XCOM: Chimera Squad Announced

New York, NY – April 14, 2020 – 2K today announced that XCOM®: Chimera Squad, an all- new standalone title in the award-winning, turn-based, XCOM tactical series, is currently scheduled to release digitally for Windows PC on April 24, 2020, with a special limited-time introductory price of $9.99.

Set five years after the events of XCOM 2, humans, hybrids and aliens are now working together to forge a civilization of cooperation and co-existence. However, not all of Earth’s inhabitants support the interspecies alliance. City 31, a model of peace in a post-invasion world, is opposed by mysterious groups whose agendas threaten to shatter this delicate interspecies alliance. Chimera Squad, an elite force of human, hybrid and alien agents, must work together to destroy the underground threats driving the city toward chaos.

“We’re inspired by our passionate community and excited by the opportunity to create a dynamic, innovative, and unique XCOM experience for both fans of our games and new players in XCOM: Chimera Squad,” said Steve Martin, President at Firaxis Games.

“With XCOM: Chimera Squad, we felt there were exciting gameplay opportunities yet to be discovered within the XCOM universe,” said Mark Nauta, Lead Designer at Firaxis Games. “Gameplay like Breach Mode, interleaved turn order, and the introduction of agents as fully fleshed-out characters will revolutionize how the game plays while still retaining the combat experience that makes the XCOM series so loved by gaming communities around the world.”

XCOM: Chimera Squad includes the following features:

  • Unique Alien and Human Agents: Each of the 11 agents have their own distinct personality and tactical abilities, including species-specific attacks like the Viper’s tongue pull;
  • Specialized and Complementary Classes: Execute devastating combos by teaming the right agents and utilizing cooperative actions. The difference between mission success and failure can depend wholly on team composition;
  • Re-Envisioned Tactical Combat: Missions are structured as a series of discrete, explosive encounters, keeping the action intense and unpredictable;
  • Breach Mode: Players will shape the battlefield to their advantage with a new combat phase that injects squads right into action. They will strategically assign agents to different entry points and coordinate their assault plans with a range of Breach-specific skills;
  • Interleaved Turns: An automatic initiative system will slot individual agents and enemies into an alternating turn order, creating new strategic possibilities based on what unit is queued to act next – and what unit is at the greatest risk when they do so;
  • Suspenseful Strategy Layer: Outside of combat, players will manage the operations of a high-tech HQ, where they must prioritize competing tasks, investigations and agent assignments in the face of a ticking clock: the constantly rising unrest in the city’s various districts, driving City 31 closer and closer to total anarchy.

As part of 2K’s XCOM franchise sale that will celebrate the support of its global community, XCOM: Chimera Squad will be available at launch as a single digital download for Windows PC on Steam at the special limited-time introductory price of $9.99. It will be available at its suggested retail price of $19.99 on May 1, 2020.

“We know fans have been eager to dive back into the world of XCOM,” said Melissa Bell, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Marketing at 2K. “XCOM: Chimera Squad offers tremendous value and we’re intentionally lowering the barriers of entry for new fans to the franchise with a game XCOM veterans will really enjoy.”

World of Warships: Legends Gets Russian Destroyers and Battleships

AUSTIN, TX (April 9, 2020) – A new update for World of Warships: Legends brings the release of Russian Destroyers and appearance of Russian Battleships in early access and more on April 13. After a few weeks of duck-infused hilarity, World of Warships: Legends is back to more serious waters, introducing two new Campaigns, two new seasons of Ranked Battles, and a host of new features. This update is filled to the brim, let’s check it out.

The Russian Destroyers are now fully released, meaning players can research their way through them to the Tier VII Tashkent. These ships are quite interesting, unlike most destroyers, they focus their abilities as a gunboat rather than stealth and torpedo armament. Like the Russian Cruisers, they have flat-shooting guns designed to work best at their maximum range. Staying at this range works well for the destroyers, giving them time to dodge incoming fire with their tremendous speed. After adding in some short-ranged torpedoes, the Russian gunboats are perfect for high-risk, high-reward gameplay.

Speaking of high-risk, high-reward, the Russian Battleships are here in early access, due to be fully released with next update. They bring heavy red artillery to the sea, and will contest the German battleships for the spot of best brawler. The guns on these brawlers are only accurate at close range and they are heavily armored, making them great at pushing the enemy. However, they will take massive damage if caught broadside, so careful positioning is required! Players will be able to sail these behemoths by opening Soviet crates, which can be earned in the campaigns.

