InnoGames Unveils E3 2013 Line Up

Kartuga_Screenshot_PvE05

Hamburg, June 5, 2013. Online games publisher InnoGames debuts the latest projects in its cross-platform gaming approach at E3 in Los Angeles next week. The company plans to unveil a Forge of Empires iPad app, as well smartphone apps (Android and iOS) for Grepolis. Both projects work together with their existing browser counterparts to create a seamless gaming experience – allowing gamers to play with one account on all devices.

InnoGames CEO Hendrik Klindworth is confident that “cross-platform is definitely the future of gaming. It is technically very challenging to offer a perfect gaming experience for desktop browsers, tablets and smartphones at the same time. On the other hand, there is a lot to gain for those who manage to”, he believes. InnoGames has opted for individual technology decisions for each project. The Grepolis apps utilize Adobe Air, while Cocos2D-X is the framework of choice for the iPad version of Forge of Empires. These technologies enable InnoGames to offer an optimal performance and thereby the best gaming experience for users.

The ambitious cross-platform approach is used to expand the player numbers of the original browser-based company further. “Our mobile versions will be able to compete with the best mobile-exclusive games on the market”, Klindworth explains. Before Grepolis and Forge of Empires, InnoGames began this initiative by releasing the classic browser title Tribal Wars on iOS and Android devices. More than 200,000 users per month are using the apps already. The company also has several projects in the works that will be released as cross-platform at launch-time.

InnoGames has developed and published major browser game titles like Forge of Empires, Tribal Wars and The West. With about 100 million registered users, the German company belongs to the biggest developers and publishers of online games.

Starship Battles Review (iOS)

img_0580

When I was just a young lad, I discovered that I was wickedly-good at Missile Command.  My sister’s boyfriends, on the way to her room, would hear the sounds coming from mine, see a little six year old boy with an Atari joystick and think “time to school the kid.”  Several hours and screams from my sister later the ex-boyfriend would be on his way out the door thoroughly defeated and promising a rematch.  They did come back often too, in order to try their luck at the game instead of my sister, and none could top my score.  As other games came along, I lost interest in Missile Command, but never did lose the high score on it in our house. Fast forward to today and I find myself reviewing a game that though amazingly superior in its visuals, has an eerie resemblance in game play.

Starship Battles Description:

Graphically, Starship Battles presents in full 3D, with high resolution environments and science-fiction warships.  In addition, game play is greatly enhanced by simple and responsive controls.  As the player commandeers the warship’s battle-station, he is awarded fantastic visual effects as his weapons fire and enemy ships explode in brilliant 3D.  The player can spend soft currency to upgrade and design his fleet.   Designer ships come with visual personalization, War-Paint, and instant game-play bonuses.

At product launch, Starship Battles offers five highly detailed ships, each with five War-Paints.  Additional ships will follow.  The game begins with the avatar mounting only one Frigate to defend the galaxy against an infinite force of relentless aliens.  The Cruiser, Destroyer, Battleship and Corvette wait to be purchased with minerals earned through game-play.  Victories and achievements are posted at Game Center through social media integration, lending another dimension to extend competitive game-play.

Hands On:

So instead of a whole bunch of bases like in Missile Command you have one ship and your screen is large enough that you need to pan around.  Instead of missiles making a beeline at you it is little ships with remarkable detail for thier size and if you pan around the screen you will see some larger stationary ships that are launching the small ones.  You just cruise your view around space and touch the screen to fire a missile, fire a nuke or collect a mineral.

Collect enough minerals or pay enough real life cash and you can change the paint job on your ship or purchase four other ones.  That is the whole game.  Fire at little kamikaze ships, fire at ship carriers, collect minerals for paint jobs and new ships.  It has an arcade style simplicity of play that dates back over three decades with state of the art 3D retina graphics.  Of and I forgot to mention the price… two bucks.

Last Call:

This game looks good enough to probably trick kids into thinking it is a new style of game while also getting them to experience old school arcade gaming. You could also play it for yourself and relive childhood memories with graphics that no longer hurt the eyes.  While Starship Battles certainly didn’t invent this kind of arcade play style – it does make it look sexy!

Sins of a Solar Empire: Forbidden Worlds DLC Released

Oceanic

PLYMOUTH, MI – June 5, 2013 – The popular PC space strategy game, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, from Ironclad Games and Stardock Entertainment has released its first DLC pack today. “Forbidden Worlds” adds new planet types, planet specialization, technologies, planetary bonuses and additional Steam achievements all for $4.99.

The war between the loyalists and the rebels within the TEC, Advent and Vasari continues within the depths of Trader Space.  Yet, this sector of the galaxy has far more worlds and history than any of the factions are aware. The need to survive forces each to expand into the unknown, discovering worlds of hazard, wealth, risk, and mystery. Most ominously, the Trader factions have been loathe to expand to these worlds due to the dark myths that surround them.

Feature List:

•   Four new planet types to colonize and exploit (Barren, Ferrous, Greenhouse, Oceanic), each created with beautiful high-res textures.

•   New Planet Specialization System:  Dedicate your worlds to either social or industrial output. Devoting your planet to social improvements will increase its population and culture, at the cost of trade income and ship production. Choosing an industrial path will limit your growth and culture, but make your planet a trading and ship building powerhouse.

•   15 new research subjects allow the races to conquer and expand onto the forbidden worlds.

•   Discover 40 new planet bonuses during your exploration of the galaxy, unlocking the dark past of the Sins’ universe.

•   Unlock five new Steam Achievements and display your mastery of forbidden space!

The Forbidden Worlds DLC is available direct, as well as on Steam, GameStop, GamersGate and GameFly.

Rise of Venice Announced

SeaBattle2

June 5, 2013 – Kalypso Media today unveiled its latest strategy/trading simulation, Rise of Venice, for Windows PC. Rise of Venice drops players in the Renaissance era, where they start out as a young merchant, looking to make his mark and build a trading empire. Begin with a meager group of trading ships and build them into a mercantile fleet that will make your enemies and friends alike green with jealousy as you fill your coffers with gold! Rise of Venice is much more than trading, however, as Renaissance Europe was filled with treachery and political machinations of all sorts – which you must take part in if you plan to succeed!

Screenshots

Venice was at the peak of its power during the Renaissance and was viewed as a city of decadence, beauty and intrigue.  Renowned as the linchpin of civilisation and the cultural centre of Europe, Venice was the most important trading post between Western Europe and the eastern stretch of the Mediterranean Sea.  It was also the stage for political corruptions and clandestine dealings.
This is where your story begins.  As a young man striving for success, power and wealth and with the support of your family, you begin to build up a trading empire across Genoa, Tripoli, Rome, Alexandria, and Constantinople in addition to many other significant cities from the Renaissance.  As you progress through the ranks of Venetian society, increasing your power with smart trading moves and calling in the occasional favour, you can begin to assemble your own fleet.  With this you will start to build up new production facilities and test yourself in challenging sea battles where you will face off against pirates as well as political enemies.
Features of Rise of Venice:
  • Experience a compelling story full of intrigue and treason in Venice at the time of the Renaissance
  • Trade a variety of goods in the most important cities of the time such as Rome, Alexandria, Constantinople and Athens.
  • With your own family tree you can interact with your family members, send them on missions and watch how the power of your family grows over time.
  • Meet other important families who are pulling the strings in Venice’s government and influence political decisions yourself.
  • Build your own production facilities and trading fleets
  • Take fate into your own hands and test your skills in furious sea battles
  • Multiplayer mode for up to 4 players via LAN and Internet
Rise of Venice will be available digitally on Windows PC in October 2013. For more information please visit www.kalypsomedia.com
