Hammerstone Studios Partners with Kojima Productions on Death Stranding Movie

Hot on the heels of announcing DEATH STRANDING 2 (Working Title) at The Game Awards, gaming auteur Hideo Kojima’s KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS has partnered with Barbarian executive producer Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios to develop and produce an adaptation of the critical and commercial hit videogame franchise “DEATH STRANDING.”

The plot for the project, which marks the first ever feature adaptation for KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS, is being kept under wraps but will introduce new elements and characters within the “DEATH STRANDING” universe. It is on the fast track with development underway.

Kojima, under his KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS banner, and Lebovici, under his Hammerstone Studios banner, will develop and produce, with Hammerstone also fully financing. KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS US and Allan Ungar will executive produce.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios,” said Hideo Kojima. “This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing DEATH STRANDING to the big screen.”

“We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation,” said Lebovici. “Unlike other big budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something far more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic “Hideo Kojima” production.”

The DEATH STRANDING franchise has connected with over 10 million ‘porters’ worldwide since its original launch on PlayStation®4 in 2019. Featuring an all-star cast including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro and Margaret Qualley, DEATH STRANDING challenges players to reconnect a fractured society after the cataclysmic ‘Death Stranding’ event. This has opened a doorway between the living and the dead, leading to creatures from the afterlife roaming the fallen world marred by a desolate society. Carrying the disconnected remnants of humanity’s future in his hands, players embody “Sam Bridges” as he embarks on a mission to deliver hope to humanity by connecting the last survivors of a decimated America.

KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS announced last week at The Game Awards that DEATH STRANDING 2 (Working Title), the highly anticipated sequel to DEATH STRANDING, is officially in development for Playstation®5. The latest title will be produced, written, directed and designed by Hideo Kojima himself. Hideo Kojima is a world-renowned game creator and auteur known for pushing the boundaries of the video game medium. Widely considered the father of the stealth genre, he is also credited with innovating both story-telling and cinematic presentation in video games at large. In 2020, Hideo Kojima received the BAFTA Fellowship, the highest accolade bestowed by BAFTA upon an individual in recognition of exceptional contribution to film, games or television.

Lebovici has been quietly amassing a string of buzzworthy films, including the critical hit Barbarian, starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgard and Justin Long, which took over $45M in worldwide box-office and Bill & Ted Face the Music, the third installment of the beloved series starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. He recently wrapped production on the genre-busting dystopian fever dream Boy Kills World, which he produced alongside Sam Raimi and Roy Lee and starred Bill Skarsgard. Lebovici is also in post-production on the feature adaption of the smash hit short film Kung Fury the Movie starring Michael Fassbender, Arnold Schwarzenegger and David Sandberg and on Yuval Adler’s Sympathy for the Devil starring Nicolas Cage and Joel Kinnaman.

The Game Awards 2022 Unveils Historic 103M Livestreams

The Game Awards, the video game industry’s year-end celebration, today announced that the ninth annual show shattered viewership records with an estimated 103 million global livestreams, up 20% over 2021’s record-setting performance. With appearances from Al Pacino, Halsey, Daniel Craig, Rian Johnson and Jessica Henwick, Hozier, Hideo Kojima, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, Keegan Michael-Key, Cameron Monaghan, Fuslie and Valkyrae, Animal from The Muppets and more, plus spectacular world premieres of games including FINAL FANTASY XVI, STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor, Hades II, Death Stranding 2, and the first clip of the Super Mario Bros. Movie film, The Game Awards once again reaffirmed video game’s position as the preeminent force in global entertainment.

Thanks to its free, no friction approach to global distribution, The Game Awards delivered over 103 million livestreams across more than 30 digital networks, including YouTube (in 4K), Twitch (with Viewer Rewards), Twitter, Facebook, TikTok Live, Instagram and Steam, as well as on more than a dozen digital platforms in China and Disney+Hotstar and other networks in India.  The Game Awards: The IMAX Experience also aired live in over 40 IMAX theaters across the US, Canada, U.K. and Asia. – On Twitter, The Game Awards delivered over 11.5 million video views of the livestream, with a 28% increase in conversation volume YoY, 33% increase in unique authors, and 31% increase in #TheGameAwards hashtag usage. The show trended #1 worldwide, including all top 5 worldwide trends, and 16 out of the 30 top trends.

