion Game Lion lead by Game Director Ilija Petrusic (Co-founder of OVERKILL Software and lead level designer of PAYDAY: The Heist and PAYDAY 2) and Starbreeze Publishing bring their trademark fun and exciting cooperative gameplay, stealth mechanics and superb sound design to this thrilling period shooter. RAID’s unique character classes, hero special abilities, customizable weapons and uniforms, and real-life war-torn locations bring the surreal conflict to life as players fight for their freedom through sabotage, robbery, and assassination of the dastardly Nazi regime.

“The goal in RAID: World War II is simple – sabotage, assassinate and pulverize everything bearing a swastika – mess with Hitler and steal his treasures,” said Ilija Petrusic, Game Director at Lion Game Lion. “With the Nazi regime as the ultimate evil, RAID brings together four unique characters with playstyles that complement and enhance each other as they fight and steal across Europe.”

In RAID’s world-wide fight against evil, four prisoners of war are freed by an ominous secret British intelligence officer, “Mrs. White,” who needs to take down Hitler and his Third Reich once and for all. Players will utilize key game features to save Europe from the Nazi threat and get rich, including:

• Class Based Gameplay – Players choose from four different classes – Recon, Assault, Insurgent, or Demolitions – each with their own highly developed skill tree that allows for various play styles;
• War Cries – Each character class can unleash their own powerful War Cry to buff their player or the entire team;
• Character Customization – RAID’s four heroes represent the main combatants from the European theatre of WWII: Great Britain, USA, Germany and the Soviet Union. Each character possesses a unique look and a customizable uniform;
• Lethal Weapon Modifications – the Second World War was infamous for arming the world with deadly and experimental weapons that went “bang” in lethal fashion. RAID: World War II gives players access to an array of precision killing machines complete with weapons upgrades such as custom barrels, stocks, fore grips, optic sights and much more to satisfy a variety tastes;
• Operations Mode – RAID: World War II offers players the opportunity to play through extended versions of their favorite missions by undertaking the “Operations” gameplay mode. Operations challenges players through a chained series of highly modified raids, featuring new storylines, and added content and objectives;
• Challenge Cards – By participating and completing successful raids, players will earn Challenge Cards that allow them to customize the rules of a raid in a give-and-take fashion. For example, enemy ammo drops will increase, providing players with more ammunition to hold enemies at bay; however, the damage inflicted by enemies will be greater;
• Real-World Locations – The game’s setting takes place in real-world locations across war-torn Europe. From mighty m dominating the heart of Berlin, to the idyllic bridge over the Elbe, players will travel through a war-torn Europe and bring destruction to Nazis in every corner of Hitler’s Reich.

The Reich will get hit hard and the personal riches of the Fuhrer will be stolen on PC September 26 and on PlayStation®4 and Xbox One Tuesday, Oct. 10 in North America, and Friday, Oct. 13 in Europe, Middle East and Asia. The game’s ESRB rating is pending. For more information, visit www.raidworldwar2.com.

Ubisoft Opens New Stockholm Studio

MALMO — AUGUST 8, 2017 — Today, Ubisoft announced that it will increase its creative capacities in Sweden with the opening of Ubisoft Stockholm. The new studio will be led by Patrick Bach, fresh from 15 years with EA’s DICE studio in Stockholm, most recently holding the position of General Manager. An industry veteran with numerous AAA titles under his belt, the new studio will benefit from Bach’s proven track record in innovation, world-class technology and international management skills. The Ubisoft Stockholm teams will collaborate with Massive Entertainment, a Ubisoft studio in Malmö, Sweden, on the development of AAA games including the recently announced Avatar game. Ubisoft Stockholm expects to grow to a team of 100 in the first two years of operation, and is starting to recruit immediately.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Ubisoft family, where I feel I will be able to use my experience in the game industry in a new and different way. My goal has always been to create the best possible gaming experiences for players. When talking to Ubisoft about what we value most, it was clear that we share the same passion for nurturing teams’ creativity with that goal in mind,” stated Patrick Bach, Studio Manager, Ubisoft Stockholm.

The new Stockholm studio will plug into Ubisoft’s cross-studio collaboration approach, in which Ubisoft studios from across the globe work together on AAA game development, with each studio providing distinct contributions based on their areas of expertise. Sweden is also home to Massive in Malmö, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and was acquired by Ubisoft in 2008. It has since grown to become one of the biggest Swedish development studios, and is looking to grow even further by recruiting for 200 new positions over the coming two year period. The two Swedish studios will work together particularly closely.

“I am confident that Patrick Bach’s leadership skills, his desire to nurture the passion and creativity of the people he works with, and the attraction of Ubisoft’s renowned brands will encourage world-class talent to join Ubisoft Stockholm. The combination of these different elements will lay strong foundations for the new studio, enabling the team to focus on the quality and innovation of the games they create, and grow to become one of the best studios in the world,” said David Polfeldt, Managing Director at Massive Entertainment, a Ubisoft studio.