There are two new campaigns coming with this update: “To Tame A Dreadnought” and “The Heroic Oleg.” The first campaign will run until May 4 and features the Russian commander Mikhail Kedrov as the final reward. Kedrov was historically the captain of the battleship Gangut during World War One and now brings his experience to help players tame the Russian Battleships in World of Warships: Legends. “The Heroic Oleg” campaign starts just after “To Tame A Dreadnought” and has the cruiser Oleg as the crown jewel. The Oleg is a handsome old-fashioned protected cruiser that was one of the few Russian survivors of the Battle of Tsushima. Both campaigns are packed with rewards, including Soviet crates that give players a shot at getting one of the new battleships.

Ranked battles reappear for two more sprints, returning to the shorter seasons based on player feedback. Players will be able to battle through for extra rewards, season exclusive patches and some Soviet crates. Plus, there are a couple new features coming to the game! First, there is now a Photo mode in the port for players to take beauty shots of their favorite ships. There is also an option to have the commanders speak in their mother-tongues now, and a bigger scale HUD option for smaller screens.

There’s a ton coming to World of Warships: Legends, and more is on the way!

GoPro Unveils Live Streaming Tips and Tutorial

One of the fun and very useful options of GoPro‘s HERO 8 Black, MAX, and HERO 7 Black cameras is their ability to live stream via the GoPro smartphone app. Currently, the GoPro app can stream to Facebook, Youtube, Twitch, Vimeo, and several other video services. They can even give you reaction and engagement info while you’re streaming. You can checkout their full rundown of how to do it at their official blog as well as the video below.

Best of all about this announcement is that the GoPro app can be updated as needed to add new functionality down the road. You’re not locked into just one featureset – also, they can roll out app updates right through the respective phone’s app store.

The big wish I would have in this application of the camera would be to have the ability to stream to Instagram. GoPro seems interested as well, as the blog explains that it will be compatible once Instagram allows it (although there is no date or estimated time for this mentioned).

Beholder 2 Official Launch Trailer

April 9, 2020 – E-Home Entertainment and Warm Lamp Games bring you Beholder 2 on Xbox One today for $14.99. Playing as Evan Redgrave, a low-level Ministry worker, you are on a mission to unravel the circumstances surrounding your father’s mysterious suicide by rising through the ranks of the totalitarian government. Whether you choose to help your colleagues in covert missions to bring down the totalitarian state or ruthlessly destroy everyone in your path in order to climb the Ministry ladder, your decisions will have consequences that change the end of Evan Redgrave’s story.

“Beholder has been an important series to us, as it examines the relationship between government structures and individual freedom,” said Yiying Xu, Marketing Manager for E-Home Entertainment. “These themes are timeless and universal, but seem especially topical right now. We want people to think about how government regulations influence individual behavior, and the feedback loop that emanates from this. We think Beholder 2 explores these issues in a nuanced way, and look forward to Xbox players getting to try it for themselves.”

To commemorate this launch, E-Home Entertainment has released a brand new trailer showcasing Beholder 2’s oppressive atmosphere. Get a glimpse at the Ministry’s machinations, as Evan navigates this labyrinthine bureaucratic stronghold where he’s always in danger of running afoul of his despotic government overlords. And it goes without saying that tyrants don’t take kindly to insurgents.

Following in the footsteps of the critically acclaimed Beholder, the sequel follows a different story from that of Carl the Landlord, placing you in the shoes of new protagonist Evan Redgrave, a Ministry intern whose father – the former head of Department 6, committed suicide under mysterious circumstances while working at the Ministry. In order to get to the bottom of how and why he died, you’ll have to do whatever it takes to ascend the ranks of the Ministry to secure strict security clearance and gain access to the totalitarian leaders. How you eliminate your competitors is up to you. Do you help your colleagues to overthrow the totalitarian state ensuring they give up their current positions on good terms? Or would you prefer to ruthlessly tear down everyone in your path by framing and manipulating people into an early “retirement”? Once you reach the top you will learn about your father’s death as well as other sinister and shocking government secrets.

In addition to your career goals, you must complete various side tasks that will emerge based on your choices. Help your coworkers on their quests, humiliate others upon request, or find victims suitable for the baleful needs of those in charge. By completing these side missions you can earn money and reputation, both of which you’ll need on your path to promotion. The fate of the country and of Evan Redgrave are now in your hands.

