Razer Huntsman Mini Gaming Keyboard Review

The Razer Huntsman is my go-to gaming keyboard. One thing that might not be for everyone is its size – it’s huge! Enter: The Razer Huntsman Mini, a 60% keyboard with all the Huntsman optical key goodness. A 60% keyboard is smaller than a normal-size board, removing the dedicated numeric pad and media controls. This makes for a keyboard that easily fits on any desktop or tournament play space.

In terms of its design, the Razer Huntsman Mini is about what one would expect a 60% keyboard to look like – small and robust. It features an aluminum body a detachable USB-C cable to plug into your computer. This means that, technically, you can use any USB-C cable you like – braided, rubber, coiled, or straight. The included cable is nice and braided, which I am a big fan of.

While the Huntsman Mini loses its dedicated media keys, you still have access to them as secondary key functions. This means you won’t be missing out on anything just because you have chosen a keyboard with a smaller form factor. As far as lighting goes, Razer’s Chroma RGB technology is in full-swing, producing eye-popping color at your whim. Because this keyboard is meant to take with you to LAN parties, you are able to change lighting effects without using the Synapse software control suite (even though it is perfectly compatible with that as well). You can switch the lighting modes by holding down the function key and control, then press 1 through 7 to cycle through them. Also, on the bottom of the Huntsman Mini you’ll find two different, fold-out keyboard stands to choose from – one taller than the other. This allows you to customize the angle your keyboard sits at. Unfortunately, there is no wrist rest included with the keyboard and, after typing for a while, my hands and wrist were paying for it. The keyboard is great for gaming but it definitely wasn’t optimal for typing-intensive things like, for example, writing this review. Also, using the function key to access alternate key functions takes some getting used to. If you haven’t used 60% keyboards in the past, I urge you to check out a demo of the one sometime just to see if it works with your style.

The story doesn’t end with the Razer Huntsman Mini’s external design. It goes deep into its key switch technology. The Huntsman Mini offers gamers the choice between the original purple opto-mechnical key switches and the improved red linear opto-mechanical key switches. This improved switch type gives gamers a shorter actuation distance while pressing them: 1.0mm to the original key’s 1.5mm. The new linear switch is a lot quieter as well – even more than the original linear switch seen in the Huntsman TE. However, with the linear switch comes a loss of the “clicky” quality found in the purple key switch. Buyer beware – if you like clicky keys, you may want to stick with that version of the Huntsman Mini.

Razer is upping its customization game by also offering PBT keycap sets in numerous colors. These PBT keycaps are made from a very durable PBT material and have a more textured feel than more standard ABS plastic keycaps. Its actually a big thing that the Huntsman Mini keycaps come made from PBT material out of the box. The flagship Huntsman, the elite edition, only has ABS keycaps out of the box and the difference is apparent right when you begin to use the upgraded key material. PBT has a much better feel than ABS and, after using them, I won’t be going back as far as my personal keyboard goes. Each keycap set retails for about $30 dollars.

Overall, the Razer Huntsman Mini optical gaming keyboard is a great option if you need to save some space on your desktop or need to bring your own keyboards to tournament events. It’s portable, functional, and a sight to behold. Currently the clicky variant of the Razer Huntsman Mini is available now for a price of about $120 dollars while the variant with the linear keys will be out in a few weeks for about $130 dollars.

The full game will be released on Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on August 18th. A PlayStation 4 version is also coming a little later in 2020.

Helheim Hassle is a comedic yet macabre narrative adventure game, from the same universe as their previous hit Manual Samuel, that is as much about friendship as it is about body parts. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor NJ Reopening Date and Plans Revealed

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor today announced that it will open for the 2020 season on July 23. In accordance with Governor Phil Murphy’s opening guidelines for waterparks, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor will operate with reduced attendance levels and in preview mode; then gradually increase attendance levels throughout the month. The waterpark will operate Thursday through Monday, July 23 through August, plus select days in September. Like its sister park, Six Flags Great Adventure, the waterpark will implement extensive new safety measures and hygiene protocols, including several new advanced technology systems to protect guests and employees. These procedures will be adjusted on an as needed basis to ensure compliance with state recommendations.

“We are thrilled to welcome families back to one of the Northeast’s most popular waterparks, Hurricane Harbor. The safety of our guests and team members remains our number one priority, and the new safety guidelines we have put in place are designed to create a safe environment for everyone,” said Six Flags Great Adventure and Hurricane Harbor Park President John Winkler.

Like Six Flags Great Adventure which opened July 3, the waterpark will employ an online reservation system to manage attendance, schedule guests for entry by day, and to stagger arrival times to minimize proximity exposure. Other new technologies include:

  • State-of-the-art thermal imaging for temperature checks;
  • Advanced security screening technology for touchless bag checks; and
  • Mobile food ordering.

