Denard Robinson Wins NCAA Football Cover Vote

March 12, 2013 – The dust has settled and former University of Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson has emerged as the next NCAA Football cover athlete. Robinson faced a heated battle against Texas A&M wide receiver Ryan Swope in the finals, but was able to emerge victorious.

Once Robinson was announced as a potential cover athlete, the NCAA record-holder for most career rushing yards for a quarterback rushed to TwitterFacebook and other social media outlets to encourage fans to vote. Denard had a little help from his friends, getting support from former Michigan wide receiver Roy Roundtree, Heisman winnerDesmond Howard and others.

Michigan proved to be a powerhouse throughout the Cover Vote, consistently placing amongst the top finishers in every round. The university utilized its classic traditions, devoted alumni and strong national recognition to secure its advancement through the early rounds, and then threw all its support behind Robinson once he was announced as a potential cover athlete.

Over the duration of the campaign the NCAA Football Cover Vote secured over 5 million votes from college football fans across the country. Fans showed their passion throughout the competition, coming out in support of their favorite schools and athletes and making this the most successful Cover Vote in franchise history.

STAR TREK The Video Game Introduces Important Vulcans

March 12, 2013 — On April 23, STAR TREK® The Video Game reunites the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise for an amazing, completely new Star Trek adventure – and alongside Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Uhura, Chekov and Sulu will be two new characters making their first appearances in the Star Trek universe

As the game begins, Kirk and Spock are called to aid in the rescue of a mysterious space station that is heading towards catastrophe.  Upon their arrival, Kirk and Spock meet a female Vulcan scientist named T’Mar, who plays a prominent role in the action-packed journey that awaits.

“T’Mar is the captain of the space station and was a childhood friend of Spock,” says Paramount Senior Vice President and Executive Producer Brian Miller.  “Her blend of incredible intelligence and unexpected beauty prove intriguing to Kirk.”

As the story progresses, T’Mar joins Kirk and Spock as they travel to New Vulcan, a planet that orbits a binary star and was colonized by Vulcans after the destruction of their home world, seen in 2009’s Star Trek.  There, they find Surok – a great Vulcan leader.

“When we crafted this story we wanted to make sure the player realizes that the usually logical, Spock can have very emotional connections to the ones he cares about,” adds Miller.  “Surok was one of Spock’s childhood mentors and is also T’Mar’s father. Together, they are helping to lead the colonization of New Vulcan.”

As the game progresses, players will learn that Surok is one of the lone survivors of a vicious attack on the New Vulcan planet by the villainous Gorn.  Why they have attacked and what they want are at the heart of STAR TREK The Video Game.

“Video games are not only exciting to play, they’ve become a compelling medium for telling stories, so with Star Trek, we had an amazing opportunity to introduce new characters that are integral to the plot of our game,” Miller says. “Our game’s story is canon to the new Star Trek universe, so we had a great responsibility to get these new characters right, and to make them exciting and meaningful to players.”

Throughout the story, both T’Mar and Surok play key roles in helping Kirk and Spock uncover more about the brutal attacks that the Gorn have been engaging in across the galaxy.  They also reveal that the Gorn have stolen a mysterious machine known as the Helios Device – one whose functions could prove disastrous in the hands of an enemy as ruthless as the Gorn.

“For players who want to simply enjoy the experience of playing as Kirk and Spock, Star Trek is going to be a great game experience,” Miller says. “But for those eager to dig deeper into a robust story, we hope it’s an adventure that will excite both longtime fans and game enthusiasts alike.”

Outlast Playable at PAX East

World of Tanks Wins Guinness Record

The number of gamers logged on to one of the five servers of the Russian gaming cluster reached the triple-figure mark of 190,541 players on January 21, 2013.

With more than 50 million gamers worldwide and peak concurrent user count of 815,000 players in Russia alone, the company is on the leading edge of the online games market.

ESPN and EA Sports Kick Off Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – March 11, 2013 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) and ESPN today announced the official players and brackets for the Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote. The vote will include two brackets, one composed of 32 new-school NFL stars and one of 32 old-school NFL legends, with the winner of each bracket facing off in the finals for the right to appear on the cover. The Madden NFL Cover Vote has proven to be extremely popular with the fans, garnering over 33 million votes since its introduction in 2011.

The new school vs. old school format is especially fitting for the 25th anniversary of the Madden NFL franchise, as this edition of the game both celebrates the past while laying a strong foundation for the future. The name Madden NFL 25was chosen in celebration of the franchise’s silver anniversary, and the game will launch on August 27.

Throughout the competition, fans can vote for all their favorites by visiting ESPN.com/MaddenVote starting today with all 32 old-school and new-school matchups. And, for the first time ever, SportsNation will debut a limited window of live Twitter voting during their show every Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. ET on ESPN2.  Voting starts now and will continue up until the reveal of the winner on Wednesday, April 24.

The first round of the competition promises to offer plenty of excitement, with several high-profile matchups. In the old-school bracket Hall-of-Famer Curtis Martin takes on former Pittsburgh Steeler Jerome Bettis in a battle between two of the top running backs of the previous decade; while in the new-school bracket feared Broncos linebacker Von Miller will do his best to prevent New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz from salsa dancing into the next round.
