Shadowrun Online Coming to Steam Early Access

shadowrunonline

March 27, 2014 – Shadowrun Online, the turn-based MMO successfully funded on Kickstarter, is coming to Steam Early Access on March 31. A prequel to the first Shadowrun Online campaign, Lockdown (also an upcoming tabletop RPG book), this introductory offering will focus on the core mechanics of combat.

Cliffhanger Productions Co-Founder, Jan Wagner, talks about the release and upcoming features of Shadowrun Online in a new developer video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynWEDQEq-WE

“We are very excited (and a little frightened) to finally show this first glimpse of the game to the world,” said Wagner. “We don’t want to pile on features unless we have nailed the core gameplay elements, so we created this small and polished section for our players to enjoy.”

The initial release of Shadowrun Online through Early Access will provide players with a PvP map, two characters, four missions, and basic skills. This limited, combat-focused approach will provide valuable feedback from Kickstarter backers and the Steam community and help guide development.

Moving forward, incremental updates (approximately monthly) will allow Cliffhanger Productions to respond to community requests and to provide players with new content and features, including character creation, skill progression, and new missions.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us and we have invested everything (and then some) into development. Although we originally planned to begin our release schedule last year, it became apparent that our original code-base was too restricting, and we weren’t willing to make compromises due to code limitations. Our backers and the Shadowrun community have been incredibly supportive, and more than anything we want to live up to their expectations.”

Shadowrun Online: Lockdown will be cross-platform when it releases, allowing people to play on PC, Mac, and mobile devices.

Prague, Czech Republic, Thursday 27th March 2014 — Bohemia Interactive today released a brand new episode in their official Community Guide video series for Arma 3. In the latest episode, Andrew Gluck (better known as Dslyecxi) from ShackTactical explores the concept of guerrilla warfare – something which factors heavily into the Arma 3 singleplayer campaign.

Approaching the concept from the perspective of guerrilla fighters, the new video explains how to deal with the equipment disparity, how to conduct successful hit-and-run attacks, how to safely withdraw from the area of operations, and more.

Bohemia Interactive’s Community Guide video series aims to explain some of the basics of Arma 3. Previous episodes focused on topics such as infantry combatmultiplayer teamwork,helicopterssniper- and launcher teamscombined arms warfare, and air assault. High Noon Targets Review (Airsoft)

AC-TARGET-HNKIT

Recently, the folks at High Noon Targets sent us over one of their target sets to review. If you are a big fan of airsoft gaming, one of the challenges you have faced is how to test out your guns in the privacy of your own home. Where this becomes tricky is not wanting to accidentally damage anything in your own home due to ricochets, etc. If you have a game room or basement (not many of us do in Southern California), then you are in a bit of a better position. Either way, High Noon Targets has created an airsoft target with a built in trap that promises to prevent BB ricochet and make your home target practice more fun and less messy.

Of course, please be sure to check with state and local laws prior to using your airsoft guns and always wear eye protection – safety first, people! Now that the safety spiel is out of the way, we can take a look at the High Noon Target itself. Resembling a standard silhouette target you might see at a real steel firing range, the target paper is laid over a special cardboard backing which is then embedded into a plastic frame with a built-in hook that can hang on a wall, post, etc. The real trick in making this successful at its promise is in the target’s cardboard and embedding. If the cardboard is too thick, BBs won’t penetrate – too thin, and BBs might go through and bounce out like a hot knife through butter. If the target is not embedded just right in its housing, then BBs could roll out the bottom or bounce out the sides. It must have taken some trial and error but it looks like High Noon Targets found the right mix of factors because the target system works beautifully.

Video Testing and Review

Very affordable, you can get the initial package of 2 target papers , 1 backing, and 1 cardboard insert as a set for $21.00 dollars. Once you have shot that up good, you can get replacement kits of 4 cardboard inserts and 8 paper targets for about $13.00 dollars. This makes it a very handy way to practice your muscle memory or just have fun and do some shooting.

Overall, High Noon Targets airsoft target system is an exceptional way to use your airsoft guns in the house without making a gigantic mess everywhere. Plus, they are laid out like real steel firearms targets – so, if you have an airsoft replica you use for real steel muscle memory, improving your draw, etc then this system would be perfect for you.

Superfeet Premium Insoles Review (Airsoft)

pdp-orange-v4_1

If you have ever worn military style boots for any length of time, you have no doubt wished that boot makers included more comfortable insoles out of the box. Unfortunately, with few exceptions, this is pretty much par for the course. Some folks have turned to gel insoles, which feel comfy for a short time but, with extended use, eventually get so squished down that they lose their cushion and need replacing. Superfeet has been making premium insoles for quite some time, so I thought we could take a look at a couple of them for your airsofting needs.

Superfeet insoles are not like traditional, and generic, insoles found in the pharmacy. These require some knowledge about your feet and gait. They have designed their insoles for several types of people – those with high arches, those with low arches, and even going further into what kind of usage you need them for. I was able to test out both Orange and Copper flavors. Well – more appropriately, I tested out the Orange model due to my higher arches and a cohort of mine used the Copper with his low arches. We both wear BATES brand TAC boots – I with a GX-8 Desert Composite Toe and he with a DuraShocks Steel Toe desert boot. BATES is a fine brand for use when lighter is better as most of their boots are made with durable, yet lightweight material. My issue with them is that their insoles are very poor out of the box – and that’s where the Superfeet come in.

My cohort wearing the Copper model was equally impressed with his superfeet, praising their comfort after a very long airsoft game session which seemed to never end. In fact, I am not sure we ever found all of the opposing team out there on the private field we were playing on.

BTS-W2276-06

Fitting and sizing the Superfeet insoles was easy – I just lined up the stock ones with the Superfeet, made a Sharpie pen outline, then cut the Superfeet to size with scissors. It can’t get much more simple than that.

The feeling of the Orange model I was wearing was deceiving at first. They felt very firm, and I was confused at how they were going to support my feet as I had most experience with cheaper, generic gel insoles. I was happily corrected once I started running around with them on. They molded themselves a lot more closely to my feet and I found that I didn’t need them to be full of gel. In fact, I have a sneaky suspicion that companies will fill insoles with gel as a cop out because they don’t form to your feet. You squish into them with every step, giving the illusion of support and comfort. You haven’t felt anything until you have run around with Superfeet in your boots. The experiences are just night and day different.

You can check out the entire line of Superfeet insoles at their official website. Considering how long they seem to last, their price points of about $30 to $50 dollars depending on the particular model, are very cost-effective and, after many airsoft games in my TAC boots with these…. Trust me, your feet will thank you.