The park’s reopening plan, which the company developed in consultation with epidemiologists, meets or exceeds federal, state, and local guidelines for sanitization, hygiene, and social distancing protocols.

“We have developed a comprehensive reopening safety plan that includes protocols designed by theme park and waterpark industry experts, along with best practices from top destination parks from around the world, which will allow guests to experience our parks in the safest way possible. This ’new normal’ will be different in some ways, but we believe these additional measures are appropriate in the current environment,” said Six Flags President and CEO Mike Spanos. Reopening procedures include:

Health Screenings for Guests and Team Members

  • Contactless IR thermal imaging will be used to screen temperatures of guests and employees prior to entry;
  • Individuals will be required to acknowledge and abide by the company’s health policies, which prohibit park entry if guests have recently been exposed to or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19;
  • Following CDC guidelines, all guests over the age of two and all team members will be required to wear face masks covering the nose and mouth throughout their visit/work day.
  • Masks will be available for sale at the front gate for any guest without one; and
  • Masks will not be required on waterslides, water attractions, or in pools.

Strictly Enforced Social Distancing

  • Easy to identify distance markers will be added in all park entry, ride, restroom, retail locations, and dining queue lines;
  • Dining areas will be adjusted to allow ample space between seated parties;
  • Advanced security screenings will enable touchless bag checks;
  • Capacity at indoor venues and on some attractions, including the Wave Pool and Lazy River, will be reduced to meet social distancing requirements;
  • Guests will be allowed to ride on a tube with family/group members, but will not be allowed to share a tube with those not in their immediate party; and
  • A limited number of complimentary lifejackets will be available upon request; however, families are encouraged to provide their own coast-guard approved lifejackets for children under 42 inches, or those who are not strong swimmers. All Hurricane Harbor lifejackets will be sanitized after every guest use.

Extensive Sanitization and Disinfecting Protocols

  • Trained and dedicated cleaning teams have been put in place;
  • Rides and handrails will be cleaned throughout the day;
  • Team members will frequently sanitize and disinfect high-touch points, including the following:
      • Public Seating
      • Tabletops
      • Counters
      • Doors
      • Trash Cans
      • Deck Chairs
      • Life Jackets
      • Tubes and Rafts
  • Restroom staff will be stationed to disinfect each stall, sink, and shower area on a frequent basis;
  • Multiple hand-washing and alcohol-based hand-sanitizer stations will be located throughout the parks; and
  • All team member work areas will be regularly sanitized and disinfected.

Sanitized Food Preparation and Service

  • Modified menus and implementation of mobile food ordering will help facilitate touchless transactions;
  • Self-service buffets and salad bars will be reconfigured to eliminate guest contact with food;
  • Condiments, self-serve cutlery, and napkins will be provided to guests with their meals as required; and
  • Beverages will be served by attendants; any drink bottle refills will be served in a paper cup each time guests refill.

Commercial-Grade Cleaning Equipment and Supplies

  • All employees will be issued Team Member Action Packs which will include the following items: a safety face mask, safety glasses, and disposable gloves;
  • Low pressure backpack sprayers will be utilized for disinfecting large areas;
  • Abundant supplies of sanitizers and disinfectants will be available;
  • Microfiber cloths will be used to sanitize surfaces; and
  • Queue line supplies, fencing, and tents will be in place to promote safe social distancing.

Multi-Layered Guest and Team Member Communication

  • Frontline team members will go through extensive COVID-19 training;
  • Safety messaging and reminders will be displayed on Six Flags’ website, and in newsletters;
  • Distance markers and physical distance indicators will be in place; and
  • Informational safety signage will be posted throughout the park.

Park Reservations System to Manage Attendance

Six Flags will establish attendance caps that will be well below the park’s theoretical capacity in order to allow for proper social distancing. All Members, Season Pass Holders and all guests with a single-day or group ticket will need to make a reservation at www.sixflags.com/reserve. Guests who need single day tickets will be able to reserve during the purchase process. The process will take 5-7 minutes, and guests will complete the following steps:

  • Enter their online order number, ticket number or Membership/Season Pass number;
  • Select the day and the approximate time they want to visit;
  • Acknowledge their understanding of the company’s health policy;
  • Order pre-paid parking, if they do not already have a parking pass; and
  • Watch a brief video describing new social distancing and sanitization procedures.

Reservations launch today. Guests will be contacted electronically (either by email, text or both) the day before their scheduled visit to confirm their intent to visit. All Members and Season Pass Holders will receive booking priority over single-day and group ticket buyers.

