Alan Wake Remastered Announced

Today, Remedy Entertainment announced Alan Wake Remastered, a fully remastered version of the 2010 classic. Presented by Epic Games Publishing, Alan Wake Remastered will feature the complete Alan Wake experience – including the main game and two expansions, The Signal and The Writer – in all-new rendered 4K visuals, as well as new commentary from creative director Sam Lake.

Alan Wake Remastered will launch in fall 2021, and will be available on PC on the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4/Pro, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X. With the original game having launched on Xbox 360 and arriving on PC a few years later, this will be the first time ever that Alan Wake will be available to PlayStation users. For existing fans of the game, it’s an opportunity to experience the best version of Alan Wake yet.

Remedy also did something a bit unorthodox to reveal Alan Wake Remastered. This morning, Remedy’s Sam Lake announced the game with an open letter on The Sudden Stop, a fan-run community website that’s been covering Alan Wake and Remedy since 2012. Given the incredible support Remedy receives from their players (including nearly a decade of dedication from The Sudden Stop), the studio wanted to shine the “flashlight” on the fans and give this announcement to one of their most passionate communities.

Additional Information:

  • In this award-winning cinematic action-thriller, troubled author Alan Wake embarks on a desperate search for his missing wife, Alice. Following her mysterious disappearance from the Pacific Northwest town of Bright Falls, he begins to discover pages of a horror story he has supposedly written, but has no memory of.
  • Wake is forced to question his sanity as, page by page, the horror story comes true before his eyes. A hostile supernatural presence is taking over everyone it finds, turning them against him.
  • He has no choice but to confront the forces of darkness with the beam of his flashlight, a handgun and what remains of his shredded mind. His nightmare journey to find answers will take him into the terrifying depths of night.
  • The tense, episodic story is packed with unexpected twists, heart-stopping cliff hangers, and intense bursts of combat where it takes more than bullets to banish the darkness. The game’s cutscenes, quirky cast of characters, and majestic Pacific Northwest vistas have been enhanced for a visual impact that matches its unnerving atmosphere.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous Review – An Incredible CRPG Experience

Tabletop role-playing games have seen a boon in recent years due in no small part to web series like Critical Role, YouTube channels like XP to Level 3, and a host of new source material coming out of companies like Paizo and Wizards of the Coast. For those of you who haven’t heard of Pathfinder, its Paizo’s take on a tabletop RPG system. Unlike Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition which sort of “streamlines” a lot of the tactical choices players make with building and running their characters, Pathfinder is more dice and stat focused – a welcome change of pace for many RPG gamers (there’s an RPG system for everyone’s tastes these days and that’s terrific). Given this increased complexity, it is no wonder that many PC gamers were a bit lost when playing the first Pathfinder game from 2018, Pathfinder: Kingmaker. The game, while very deep, rich, and complicated, didn’t have a low enough barrier of entry for those more mainstream gamers looking to dip their toes into the CRPG waters. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, is a sequel to Kingmaker, and improves upon everything that Kingmaker fell short in while not sacrificing its rich, deep narrative elements.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous begins with character creation. There are several pre-made characters you can choose from – or – you can take a stab at building your own personal character. Welcome to Pathfinder – there are SO many classes, sub-classes, and races to choose from your head will spin (but, in a good way if you are like me). You can really tweak your hero to be exactly the kind you want and you can spend quite a while doing so. It is a terrific character builder and, despite the amount of content to get through, is fairly easy to navigate. After the character creation is completed, you begin your journey…

The first part of the game sees your character in need of assistance and, well… I actually won’t be spoiling what happens in the game for you in this article. There are plenty of game walkthroughs and spoiler-filled reviews online that you can seek out if you like. Instead, I’ll focus on the gameplay for now. Playing Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous will be a familiar experience to those of your who played CRPGs in the past. The game is presented in an isometric style view where you can rotate and zoom in around the game world and your party as you quest. Graphically, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is a beautiful CRPG – the visuals are crisp and effects rich. The voice acting is also extremely professional and a welcome addition to what can be quite a bit of reading text in dialog windows. From the standpoint of its presentation alone, Wrath of the Righteous is incredible – and that’s not to mention the rest of the things that make up the game.

