Bethesda Clarifies Reasons for Prey 2 Delay

Here is an official statement from Bethesda Softworks regarding Prey 2, its delay, and the reason behind it.

From Bethesda Softworks

Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.

World of Warplanes Fighters Trailer

19 April 2012 — Wargaming.net, the award-winning videogame developer and publisher, today unveiled its Fighters, one of the three main classes of warbirds that will slice deadly skies, in the company’s highly anticipated World of Warplanes flight combat MMO.

Fighters will be available for all nations currently featured in World of Warplanes-the U.S., Germany and the Soviet Union-and will be represented by the most famous warplane models, including the P-51 Mustang, P-39 Airacobra, La-5, and Bf 109.

Just like their real-life prototypes, Fighters in World of Warplanes will be best at performing offensive reconnaissance, engaging in close one-on-one dogfights and effective attacking in groups of two or three.

“People love fighters for the freedom they give,” comments Anton Sitnikau, World of Warplanes Producer. “They have tremendous speed coupled with superb nimbleness that make them a hard target yet a deadly threat for other classes.”

World of Warplanes is currently in its global alpha, with more than 100,000 applicants in 24 hours of opening, and closed beta coming soon.

SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny Postponed Due to Diablo III

VIENNA, AUSTRIA (19th April 2012) – Nordic Games GmbH hereby announces that the release of the second stand-alone add-on of the SpellForce 2 series – Faith in Destiny – will be postponed to 19th of June 2012.

“As many already know, hell breaks loose on 15th of May 2012 and may possibly cause a global decrease in productivity, “sick leaves”, and consumption of vacation days. We think that this is a very unfavourable time for the release of SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny and have therefore decided to postpone it. Due to lowered resistance values, even we here at Nordic Games are not immune to said phenomenon and expect anomalies with regards to working hours of our colleagues and employees”, said Philipp Brock, Marketing & PR at Nordic Games.

“Unfortunately, our internal schedule for SpellForce 2: Faith in Destiny did not allow for a postponement to an earlier date; therefore, after some productive feedback sessions with our partners, we have decided to release on 19th of June, 2012”, added Gennaro “Genna” Giani Localization and Production Manager at Nordic Games.

LOS ANGELES, CA, April 18, 2012 – Open Road Films has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D, the highly anticipated sequel to 2006’s film SILENT HILL, released by TriStar Pictures.  SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D will be released wide October 26, 2012 in time for Halloween.  The announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films and producers Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody.

Based on the groundbreaking video game franchise, SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D is the sequel to the hit film SILENT HILL, which opened to number one at the U.S. box office and took in nearly $100 million at the worldwide box office.  Featuring an unparalleled horror experience, Konami’s Silent Hill franchise has captivated fans for more than a decade and has spawned a hit comic book series, graphic novels, collectibleaction figures and numerous soundtracks from rock bands.

Directed by Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane, Deathwatch), original cast members Sean Bean (HBO’s Game Of Thrones, Lord Of The Rings), Deborah Kara Unger (The Game, 88 minutes, The Samaritan) and Radha Mitchell (Man On Fire, The Crazies, upcoming The Frozen Ground) return in SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D, starring along with rising stars Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins, upcoming The Great Gatsby, No One Lives) and Kit Harington (HBO’s Game Of Thrones) as well as Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix, Disturbia, NBC’s Chuck) and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, The Artist).

Ortenberg stated, “Silent Hill has proven to be a powerhouse franchise.  The fans have greeted each incarnation, including the original SILENT HILL film, with great enthusiasm and we are confident that this latest project will be a strong addition to Open Road’s 2012 slate.”

Producer Samuel Hadida added, “The film is a thrill ride that improves on the original in many ways.  We take all audiences, new and old, deep into the world of psychological horror that is Silent Hill, and advance thestory for those familiar with the franchise. We are thrilled to have Tom and his terrific team at Open Road presenting our film to U.S. audiences.

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Open Road Films by Ortenberg, General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Operations and Business Affairs, Elliott Kleinberg, and Senior Vice President of Acquisitions, Ben Cotner.   International sales for SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D are being handled by Lionsgate.   In addition to Samuel Hadida, the film was produced by Hadida’s Davis films as well as Don Carmody.

Mercenary Ops Announced

SAN JOSE, Calif. — April 17, 2012 — PC shooter fans looking for a new twist on online multiplayer games are certain to find it this summer in Mercenary Ops. The new title combines the best of the tactical gameplay elements from conventional third-person shooters with the fast-paced competitive and cooperative team matches found in online multiplayer titles – and adds to the mix a deeper layer of character development and customization.

“In a third-person shooter, the online multiplayer aspect of the game always seems to be an after-thought to the single-player experience,” said Mercenary Ops Producer, Jason Sharp. “Because of this, we decided to concentrate on creating an entirely different online experience by looking at every facet of game design from that perspective. This decision resulted in a unique style of play that enhanced traditional tactical combat by requiring players to have a quicker, more aggressive attitude.”

Like other third-person shooters, Mercenary Ops implements cover-based mechanics and an active reload system as the foundation of the game’s design. Along with these familiar gameplay elements, the developers added the precise control and aiming abilities found only on the PC. In addition, the game was enhanced by adding destructible cover, an encumbrance system and maps designed with multiple threat vectors to shake up the stop-and-pop gameplay often found in third-person shooters.

Combat in Mercenary Ops puts an equal emphasis on both competitive play and team-based cooperative missions. In competitive multiplayer, up to 16 players can faceoff in five different, intense game modes, while in co-op, teams of 3 – 8 players take on hordes of AI controlled enemies and mini-bosses in a fight for survival.

Apart from the dynamic combat features, Mercenary Ops features an array of customization and advancement options. Players gain experience from killing enemies and completing difficult mission objectives, allowing for more opportunities to access weapon and equipment upgrades; some of which can only be obtained in select game modes.

Mercenary Ops was created using the Unreal Engine 3. The engine was selected for its cutting-edge graphics, multi-core processor support, optimization for the PC and massive world support.

Mercenary Ops will launch exclusively for the PC in Summer 2012. More information can be found at www.mercenaryopsgame.com.
