Another Sight New Trailer

Milan, Italy – July 6th, 2018 — Pioneering Italian games developer, Lunar Great Wall Studios (www.lgwstudios.com) is delighted to share a new trailer which reveals teasing glimpses of gameplay of ANOTHER SIGHT, due to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch later this year.

View the new teaser trailer here:

Created with heart, culture and character, ANOTHER SIGHT is the story of Kit and Hodge. Whilst exploring the London Underground during its construction in 1899, Kit, a bold teenager is caught in a tunnel collapse. When Kit wakes up, her sight is gone, and she’s left helpless in the dark world below London. Hodge, a mysterious cat finds Kit, and becomes her companion on a journey through a surreal fantasy adventure, influenced by Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere.

Marco Ponte, CEO of Lunar Great Wall Studios said: “We’re delighted to able to lift the curtain and share these glimpses of ANOTHER SIGHT, and we’ll be showing more of the adventures of Kit and Hodge later in the year as we lead players further down the rabbit hole closer to release. “

Together, Kit and Hodge will help each other explore the unknown as Hodge becomes Kits eyes, presenting a beautiful and unique world as they tackle environments and solve intriguing puzzles. As their bond grows, the pair will uncover a hidden society of the world’s greatest inventors and artistic minds such as Claude Monet, Nikola Tesla and other long-past cultural icons.

Another Sight Gameplay Features:

  • EMOTIVE DRIVEN – A story about a girl and her cat companion on a journey beyond sight and the real. A tale of warmth and intrigue is woven throughout the adventure, touching on trust, companionship and losing what we take for granted. Innovative gameplay and a story of heart is galvanized by a soundscape given life to by a symphonic orchestra to accent memorable moments between Kit, Hodge and the journey they’re on.
  • MASTERS OF THE PAST – Throughout the journey, Kit and Hodge will meet virtuoso artists such as Claude Monet and other cultural historical figures from the past, learning more about the world and dangers it presents. Each encounter visually impacts the world, taking on aesthetics of each creative movement from the famous characters Kit and Hodge meet.
  • STORY WOVEN GAMEPLAY – Use the unique abilities of each character to help Kit and Hodge traverse the world and overcome environmental challenges. Kit and Hodge can split up to investigate different areas of the locale that the other may not be able to reach, with both Kit and Hodge perceiving the world in very different ways, opening up different possibilities for overcoming their adventure.

ANOTHER SIGHT launches in 2018 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Founded in 2016 by CEO Marco Ponte, Lunar Great Wall Studios aims to combine expertise, creative talent and technology to create truly innovative, emotive games.

Viotek GN32LD 32-inch 144Hz 1440P Curved Gaming Monitor Review

Recently, I got to take a look at Viotek’s GN32LD curved gaming monitor. I had not heard of Viotek prior to looking at this display, so I went into this product review with no preconceived notions about the company or its products. So, I opened up the large box that Viotek shipped over and started unpacking everything.

In terms of design, the Viotek GN32LD curved gaming monitor is somewhat dated from the back as it and the stand feature these quasi-futuristic red plastic pieces that do provide some contrast from the primarily gray/gunmetal body. Despite this, it comes off looking like some display partner to one of those crazy 2005 PC gaming chassis with way too many plastic flange pieces for its own good. Now, from the front, the GN32LD looks pretty snazzy and features a fairly thin bezel, which is always a nice thing to feature on a large display. The stand and base units are easy to assemble with just a few screws and Viotek is nice enough to include the screwdriver and hex key. The monitor attaches to the stand in the way that most monitors do these days, it simply clicks into place. Viotek has provided four standoff screws that can be screwed into the back of the mounting area to allow you to use a VESA mount on the GN32LD. It should be noted that the stand of the GN32LD will not allow you to rotate the monitor – something that I find to be rather important on a display where the inputs are on the flat bottom.

The GN32LD features three inputs on the bottom of the monitor: DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI. There is also an audio output on the bottom of the monitor, which can be used with headphones should be looking to keep quiet with some late night gaming sessions – or just outputting the audio to some external stereo speakers. Also, the Viotek GN32LD does include a DisplayPort cable in the box which is great in case you forgot to buy one for your setup.