Along your journey, you will take on new quests (organized in a quest journal which was one of the weaker parts of the game), meet potential party members, and potential villains to fight. Combat is a thing of beauty in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Owlcat Games and Paizo have seen fit to give options for real-time, real-time with pause, AND turn-based tactical play! You can also switch between these modes as you like – which is handy when you are facing off against a lot of low-level enemies and just need to cut them down quickly. The turn-based mode was easily my favorite as it reminded me a lot of the tabletop Pathfinder experience. There is also a huge variety of items and equipment in the game to be bought and/or looted! You can really trick out each of your party members the way you prefer. Speaking of your party members – they come in pre-made form and you can have the game auto select their level up options if you prefer – this can be a good option for new gamers. You can also choose to manually guide them through the level up process and even multi-class them if you like. A quick detour back to the previously-mentioned quest journal – it was weak as it didn’t allow a broad enough filtering system for the quests held within. I would like to have the option to see quests filtered by location and have clear prompts on what to do next. That part of the experience still needs a bit of enhancement.

Unfortuately, there are quite a few bugs still needing to be worked out in the game. Despite this, it hasn’t detracted me from playing – I just save often so that I can reload a game if necessary – that’s how fun and good Wrath of the Righteous is! It is worth noting, however, that this is the case until Owlcat Games can patch them out of existence. Currently, game is out on the PC platform, but Owlcat Games has stated that Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous will be out on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on March 1, 2022 – which is great because console gamers can also share in the great RPG experience to be offered.

Overall, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is an outstanding CRPG that will delight both die-hard fans of the genre but also be accessible enough for newcomers. Wrath of the Righteous is beautiful, deep, and a lot of fun.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends Season 1 – Samhain Launch Trailer

Hood: Outlaws & Legends, the co-op PvPvE heist game from Sumo Digital and Focus Home Interactive, has announced that Season 1: Samhain is now available on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC. This new season of content comes complete with exciting new surprises, upgrades, bug fixes, and the newest sword-swinging outlaw: Eidaa.

You can try out Hood: Outlaws & Legends for free now on Steam until September 5! The game is also on sale for 40% off on Steam for a limited time.

Hood’s newest outlaw, Eidaa, is a talented skirmisher who brings both sword and sorcery to the field. As a hybrid character, Eidaa is capable of both dodging and parrying, but she has lower health than the other melee characters, so careful stamina management is key. Eidaa can replenish gearboxes to keep her team up, as well as set tar bombs to slow and damage enemies. Her ultimate is a magic shield that blocks enemy projectiles, perfect for locking down key sightlines and protecting objectives. Like the other outlaws, she comes with several cosmetics and perks to customize her look and feel in game!

Season 1: Samhain also introduces a new rework for the Winch System. The final fight to the finish will now be score-based, with a certain number of completed Notches required to win. But completing early-game objectives, like pickpocketing the Sheriff, opening the vault, and placing the chest, will grant you a significant head start, rewarding teams that work quickly and quietly throughout the heist.

Finally, Season 1 adds three maps for State Heist, Hood’s new PvE co-op mode. You can attack a fortified, snow-tipped keep in Mountain, battle across the cliffy shores of Coastal, and assault the swampy wetlands of Marshland. Hood’s first Battle Pass is also now live, and players can unlock a wide variety of new outlaw appearances, weapons, and banners.

And the Hood journey is just getting started! Since release, Focus and Sumo have been actively working on improving the game by listening carefully to community feedback to offer the best heist experience possible. The game has already received several gameplay updates and tweaks, and players can look forward to even more free content over this year.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends is out now on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC. You can also buy the game’s Year 1 Edition, which includes three post-launch Battle Passes. For more on Hood, visit www.focus-home.com/en-us/games/hood-outlaws-legends.