RØDE Microphones Wireless GO Range Expansion

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: Wednesday, April 8, 2020 — Australian pro audio powerhouse RØDE Microphones is proud to announce an exciting expansion of the Wireless GO range.

Introducing the Wireless GO White, Lavalier GO White, Interview GO, and MagClip GO, four new additions to the ecosystem set to unlock a new world of creative possibilities for wireless audio users. The world’s most versatile wireless microphone just got a whole lot more versatile.

WHAT IS THE WIRELESS GO?

Unveiled to widespread acclaim at NAB 2019, the Wireless GO is an ultra-compact digital wireless microphone system that has since become the go-to for vloggers, run ‘n’ gun filmmakers, journalists and more.

Featuring a transmitter pack with an in-built omnidirectional condenser capsule, the Wireless GO launched as the world’s first truly wireless microphone system, entirely unique in its clip ‘n’ go versatility. There is also a 3.5mm input for connecting an external microphone like the RØDE Lavalier GO for even greater flexibility.

The receiver features a dual-purpose mount that sits snug in a camera cold shoe or clips securely onto clothing or a camera strap. Audio is sent to the receiver using RØDE’s Series III 2.4GHz digital wireless transmission that delivers crystal-clear sound over 70m line-of-sight and is designed to excel in locations with dense Wi-Fi and Bluetooth activity. There is also a three-stage pad for tailoring the mic output to a camera or recorder and a bright LED screen for monitoring levels and battery life.

All of this is packed into an incredibly tiny form factor – both the transmitter and receiver are super lightweight, weighing a minuscule 31g each, making it the perfect microphone for anyone from vloggers using compact smartphone rigs to filmmakers looking for a discreet, hassle-free wireless audio solution.

KEY FEATURES OF THE WIRELESS GO

  • Uniquely versatile – transmitter can be used as a discreet clip-on microphone or as a compact belt pack for a lavalier microphone.
  • Ultra-compact, super-lightweight form factor – 44mm x 45.3mm x 18.5mm (transmitter), 44mm x 46.4mm x 18.5mm (receiver), 31g each.
  • Incredible sound – Series III 2.4GHz digital wireless transmission and broadcast-grade condenser capsule deliver crystal-clear audio in a wide variety of applications.
  • Extremely easy to use – pairs automatically in seconds, no complicated set up involved, quick and easy to mount on talent.
  • Designed and made in Australia from the highest quality components in RØDE’s state-of-the-art facilities in Sydney.
  • Very affordable!

WIRELESS GO & LAVALIER GO WHITE

With its ultra-compact form factor and sleek black finish, the Wireless GO blends seamlessly with dark clothing and environments, making it very inconspicuous in most recording scenarios. However, against white clothing and in lighter environments, it’s not so easily concealed. Enter the Wireless GO White.

The Wireless GO White is the world’s first white compact wireless microphone system, perfect for filmmakers whose subjects regularly wear light clothing, wedding videographers, and business professionals. It boasts all the same features as the black Wireless GO, only the colour of the transmitter and receiver has changed – even the included furry windshields are white!

For those who prefer using a lavalier microphone with their Wireless GO, the Lavalier GO (sold separately) also now comes in white. The Lavalier GO is a professional-grade wearable microphone designed to perform brilliantly in any broadcast application – the perfect companion for the Wireless GO.

INTERVIEW GO

The Interview GO is an adaptor that instantly turns the Wireless GO transmitter into a lightweight wireless handheld mic for reporting to-camera or interviewing in the field. It features a sturdy attachment for the Wireless GO’s cold shoe clip to secure the mic in place, plus a high-density windshield for reducing plosives and protecting the capsule from wind when recording outdoors.

MAGCLIP GO

The MagClip GO is a powerful magnetic clip that allows for total flexibility when placing the Wireless GO transmitter on talent. Simply slip the magnet under a piece of clothing opposite where you need to place the transmitter. This allows you to get the clearest recording possible no matter what kind of clothing your subject is wearing. It can even be used to place the mic discreetly on an object in a scene or on a stage to capture dialogue.

“This expansion of the Wireless GO range is the product of 12 months of listening to user feedback and seeing what creators need and want,” says RØDE CEO Damien Wilson. “We are always in tune with how our products are being used and who is using them, and we constantly push ourselves to create new products that inspire and encourage creativity. Keep an eye on the Wireless GO range in the coming months, there’s more to come…”
