Valve Confirms DOTA 2 is FtP

May 31, 2012 – Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today confirmed that Dota 2 will be free to play and announced the Dota Store in preparation for the game’s release.

Upon its opening, the Dota Store will offer items created by Valve and members of the community that may be used immediately and carried over after the public launch of the game. Early Access to the game is not required to purchase items before launch. However, gamers may get into the game now by purchasing the Dota 2 Early Access Bundle of items.

“The opening of the Dota Store is a big part of our final push to launch,” said IceFrog, design lead on Dota 2. “With support for the Steam Workshop, the majority of the items made available on day one were created and being sold by members of the community. By making the game Free to Play, we hope to give gamers the ability to decide how – and how much – they want to invest in the game.”

Targeted for full release on the PC later this year, Dota 2 promises to take the unique blend of online RTS and RPG action that has made Dota popular with tens of millions of gamers around the world.

Later this summer Valve will host the International Dota 2 Championships 2012 in Seattle, WA.

Turtle Beach and MLG Announce Partnership and E3 Presence

Natsume Unveils Details of ‘Project Happiness’

Heroes in the Sky Announces Worldwide Occupational War

Sunnyvale, Calif. Occupational War is the biggest battlefield that Heroes in the Sky offers to players.  Pitting Allies against Axis, players can compete and acquire territories within the map, and then must defend them against the hordes of the enemy.  GamesCampus will be presenting a global twist to the map during the Occupational War Event, which pits the world’s best against each other regardless of faction, but by region!

Players will be able to register by opting into the Occupational War via the character screen.  European players will be suiting up against players from the U.S.A. to determine once and for all which region has the most firepower.  Special events for the worldwide Occupational War take place on the following days and at the following times, 5/31 to 6/3:

Rewards will be based on the number of kills/assists/deaths each player acquires; 3 kills, 6 assists or 9 deaths. A player’s recorded kill will grant them an item from a random set, including Techs, specialty-items and more. The winners’ side, whether it is Europe or U.S.A., will have a server-wide EXP/GEM/Drop Rate Event after the tallies have been finalized.  The participants on the losing service will be rewarded with similar in-game and cash items, in reduced amounts.

While all pilots are welcome to join into the event, to ensure the most even playing field, items and aircrafts must be below level 90 to qualify, including premium aircrafts.  To help players get geared up, a Gear Lab event will run on the U.S. servers that allow players to create, strengthen, and refine their pre-90 gear!

World of Warplanes Closed Beta Underway

31st May 2012 — Wargaming.net, the award-winning game publisher and developer, today announced that its highly anticipated free-to-play MMO title World of Warplanes has taken to the skies for its closed beta, inviting players to experience an expanded amount of in-game content, including new warplanes, maps and other features.

Eligible closed beta pilots in Europe, North America and Russia will be able to get into the cockpit and take control of the skies with four warplane classes, including fighters, ground-attack planes, heavy fighters and carrier-based aircraft spanning 59 different warplanes from Germany, the United States and the U.S.S.R.

Across four unique maps, pilots can unleash devastation on their competition with new weaponry, including bombs and rockets, and against new ground targets such as anti-aircraft guns. New players can also take part in an in-game tutorial to polish their skills.

Wargaming.net plans to actively recruit pilots during the entirety of the closed beta to further incorporate player feedback and better improve the gameplay.
