G-FORM Pro-X Protective Pad Review

While playing airsoft in rough environments, reliable PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) like gloves, helmets, elbow and knee pads are of the utmost importance. Nothing ruins a game day like someone splitting open their extremities. While there are a number of overseas companies that produce knock-off tactical PPE, I found a US-based company that has some futuristic protection worth your looking at. G-Form produces several protective pads for just about every body part you would want to protect. I got the chance to check out their “Pro-X” line of elbow and knee pads and was greatly impressed by just how well they work in an airsoft environment. During my game days out at SC Village in Norco, CA I “eat it” hard at least once during the day – not counting the minor slide here and there. Further, there are multiple times throughout the day where I will have to hit the deck in a hurry and that can be rough on a person’s knees.

The star player in the Pro-X knee and elbow pads is the company’s proprietary RPT (Reactive Protection Technology) foam. This foam material exists in a soft, malleable state when not under stress. However, when this material is subject to an impact like, say, hitting the ground knee-first, the molecules of the RPT pad bind together and instantly harden. Once the impact has subsided, the material returns to its softer state. Serving to increase team morale further, these G-Form Pro-X pads can be washed in cold water then hung dry, so they won’t end up smelling terrible for future use.

One of the worse things about wearing traditional tactical knee pads is the sweat they produce. The feeling is just super-uncomfortable as your tactical pants bunch up and dampen under the pad. That feeling is way worse than taking a spray of full auto on an unprotected area as it stays with you. Even if you somehow cool off between games and take your pads off, you are left with soggy pant knees – yuck. With the G-Form pads, I never felt this happen at all. The pads are sewn onto a compression fabric that, while keeping everything together, is extremely breathable. Also, because the pads themselves are segmented and not continuous, you get nice air flow down into the area covered by the pads to add to the cooling effect. Another huge issue with tactical knee pads is that they have a tendency to move around and fall. The G-Form Pro-X pads are sewn onto that compression sleeve which isn’t going anywhere. I got to take a look at the XL size and probably should have gone with the XXL units. They are really tight on my person and probably a bit too much. Check out the G-Form sizing charts to ensure you are getting the right sizes.

It was strange to wear the G-Form Pro-X pads at first because they go underneath your combat shirt and pants, not over top. It took me a game or two to get used to the fact that to my eyes it didn’t look like I was wearing pads. Once I did, though, I had absolutely no fear in running around, sliding on my knees, etc. I don’t recall getting shot with a BB in the G-Form padding, so I can’t tell you exactly how it feels – however, due to their construction and the way the RPT foam reacts to impact, I can’t imagine you’d feel it. The only real downside to the G-Form Pro-X pads is that, because they don’t go over top of your combat shirt and pants, those garments will take more wear and tear during use. But, I digress, there are trade-offs for everything in life and, for me, wearing more on my pants is of less concern than that awful knee sweat or falling knee pads.

Overall, the G-Form line of Pro-X elbow and knee pads are an amazing advancement in padding that will keep your joints cooler as well as more protected during your airsoft games in rugged terrain. Finally, these pads are reasonably priced considering their capabilities. The Pro-X knee pads retail for about $60 dollars while the elbow pads run for about $50.

A total of 111 territories  (from A for Albania to Z for Zimbabwe) were represented, competing in F1 2017 – the official game of the FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™, on the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X and PC – with Great Britain leading with 23% of the players, followed by USA (16%) and Germany (13%).

Every team must select at least one of its drivers from the Pro Draft.

The F1 Esports Pro Draft will see the players travel from 15 countries – including the UK, Chile, Germany and Finland, amongst others – to historic Silverstone in the build up to the Formula 1 2018 Rolex British Grand Prix. There they will undergo a series of tests, assessments and interviews with the teams to demonstrate why they should be selected. The Pro Draft will be streamed online on Facebook and will also be shown live on television.

Once selected, the official esports drivers will represent their real-world teams later on in the season as they race in the three live events that will determine the 2018 F1 Esports Series Teams’ and Drivers’ World Champions. There will be a prize fund of $200,000 allocated to the teams based on their positions in the team standings.

Of the 40 players confirmed for the Pro Draft, 36 came through the Open Qualification phase – four online events on the F1 2017 game followed by four sets of races on each of the three platforms. The fastest nine players on PS4, Xbox and PC have all qualified. Two more players qualified through the Online Qualification Wildcard and are joined by Fabrizio Donoso Delgado and Sven Zürner, who both qualified through last year’s competition finishing respectively 2nd and 3rd.

The F1 Esports Series is operated in partnership with Codemasters, the developer and publisher of the official Formula 1 video game franchise and Gfinity, one of the world’s leading esports companies.

