I.G.I. Franchise to Return in 2021

Stockholm, Sweden March 19, 2019 – Toadman Interactive is pleased to announce that the third game in the I.G.I. franchise will be released during 2021.

The title is a tactical stealth FPS and a prequel to the previous games that will uncover the origin story of the I.G.I. organization. Toadman has started the development of the game and is now in the prototyping stage. The team is really excited to have one of the original creators on board for the development and is looking forward to being able to share more as development continues.

I.G.I. was originally released in 2000 and the first two games sold over a million units combined. The games were developed by Innerloop Studios and the first game was published by Eidos Interactive, the second by Codemasters.

”I’m so psyched to announce that the prototyping is going well and we already have a fun base game to play in the studio. Today, we are releasing a teaser showing a glimpse of our prototyping and many things will improve as we continue the development. The reason we are sending out this update is so that we can allow enthusiasts to provide ideas and feedback when we are in the early stages of development. We want to hear from you fans to make sure you get to see the most out of this game,” said Robin Flodin, CEO of Toadman Interactive.

Knott’s Boysenberry Festival Tasting Event 2019

The Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival starts on March 29, 2019 and runs through April 28, 2019 – just under one month of Boysenberry-flavored fun. Recently, we were invited to Knott’s Berry Farm for a tasting event to sample the various Boysenberry goods guests will encounter once the festival begins. We arrived at the park just prior to our check in time and got escorted to the Wilderness Dance Hall (which is often the home to various goodies for their seasonal events). It also used to be the home of some great Knott’s Scary Farm mazes, but I digress… We walked into the Wilderness Dance Hall and found a variety of food and drink stations, while in the center of the hall sat a table with everything laid out for photographs.

The two feet long hot dog

I was absolutely blown away by the various items for sampling. All were very tasty and I didn’t find one “dud” among them. The boysenberry sausage and elote were amazing while the boysenberry-infused jambalaya was spicy yet-sweet. I even liked the boysenberry boba drink which I initially thought would be too sweet. In addition, Yogurtland has teamed up with Knott’s to host a boysenberry frozen yogurt flavor – talk about synergy! I tried the vanilla/boysenberry swirl flavor and absolutely loved it. Boysenberry can be rather strong on its own and is often best served along with something else. Vanilla is great as it adds an overall smoothness to the coupling. Along with the various good offerings, there were a number of wineries and breweries on-hand, allowing media to sample their wares which they thought paired best with the food at their station.

Boysenberry Elote

There were a couple items on display that we did not get a chance to taste – things like the two feet long hot dog and “The Berry Beast”, a sandwich with pork loin, bacon, onions, and boysenberry. Both items looked amazing and I am anxious to try them on the full Boysenberry Festival media day later this month. It was an absolutely gigantic sandwich that I can only pray will fit in my belly! Unlike past years, I could not find ONE item I disliked. Everything was at least “good”, with many being what I would call “very good”. I was craving more of that jambalaya for the rest of the night.

The Berry Beast on Display

Aside from the food and drink stations, the tasting event had a table with the various Boysenberry Festival merchandise that will be sold during the event. Pins, socks, shirts, patches, and more all too center stage at this table. I was especially interested in the commemorative pin and patch set – although I could see myself wearing some Boysenberry Festival socks to work… We shall see how much I spend on merchandise for the media day. There was also a small tasting area on this table for boysenberry fudge which was amazing. It was located at this table because, technically, it will be made at the candy shop in the park’s Ghost Town area.

Overall, the food and drink options of the Knott’s Boysenberry Festival will be sure to delight and satiate hungry guests once it opens its doors on March 29th. You can find ticket information, park hours, and more over at the Knott’s Berry Farm website.

Plantronics Rebrands as Poly

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – March 18, 2019 – Plantronics, Inc. (NYSE: PLT) (“Poly”), today announced that the company will transform into Poly, a technology company focused on the human experience of communications and collaboration, aiming to make communication as rich and natural as in-person.

Poly, which means “many,” leverages the legendary audio and video expertise of Plantronics and Polycom and its breadth of smart endpoints that connect across and between unified communications platforms to reduce the distractions, complexity, and distance in the modern workspace. Poly aims to be the solution of choice whenever and wherever collaboration clouds reach people.

“Today feels like my first day as CEO of a new company,” said Joe Burton, president and chief executive officer, Poly. “We see limitless opportunity for how people communicate and collaborate today. With advancements in AI, machine learning and new technologies, we see a future where Poly makes the connection, then quietly steps out of the way to become the one thing you don’t notice in the meeting.”

Poly will focus on four distinct areas of innovation:

  • Making workspaces intuitively work for everyone. The modern open office has introduced distraction and noise into the work place, leading to lower productivity and employee satisfaction. Poly offers solutions today to address audible distraction in open spaces as well as technologies that make huddle rooms as powerful as traditional board rooms.
  • Helping people collaborate, their way. People are now using three or more collaboration solutions in a given day and need endpoints that work with and across those solutions. Poly  offers a wide range of solutions to meet this growing need.
  • Designing solutions that are mobile-first for the modern workforce. Whether it is using a personal smart phone as a “business phone” or navigating through a day where personal and business blend, workers need voice and video capabilities that move with them. Poly’s recently announced Elara 60 recognizes this is the new normal and joins Poly’s award-winning mobile headsets to give people high quality tools to be productive from anywhere.
  • Advancing cloud services that help IT pros and users get more out of their devices. As the macro trend of end user empowerment continues, IT pros are more challenged to know what is being used, and where. Poly is focused on making easy-to-use solutions also easy to manage.