The Viotek GN32LD curved gaming monitor is a 16:9 display capable of displaying 2560×1440 resolution. Even with how much I love UltraWide gaming, this resolution has a big benefit over UltraWide displays. Primarily, those UltraWide displays are yet to be supported by game consoles like the Xbox One. This is very important – especially when specifically reviewing the GN32LD. Viotek has released this display with the purpose of being compatible with FreeSync on the Xbox One (and displaying 1440p resolution at 60Hz). Playing games on the Xbox One while using the Viotek GN32LD looks great, and I think one of the areas where the GN32LD really shines. For PC gaming, you can get the display running at 144Hz and there is not any noticeable ghosting at all when the action gets going. However, I did notice a slightly grainy or pixelated quality to the monitor’s picture when sitting about a foot away from it. I usually don’t sit so close to my monitors, but the GN32LD’s stand features a rear leg that pushes the display closer to you – and I have a narrow desk. Once I backed off a couple feet, the graininess was no longer an issue. This could be due to a slightly lower pixel density for its size but, again, once I backed off to a couple feet away, the picture was very nice and I had no complaints. Of course, this is at least in part thanks to the 1800R curve of the GN32LD.

The GN32LD’s on screen display is controlled by simple buttons on the bottom right of the monitor. It has a bit of a learning curve as the menu system is slightly clunky, but it’s nothing too bad. One of the options you can access is the color gamut of the display. Remember to set your color gamut, which is the range of colors capable of being displayed by the monitor, to full. There are numerous other settings to play around with in the on screen menu, such as picture quality, multi-window modes, and rear LED functionality. Take some time to play around with these to get your optimum viewing experience and, again, set that gamut to full before judging it – running the gamut on half will seriously degrade your picture quality.

In terms of pricing, the Viotek GN32LD is currently retailing for $469.99 which is very reasonable given its performance capabilities. Viotek does offer a really cool Dead Pixel Warranty policy in their one year warranty where they will replace the monitor if it has 1 or more dead pixels, 4 or more bright sub-pixels, 6 or more dark sub-pixels, or 5 or more mixed Bright or Dark sub-pixels. This is a terrific policy that ensures their customers will be happy with their purchase. We didn’t note any of these issues in the monitor we got to review.

Overall, the Viotek GN32LD curved gaming display is a good display at a reasonable $469.99 that will both allow you to enjoy FreeSync on your Xbox One game console as well as 144Hz 1440p resolution on your gaming PC. The Viotek GN32LD is available now at various online retailers as well as Viotek’s official website.

Opinion: San Diego Comic-Con Has Lost Its Soul

By now, everyone has heard about the annual event that occurs in San Diego that has become the Mecca for all things geek. Officially called Comic Con International: San Diego by the organizers, most of us know it as the San Diego Comic Con, SDCC, or simply as Comic Con. Beginning as the U.S Grant Hotel in 1970 with 145 attendees, Comic Con now takes up every square foot that the San Diego Convention Center has to offer, plus many satellite locations throughout the Gaslamp area, and is visited by well over 130,000+ individuals. What many people don’t know is how much Comic Con has changed since its humble beginnings, and how this change has affected many long time attendees and vendors negatively, with myself included.

Time’s Change Old Man! Get Used To It!

Ok, so let’s discuss the elephant in the room first and get that out of the way. First, a little history about me and Comic Con. I attended my first Comic Con back in about 1994 (could be 1993…damn memory), with my good friend Phil. He had told me about Comic Con and said that I should come down with him. I remember walking up to the Sails Pavilion to register, paid my fee (which under $50 for the full con), signed my name on the badge and went in. What I found at Comic Con that day would change my summers for the next twenty two years.
Comic Con was everything that I wanted in a comic convention. I had attended many events before Comic Con and Phil and I even put together our own comic convention in Anaheim (that is a whole other story), but nothing compared to the glory that was Comic Con. For the first five years of attending, the floor never saw more than 50,000 attendees. Meeting your favorite artist or writer was extremely easy and rewarding. I have memories of meeting people like Dave McKean, Jim Valentino, Jim Lee, Mike Mignola, Charles Vess, Frank Miller, Kelly Jones, and Glenn Danzig on the show floor. My original sketch from Dave McKean is still my most prized trophy from Comic Con.

