Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Unveils Seven New Theaters

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema continues to expand with the announcement of seven new theaters and three new regions, including Chicago, Birmingham, and St. Louis. This expansion follows a record-breaking 2021 box office that brought the second-highest domestic opening of all time, SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, and which also saw massive Alamo Drafthouse results for films like LICORICE PIZZA, THE FRENCH DISPATCH, and THE GREEN KNIGHT.

These new theaters will join nearly 40 other Alamo Drafthouse locations in exhibiting the company’s diverse mix of blockbusters, indies, documentaries, foreign language films, repertory classics, and unique special events.

“We’re so thankful for the continued strength and recovery of the theater industry thanks to a packed slate of titles in 2022,” says Alamo Drafthouse CEO Shelli Taylor. “And we’re very eager to bring the unique Alamo Drafthouse experience to Chicago, St. Louis, Birmingham, and beyond.”

The months ahead are expected to continue the cinema industry’s rebound from 2020 closures, bringing long-anticipated blockbusters like THE BATMAN, DOCTOR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, and TOP GUN: MAVERICK. Additionally, it brings new films by filmmakers that hold special appeal to Alamo Drafthouse audiences, like Robert Eggers’ THE NORTHMAN, Jordan Peele’s NOPE, and EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE by Daniels.

“Curating a diverse mix of films and showcasing independent artists has always been a passion of ours,” says Alamo Drafthouse founder and Executive Chairman Tim League. “Expanding our reach into new cities allows us to celebrate these filmmakers with a wider audience.”

Each new location will feature state-of-the-art laser projection, immersive surround sound, and luxury recliners in all auditoriums. The new theaters will also continue Alamo Drafthouse’s commitment to preserving 35mm film, with St. Louis and Staten Island confirmed to offer the celebrated celluloid projection.

The company will also expand the “The Big Show” experience, their next-generation Premium Large Format theaters with a towering 66’ wide by 28’ tall curved screen with immersive Dolby Atmos audio technology. All of the new locations will be paired with separate full-service bars featuring craft cocktails, wine, and local craft beers on tap.

Staten Island, NY

Alamo Drafthouse continues to expand their footprint in NYC with the highly-anticipated Alamo Drafthouse Staten Island. This kung-fu-themed theater will feature 9 screens, 893 fully-reclining seats, 35mm projection, and the company’s acclaimed menu of appetizers, entrees, desserts, and full bar available for delivery to guests’ seats.

The new theater will also feature The Flying Guillotine bar, a collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan founder RZA. Similar to The House of Wax and The Press Room bars at their other NYC locations, The Flying Guillotine will be a celebration of a unique piece of cinema history, in this case, the history of martial arts films. In addition to the requisite beer, wine and craft cocktail program, The Flying Guillotine decor will draw inspiration from the pages of the recent Mondo Publishing release THESE FISTS BREAK BRICKS by Grady Hendrix and Chris Pogalli and feature numerous displays of martial arts memorabilia and posters. The bar will also feature an all-martial arts free-rental video store.

Alamo Drafthouse Staten Island is slated to open Spring 2022.

Chicago, IL

The company is also opening their first theater in Chicago with Alamo Drafthouse Wrigleyville. Opening in the Windy City has been a long-time goal for Alamo Drafthouse, and this new theater marks an important milestone for the company. The 6-screen theater will be located in the historic Wrigleyville neighborhood, directly across the street from the beloved Wrigley Field in the Addison And Clark development.

The company will be bringing its unique brand of cinema eateries to Chicago Fall 2022. Chicago cinephiles can even enter to win a year of unlimited free movies through Alamo Drafthouse’s monthly subscription service, Season Pass, along with free Cubs tickets. Arlington, VA

Following hot on the heels of the new Alamo Drafthouse DC Bryant Street, the company will be collaborating with franchise partners Cojeaux Cinemas, LLC once again on Alamo Drafthouse National Landing. The new 9-screen theater will be located in the Crystal City neighborhood of National Landing in Arlington, Virginia, and is expected to open Fall 2022. Cojeaux Cinemas, LLC also operates three other Alamo Drafthouse franchises in Virginia.