Julian Tan, Head of Digital Growth & F1 Esports at Formula 1 said:

“Last year’s series was a great success and based on the level of those who have qualified for this year’s Pro Draft, the 2018 season is shaping up to be even more exciting. The drivers will now battle it out for what is a truly incredible opportunity. With the F1 teams involved we have been able to combine the power of Esports with the magic of Formula 1, establishing an authentic series that builds on what we have on the grid. We can’t wait to watch the action unfold.”

Paul Jeal, Formula 1 Franchise Director at Codemasters said:

For our gamers to have the opportunity to join a real Formula 1 team is an incredible opportunity and we cannot wait to see them perform on the biggest stage on F1 2018.”

Mark Brittain, Chief Commercial Officer at Gfinity said:

“The online tournament has seen a record number of competitors and the competition has been incredibly competitive. We now look forward to welcoming the top players and their potential Teams to the Gfinity Esports Arena for the Pro Draft as we enter the second phase of our activation.”

DreamWorks Theatre and Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest Opens at Universal Studios

Universal City, CA, June 14, 2018 – A spectacular Kung Fu Martial Arts display, dragon warrior parade and fireworks finale set the stage for the grand opening of Universal Studios Hollywood’s all-new attraction, DreamWorks Theatre featuring “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest.”

The attraction opens officially on Friday, June 15, 2018.

The festivities also featured an all-star lineup of DreamWorks Animation favorite characters, including Kung Fu Panda’s Masters Po and Tigress; Madagascar’s Alex the Lion, the Penguins—Skipper, Rico, Kowalski and Private, and King Julien; Trolls’ Poppy and Branch; and Shrek’s Puss ‘n Boots, Shrek and Fiona.

The arrival of “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” marks the first attraction to open at The Entertainment Capital of L.A. since Universal’s recent acquisition of DreamWorks Animation.

“As our portfolio expands, we are thrilled to bring exciting new entertainment options to our guests,” said Karen Irwin, President and COO, Universal Studios Hollywood. “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest’ is a fun, spirited story and the ideal attraction to kick start Universal Studios Hollywood’s collaboration with DreamWorks Animation.”

Inspired by the global blockbuster movie franchise, Kung Fu Panda, the attraction takes guests on a thrilling journey that fuses captivating storytelling with state-of-the art visual effects for a highly engaging experience.

Created and produced by DreamWorks Animation and Universal Creative, “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” recounts a plot-filled story whereby on the morning of The Emperor’s Great Feast of Heroes, dragon warrior Po embarks on a wild and perilous mission to deliver the rare and precious Liquid of Limitless Power to the Palace, while enlisting guests to join him on the exciting adventure replete with raging rapids, river pirates, awesome magic and Kung Fu.

With cutting-edge technology at the forefront of the multi-sensory attraction, “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” introduces the first-ever integration of interior projection mapping designed to engulf guests in 180 degrees of immersive adventure. Developed by the innovative team at Universal Creative, this never-before-adapted technique depicts a series of immersive and visually dynamic scenic designs that will transform within the interior space and enhance the story. With detailing that is so precise, it will be near impossible to realize the projected imagery is a mere illusion.

Coupled with seven Christie 4K Boxer Cinema Projectors and 360 degree surround sound audio, sweeping physical effects from water to wind will empower guests to feel more like participants than spectators in the adrenaline-spiked adventure.

Featuring an original score by composer Germaine Franco, the storyline begins as guests enter the pre-show area of the theatre where they meet an array of DreamWorks characters who kick-off the attraction’s narrative. From there, guests enter the main theatre, complete with new ultra-plush, fully articulated seats that pivot and swivel in tandem with the 180-degree action.

The newly constructed building that houses the DreamWorks Theatre is inspired by Mission revival architecture and harkens back to the Golden Age of Hollywood’s Art Deco period of the 1920s, including a box office ticket seller booth, reminiscent of the time period and staffed by a three-dimensional usher asleep on the job.

As guests navigate past the ticket booth, through the flourishing outdoor garden and into the theatre queue, they will encounter a series of 36 movie posters that pay homage to DreamWorks Animation films. Within the lobby, a selection of over 20 award statuettes will be on display, representing a sampling of the Golden Globe, Emmy, People’s Choice, Critic’s Choice, National Board of Review and Annie awards DreamWorks Animation has amassed from 2008 to 2015. A collection of original sculpted maquettes of the “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” characters will also be on display along with artifacts embodying magical powers that Po brought back from the Spirit Realm.

This summer, guests are also invited to spend time with Po and Tigress as part of a special character meet and greet located within the park’s Universal Plaza. A replica of Mr. Ping’s Noodle Shop, as featured in Kung Fu Panda, will also set up within the venue inviting guests to enjoy his authentic Asian fare and a selection of hot and cold Asian beverages.