But then 2002 happened. Before 2002, Comic Con had indeed been increasing in attendance. Every year, about 5,000 or so more people found their way to San Diego, but even with this increase the show floor nor halls ever felt over crowded. We were able to just walk right into many of the panels during this time period, with the Ray Bradbury/Ray Harryhausen panel being the highlight for me. But in 2002, Spiderman was shown to the attendees to a massive, positive reception. Spiderman went on to bring in well over $800 million, so Hollywood began to see a connection between positive Comic Con exposure and box office revenues. In 2003, Hollywood began to bring more and more shows, stars, and non-comic properties to Comic Con. This increased presence by Hollywood meant an increase in attendance, with most people coming down to get a glimpse at the movie stars that come to the con. From 2002-2003, attendance jumped 13,000 while in 2003-2004 it jumped again another 25,000 people. This would become the norm from now on, until Comic Con finally sold out its first ever event in 2008. Why was 2008 so special? Twilight.

What this all means is that Comic Con began as a simple convention that celebrated comics and the culture around comics. What it has turned into now is a geek culture event. I have watched the con change from mostly about comics and the culture around them, to anything and everything that someone who considers themselves a “geek” might be interested. Cosplay? Yup it’s there. Movies and television shows? Everywhere you turn. Video games? Yup, that too. Anime? Absolutely.

So, time’s change and things change with them. I get it. I’m one of the old timers that is sitting on my porch, shaking my fist at the kids in cosplay, yelling “That ain’t my con! Let me tell ya ‘bout them good ole days…”. And those kids are shaking their heads, and rightfully so. My final year of going to Comic Con was in 2015, but I was only attending Comic Con for those last few years because it was something that I had done for so long. The crowds are too much, there was less and less things that I was interested in buying on the show floor, and forget about getting into ANY panel, let alone the popular ones without camping out overnight. Comic Con’s Soul was different and it wasn’t something I liked.

Comic Con 2005 (L to R: Ray, Adam, Myself, Phil)

Bud Plant, Mile High Comics, and…..Bob the Angry Flower?!?!

Part of this change from comic focus to general geek focus is the casualties along the way. The cold, hard fact is that comics are far less popular today than they were in the 90s. Comic Con had to evolve in order to stay solvent. However, this meant a shift in the show floor, much to my dislike. Artists’ Alley has become a shadow of its former self, being pushed more and more into a corner, and the Small Press section has tables that sell luchador masks, or naked pictures of girls cosplaying as trademarked characters. This is what the fans want, I get it, but if the section is for Small Press comic writers and artists then keep the masks and porn out of it. One day, there will be a con without Bob the Angry Flower in the Small Press section, and Comic Con will be poorer for it.

But what really caused me to write this essay, was the loss of two iconic vendors from the show floor; Mile High Comics and Bud Plant. Chuck Rozanski, owner of Denver based Mile High Comics, ended his 44 year run in 2017. Chuck described Comic Con as having “grown far beyond its original premise, morphing from what was originally a wonderful annual gathering of the comics world, into a world-renown pop culture and media festival”. Chuck then cites “rapidly escalating costs, and also a dramatic change in the demographics of its attendees” as two reasons to not continue attending Comic con as a vendor himself.

This year, Bud Plant also called it quits from Comic Con. Bud Plant is one of two vendors that has attended every con, from 1970 until present. 47 years straight Comic Con had a Bud Plant booth on the show floor, but not this year. In May, Bud Plant announced on Facebook that they would not be making the trip to San Diego this year. I remember the first time I saw Bud Plant’s booth at Comic Con. When I say booth, what I really mean to say is aisle. Bud Plant had 11 booths that would make up of his section on the floor, and would take up most of the aisle. But in 2008 (the year Twilight made its Comic Con appearance, remember?) Bud Plant has been shrinking his booth count until it was down to just one. Like Chuck, he says that “the attendees these days are, in general, not our customers or they are not looking for books”. He continues to say that “many former customers can’t get tickets or have chosen to stop coming”. Bud Plant will continue to do the smaller shows that focuses on comics and rare books, but will no longer support Comic Con as a vendor.

