Hunt: Showdown Gets Early Access Update 2.1

FRANKFURT, Germany – July 16, 2018 – Even more new content for Hunt: Showdown, Crytek’s early access multiplayer bounty hunting game, went live today with the release of Update 2.1, coming hot on the heels of the release of Update 2. Update 2.1’s two biggest additions are both community-requested features: a partner spectator mode for players who die during a match and a new mission type with heavy fog.

With Update 2.1, players will also get access to more weapons and the usual slew of improvements and bug fixes. New weapons included in the update are the Crossbow, Hand Crossbow, Poisonhand Crossbow, Throwing Knives, a Specter with bayonet, a Sparks with silencer, a Winfield with silencer, and a Combat Axe. Two related traits have also been added—Bolt Thrower and Bolt Seer—which will give any bow slinger additional prowess. Fixes range from menu tweaks to weapon balancing, and the details are all available in the Update Patch Notes.

“Seeing the reactions of the community and working closely with their feedback to fine-tune the direction of the game has been an incredible process,” said Loic Raimond (Live Service Producer) of Hunt’s early access process. “It feels like a truly collaborative process, and the game is all the better—and more fun—for it.”

Cherry MX 6.0 Mechanical Keyboard Review

My last gaming keyboard died after five valiant years of service.  As I mourned the loss, our Editor-in-Chief looked around his office to ship me something he knew I would like: A new keyboard!  Sure enough the Cherry MX 6.0 mechanical gaming keyboard arrived in the mail in a black and red box with the words Cherry on the side.  I went to pick it up, almost fumbled with the unsuspecting heavy weight in my hand and pulled the keyboard out while simultaneously shoving a temporary, no-name keyboard that was keeping my desk warm off to the side to give the Cherry MX 6.0 a place to land.

My first impression of the Cherry MX 6.0 keyboard is that it is hefty! It actually weighs 4.8 pounds (the average mechanical keyboard on the market is closer to 3.3) and feels really solid on your desktop.  The top of the Cherry MX 6.0 keyboard is one large piece of sanded aluminum, with punches for the keys and metal stamped around the directional keys.  The back isn’t snapped on but instead a thick plastic with multiple screws attaching it to the top section.  This all shows the commitment to quality and design that the name “Cherry” is known for in the keyboard field (they started in 1973, believed to be one of the first keyboard companies).  The legs on the underside to tilt up the keyboard are really strong feeling and snap into place with a satisfying click.  However, the hefty keyboard weight and size means you probably won’t want to use this keyboard for travel or on your lap – this is meant for your desktop.

The next thing that Cherry is known for is their mechanical key switches and they are, of course, found in the Cherry MX 6.0 keyboard.  These Cherry MX Red keys are built for speedy actuation and clicky response.  The Cherry MX 6.0 keyboard features a Windows key lockout, which I love, that disables the Windows key in case you are prone to hit it by mistake while gaming.  That can mess you up so bad and is one of the most understated, yet important features of many modern day gaming keyboards.  Cherry also added a visual cue on the keyboard if the Windows button is disabled or not. If it is active it lights up blue, but if it is disabled the button becomes the same color red as all the other keys.

Which brings us to the the Cherry MX 6.0 back lighting.  The no-name, cheap keyboard I was using didn’t have an actual name but it did change back lighting colors.  These days, most gaming keyboards go the extra mile and have full RGB lighting, which enables the keyboard lighting to be especially eye-catching and vibrant. Save for a couple of status keys which turn blue, you are looking at only having red back lighting on your keys. While the lighting is decent and does the job of allowing keys to be seen in dark conditions, it just isn’t very stylish.

The Cherry MX 6.0 mechanical keyboard also comes with large wrist rest made from a rubberized material.  Being made from this rubberized material, it is fairly easy to clean and fairly comfortably.  The best part about the wrist rest is that it attaches and detaches from the Cherry MX 6.0 keyboard by way of magnets! This means that you won’t have to deal with cheap plastic clips like on some less expensive gaming keyboards.

At around $200 dollars depending on your reseller, the price might be a little higher than most mechanical keyboards. Those who know keyboards well will respect the Cherry brand and its assured 50 million key stroke durability and quality. However, this cost may be too high for some gamers – especially when the Cherry MX 6.0 does not feature the flashy RGB lighting that other keyboards do in this price range. The Cherry MX 6.0 keyboard is available now.

GVS Elipse P100 Half Mask Respirator Review

I have spent many days of my life in rundown, sometimes abandoned structures located in a multitude of airsoft game arenas. Sometimes these locations are abandoned military bases – other times factories, mills, etc. Whatever the location, protecting yourself against airborne particulates and whatnot is very important. The problem is that usually respirators and gas masks are often cumbersome, hard to wear with ANSI/ballistic rated eye protection, and simply hard to breathe in while running around. GVS has a potential solution in their Elipse P100 half mask respirator.

I wore the GVS P100 during this year’s Operation Lionclaws event at George Air Force base in Southern California. This location is home to many structures in various states of disrepair. These structures often have their guts torn open, spilling dust and insulation as well as plaster everywhere. You can see an example of one of these structures here:

Protection-wise, the GVS Elipse P100 stood up to BB hits much better than I was expecting it to. Thankfully, its TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomer) body is more than capable of bouncing BB hits while the filter cage plastic is also durable. Now, there does stand a small risk of a BB getting through the cages and embedding into the filter material or output valve. However, I think this is a low chance of happening – still, it is something to consider if you absolutely need protection over air quality. Some game rules might not allow for this half mask respirator, so check with your game hosts prior to assuming it can be used.

While at Lionclaws this year, wearing the GVS P100, my experience was far different than before, as I no longer found myself choking or coughing after romping through these structures or spending time posted up inside of them. The GVS P100 did its job VERY well and kept out all the particulates that usually affected me. Out of the box, the GVS P100 is equipped with two HESPA (High Efficiency Synthetic Particulate Airfilter) filters, but the company also makes odor filters as well which are not meant for anti-particulate use – I would not recommend those for airsoft purposes.

One of the largest concerns I had about wearing the GVS P100 was how I would handle wearing it while running, etc. I found that it was more comfortable to pull them down around my neck outside so that I could feel the cooler air on my face and breath normally. Pulling the mask back up on my face while entering and operating in structures, I didn’t find any breathing issues to speak of. What was most uncomfortable was the sweat that would build up and pool inside the mask. Every so often I would pull the GVS P100 forward and pour out the liquid (yeah I know… sexy). That being said, the price of breathing purified and particulate-free air was worth it, and I have no qualms about packing the GVS P100 with me for my next game.

My biggest issue with the GVS P100 half mask respirator is that it is not available in other colors, or even camo schemes, as it is meant as a serious piece of PPE (personal protective equipment) and not for airsoft. However, if GVS ever wants to make other colors available, I would be first in line. Also, please note that they offer the P100 in both S/M and M/L sizes, so refer to the sizing chart in this article for more info.

Overall, the GVS P100 half mask respirator is a terrific option for those players looking to protect their lungs while playing airsoft in inhospitable environments. Just make sure your game control allows it. The GVS P100 is available now for around $30 dollars depending on where you shop – a huge bargain for such a comfortable respirator.