– On YouTube, the livestream set a new record with a peak of over 1.33 million concurrent users watching live across all channels, up 37% YoY, with the main /thegameawards channel hitting a new record of a peak concurrent of 604K.

– On Steam, over 9.5 million unique customers viewed The Game Awards livestream, with a peak audience of over 850K concurrent users.

– On the web, authenticated fan voting for the awards more than doubled year-over-year, up to more than 55 million on TheGameAwards.com, Bilibili in China, and on The Game Awards Discord server.

– – On Twitch, a peak of 1.9 million concurrent users watched live, up 20% YoY, with the main /thegameawards channel up more than double YoY to a peak concurrent of 571K.

Pathfinder Infinite Community Content to be Officially Supported on Roll20

Roll20® and Paizo Inc. are excited to announce they’ve reached an agreement to support Pathfinder Infinite community content officially on the Roll20 virtual tabletop.

Pathfinder Infinite launched in 2021, allowing fans of the Pathfinder and Starfinder roleplaying games to publish their own adventures and game supplements for other fans of the games.

With this new agreement regarding Pathfinder Infinite, community creators will be able to convert or create content for play on the Roll20 virtual tabletop. Starting in February, they will be able to sell that content directly on the Pathfinder Infinite site so that it unlocks for users on Roll20, providing additional value for both creators and fans on both platforms. Creators can begin preparing content on Roll20 now in anticipation of the February launch.

“Roll20 lets people bring their love for Pathfinder into their games online; meanwhile, Pathfinder Infinite creators can channel their creativity into digital sales. Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay Showcase II

Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software today unveiled new gameplay videos for Hogwarts Legacy, the upcoming open-world, action role-playing-game launching February 10, 2023. The gameplay videos provide a look at the open world outside Hogwarts Castle via broom flight, a deeper look at combat in the Dark Arts Battle Arena and personalization in the Room of Requirement.

In the first section of gameplay, the player, a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the late 1800s, mounts their broom flying low over the open world. Flying above the Scottish Highlands, the player lands to explore a hamlet which provides an opportunity to meet different witches and wizards while also participating in quest opportunities. The player then mounts an Onyx Hippogriff (a Hippogriff variant exclusive to pre-orders) to traverse the landscape as it changes to winter and the land is covered by snow.

In a deeper dive of the combat, the player, wearing the Dark Arts cosmetic set, walks through the Forbidden Forest before riding a Thestral to the Dark Arts Battle Arena. The Dark Arts Cosmetic Set, Thestral Mount, and Dark Arts Battle Arena are available exclusively in the Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe Edition or for purchase in-game in the Dark Arts Pack. The player immediately casts an Avada Kedavra spell to show the enemy’s health bar instantly go to zero. Tools such as potions and plants from the Room of Requirement can be brought with the player into combat to help defeat enemies more efficiently.

In the final video, the player visits the Room of Requirement. The entire space can be personalized and the architecture can be changed as the player conjures objects into the space. Conjurations can be found at Tomes and Scrolls in Hogsmeade or rewarded for completing various activities throughout the game. Utility items like planting pots and brewing stations can also be customized. Over the course of gameplay, the player will be able to conjure the Loom which can be used to customize and add magical properties to their gear. And finally, the player walks to the Vivarium where beasts are cared for. A Graphorn, Niffler, Kneazle and Mooncalf are revealed. By petting and feeding a beast, they will give the player the magical ingredients needed to customize and upgrade their gear. A toy chest is also available to play with the beasts and the beasts can be given individual names.

Super Nintendo World Opens on February 17th at Universal Studios Hollywood

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™, the innovative, immersive and highly-anticipated themed land officially opens at Universal Studios Hollywood on Friday, February 17, 2023. So, get ready; this exciting debut marks SUPER NINTENDO WORLD’s official arrival to the United States.