To me, a Comic Con without Mile High Comics and Bud Plant just isn’t a Comic Con anymore. Well, at least we still have Bob the Angry Flower, but for how much longer?

Comic Con 2012 (Less Hair, More Crowds)

Ok, Grumpy Old Man, but What’s Your Point?

So really, what is the point to writing this? The old Comic Con crowd who reads this probably already feels the same way I do and stopped going years ago, and the new Comic Con crowd is too busy getting the finishing touches on their cosplay and coordinating their Hall H team to get into Saturday’s programming. So, if I’m not trying to convince one side or the other to come over to my point of view, why write this? Emotional closure is why, this is a eulogy. When something has been in your life for so long and it comes to an end or has changed to the point that it no longer fits your image of what it should be, it hurts.

Since 2015, I have undergone many life changing (shattering?) moments that I have had to deal with and say good bye to. I have had to say good bye to two cousins, an uncle, a marriage, two houses and Comic Con. While Comic Con is most definitely the last on this list in terms of priority (hence why it’s taken 3 years to write this), to say that it hasn’t had a major impact on my life is to be insincere.

I do not blame the people in charge of Comic Con for the change, they had to do what was necessary and they succeeded in making Comic Con the premiere event of its kind. Only the New York Comic Con can even come close. I don’t blame the cosplayer, the Twilight fan, the guy selling luchadore masks or the girl selling nude photos of herself in cosplay, each of these people have made Comic Con work for them, just like I did. Each one has something different they want Comic Con to be, and for them that’s great. So, who is to blame for this change? Time. Change is inevitable, either you like it or you don’t, but you can’t stop it. So, Comic Con, keep doing what it is you do. Hopefully, one day, Hollywood will leave Comic Con to the people it was created for, the comic fans.

Comic Con is dead. Long Live Comic Con.

I think I miss this the most…

These are just some of the memories of Comic Con that I keep with me, these are in no particular order and I don’t remember years anymore.

⦁ My son’s first con.
⦁ My daughter’s first con.
⦁ My son’s face the first time he saw someone that he recognized from tv (Adam Sessler from X-Play).

F1 2018 to Allow Career Players to do Media Interviews

Larkspur, Calif. – July 5, 2018 – Codemasters® has today released the first of a four part series of developer diaries for F1® 2018, the official videogame of the 2018 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™, which reveals how you can ‘Make Headlines’ both on and off the track. New, time-pressured press interviews at key moments throughout your career will put you in the spotlight and immerse you into the world of F1 more than ever before.

The new developer diary, available to view now at www.youtube.com/formula1game, details how your interactions with Claire, the new reporter character in F1 2018, will shape the way in which you are seen in the sport and directly affect your career. Will you choose to exhibit showmanship or sportsmanship? Your answers can increase/decrease the motivation within departments in your own team, altering the price or reliability of upgrades, as well as any offers you might receive from rival teams.

“The media are going to play a huge part in the player’s career,” commented F1 2018’s Game Director, Lee Mather. “It’s super important for a driver to not just be skilled on track. It’s all about being the complete package. The player is going to need to consider how their answers impact the morale of their team and also how other teams in the paddock perceive them.

Lee continued: “Certain teams may like to see a driver who is a great sportsman: demure and calm in front of the press, even under high-pressure situations, while others may want a driver who is more of a showman who can create buzz.”

The answers available to you will develop over time as your character becomes better known within F1. The interviews will take place in new locations in the Paddock and in front of the team and scrutineering garages.

There are further improvements within the career mode. You now have more control over your destiny and can approach rival teams about a potential move, including the opportunity to switch within the season. You also have the opportunity to select your own championship rival.

Details of further enhancements to the career mode will be unveiled in part two of the developer diary series.

Knott’s Celebrates National Fried Chicken Day 2018

July 5, 2018 – Before there was the Colonel, or chicken and waffles, there was a Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant, in the middle of a berry farm in Buena Park, California.

