Marvel’s Avengers All-Access Weekend Announced

Today, SQUARE ENIX® announced that Marvel’s Avengers will be available to play at no cost on PlayStation, PC (via Steam), and Stadia from July 29th to August 1st as a celebration of the start of the summer blockbuster season and to mark the permanent launch of the multiple-hero feature in the game. The popular multiple-hero feature first debuted as a part of the Tachyon Anomaly event in April and allows players to form teams online with more than one of the same Super Hero for any multiplayer mission, facilitating faster and easier matchmaking.

A similar all-access opportunity on Xbox consoles will be available in the coming months.

During the all-access weekend, anyone interested in checking out the full game* just needs to download it from their platform’s digital store. After the all-access period ends, players who buy the game will carry over all progress and purchases on the same platform they enjoyed during the all-access weekend.

“There’s never been a better time to assemble in Marvel’s Avengers. We’re nearing our one-year anniversary, and players who jump in will get eight heroes, tons of single- and multi-player content, ongoing events, and more,” said Scot Amos, Co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. “In addition, we have the War for Wakanda expansion coming in August, so now is a great opportunity to get started so you’re ready to play as Black Panther and take on Klaw with the rest of the Avengers.”

The all-access weekend will be available on PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, PC (via Steam), and Stadia in all regions where the game is available. During the all-access weekend, all elements of Marvel’s Avengers will be available, including the epic Reassemble campaign, the ongoing Avengers Initiative, and the Kate Bishop and Hawkeye Operations.

“We’re working closely with our partners at Xbox to find the right time for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players to get their all-access opportunity and will have more information about that soon,” added Amos.

STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS Season 2 Trailer and Comic-Con@Home Panel

Paramount+, the streaming service from ViacomCBS, today released the official trailer for season two of its hit original half-hour animated comedy series, STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS. The official trailer was revealed during the series’ Comic-Con@Home virtual panel.

The STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS season two virtual panel was part of the overall “Star Trek” Universe panel, which kicked off Paramount+’s Comic-Con@Home “Peak” Animation programming block, showcasing the service’s upcoming animated series. The “Star Trek” Universe panel also included STAR TREK: PRODIGY.

Moderated by Jerry O’Connell (“Commander Jack Ransom”), the STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS panel featured a conversation with voice cast members Tawny Newsome (“Ensign Mariner”), Jack Quaid (“Ensign Boimler”) and Eugene Cordero (“Ensign Rutherford”), as well as series creator, showrunner and executive producer, Mike McMahan, and a special greeting from Noël Wells (“Ensign Tendi”).

Developed by Emmy Award winner Mike McMahan (“Rick and Morty,” “Solar Opposites”), season two of STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS is bigger, funnier and Star Trekkier than ever before. Fans can expect strange new (and familiar) aliens to challenge the crews of the U.S.S. Cerritos and the U.S.S. Titan. For Mariner, Tendi, Rutherford and Boimler, the animated adventure is just beginning.

In addition to the Lower Deckers, the Starfleet characters that comprise the U.S.S. Cerritos’ bridge crew include Captain Carol Freeman, voiced by Dawnn Lewis, Commander Jack Ransom, voiced by Jerry O’Connell, and Doctor T’Ana, voiced by Gillian Vigman.

The series is produced by CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, CBS Studios’ new animation arm; Secret Hideout; and Roddenberry Entertainment. Secret Hideout’s Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin, Roddenberry Entertainment’s Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth and Katie Krentz (219 Productions) serve as executive producers alongside creator and showrunner Mike McMahan. Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout), who brought McMahan to the project, also serves as an executive producer. Titmouse (“Big Mouth”), the Emmy Award-winning independent animation production company, serves as the animation studio for the series.

STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS streams exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and is distributed concurrently by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group on Amazon Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Japan, India and more. In Canada, it airs on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave. Seasons one and two of STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS will be available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ in Latin America beginning in September 2021.

The series is produced by CBS Eye Animation Productions, CBS Studios’ new animation arm, in association with 219 Productions. Titmouse (“Big Mouth”), the Emmy Award-winning independent animation production company, serves as the animation studio for the series.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Comic-Con @ Home Panel

With DC’s Legends of Tomorrow still zigging through space and zagging through time this summer in season six, the cast — including Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, Olivia Swann, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Matt Ryan — plus executive producers/co-showrunners Keto Shimizu and Phil Klemmer took a well-deserved breather and led a wonderfully weird Legends panel at Comic Con@Home today to discuss latest developments on the fan-favorite show from Warner Bros. Television for The CW.

Series star Caity Lotz introduced the panel with a sneak peek at a trailer which featured an exclusive look at the remainder of the show’s sixth season — think bowling, board games, aliens, weddings, magic mushrooms, and a whole lot of dark drama involving John Constantine.