The Six Flags brand is synonymous with family fun and thrills for all ages. These significant new changes are designed to improve the overall park experience while keeping guests and employees safe. The park will also offer “mask break zones” in select locations to provide socially-distanced areas for guests who wish to temporarily remove their masks.

Some rides, retail and food locations may not be available during the initial opening period.  Additional attractions will operate as they become available.

Six Flags Season Passes and Memberships are currently on sale. Members can enjoy priority park entry and tremendous discounts of up to 50% on nearly all food and merchandise all season long. Gold Plus, Platinum, Diamond, and Diamond Elite levels are available featuring all the perks of a Season Pass plus other benefits including admission to all Six Flags branded theme and waterparks, preferred parking, and points that can be redeemed for free food, merchandise, and special experiences. Visit the Membership Sales Center or go online to sixflags.com for more information and to sign up today.

CARRION Soundtrack Coming Soon

Award-winning composer Cris Velasco (Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Bloodborne, Darksiders) partners with Materia Collective to release the original soundtrack to Phobia Game Studio’s CARRION. Published by Devolver Digital, the game is a subversion of the sci-fi/horror genre, putting the player in control not of the human survivors but rather of the monster attacking their facility. Velasco’s 25-track album captures CARRION’s creeping dread and otherworldly terror with darkly atmospheric music punctuated by moments of violent intensity. CARRION and its soundtrack release on July 23rd but you can now pre-save the album at https://materia.to/carrion.

“The score to CARRION is unlike anything I’ve written before,” says Cris Velasco. “While there are still melodic moments of grandeur and even beauty, the majority of the score is quite dystopian. You play as the monster in this reverse horror game. No one gets out alive, and the music won’t let you forget. The score is the monster’s inner dialogue. It should fill you with dread, helplessness, and the feeling that an unknowable malevolent entity could take you at any moment.”

Velasco has contributed to some of the world’s biggest video game franchises including Fortnite, Resident Evil, Overwatch, Bloodborne, Darksiders, Assassin’s Creed, Warhammer, Borderlands, Mass Effect and God of War, and scored television series such as HULU’s Dimension 404 and Freakish. Though he’s a prolific and versatile composer, he excels at creating horror soundscapes, and the CARRION original soundtrack makes full use of his talents. He is also a passionate art collector, curating unique dark and surrealist art exhibitions in LA and Chicago including ‘Wunderkammer’ celebrating eclectic and visionary artwork from Clive Barker, and ‘From The Depths’ showcasing paintings paying homage to H.P. Lovecraft.

CARRION is a reverse horror game in which you assume the role of an amorphous creature of unknown origin. Stalk and consume those that imprisoned you to spread fear and panic throughout the facility. Grow and evolve as you tear down this prison and acquire more and more devastating abilities on the path to retribution. For more information on CARRION, visit https://www.devolverdigital.com/games/carrion.

Paradox Acquires Iceflake Studios

Paradox Interactive, a publisher and developer of games worth acquiring, today announced the acquisition of Iceflake Studios, a developer located in Tampere, Finland. This brings the total number of studios owned and operated by Paradox Interactive to nine, with locations in six countries.

Iceflake Studios was founded in 2007 and has developed games for PCs, consoles and for all current VR and mobile platforms. The studio is currently developing Surviving the Aftermath with Paradox, a survival management-strategy game now available in early access on PC and Xbox.

“When we started our discussion with Paradox, we knew that we had a very like-minded approach. Our collaboration with Surviving the Aftermath has been excellent and showed how similar our approach to development is. So when Paradox suggested that we could become part of the family, we were thrilled,” said Lasse Liljedahl, Co-Founder and Studio Manager at Iceflake. “It did not hurt that we were fans of Paradox games ourselves, to begin with! This new step helps us to focus on our dream of becoming one of the best developers in the game genres we love so much.”

“The collaborative efforts we’ve shared thus far with Iceflake have given us all the confidence that this is a natural fit,” said Charlotta Nilsson, COO at Paradox Interactive. “Surviving the Aftermath fits the Paradox portfolio perfectly, and Iceflake has shown themselves to be the kind of partner who can help us create more titles in our core genres. Turning this relationship into a long-term partnership is an easy decision, and we’re eager to share more great games with our audience in the years to come.”

Iceflake Studios joins the rapidly growing family of studios at Paradox Interactive, which also includes Paradox Development Studio in Stockholm; Paradox Arctic in Umeå, Sweden; the Paradox development team in Malmö, Sweden; Paradox Tectonic in Berkeley, California; Triumph Studios in Delft, The Netherlands; Harebrained Schemes in Seattle; Paradox Tinto in Barcelona, and Playrion Game Studio in Paris.