The history of Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant started in June 1934 when Cordelia Knott served the first fried chicken dinner meal for 65 cents each on the land that is today known as Knott’s Berry Farm. To make ends meet during the Great Depression, Cordelia served these chicken dinners on her best wedding china. The success of the chicken dinners was immediate and by 1940, visitors were standing in line for hours to try Cordelia’s famous fried chicken.

Mrs. Knott’s signature fried chicken dinner meal continues to be served with its family-style dining that includes deliciously herb-seasoned fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, tossed green salad, cherry rhubarb, kernel corn, freshly-made buttermilk biscuits with butter and boysenberry preserve; and a slice of Mrs. Knott’s scrumptious boysenberry pie for dessert. Each meal is freshly prepared by the Knott’s culinary team with the freshest ingredients. Today the kitchen serves an average of 1,000 chicken meals per day and serves a grand total of 1.5 million guests per year.

For National Fried Chicken Day, Knott’s invites guests to Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant for the opportunity to savor the tastiest fried chicken this side of the west. Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant and Knott’s Chicken-To-Go are offering a special 10% discount for diners between 11am-2pm and 8pm-10pm exclusively on July 6th. Plus, that day guests will have the opportunity to experience special restaurant photo ops and an exclusive Snapchat filter that will make those fried chicken photos extra fun.

Past Cure Gets Huge Patch and Redesign

Berlin, Germany, July 5th, 2018 –Phantom 8, a Berlin-based indie developer, is pleased to announce a raft of additions and enhancements to Past Cure that presents the studio’s title in a whole new light.

Changes include new story elements, cinematics, redesigned levels, reworked sanity meter, and the addition of new abilities; allowing you to interact more with the environment and experience Ian’s story in a more compelling and engaging way.

The updated and enhanced Past Cure is available to download now for PC, and will release in the coming weeks for PlayStation and Xbox One.

“We were astounded by the level of feedback the community offered. The response to Past Cure has been incredible, and for a small studio, we’ve been really humbled by the positive contribution fans have made,” said Simon Gerdesmann, Phantom 8’s Managing Director. “We also listened to the things that didn’t resonate as we would have hoped, and have made a swathe of changes, additions, enhancements, redesigns to really bring out the best in Past Cure, a true labour of love for us.”

Other enhancements include improved auto-aim, new and improved voice overs, improved texturing and graphical upgrades and more.

Updated Features:
New areas and redesigned levels

Entirely new areas have been created to enable more immersive gameplay in levels that have been redesigned to offer a more challenging, and ultimately more enjoyable experience for the player.

More mind-bending abilities

In Past Cure, players have many different abilities, but to create more ways to play, and feel even more powerful, two new abilities have been added.
Mind bash allows you to stun or kill enemies and destroy objects within the environment.
Mind Fly creates a shield around Ian, which utilises sanity as the hits reign in, giving you a useful addition to your journey, but one that comes at a cost.

A story that continues to unfold

Throughout Past Cure, cinematics have been reworked to tell more of the story loved by its fans, and splintered across its levels are more elements of the backstory to discover.

Reworked Sanity Meter

The new sanity meter doesn’t recover from under 35%, and as it depletes toward zero, the nightmares from Ian’s dream world begin to surface in the real world, creating a new threat. Ian will have to decide upon fight or flight against these new foes until his sanity recovers.

Winner of multiple awards – including Best Storytelling at White Nights, Public Choice Award at Game Connection 2017, nominated for best emotional game in the Emotional Game awards, and for Best Indie Game at GamesCom 2017 – PAST CURE sees you play as Ian, a former special operations soldier unsure of his surroundings, and desperate to make sense of the last few years.

After the victim of experimentation and torture in prison, Ian’s mind has become fractured. His captors left him scarred with unrelenting nightmares, visions and new unstable and largely unexplainable powers such as time manipulation and telekinesis. Drifting between reality and hallucinogenic states, Ian must make sense of the world around him as he sets out on a path of revenge and discovery, uncertain of what awaits around the next corner.

Developed by an eight-person studio, PAST CURE is Phantom 8’s debut game. It launches globally at digital and retail, echoing modern film making in its cinematic design, and redefining the quality that can be achieved with a small, but focused studio.

PAST CURE is available now at retail and digitally for PlayStation 4 & Xbox One and Steam.
