Dreadnought Launch Trailer

HOUSTON – Oct. 15, 2018 – Six Foot has announced that Dreadnought, the free-to-play tactical shooter featuring massive capital ships, has officially launched* on Steam for Windows PC today. Titled Command the Colossal, this launch update to the game includes a new visual look with new UI enhancements, as well as support for two additional languages: Russian and simplified Chinese. PC players can link their Dreadnought and Steam accounts to continue playing with their existing achievements.

LA Haunted Hayride 2018 Review

The LA Haunted Hayride is back for 2018, this time celebrating its 10th anniversary. With the event now under the umbrella of the Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group, how does this year’s hayride compare to its previous incarnations? Well, for that, we need to travel back in time to 2012 – the first time we reviewed the LA Haunted Hayride. At that point it was, without a doubt, the best haunted attraction in Southern California. And it remained so for two years after that. Unfortunately, things started to take a downturn for the event when the New York Haunted Hayride opened up. Their resources seemed split down the middle and the event lost some of its charm. Last year, we were especially concerned at the state of the LA Haunted Hayride.

This year, the LA Haunted Hayride has taken a huge stride in the right direction and managed to recapture much of that Midwestern Halloween carnival vibe that it started out with.

We began the night walking through the entry area of the LA Haunted Hayride, enjoying some new animatronics and decorations as well as the various monsters roaming the grounds. Last year, The Purgatory haunted village felt empty. The loss of the pumpkin carving booth and the photo gallery were palpable and we spent much of the night thinking of better uses for the, no pun intended, “dead” space. This year, the event still has no photo gallery or pumpkin carving booth, but designers have redesigned the flow of the Purgatory area to make better use of what they do have. It feels much less empty than before and even adds a cool zombie brain toss carnival game for guests to try their luck at. The Scary-Go-Round is also back and is a blast to ride. I still wish they’d bring back the dedicated photo gallery, it was a really fun way for guests to spend some time and take the strain off the hayride line. The main stage is also back and has some really fun audience-participation based shows throughout the night. During your visit, you should make sure to sit in on one of the shows.

The titular hayride of the LA Haunted Hayride is back and a terrific experience. No longer do you have to get out midway through the ride and walk through a haunted maze, then re-embark on the hayride to continue. This is pure LA Haunted Hayride goodness – all hayride, all the time. This year sees several of the scenes that captured the screams of riders over the last ten years and, with the exception of not seeing those bird people swinging down on those tall poles, I was very happy with those they selected. The hayride is a blast and worth riding a couple times from each side of the cart to check out what you might have missed. Also, I am not 100% sure, but the wagons feel wider this year and the hay they are using is much softer for some reason. Even on past opening nights, the hay would stick to you and you end up bringing a good deal of it home. This time, that was not the case – have they changed the kind of hay they use or is this simply my imagination? The world may never know, but I like it!

After our ride on the hayride, we walked back to the Purgatory area and sat at one of the benches, eating some snacks. The atmosphere and general vibe of the event felt “good”. It once again had that Midwest Halloween carnival feel that made me fall in love with it to begin with. We sat at those benches for probably a half an hour, just watching and taking in the event. One of the things I have always admired about the LA Haunted Hayride are its monsters. Their costumes, makeup, and attention to character is outstanding. I have tried ad nauseam and none have ever broken character. This year is no different and you will find all manner of creatures roaming the grounds – some in amazing, large costumes with props I have never seen before. Even when Purgatory was a bit empty, the monsters could still be found in-character, roaming the grounds.

The House of Shadows dark maze is back again and is pretty much the same as it has been. It’s fun and allows guests to pass the time wandering through black hallways looking for an exit. It’s a gimmick, but it works and does adds value to your ticket price.

The “Grub Shack” snack cart is actually one of the weaker points of this year’s LA Haunted Hayride. At some point in the event’s history, they switched food vendors and the one they ended up going with made some strange choices. Their caramel apple slices are simply apple slices covered in cold caramel sauce, not actual hot caramel like it originally was back in the beginning. Also, they don’t serve hot chocolate like the previous vendor did. I can’t imagine it would be that difficult to put a Keurig unit in the cart and whip up hot chocolate in thirty seconds time when requested, but I digress. This vendor also makes the choice to put ketchup in a self-serve dispenser at the pick-up window but then pre-slathers their burgers with “burger sauce”. Just make the burgers dry and let guests put their own sauce on them – it would actually save them some trouble AND make them more money (as I would buy one then). Mind you, it’s not all bad at the snack cart: The macaroni and cheese balls as well as the meatballs and pumpkin donut holes are excellent!