St. Louis, MO

The Gateway City will be joining the Alamo Drafthouse family with a 10-screen theater located at the City Foundry STL development in St. Louis’ Midtown district. The new Alamo Drafthouse St. Louis will be a collaboration with franchise partner St. Louis Alamo Movies, LLC and is expected to open Fall 2022.

Glendale, CO

With all three of the company’s other Denver-area theaters now reopened, Alamo Drafthouse is excited to announce a new Glendale, CO, location in the Glendale Entertainment District. The new 9-screen theater will be opening in collaboration with franchise partners Alamo GlenCo Theater, LLC near the end of 2023.

Grand Prairie, TX

Alamo Drafthouse has a new Grand Prairie, TX, location joining their six other DFW metroplex theaters. Alamo Drafthouse Grand Prairie will be a 10-screen theater from franchise partner Alamo Grand Prairie Bardin, LLC, with a planned opening in the beginning of 2024.

Birmingham, AL

Alamo Drafthouse is also headed to the Magic City with their first theater in Birmingham. The 9-screen Alamo Drafthouse Birmingham broke ground at the historic Powell Avenue Steam Plant in the city’s Parkside District on February 3rd, and is being brought to the new region by franchise partners Birmingham Alamo Movies, LLC. Birmingham residents can expect to enjoy Alamo Drafthouse’s unique cinema experience in Spring 2024. Future guests can keep up to date on the latest news by joining Alamo Victory. World War 3 Open Stress Test This Weekend

MY.GAMES and The Farm 51 invite everyone to participate in the Public Stress Test of their tactical online FPS World War 3 this upcoming weekend on Steam and the MY.GAMES Store. It will run from February 3 at 13:00 CET/12:00 GMT/04:00 PT/07:00 ET until February 7 at 13:00 CET/12:00 GMT/04:00 PT/07:00 ET.

World War 3 aims to offer a fully authentic tactical experience evocative of real warfare while still being accessible. The game features weapons modelled on those used by real militaries around the world. Realistic gameplay features like ballistics, physics, and full body awareness combine to create a truly authentic and immersive modern combat experience.

The World War 3 CBT launched last November and is available to players with Closed Beta packages and those who purchased the game during its initial Early Access release on Steam. The Public Stress Test will help prepare World War 3 for its Open Beta in March 2022.

During the Public Stress Test, players will be able to progress through the whole World War 3 Closed Beta, which includes full access to two modes and four maps: Team Deathmatch in Berlin and Warsaw, as well as Tactical Ops in Berlin, Warsaw, Moscow and Polyarny. Also, players who participate in World War 3 Public Stress Test between February 3 and February 7 will receive an exclusive reward – LWH Dark Helmet.

To acquire access to the Public Stress Test, players can download World War 3 for free from MY.GAMES on February 3 or request access on Steam. To participate, players will need a MY.GAMES account which will be automatically generated for Steam users when launching the game.

Players will have an option to keep all their progress made during the Public Stress Test and retain access to the game throughout the rest of the Closed Beta by purchasing CBT Packs. Starting with the OBT launch scheduled for March 2022, World War 3 will reset all player progress and switch to a free-to-play distribution model.

War Hospital Cinematic Trailer Released

NACON and the development studio Brave Lamb are pleased to release a new trailer for War Hospital, a survival and strategy game in which players oversee a field hospital during the Great War. The video features Major Henry Wells, who is facing the moral dilemmas that come with his role. War Hospital will release on PC and consoles in Q4 2022.

With this new cinematic trailer, players confront the harsh reality of war, where every choice is a fateful decision. In their role of attending to the sick and injured, players must choose the best way to treat soldiers’ war wounds by managing the means at their disposal. Most of these decisions have immediate consequences for the injured, and the terrible events that are part of daily life in the trenches are not always predictable. As well as treating patients, players will need to make difficult decisions that impact staff morale, resource availability, and sometimes even the course of history.