Just one hour from Malmö by air, Stockholm is a world-leading tech region, and a recognized hub for game development thanks to its high-potential talent pool fueled by many famous studios and local schools. The city is the most populated city in the Nordic region, and internationally acclaimed for being a great place in terms of innovation and for start-ups. The city is also home to some of Europe’s top ranking universities, such as the Stockholm School of Economics, and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). The addition of the new studio means that Ubisoft will take an even stronger position in the country’s video game ecosystem, creating 300 job opportunities in total in Sweden.

“Ubisoft Stockholm is the latest example of Ubisoft’s selective expansion in Europe and beyond, aiming to tap into high potential talent pools, and further strengthen our existing local presences,” stated Christine Burgess-Quémard, Executive Director of Ubisoft’s worldwide studios. “We believe that Ubisoft Stockholm will be an important pillar in this expansion, enabling us to continue to attract some of the best talent in our industry.”

Both Ubisoft Stockholm and Massive, are now recruiting. Ubisoft is committed to creating an inclusive work environment that reflects the diversity of the player community, and is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to their race, ethnicity, religion, gender sexual orientation, age or disability status. Midsummer Scream 2017 Post-Mortem

Midsummer Scream 2017 has come and, unfortunately, gone for another year. This year’s event completely blew away their 2016 offering, which was already an amazing horror/Halloween convention. This year, the event saw even more panels, exhibitors, and mini-haunt experiences for guests to enjoy. Additionally, the screening room featured a number of horror shorts to view over the course of the weekend.

Knott’s Scary Farm announced the last year for Elvira to perform in the park as well as a revised Trick or Treat maze. Universal Studios went into more detail on their upcoming maze based on The Shining and some of their street zone areas. The Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor crew hosted a panel where they announced a new maze and featured “Chef” character. Also of note was the panel for Into the Black, an upcoming four-part haunted attraction experience from Larry Bones, owner of Boneyard Effects. The Hall of Shadows was back, bigger and better with way more haunted experiences to take in. Also of note was the sliding group known as the Decayed Brigade. Made up of former and current scare actors, the group performs cool acrobatic stunts by throwing their bodies against a smooth runway and sliding along the ground.

I also want to give a shout out to the Long Beach Convention Center which has, hands down, the best convention center food in Southern California. I have eaten at most of the big convention centers in this area and Long Beach sells custom sandwiches, gourmet coffee, and a lot more. We preferred to eat at their cafe instead of walking across the street to outside restaurants.

The biggest issue we experienced during our visit to Midsummer Scream was getting from the convention center to the main stage, which was located at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. The walk in between was a bit of a chore, having attendees cross a narrow pedestrian bridge in a construction zone. The upside, of course, was getting to utilize the large house space of the Performing Arts Center, so it’s a trade-off. However, it is a shame there isn’t an internal walkway connecting the buildings.

Overall, Midsummer Scream was even better than last year’s offering, and it now marks the official start of the Halloween journalism season. The next upcoming event is ScareLA and then we begin preview events for the big haunted attractions out there. Stay-tuned for more!

Halloween Horror Nights Announces Titans of Terror Maze and Tram Experience

Universal City, CA, August 7, 2017 – Universal Studios Hollywood unites four slasher film legends—Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface and Chucky—in two all-new terrifying “Titans of Terror” experiences as part of this year’s “Halloween Horror Nights” event which kicks off Friday, September 15, 2017.

In the new “Titans of Terror” maze, guests will fall victim to the silver screen’s most deplorable killers whose affinity for bladed weapons redefined the horror movie genre as slasher films: Leatherface (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) wielding his iconic chainsaw, Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) brandishing his relentless machete, and Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street) swiping his trademark glove armed with razor blades. The new maze will be an assault on guests’ sensibilities as they descend into the forbidden realms of these horror icons.

Taking terror to an unspeakable level of bloodcurdling screams, the “Titans of Terror Tram Hosted by Chucky” will transport guests into a nightmare of carnage pitting guests against these four modern horror icons, this time led by infamous serial killer doll Chucky (Child’s Play franchise). With his faithful army of degenerate chainsaw-wielding Good Guy Dolls, Chucky will unleash havoc upon guests as they navigate a portion of the world-famous backlot.

Further “Terror Tram” encounters will include Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) at the Crystal Lake Motel where he slaughters newly arrived camp counselors; an ominous confrontation with Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street) who takes his ultimate revenge on the town of Springwood; and a final foray through the barn from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, where Leatherface and the Sawyer family butcher victims for their cannibal cuisine.

Unique to Universal Studios Hollywood, the “Terror Tram” enables “Halloween Horror Nights” guests to walk along an area of the famed movie and television studio, where such sets as the Psycho House and the Bates Motel from Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller, and Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds, are located.

“Halloween Horror Nights” at Universal Studios Hollywood brings together the sickest minds in horror to immerse guests in a living, breathing, three-dimensional world of terror. Featuring an all-new slate of unrivaled film production quality mazes and frightful scare zones, “Halloween Horror Nights” will taunt, terrorize and torment guests with spine-chilling haunted attractions as part of Southern California’s most extreme Halloween experience.

Updates on “Halloween Horror Nights” at Universal Studios Hollywood are available online at HalloweenHorrorNights.com/Hollywood and on Facebook at: “Halloween Horror Nights – Hollywood,” Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter at @HorrorNights as Creative Director John Murdy reveals a running chronicle of exclusive information.