In the midst of all the joking and fun, there were, naturally, a few “legendary” reveals:

First up: Matt Ryan and John Constantine. Phil Klemmer revealed that “while John Constantine’s arc on the show is coming to an end in season six, Matt Ryan’s journey with the Legends is not over.” In season seven, Ryan will be back as a series regular, and he will play a new original role: Dr. Gwyn Davies, an eccentric scientist from the early 20th century who might be the team’s only hope next season.

Matt Ryan said: “As everyone who loves him knows, in the end, John Constantine will walk his path alone. The time has come for John to part ways with the Legends, and for me to part ways with John. I’m really excited to be creating this new role on the show and having some fun with it — discovering how this new character fits in and causes some trouble for the Legends.”

Also, joining the Legends in season seven will be Amy Louise Pemberton, who has voiced Gideon, the Waverider’s AI, for all six seasons as a series regular. Pemberton has appeared as the AI’s physical form a handful of times, but she will now portray a flesh-and-blood version of Gideon in the real world.

Lastly, Legends fans will now have the opportunity to immerse themselves even further into the series’ musical craziness with a 21-track “Mixtape” of the show’s most memorable musical moments. Whether it’s the David Bowie–inspired “Space Girl” from the current season, or Brandon Routh’s “Mr. Parker’s Cul-De-Sac” from season five, or any of the cast performances of “Puppets of Tomorrow,” “I Surrender,” or “Sweet Baby James,” fans can find their favorites on the “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Mixtape (Songs from the Original Television Soundtrack).” Available on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, Amazon, and more, the album will be released on August 20, 2021.

Airing Sundays at 8/7c on The CW, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, Olivia Swann, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez, Amy Louise Pemberton, with Nick Zano, and Dominic Purcell. Special appearances by Matt Ryan. Produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is based on the characters from DC and has been renewed for a seventh season. Executive producers for season six are Greg Berlanti, Phil Klemmer, Sarah Schechter, Keto Shimizu, Grainne Godfree, and James Eagan.

Arrow Video August Release Lineup

Arrow Video has unveiled its August lineup of video launches! “As we enter the dog days of summer, Arrow continues to turn up the heat. On August 3rd, Arrow will kick things off with the release of The Sergio Martino Collection. This 3-disc set features three classic films from one of Italy’s most celebrated genre filmmakers. George Hilton stars as an insurance investigator trying to get to the bottom of a strange string of murders in The Case of the Scorpion’s Tail. This early ’70s giallo effort was praised by The Terror Trap as “one of Martino’s best crime thrillers and validates the notion that the director is indeed capable of creating high-intensity nailbiting moments.” Next, Martino takes on Edgar Allen Poe in the wonderfully titled Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key. Martino borrows elements from Poe’s “The Black Cat” to craft this tale of a series of murders around the estate of a degenerate author and his wife. In The Suspicious Death of a Minor, the murder of a prostitute leads to the discovery of a trafficking ring with ties to powerful people. All three films come with 2K restorations from the original camera negatives.

On August 24th, Arrow will release two titles. First up is 1969’s Blind Beast. This story of a blind sculptor that kidnaps a young model with the help of his mother comes courtesy of director Yasuzô Masumura. Dubbed a “fascinating curiosity” by Sight & Sound and “continually astonishing” by SFX magazine, Blind Beast is a strange slice of erotic horror from one of post-war Japan’s most important filmmakers. Also coming from Arrow on August 24 is the UHD 4K release of Dario Argento’s classic giallo starring Academy Award winner, Karl Malden, The Cat O’ Nine Tails. A newspaper reporter and a retired journalist work together to get to the bottom of a series of killings in the director’s second effort. This straight forward murder-mystery offers an early glimpse into the style and technique that would later become Argento trademarks.

Arrow brings the month to a close with two titles on August 31st. A cult of senior citizens recruits the children of a desert town to worship Satan in director Bernard McEveety’s The Brotherhood of Satan. This low-budget horror entry was notable for giving theater patrons a packet of seeds during its original theatrical run. The seeds were labeled as “Satan’s soul” and claimed to offer protection “from the Black Magic of The Brotherhood of Satan.”

The month’s final title, also hitting on August 31st, is David Lynch’s Dune. One of the legendary director’s most polarizing films, this controversial adaptation of Frank Herbert’s beloved novel has acheived indisputable cult classic status over the years. There is no denying that it is a spectacle to behold with a wonderful cast, and it arrives just ahead of the new blockbuster remake. Arrow presents the film with a brand new 4K restoration on both limited edition Blu-ray and UHD 4K Blu-ray.”