Thanks to the support that the British Imperial War Museums gave to the developers, the game faithfully reproduces the environment of the front and trenches, and features the authentic medical equipment available at the time.

War Hospital, a survival and real-time strategy game with unique RPG mechanics, deals with a theme that has rarely been approached until now. It is planned for release in Q4 2022.

WRC eSports Championship 2022 Season Starts on February 4th

NACON and its development studio KT Racing, in collaboration with WRC Promoter, are very pleased to announce the start of the 2022 eSports WRC Championship season! The competition, which will be the sixth consecutive season, will be run on WRC 10, the official video game of the FIA World Rally Championship and recognized as the best rally game of the year, available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation®5 and PlayStation®4.

2022 eSports WRC calendar revealed

The action-packed 13-stop calendar starts in Monte-Carlo from February 4-7 before wrapping up in Greece from 12-15 August. Along the way, competitors will compete in five new stops to the 2022 calendar: Spain, Belgium, Croatia, Estonia and Greece.

The format will remain the same as in 2021 as the top eight drivers from the regular season will automatically earn a spot in the World Finals, the date and venue of which is yet to be determined. The top 10 results of each player will be taken into account for qualification to the Final.

Prestigious teams competing for the 2022 season

The WRC eSports Championship is open to all WRC 10 players, giving the biggest racing teams the opportunity to compete again this year! Last year, more than 15,000 players competed in 13 rounds, with a live final from Athens during EKO Acropolis Rally Greece. This year, the Race Clutch, Virtual Best Racing and Team Williams are already registered for the 2022 season, which promises to be a top level competition.

Three-time WRC winner and 2021 champion Lohan ‘Nexl’ Blanc will be competing in the 2022 season alongside his Race Clutch teammates, putting his title back on the line.

“The finals of the 2020 and 2021 championships ended neck and neck with Sami-Joe Abi Nakhle, and I’m looking forward to competing against the best sim racing players on WRC 10, which we tested in the last final in Greece. I’ve had time to train on this new version of the game, the driving sensations on some of the special stages are incredible, sometimes very difficult” says Nexl. “I can’t wait to see what it will be like in competition, with the sometimes complicated weather conditions, it will be very challenging.”

Chernobylite Next-Gen Console Launch in April

Video game publisher All in! Games and development studio The Farm 51, are pleased to announce that the highly anticipated next-gen console version of Chernobylite will be released on April 21. Additionally, the date marks the release of the PC Enhanced Edition, the Blue Flames DLC, and a physical edition of Chernobylite for PS5 published by Perp Games. The game won Indie DB’s ‘Indie of the Year’ Player’s Choice Award, was featured in Steam’s ‘Best of 2021’ list, and has no intention of slowing down in 2022. Based on Chernobylite’s content roadmap, players can expect continuous game enhancements and more content updates throughout the year.

“If last year is any indication, Chernobylite has taken a worthy place among the best indie games of 2021. The next-gen release is the natural next step that fans of the game have been eagerly awaiting,” said Piotr Żygadło, CEO at All in! Games. “We’re proud to say that it will be the biggest visual revamp of the game so far, and that due to the simultaneous release of the PC Enhanced Edition, players across all platforms will undoubtedly benefit.”

The upgrade to the next-gen version of Chernobylite and the PC Enhanced Edition will be available for owners of the game through a free update. Both updates will introduce ray tracing and will greatly improve the game’s already hyper-realistic visuals. The next-gen versions specifically will also add two new graphic profiles: 4K (Dynamic) 30 FPS and 1080p (Ultra Details) 60 FPS and the PS5 update will additionally add features for DualSense Controllers such as advanced vibrations and adaptive triggers as well as compatibility with PlayStation’s Activity Card feature.

To make the day even more eventful, Blue Flames, the first of four scheduled content drops for 2022, will be released for all platforms. Blue Flames will offer a free content update, ‘Memories of You’; a new weapon, the Silent Assassin crossbow (pictured below); and a paid content pack. With ‘Memories of You’, players will learn more about Tatyana and Igor’s fateful backstory through new events and collectibles.
