Fleet Carriers Coming to Elite Dangerous

Cambridge, UK – 26 March 2020. Frontier Developments plc (AIM: FDEV) today revealed the first details on Fleet Carriers, an eagerly awaited update to the long running space simulator, Elite Dangerous. As mobile starships and trading hubs capable of transporting multiple allies, Fleet Carriers will be available to players in two betas ahead of full launch in June. A Frontier stream on April 2 at 18:00 GMT/ 11:00 PST / 14:00 EST will reveal further details. Tune in to watch here.

Experienced Commanders rejoice, as the long awaited Fleet Carriers venture forth into the galaxy, offering a range of new ways to experience Elite Dangerous with expanded emergent gameplay possibilities. Will you be a friend to the galaxy and support wayward travelers, or a tyrant who taxes those in need?

The most expensive investment to date and costing 5,000,000,000 credits, Fleet Carriers are individually owned and contain 16 landing pads of varying sizes for other players to dock their starships in, with a galaxy-spanning jump range of 500 light years.

Once purchased, Commanders can choose whether to invest and open up new services on their mobile hubs, including repair docks, refueling stations, shipyards and more. Incorporating player-to-player commerce for the first time in Elite Dangerous, Fleet Carrier owners can also set tariffs on all goods traded on their Carrier’s services to support the weekly upkeep costs, from wear and tear maintenance to crew wages and Tritium, a new fuel commodity needed to power the megaships.

Aspiring Commanders will be able to customize their Fleet Carriers to their hearts’ content, adapting these majestic spaceships to their preferred playstyle, but they will also need to plan and balance their finances to cover running costs, as persistent debt that eventually exceeds the debt threshold could see carriers decommissioned and sold for parts.

Two open betas will allow all players to experience Fleet Carriers ahead of their launch into the live game. Beta 1 is open to PC players and will commence in April 7. Beta 2 will include PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players and will take place in May. Fleet Carriers officially launch into the live game on June 2020.

A Frontier livestream on April 2 at 18:00 GMT/ 10:00 PST / 13:00 EST will premiere gameplay, reveal further details including customisation options and additional features, and take questions from the community. Join in to hear more here.

V2. Escape from Hell Director Utilizing War Thunder for Dogfight Staging

March 25, 2020 – Gaijin Entertainment announces that the military online action game War Thunder is being used by director Timur Bekmambetov (‘Searching’, ‘Unfriended’, ‘Wanted’) in his upcoming World War 2 film ‘V2. Escape from Hell’. It is based on the life of Mikhail Devyatayev, a Soviet fighter pilot who escaped from a concentration camp in a hijacked Nazi military aircraft. Bekmambetov is utilizing technology to safely continue the film’s production during the COVID-19 pandemic which includes filming a full air battle scene using War Thunder’s realistic gameplay.

Using War Thunder, the full air battle scene had leading actor Pavel Priluchny (‘Silver Spoon’) piloting a Bell P-39 Airacobra fighter plane while sitting in a replica of a real cockpit specifically built for the film. The scene involved experienced War Thunder virtual pilots and content makers who played with Priluchny. The shooting was set up remotely amid coronavirus concerns: the crew was located in Lenfilm studio in St. Petersburg while the director was running the process from Kazan.

“’V2. Escape from Hell’ will be the first movie about World War II designed for GenZ. It will be the first vertical format blockbuster to be released for smartphone viewing. So we would like to narrate this story using modern and high-tech visual means. Shooting inside a computer game will add entertainment to the project and fully immerse the viewer in what is happening on the screen – an experience that today’s gamers get from Russian-made computer games with their high realism and attention to detail,” the project director Timur Bekmambetov said.

The pilots and the actor played out several dozens of gameplay sessions with no starting conditions based on the film scenario. Also the best War Thunder pilots, participants of the international aerobatic festivals, played out several other air battle scenarios using flight simulation joysticks and VR devices. Gaijin Entertainment provided the full replays with all the flight and other technical data to the CG production team of the Bazelevs studio. The best moments will be used by the director to stage the air battle scenes, while the CG specialists will use the flight data to model graphics and special effects.

“We are pleased that the realistic air battle simulation is sought after not only by gamers, but also by movie makers,” commented Anton Yudintsev, CEO and co-founder of Gaijin Entertainment, creator of War Thunder.

‘V2. Escape from Hell’ (co-production of Bazelevs, Voenfilm and MTS) will be released in 2021. The movie plot is based on the real life story of Mikhail Devyataev, a Soviet pilot and war hero who managed to escape from a Nazi concentration camp in a captured He 111 bomber aircraft and went on to tell the Soviet command about a secret V2 rocket testing range on an island in the Baltic sea.

Moons of Madness Now Out on Consoles

OSLO, Norway – March 24th, 2020 – Today you can finally launch into space and experience Lovecraftian horror on your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, as developer Rock Pocket Games and publisher Funcom announce the console release of Moons of Madness.

Assume the role of Shane Newehart, chief engineer on a research facility on Mars, where something is about to go horribly wrong. Strange and terrifying creatures emerge, and nightmares begin to blend in with reality. In order to survive, you’ll have to rely on your calm, your problem-solving skills and your quick feet, as you delve deeper and deeper into a world of fear, conspiracy and madness.

“We’re happy to see that the game was well-received on PC, but we are well aware that many players prefer to play horror games on console, on a bigger screen and with the curtains closed,” says Ivan Moen, CEO of Rock Pocket Games. “And so today, we’re very excited to finally bring the game to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players,” he says.

Moons of Madness was released on PC in October 2019 and is set in the same thematic universe as Funcom’s The Secret World, where conspiracies and dark secrets are commonplace. The Secret World-players may recognize certain names and themes, but having played one is by no means a prerequisite to enjoy the other.

The PlayStation 4 release of Moons of Madness in Japan, South Korea and select Asian countries will follow later this week.
