Gloomhaven Publisher Unveils Survival: Fountain of Youth Early Access Trailer

Twin Sails Interactive, the publisher of Gloomhaven and Ember Knights, has today announced a partnership with Odinsoft to publish Survival: Fountain of Youth, the single-player survival game set in the 16th-century Caribbean islands. The agreement comes alongside a new video highlighting Survival: Fountain of Youth’s upcoming 2023 early access launch.

Dive into an open-world survival crafting experience as a shipwrecked member of Juan Ponce de León’s expedition for the Fountain of Youth. Awaken on the shores of an uninhabited archipelago and get to work securing shelter, food, and water. Stave off hunger, thirst, and dangerous diseases while exploring uncharted environments, scouring for clues to the missing crew’s location, and crafting weapons and tools to establish a base of operations.

Combine a myriad of materials to assemble a wealth of useful items. Start with primitive bows, ideal for small game hunting, and eventually progress to powerful muskets strong enough to fight back against the archipelago’s deadly predators. Lash wood together and build a simple raft capable of exploring nearby landmarks, and work tirelessly to eventually assemble a glorious Spanish schooner to patrol for secrets across the tropical paradise.

Travel to different islands with sea vessels to seek out signs of fellow explorers, but be prepared for unexpected challenges. Assemble supplies before setting out on sea voyages and unlock new regions by either uncovering mapping notes abandoned by previous expeditions, referencing copper plaques hidden in ancient ruins, or crafting more technologically advanced vessels capable of longer trips. Plot a route and set sail on an epic journey full of ancient civilizations to explore, mysterious messages from missing crew members, and the clues tied to the secret of the fabled Fountain of Youth.

Survival: Fountain of Youth’s upcoming early access launch allows the development team to continually update and iterate on the experience through a collaborative process of listening to and implementing community feedback to create an immersive survival crafting game inspired by historical events. The early access version will debut with two expansive regions to explore, full of resources, fauna, and secrets to uncover, with three additional regions planned in subsequent updates, adding new biomes, story quests, and much more.

“Finding a reliable publishing partner was as challenging as finding the Fountain of Youth, and we were thrilled to get in touch with Twin Sails,” said Stas Ignatov, Head of Publishing at Odinsoft. “Their deep analysis of the game, thorough expertise, and genuine interest in the project were the key reasons for us to partner with them. Twin Sails is dedicated to helping Odinsoft make Survival: Fountain of Youth one of the top survival games of 2023 and fulfill players’ expectations in the best possible way.”

“We are thrilled to publish Survival: Fountain of Youth, the long-awaited unique blend of survival and historical fantasy,” said Nicolas Godement, Managing Director of Twin Sails. “We are very excited by the game’s expertly crafted mechanics immersing players in a world filled with danger and mystery, supported by a well-written story full of twists and turns. We look forward to working with Odinsoft’s team of adventurers to craft an unforgettable experience.”

Survival: Fountain of Youth will arrive on Windows PC via Steam Early Access in Q2 2023, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions planned alongside the version 1.0 launch. For more information, wishlist Survival: Fountain of Youth on Steam.

Blumhouse Unveils Games Division for Horror-Themed Game Experiences

Blumhouse, the multimedia company, is launching a new subsidiary to produce and publish video games. The company has appointed Zach Wood as President and Don Sechler as CFO of the new venture.

Blumhouse Games will partner with independent game developers to bring their creative vision to life via original, horror-themed games for console, PC and mobile audiences. In the spirit of its film business, Blumhouse Games will target indie-budget games (below $10M) to enable innovation and pushing creative boundaries.

“For some time we have been looking to build out a team to start accessing the growth opportunity in interactive media. When we sat with Zach and Don they articulated an approach that resonated with Blumhouse’s model and we knew it was a perfect place for us to start our push into the interactive space.” said Abhijay Prakash, Blumhouse President. “With their experience, sensibility and knowledge of the gaming marketplace Zach and Don are the ideal leaders to leverage Blumhouse’s unique genre strengths into gaming.”

“Through my time in the industry, I’ve had the good fortune of working closely with developers to bring their ideas to life. There’s a unique opportunity for horror and genre in the indie game space, and I’m thrilled about teaming up with Blumhouse to meaningfully leverage the company’s brand, reputation, and creative talent,” said Zach Wood.

At the end of last year, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster announced that they were looking to merge. That deal is anticipated to close sometime in the summer.

Wood has been a video game producer for more than 25 years and has shipped over 30 games on every major platform — from the Game Boy to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The games range from large-teamed AAA to award-winning indie darlings, like Sound Shapes, Hohokum, The Unfinished Swan and Bound at Santa Monica Studio/PlayStation; Prey: Mooncrash and Redfall at Arkane/Bethesda; and most recently, a stint with Iron Galaxy.

