CATAN – Console Edition Official Launch Trailer

Dovetail Games announced CATAN – Console Edition is out today, giving fans of the hugely popular board game a means to play with friends online, or to gather them round the couch and in front of a board that truly comes to life! The official console version of the international board game hit, available digitally for PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox One and Series X|S consoles, has been in development courtesy of publisher Dovetail Games, with help from their friends over at Nomad Games.

Players will immerse themselves in an animated board, populated with characters farming and mining resources, sheep roaming their respective hexes and the Robber waiting for their moment to move. Ships occupy the surrounding harbours and Settlements and Cities appear as players continue to build and trade with one another.

Success comes with earning Victory Points, which can be gained in various ways including building the ‘Longest Road’ or amassing the ‘Largest Army’. Building Cities and Settlements also earn these points with the five key resources on the island needed to build and expand in the areas between the hexes. Strategy is key to success and players will have to decide throughout each game whether to plough on with their own building, or work with their opponents, AI or real, by trading resources and moving the Robber in order to thwart others’ progress.

CATAN has always been about playing together and with the Card Companion on smartphones, players can all gather around one TV without the risk of seeing the resources that others have. Online play utilized cross-play to ensure PlayStation and Xbox players can enjoy CATAN – Console Edition together and solo players can tackle the various AI characters based on CATAN lore that each have their own way of building and trading.

There are a host of challenges to complete in a game where no two boards are the same and players can customise their experience with Dice Skins and Hex Frames showcasing their skills to other players. Those that follow the real-life CATAN World Championships can also play on five game boards featured in previous years’ World, European and American competitions by purchasing the Deluxe Edition of the game.

The Thaumaturge Revealed by 11 bit Studios and Fool’s Theory

After an extended period of time researching all that is mystical and mysterious, the publishing and development teams at 11 bit studios and Fool’s Theory are proud to reveal The Thaumaturge. A story-driven RPG with a unique take on combat, character development features, and investigation mechanics, touching upon the complex theme of inner demons, The Thaumaturge unfolds in the culturally diverse capital of Warsaw in early 20th century Poland after it has been annexed by the Russian Empire. Putting players in the position to take on morally ambiguous choices, they step into a spiritual world driven by powers concealed beyond the comprehension of ordinary men

In 1905, and under the yoke of imperial Russian tsardom, Warsaw is a city of conspicuous contrasts. Poverty and hooliganism are as much its shades as high society wealth and political plotting. A place in which the individual interests of groups with diverse beliefs—Jews, Poles, and Russians—are often in conflict, and in which one man’s big chance can mean another man’s untimely demise.

Existing in the supernatural cracks between the real world and the shadows of this story-rich isometric RPG are esoteric beings called Salutors. Wielding immense power, only a Thaumaturge can truly perceive a Salutor and use their unique abilities to their whims. Thaumaturges—able to pry deep into the crevices of the human personality to the very core of one’s psyche—will find a person’s honest intentions and surreptitious desires alongside someone’s shameful secrets, distortions, exaggerations, and imperfections. Faithfully obeying their masters, Salutors allow Thaumaturges to manipulate humans, preying on their secrets and insecurities, bending one’s will to their own needs while changing the world surrounding them. As for turn-based combat, Salutors, with their roots coming from various cultures, serve as a powerful force, highly useful during dangerous encounters in the dark alleys of districts like Praga.

“The Thaumaturge revolves around the idea of demons both on physical, and metaphorical layers. After all, it’s a game infused with 11 bit studios’ philosophy of meaningful entertainment. Its theme is evoked in different areas of the game with gameplay mechanics or narrative aspects being only a part of those,” states Fool’s Theory Design Director, Karolina Kuzia-Rokosz. While the old saying goes “everyone has their own demons”, playing The Thaumaturge will make gamers realize that not everything has to always mean what it seems.

“Fool’s Theory has proven to be a great studio to materialize our desire to add a meaningful RPG to our portfolio,” praises Marek Ziemak, Chief Production Officer at 11 bit studios. “And with a hefty team of around 60 people and an appropriately scaled budget, The Thaumaturge is our biggest publishing project to date, which resembles the scope of the first Frostpunk. And one especially close to our hearts thanks to being set in a place many of us were born and raised, which we’re tied with, and which we believe hasn’t yet seen a proper representation in any game. Summing that up, we’re more than thrilled to shed light on what we’ve shaped in the more than four years since the initial idea emerged”.

A gameplay demo of The Thaumaturge will be presented behind closed doors at this year’s GDC, happening in March in San Francisco.

Strayed Lights Official Gameplay Trailer Released

Developer Embers has unveiled the first gameplay trailer for upcoming action adventure game Strayed Lights, set to launch April 25 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GoG. The video details the innovative and challenging combat system that will lie at the center of a tiny lights’ journey to achieve awakening and overcome their inner demons. By shifting between orange and blue states of being, one can parry enemy attacks and, if timed correctly, absorb their opponent’s energy for powerful onslaughts capable of incredible damage.

As a PAX Rising Showcase 2023 inductee set to be featured on PAX East 2023’s show floor, Strayed Lights immerses players in a mystical and ruinous world brought to life by intuitive, snappy and smart combat design. Combined with an immersive, non-dialogue based narrative, a hand-painted-like art direction, and a meditative soundtrack composed by the Grammy award-winning Austin Wintory, Strayed Lights will refine evocative video game experiences when it releases soon.

In Strayed Lights, players will embody an unbalanced being of light and darkness on its path towards awakening. By mastering the game’s combat flow, a tiny light will evolve to help soothe the souls of daunting adversaries tormented by their own inner demons. Counter, parry, and strike with precision to fully realize the art on display in Strayed Lights’ combat.

“Strayed Lights will be an unforgettable experience for action adventure fans of all ages when it releases across most modern gaming platforms in a few weeks,” says Alexandre Arramon, co-founder and creative director at Embers. “From a combat system designed to be easy-to-learn but challenging-to-master to an intricate universe based on emotions that everyone can feel connected to, we put our heart and soul into our first game. We’re all extremely proud of the outcome and can’t wait to share it with the world soon. In the meantime, we’re excited for fans to get their first hands-on time with the game at this year’s PAX East.”

Strayed Lights will launch April 25 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GoG.