This all-new, dynamic land will be a visual spectacle of vibrant colors and architectural ingenuity located within a newly expanded area of Universal Studios Hollywood. SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will feature the groundbreaking “Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge” ride, as well as many thrilling and interactive activities designed to engage the entire family within the captivating Mushroom Kingdom. Along with themed dining at the Toadstool Cafe™ and shopping at the 1-UP Factory™ retail store, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will be an inspiring, game-changing addition to the world-famous theme park.

From the moment guests pass through the iconic green pipe, a journey filled with exploration, discovery and play awaits that is entirely unlike anything they’ve experienced before. Their journey begins as they enter Peach’s Castle before venturing further into the colorful Mushroom Kingdom.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD will sweep guests into the 360-degree world of Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach where they will become an integral part of their exhilarating universe. Plus, with purchase of a Power-Up Band™ – wearable, interactive wristbands – guests will be able to deepen their interactions across the land.

As the countdown to the grand opening begins, here’s a sneak peek of what to expect:

  • “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge:” This all-new, technologically-advanced ride, inspired by the popular Mario Kart™ video game series, will seamlessly fuse cutting-edge augmented reality (AR) with projection mapping technology and actual set pieces along a moving ride track. Set against a multi-sensory backdrop of color, sound and movement, guests will be seated in stadium-style, four-seat vehicles as they navigate familiar courses through the creative use and integration of head mounted AR goggles. This unique feature is a key point of differentiation that distinguishes this ride from other theme park attractions.

The premise of “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge” is simple but equally inspiring and challenging, appealing to guests of all ages regardless of gaming experience. As part of Team Mario, guests will steer through underwater courses and courses in the clouds to compete for the Golden Cup while collecting coins to defeat Team Bowser and win. “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge” raises the stakes for guests as an intriguing and repeatable ride with a variety of outcomes.

  • Mount Beanpole: This towering landmark sits at the heart of the land and also serves as the entry queue for “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge.”
  • Bowser’s Castle: Adorned with a breathtaking sculpture of a large and powerful Bowser, this structure serves as a key centerpiece of the land, home to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD’s signature ride, “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge.” As guests navigate the winding corridors and pass through the hall of medallions and trophies of the ominous castle towards the “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge” ride, they will learn more about Bowser’s calculated plans to defeat Team Mario for the coveted Golden Cup.
  • Power-Up Band: These wearable, state-of-the-art wristbands sync with Universal Studios Hollywood’s free downloadable app to level-up the guest experience within the land and enhance its many interactive elements. These include, but are not limited to, keeping individual and team scores, collecting digital coins and obtaining keys after winning challenges throughout the land. Power-Up Bands will also invite guests to enjoy extra-special interactions with Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach. They will come in six design options with character themes and will be available for purchase both within the land and at SUPER NINTENDO WORLD retail shops located in the theme park and on CityWalk.
  • Interactive Gameplay: Within the land, guests will become fully engulfed in an engaging world of real-life gameplay, including punching ? Blocks to collect digital coins and a variety of interactives. They will discover a new dimension of SUPER NINTENDO WORLD via the interactive binoculars employing augmented reality technology positioned within the land. Guests can beat the four Key Challenges and collect keys from Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Piranha Plant and Thwomp interactive activities to ultimately allow access to the culminating boss battle with Bowser Jr.  These energetic, familiar and fun interactive games will further enhance the entire kinetic experience within the land and immerse guests into the unique world of Super Mario.
  • Toadstool Cafe:  The land’s signature restaurant Toadstool Cafe will serve a gourmet menu perfected by Chef Toad where he will greet guests upon entry. Menu items prepared fresh daily include Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots, Super Mushroom Soup, Piranha Plant Caprese, Mario Bacon Cheeseburger, Luigi Pesto Chicken Burger, ? Block Tiramisu and Princess Peach Cupcake.
  • 1-UP Factory: What better way to commemorate a visit to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD than to visit the 1-UP Factory retail shop to purchase collectable memorabilia. The 1-UP Factory will offer an extensive selection of merchandise from Mario and Luigi themed apparel to iconic character hats and an array of plush characters, including Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Bowser.