The Trick or Treat walk through experience is back and a HUGE improvement over last year. This year, Trick or Treat has monsters handing out candy as guests go door to door trick or treating. Also, the monsters all seem much more at home in their houses as it were, making great use of the scenery and all having a unique personae. This was a great usage of the Trick or Treat experience and I would love to see it return in 2019.

I would still like to see one more attraction or maze added to the LA Haunted Hayride lineup just to round everything out. In the past, they had a semi-escape room style haunted house which added a ton of value to the ticket price of the event and was a lot of fun to navigate through with your friends. True Talk: Currently, the event offers general, VIP, and platinum tier ticket options. A regular all-attraction general admission ticket is $49.99 on the weekend. This allows you through everything once with a regular wait in line. The VIP ticket costs $64.99 on a weekend and allows you in everything once with a “limited wait” time in line. The Platinum level ticket is $109.99 on a weekend and promises to allow you to entirely skip the lines at the attractions as well as premium parking and unlimited access to everything. Parking at the LA Haunted Hayride is already free as the parking lot is a public lot – it’s no-charge, even if you get a spot right up against the entry of the event. I don’t quite know what premium parking they could be offering. In its improved state, I would have no problem paying for a general admission ticket to the event. There is plenty to do at that price point and you would be happy with your purchase. Now, if you absolutely cannot stand waiting in lines, I could see paying for the VIP admission. However, at this stage in the game, I don’t believe the Platinum tier would be worth your money.

Overall, the LA Haunted Hayride has taken a great leap back towards its hey day by fixing many of the issues plaguing it in the last few years. I had a really fun time at this year’s LA Haunted Hayride and can’t wait to see what they do for 2019.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood’s Horror Made Here 2018 Review

Last year, the WB Studio Tour Hollywood’s Horror Made Here event was an unexpected and welcome surprise during the Halloween season. Building a haunted attraction around the historic Warner Bros. studio lot was a brilliant idea that left me speechless when the night was over with. Now back in its third year, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour’s Horror Made Here event is back, but can it maintain its identity as a movie studio while also balancing being a haunted event? Read on to find out!

This year saw the return of The Conjuring Universe. This experience takes guests on a demonologist-led tour through the Warren’s Occult Room. A certain cursed doll has gone missing from her box. At this point strange occurrences start happening- objects flying off shelves, pictures falling on the ground. If you’re a fan of Annabelle and The Conjuring, then this one is for you. The queue line gets pretty backed up due to the guided tour, so I would hit this up before it gets too crowded.

IT (It knows what scares you) was my favorite maze of the night! This is a completely new experience than the Niebolt house was last year. The set designs were spectacular. Guests are treated to an immersive maze which includes Ben’s bedroom, Beverly’s bloody bathroom, and more. Also, don’t get me started on the floating kids – incredible. They did have the same three doors that you pick from room from last year, and this created a little problem. There is a placed Pennywise in there to guide you through. However, it gets really backed up in that small area. I think the scare actor was having a difficult time wrangling guests through. At one point, people just started to push the doors open to get out. That could cause a problem for future nights.

Escape from Arkham Asylum was the least scary maze of the night – but I am not a huge fan of comics (please don’t hurt me!) so it was a little lost on me. I did appreciate the character designs as well as seeing The Joker (with a terrific makeup job) up close and personal.

Nightmare on Camp Crystal Lake was a double edged sword for me. On one hand, walking outdoors around the historic jungle set of the Warner lot was great. But, they turned what used to be the abbreviated, Horror Made Here studio tour into a taxi service to take guests to and fro. Warner Bros. has such a storied history, the event needs to not lose sight of the things that make them unique against places like Universal Studios or Knott’s Berry Farm. I hope they bring the abbreviated studio tour back for next year. It’s one of the things that makes this event special and losing it was a felt loss.

The Exorcist: Forbidden Screening was an unexpected surprise. Guests are taken into the church in large groups and greeted by nuns and priests standing on the sides of the pews. Crosses are hanging everywhere. After a lecture about how blasphemous we all were, they played movie clips from The Exorcist. While this is happening, objects in the room start moving around, matching what’s happening on the screen. Then other stuff happens – scary stuff. Also, enjoy a bowl of pea soup from the food cart outside!

The Lost Boys Arcade was a fun pit stop to get away from the crowds. This 80’s themed arcade is a host to some of the classic video games. Also, it had terrific atmosphere with a killer soundtrack. Before you leave the arcade, don’t forget to check out all those missing person posters on the walls….