The Poly logo honors the company’s new path forward as well as its legacy: its lava red color and angle of letters form a propeller to reflect Plantronics 60-year aviation lineage while its three legs are inspired by the design of Polycom’s iconic conference phone.

“Our new brand represents the many elements of our history that we bring together to enable people to work the way we all work now, which is anywhere and across multiple collaboration tools,” said Amy Barzdukas, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, Poly. “No other company has as many communications devices and services that we offer across any platform of choice, and the true power will be in how we bring them together so people can do more.”

New Solutions, Demonstrated Hands-On

Starting today at Enterprise Connect 2019, Poly is unveiling new products and services to realize the company vision. Visitors to the Poly booth (#713) will have a chance to meet with executives to learn more about the new company and its latest offerings, which include:

  • Polycom Studio, an easy-to-use video USB bar that upgrades huddle rooms to business class and works with services like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype for Business, Google Meet, Cisco Webex, or Amazon Chime.
  • Plantronics Elara 60 Series, the mobile phone station designed for the increasingly mobile-first worker and provides users with a one-touch Microsoft Teams experience.
  • Eagle Eye Cube, a video conference camera with 4k sensors for crystal clear image quality as well as rich sound to upgrade meetings in small to mid-sized rooms. Eagle Eye Cube is designed to work with many existing solutions including Polycom Trio with VisualPro and Group Series.
  • Blackwire 7225, an intuitive UC headset designed for concentration in open offices with a sleek, boomless design. Blackwire 7225’s active noise cancellation allows for focus so people can work, listen to music and sound professional on calls from a PC or Mac.
  • The Plantronics Status Indicator, a wired presence indicator that sits on your desktop and connects with whatever communications platform you’re using to let others know if you are available, on a call or away from your desk. Visual and audio alerts sound for messages and calls.
  • Plantronics headsets and Polycom phones provide end users ‘better together’ functionality, allowing basic and advanced headset features to be easily changed directly from the desk phone touch screen interface, without the need for a connected PC.
  • The latest version of Plantronics Manager Pro, v3.13, that gives IT pros the confidence of knowing what devices they have, what’s working, and what’s not – and what to do about it.
  • Polycom Device Management Service for Enterprises, which now supports and manages Polycom Studio as well as added API functions for better control and management of large deployments.

Poly encourages partners and customers to share what they want to see in their communications technology both at Enterprise Connect and on Poly’s social channels: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Crytek Unveils CRYENGINE Neon Noir Tech Demo

FRANKFURT, Germany – March 15, 2019 – Crytek has released a new video demonstrating the results of a CRYENGINE research and development project. Neon Noir shows how real-time mesh ray-traced reflections and refractions can deliver highly realistic visuals for games. The Neon Noir demo was created with the new advanced version of CRYENGINE’s Total Illumination showcasing real time ray tracing. This feature will be added to the CRYENGINE release roadmap in 2019, enabling developers around the world to build more immersive scenes, more easily, with a production-ready version of the feature.

Neon Noir follows the journey of a police drone investigating a crime scene. As the drone descends into the streets of a futuristic city, illuminated by neon lights, we see its reflection accurately displayed in the windows it passes by, or scattered across the shards of a broken mirror while it emits a red and blue lighting routine that will bounce off the different surfaces utilizing CRYENGINE’s advanced Total Illumination feature. Demonstrating further how ray tracing can deliver a lifelike environment, neon lights are reflected in the puddles below them, street lights flicker on wet surfaces, and windows reflect the scene opposite them accurately.

Neon Noir was developed on a bespoke version of CRYENGINE 5.5., and the experimental ray tracing feature based on CRYENGINE’s Total Illumination used to create the demo is both API and hardware agnostic, enabling ray tracing to run on most mainstream, contemporary AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. However, the future integration of this new CRYENGINE technology will be optimized to benefit from performance enhancements delivered by the latest generation of graphics cards and supported APIs like Vulkan and DX12.

Ray tracing is a rendering technique that simulates complex lighting behaviors. Realism is achieved by simulating the propagation of discreet fractions of energy and their interaction with surfaces. With contemporary GPUs, ray tracing has become more widely adopted by real-time applications like video games, in combination with traditionally less resource hungry rendering techniques like cube maps, utilized where applicable.

The experimental ray tracing feature simplifies and automates the rendering and content creation process to ensure that animated objects and changes in lighting are correctly reflected with a high level of detail in real-time. This eliminates the known limitation of pre-baked cube maps and local screen space reflections when creating smooth surfaces like mirrors, and allows developers to create more realistic, consistent scenes. To showcase the benefits of real time ray tracing, screen space reflections were not used in this demo.

Developers everywhere can harness the power of CRYENGINE by visiting www.cryengine.com.
