Creepy Jar Unveils StarRupture

Earlier this year, as part of the summer edition of the PC Gaming Show, Creepy Jar, the Polish studio behind the highly acclaimed survival simulator, Green Hell, revealed their anticipated next title, Chimera. An ambitious cross between base building, exploration, combat, and resource management on an alien planet torn by a catastrophic cycle of destruction caused by its life-giving star, Creepy Jar is excited to finally be able to reveal the game’s new title—one that the studio feels to be much more representative of the unique world they’re creating—calling it StarRupture.

Being built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, the development team decided that the name Chimera and its mythological connotations didn’t accurately fit their vision. Speaking on this, Creepy Jar founder and CEO, Krzysztof Kwiatek said, “We wanted to come up with a new title that more accurately described the dangerous sci-fi world we’re creating.”

Kwiatek continues, stating, “We had to break away from the mythology-based roots of Chimera and we landed on StarRupture. Originating from the base word ‘rupture’—as in a break or a disturbance—the new name also closely ties to the name of the planet’s star which is aptly named, Ruptura.”

The unique name ‘StarRupture’ also facilitates the promotion of the game and its online positioning, as well as enables better global protection of the verbal trademark. For a deeper look into the name change and everything that the team’s been working on since the game’s reveal, Creepy Jar has released the first in what will be an ongoing series of devlogs for StarRupture:

As the developers work towards StarRupture’s Early Access PC launch, Creepy Jar will release further devlogs in the coming months for exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at the development process. Everything from production milestones to sneak peeks at some of the game’s many mechanics, enemies, and mysteries are all on the table. Known for their eagerness to be transparent with their community, Creepy Jar is excited to continue sharing updates with fans of StarRupture as much as they focused on doing so with Green Hell.

StarRupture sets itself in the story of man versus nature taking place in an otherworldly and breathtaking sci-fi environment where elemental cataclysms of extreme temperatures loom as a constant danger. The player takes up the mantle of a convict exiled from the Earth to serve their sentence by mining and expanding industrial production alongside researching new technology on a seemingly hospitable new planet rife with mystery and danger. Tasked with surviving the waves of fiery inferno or extreme cold—not to mention facing down against hostile enemy monsters in tense combat—each cycle spells destruction yet ushers in a new era of growth and rebuilding. Whether solo or as part of an up-to-4-player co-op experience, players will explore, adapt, mine, gather resources, and build complex machinery to survive and prosper.

Though by definition it is a base-building simulator, StarRupture is much more. The game will invite players to push beyond, to stay resilient and sharp against every assault, building and forming prior to the cycling eviscerating conditions on an otherwise beautiful planet. For fans of builders, management, sci-fi action, and combat StarRupture will challenge all comers to utilize the technology at their fingertips and weather both the extremities and fierce enemies in order to survive and create a prosperous industrial complex.

ARROW Unveils January 2024 Lineup

ARROW kicks off the New Year on January 5 with a deep dive, courtesy of the star of The Stylist and After Midnight as well as the director of 12 HR Shift and Torn Hearts.

Brea Grant Selects (UK/ IRE/ US/CA): “I am thrilled to be teaming up with Arrow to share some of my all-time favorite horror movies with you. From the delightful to the horrifying, these movies remind me of why I wanted to make movies in the first place (yes, including Basket Case).”

Titles Include: Ringu, The Stylist, The Leech.

Also on January 5, audiences in every territory can discover a new short homage to the Spaghetti Westerns of years gone by.

They Call It… Red Cemetery (UK/IRE/US/CAN): Among the crosses of an old cemetery, two outlaws have a dispute over honor, companionship and greed.

On January 12, look back at genre-bending cinema history with Cult Classics (UK/ IRE/ US/CA).

ARROW have been championing Cult for over twenty years. They love everything that’s interesting and alternative and they think you will too. They’re going to show you what you’ve been missing. They’re going to show you that Cult is not just horror, it’s about alternative storytelling and iconic filmmaking. It’s about viewing that challenges you and that is not like what anyone else is offering.

Titles Include: Children of the Corn, Re-Animator, Hellraiser.

On January 15, prepare to be buried with a cultural icon, anti-establishment statement, sadistic lord of carnival horror in Inside the Mind of Coffin Joe: Part One (UK/ IRE/ US/CA). A host of Coffin Joe titles are available in Part One of the collection with brand new restorations.

With his iconic long fingernails, top hat and cape, Zé do Caixão (Coffin Joe) was the creation of Brazilian filmmaker José Mojica Marins, who wrote, directed and starred in a series of outrageous movies from 1964 to 2008.

An unholy undertaker in search of the perfect woman to propagate his bloodline, Zé do Caixão made his screen debut with the first Brazilian-produced horror film, At Midnight I’ll Take Your Soul. Three years later, his quest would continue in This Night I’ll Possess Your Corpse, with Zé embarking on an even more brutal campaign of terror, aided and abetted by his hunchbacked assistant.

The Strange World of Coffin Joe, meanwhile, is an anthology of three short horror films featuring a strange dollmaker, a necrophiliac balloon seller with a foot fetish, and a psychotic professor involved in sadistic rituals. Sex, perversion and sadism abound in The Awakening of the Beast as a psychiatrist experiments on four volunteers with Lsd in this surreal examination of 60s drug culture.

Diverging from horror toward satirical black comedy, The End of Man sees a naked stranger emerge from the sea to perform miracles in a nearby town and become a modern messiah whose deeds will affect the whole world.

Newly restored from the best available elements and packed with new and archival extras, Inside the Mind of Coffin Joe is a love letter to one of the great iconoclasts of horror, who forged his films in the face of military dictatorship and religious censorship to become Brazil’s national Boogeyman. Keep your eyes peeled for Part Two.

Titles Include: At Midnight I’ll Take Your Soul, This Night I’ll Possess Your Corpse, The Awakening of the Beast.

Six Flags Great Adventure Holiday in the Park 2023 Review

My husband and I visited Six Flags Great Adventure to celebrate the Holiday in the Park, and we had a fantastic time! The moment you walk into the park, the holiday decorations and festivities immediately draw you in, with holiday music playing everywhere you go. Many took advantage of the bonfires throughout the park to warm up by or roast a marshmallow for their s’more, while others walked with hot cocoa in mittened hands.

Six Flags does an excellent job of making you feel like the holidays are all around you instead of keeping its decorations solely around its entrance area. The musicians were also decked out in holiday attire as they played holiday music, and their reindeer dancers kept the fun going later in the evening with festive performances of classic and unexpected songs reworked with holiday themes.

We spent time in the arcade playing old games we loved, and we rode the Buccaneer ride, laughing and screaming with the other patrons. We were mostly there to enjoy the ambiance this time around, and Six Flags didn’t disappoint. Getting a spiked eggnog drink within a giant igloo was the perfect way to end our evening as we watched the fake snow fall outside.

This was a wonderful experience, and those with kids would also have a blast enjoying the many rides and attractions throughout the park. Don’t forget to say hi to Santa! Holiday in the Park runs from now until January 1st, 2024. Check out the official website for ticket information and event scheduling.