The Devils Drop is a free fall ride that they brought into the middle of the Stars Hollow town square. Again, this is a sort of double edge sword for me. It replaced the historic gazebo from the town square where last year a DJ setup shop. That gazebo is very much a part of the identity of that area of the studio lot. It’s seen in tons of movies and TV shows. I would have rather seen it there with some sort of cool photo opportunity inside than it replaced with a carnival ride. But, I digress…

The Little Shop of Horrors is the Horror Made Here merchandise shop and they are selling everything from shirts, candles, magnets, and even beanies.

The Crave Inn Cafe was small food vendor in one of the lot’s store sets. It’s a grab your food and go kind of establishment that features good pizza and fries as well as cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, salads, and hot dogs.

Ed and Lorraine’s Beer Garden was a snack stand located right next to The Conjuring Universe and hosts a variety of bottled beers, draft beers and wines. They also have snacks like corn dogs, and macaroni and cheese bites!

Fangtasia is a 21 and over True Blood themed bar that served lots of fun and spooky alcoholic drinks. The blood bag drink was a menu favorite. The bar entrance hosts a vampire bouncer checking ID’s (sorry folks, must be 21 years old to enter this fang bang) and Fangtasia dancers to greet you. If you want your Vampire fix, this place is for you.

Also happening on the lot were make-up demos. Have you ever wondered how these monsters are created? Well, now is your chance. You can attend a class and watch how it’s done. There were three demo times throughout the evening when we attended. But, this can change. If you are interested in attending this, check the times when you get there.

Stage 48: Script to Scream is always a fun experience on the studio tour, with great photo opportunity’s through out. This year, the horror theme is from the works of Tim Burton. Guests are greeted to a variety of props and costumes from Beetlejuice, The Corpse Bride, and Sweeney Todd. My favorite was the actual model village of the town used in the movie Beetlejuice. Of course, you can still take your picture on the recreated Central Perk set of Friends.  Speaking of that, you can find a working Central Perk coffee shop on the way out of Stage 48 where you can grab a coffee, or pumpkin spice drink. They serve a variety of cold or hot beverages. They also have sandwich’s, cookies and cupcakes!

Overall, the WB Studio Tour’s Horror Made Here event was a lot of fun with a variety of things to do and see. It also featured a good selection of food and drinks and makes for a very nice evening of spooks and scares. Horror Made Here runs Thursdays through Sundays in October. Cities: Skylines Industries DLC Announced

STOCKHOLM – Oct. 11, 2018 – Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order today announced the next industrial update for Cities: Skylines on PC, Mac and Linux. Industries, launching October 23rd will put one of the game’s three zones in the spotlight for the first time.

“With this expansion, players can make more meaningful choices in their cities’ industry by managing their production chains from grain to bread.” said Sandra Neudinger, Product Manager from Paradox Interactive. “The players have been asking for an industrial expansion for a while, so we’re excited to finally offer a full featured approach.”

In one of the most in-depth expansions in Cities: Skylines history, Industry becomes a larger and more meaningful part of the game with this DLC. Players can build unique factories and customize their industrial areas with supply chains for the four different resource types. Well managed industry areas will level up and become more efficient. Aside from production chains, there is a new city service for handling mail and the cargo airport eases import and export of factory goods. There are FIVE new maps, new policies, new city services, new buildings (including resource extractors, manufacturers, warehouses and unique factories) and more.

Synthetic Dawn Radio is the most far-out radio station to land in-game ever! It features 16 original new songs across four genres: 80s Electro, Vocoding Electro, Breakbeats and Futuristic Synths. Players can tune in and zone out to some stellar tunes as synth-spin master DJ Jessica Statler brings the funk.

The free update coming alongside Industries will introduce toll booths (and road tolls, naturally), which will slow traffic’s roll a bit, but generate extra income for the city. Players will also get the option to mark zoned buildings as historical, preserving their style, and the ability to create custom name lists for citizens, districts and spawned buildings.

Razer Unveils Razer Phone 2

LOS ANGELES – Razer, the world’s leading lifestyle brand for gamers, today announced the Razer Phone 2, the very definition of flagship performance and true mobile gaming.

505 Games and Ninja Theory Announce Hellblade Physical Release Date

CALABASAS, Calif. – Oct. 9, 2018 – Indie publisher 505 Games today announced it has entered into an agreement with developer Ninja Theory to bring a physical version of the critically-acclaimed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice to global retail shelves on Tuesday, Dec. 4, just in time for the holidays. The game will be sold at participating retailers for $29.99 / £24.99 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Since first launched, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has taken over a million fans worldwide on a journey with Senua, a Celtic warrior who embarks on a haunting vision quest to save the soul of her dead lover from Viking hell.