Before joining Blumhouse Games, Sechler headed finance, operations, and strategy for Sony PlayStation’s publisher and developer relations function, where he helped to structure and execute business development deals for the development, marketing, and distribution of games ranging from the largest IP in video games to first time developers. Upon joining the team in 2013, he was a key team member reforming the culture of PlayStation’s relationship with third party game creators, culminating in the investment of over $150 million in indie game content, generating significant returns for creators. He also created the team that advises game makers on industry best practices that help optimize the engagement and monetization of their content.

RØDE has today announced the NT1 5th Generation, a revolutionary studio condenser microphone that fuses the classic sound of the iconic RØDE NT1 with new, cutting-edge technology. Since its release more than 30 years ago, the microphone has gone through multiple transformations, including the legendary NT1-A and innovative fourth generation NT1, both of which are used by countless creators today. The NT1 5th Generation is the most significant evolution yet, harnessing the iconic sound quality and world-class performance that made the previous generations so successful while introducing state-of-the-art technology, including RØDE’s groundbreaking, patent-pending Dual Connect output offering both XLR and USB connectivity, a world-first “unclippable” 32-bit float digital output, advanced digital signal processing, and so much more. A perfect marriage of tradition and innovation, this is the ultimate studio microphone.

  • Designed and made in RØDE’s precision manufacturing facilities in Sydney, Australia

THE WORLD’S MOST POPULAR STUDIO MICROPHONE

RØDE NT1

Introduced in 1991, the NT1 was RØDE’s debut microphone – the first in a long line of products that have reshaped the way creators across every discipline capture audio. Released at a time where new advancements in audio technology democratised the studio workflow and made recording more accessible than ever before, it was an instant success and fast became the go-to microphone for a new generation of DIY musicians and studio professionals alike. Over the last three decades, it has continued to be the best-selling studio condenser worldwide, beloved for its warm, classic sound signature and incredible versatility.

“The NT1 is not only our flagship microphone, it’s an icon for today’s creative generation,” says RØDE CEO Damien Wilson. “Countless musicians, podcasters, streamers, broadcasters and content creators consider it their go-to microphone, and for good reason – it sounds incredible, is extremely flexible, and is built like a tank – a true studio workhorse. With this new generation, we wanted to preserve all of these qualities while incorporating innovations that have never been seen before in a microphone like this. The NT1 5th Generation is unlike any studio mic out there, but it hasn’t lost its charm and is sure to continue inspiring creators for decades to come.”

The NT1 5th Generation is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone that delivers exceptional performance in a wide range of studio applications. It features RØDE’s stunning HF6 capsule – first introduced in the fourth generation NT1 – which delivers sparkling top end, detailed midrange and rich bass that makes every sound source shine. It has a tight cardioid polar pattern, smooth frequency response, and high sensitivity for incredible versatility – ideal for recording everything from vocals and speech to acoustic and electric guitar, drums and percussion, piano, and more. Enhanced circuitry delivers an astonishingly low 4dBA of self-noise, making it the world’s quietest studio condenser microphone, and it features high SPL handling capabilities for maximum flexibility in the studio. These characteristics alone make the NT1 5th Generation a world-class microphone, but this is only half the story.

GAME-CHANGING CONNECTIVITY

For over 50 years, the XLR connector has remained virtually unchanged – until now. The NT1 5th Generation features RØDE’s groundbreaking, patent-pending Dual Connect output, which offers both XLR and USB connectivity in the same housing. This allows users to connect to an audio interface, mixer, console or other audio equipment via XLR for a traditional analog workflow or directly to a computer via USB for plug-and-play recording.

When using the analog output, the NT1 5th Generation delivers the exact same rich, warm tone and best-in-class performance that the NT1 is revered for. When using the digital output, these sonic characteristics are maintained, with the added convenience, power and versatility of direct USB connectivity. The NT1 5th Generation features a professional-grade audio interface built into the microphone. This is perfectly optimised to preserve its pristine audio fidelity and also offers a range of highly innovative features to further enhance its sound, making capturing studio-quality audio easier than ever before.

THE UNCLIPPABLE MICROPHONE

The NT1 5th Generation is the world’s first microphone to feature a 32-bit float digital output. This revolutionary audio format captures the full dynamic range of the microphone while allowing users recording in a DAW to adjust their audio to the optimal level after recording. This means users can record anything from a whisper to a scream without worrying about setting their gain correctly beforehand and with no chance of their signal clipping.

“The NT1 5th Generation redefines the meaning of plug-and-play,” says Damien Wilson. “Since the beginning of audio recording, engineers have relied on the gain knob to capture clean audio – it’s always been the most important process in the recording workflow. The NT1 5th Generation changes that completely. When recording in 32-bit float, users can literally plug their microphone into their computer and start recording instantly without any risk of their audio being ruined by clipping or distortion.”

CLASSIC SOUND ON THE CUTTING EDGE

The NT1 5th Generation’s digital output also features RØDE’s ultra-low-noise, high-gain Revolution Preamp™ and ultra-high-resolution analog-to-digital conversion (up to 192kHz) for ultimate sonic purity. Powerful on-board DSP allows users to apply advanced APHEX® audio processing to their recordings, including a compressor, noise gate, two-step high-pass filter, and legendary Aural Exciter™ and Big Bottom™ effects.

Accessible via RØDE’s free companion apps, RØDE Central and RØDE Connect, there are two different processing modes available: the intuitive VoxLab™ editor with simple controls for Depth, Sparkle and Punch, making it incredibly easy to dial in the perfect sound, or an advanced editor, which offers granular control over every parameter for fine-tuned processing. Users can connect up to eight NT1 5th Generation microphones to a single computer for multitrack recording, even on Windows operating systems using RØDE’s custom ASIO driver. This is so much more than just a studio condenser microphone, it’s an all-in-one digital recording solution.

LEGENDARY RØDE QUALITY

To make getting set up and recording as easy as possible, the NT1 5th Generation comes with a studio-grade shock mount and pop filter as well as a high-quality XLR and USB cable. Each microphone is built to the highest standard in RØDE’s state-of-the-art facilities in Sydney, Australia using premium components.

The HF6 capsule is precision manufactured to sub-micron tolerances to ensure the utmost consistency in tonality and frequency response, and is internally shock-mounted for minimising external vibrations. The microphone body is machined from rugged aluminium and is available in black or silver, with high-grade finishes that are extremely resistant to scuffs and scratches. The NT1 5th Generation is also backed by a 10-year warranty and RØDE’s legendary customer service.

The NT1 5th Generation is available to pre-order now for US$249 and will be available in March 2023. To find out more, head to rode.com/nt1-5th-generation.

World of Warships British Submarines Early Access

Wargaming, publisher and developer of the naval multiplayer free-to-play game World of Warships, is introducing an armada of content to Update 12.1. With British submarines coming to Early Access, a campaign with an Australian light cruiser waiting at the end and a new season of Clan battles, this update is jam-packed full of content. Moreover, World of Warships has also added a chain of several special combat missions with All-American prizes waiting at the finish line.

British submarines sink into Early Access

Beginning March 2nd, three historic British submarines will make their way into Early Access. Undine, Sturdy and Thrasher all enter the game alongside several permanent camouflages and other exciting rewards. These deep-sea vessels offer value in maneuverability and fast reloading acoustic torpedoes, however their limited hit-points will require players to be deft in their movements. These sub-surface ships also see the standard submarine equipment, including “Damage Control Party,” “Submarine Surveillance” and “Hydrophone”.

Alongside these additions, comes a special collective chain of combat missions which, upon completion, will bestow players with both a special commemorative flag and British Tokens.

Queen of the Seas campaign sets sail

In a three-week campaign format, The Queen of the Seas takes players on a special pirate-themed adventure that follows the path of an Australian bushranger on her quest to flee the continent aboard a mythical ship. Along the way players can acquire plenty of Pirate Tokens – a temporary resource that can be exchanged for two valuable prizes – Australian light cruiser Brisbane and Commander Matilda Kelly. With powerful air defence that includes ten 152-mm main battery guns and an augmented torpedo armament for underwater destruction, Brisbane is a valuable addition to any fleet, and the accompanying Commander Kelly sits at her helm with 19 skill points.

All-American awards await

Combat missions aren’t only limited to British submarines though. Until the end of February, players can embark on a chain of combat missions where completing them brings about a number of all-American rewards including a Commander Statue of Liberty, equipped with its own unique voice acting and American Tokens. Players can also secure permanent camouflages, a commemorative flag and a number of other star-spangled goodies in exchange for tokens or across random doubloon packs.

The season of “Salamander” Clan Battles

Closing out Update 12.1, the game also sees the 20th season of Clan Battles. Starting February 20th through April 10, Warships players with Tier X ships can team up and engage in a seven-on-seven battle of strength and strategy. As usual, to keep the playing field level, there are a handful of ship restrictions with the exclusion of aircraft carriers and submarines, as well as a cap on battleships.

Update 12.1 also sees another Battle Pass added to the game, three Brawls starting on February 20th and several visual and technical changes across the board.
