Larger than life portrayals of the seven deadly sins and their consequences will “echo from the rift” and come out to play in one of the most paranormally active sites in all of California. Celebrating its sixth season, Los Angeles Haunted Hayride boasts NEW experiences including two Apocalyptic-themed mazes (“House of the Horsemen” and “Seven Sins Sideshow”), a 40-foot long Leviathan, an interactive theatre production (“Theatre Macabre”), the world-renowned Street Drum Corps (“Blood Drums”), and the FIRST sway polers to the United States. “Each year is a challenge to develop something completely unique that we know our attendees haven’t seen before…a challenge to out-do ourselves,” explains Melissa Carbone, CEO of Ten Thirty One Productions. “This year, we’re going to dizzy our attendees with mind blowing content that has never existed in this space by tapping techniques and skill sets that we had to import from other countries because they do not exist in the U.S. Even my jaw is to the ground!”

On October 9th, Los Angeles Haunted Hayride hosts its annual “Black Carpet Premiere Night” for select press, sponsors, and celebrities. Past celebrity attendees include Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Jillian Michaels, Nikki Reed, Megan Fox, Sarah Hyland, Lucy Hale, Chris Colfer, Chord Overstreet, Stephanie Pratt, David Beckham, Emmy Rossum, Sarah Silverman, Ryan Gosling, Kristin Ritter, Giles Nissan and more.

In this year’s Purgatory, a haunted village that entertains guests while they wait in line, new experiences include:

  • “House of the Horsemen” is approximately a 15-minute experience sending guests face to face with the four Horsemen of The Apocalypse, embodying Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death.
  • “Seven Sins Sideshow” is a maze where the most depraved and deadly lurk from flesh and furniture melting into one, a human pig-machine vomiting riches from its muzzle, to even a race of carnivorous celestial Entities thriving on the fat from human hosts.

The Purgatory main stage will be reintroduced as “Theatre Macabre,” where the audience members become the stars. This audience participation, interactive theatre features famous scenes from iconic horror films such as The Lost Boys, Exorcist, Carrie, Psycho and more.

Also new to Purgatory this year, are the world-renowned Street Drum Corps. Instead of it raining blood last year, Street Drum Corps will be splashing guests with their high energy, drum and percussion show. Returning to Purgatory are the crowd favorites “In-Between Dark Maze”, a black labyrinth that sends patrons into the darkness with nothing but a low voltage lantern, and “Death Row,” an interactive room that allows guests an up close and personal look at devices of death used throughout history. Also returning is the Scary- Go-Round, House Of Mirrors, Jack’s Carving Shack, Death Row, Psychics, Freak Shows, Demonic Stilt Walkers, and more.

Los Angeles Haunted Hayride will be open from October 3rd –31st

General Admission is $30, All Attraction Pass is $42, and VIP pass is $58 (allowing guests to surpass any line).

All Attractions Pass and VIP Pass allows access to “House of The Horsemen” and “Seven Sins Sideshow.” Each purchase supports the LA Parks Foundation, preserving parks for the people of Los Angeles. Los Angeles Haunted Hayride is a Fur Free Attraction; there is plenty of blood and guts on the ride!

LG to Unveil 21:9 Curved UltraWide Monitor and More at IFA 2014

ultrawide-lg-curved

SEOULAug18, 201― LG Electronics (LG) will be unveiling its newest IPS 21:9 Curved UltraWide Monitor (model 34UC97) and other compelling monitor offerings at IFA 2014 in Berlin, Germany. The world’s first monitor to incorporate a curved IPS screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio, the eye-catching 34-inch monitor provides remarkable picture quality and a range of convenient connectivity options. Also to be introduced at IFA 2014 will be the stunning Digital Cinema 4K Monitor (model 31MU97) and the feature-packed Gaming Monitor (model 24GM77), both combining superior performance with modern style and versatile functionality.

LG’s flagship IPS 21:9 Curved UltraWide Monitor is a complete monitor solution, equally suited to the needs of professional users and home entertainment enthusiasts with extra screen real estate so users can get more done in less time. By adding a gentle curve to a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor, LG has created a unique product that delivers a more immersive experience. The Quad HD resolution display with 3440 x 1440 pixels gives digital photographers and filmmakers the level of detail and accuracy that their work demands. Compatible with both PCs and Macs, the LG 34UC97 monitor easily handles heavy graphics and videos with ease on either system and supports Thunderbolt™ 2 for high-speed data transfers ― four times faster than USB 3.0 ― and allows multiple devices to be daisy chained together. The monitor also features MAXX AUDIO and 7W stereo speaker system guaranteed to deliver peak audio performance across all frequencies.

In addition to the world’s first 21:9 Curved UltraWide Monitor, LG will be unveiling its Digital Cinema 4K Monitor for the first time at this year’s IFA. LG’s Digital Cinema 4K Monitor meets the Digital Cinema Initiative’s standard for 4K resolution displays, squeezing 4096 x 2160 pixels into a 31-inch screen, for resolution equivalent to four Full HD monitors. The 31MU97 model allows professionals such as movie editors to watch original 4K content the way it was meant to be seen. The Digital Cinema 4K Monitor employs an LG IPS 4K display that provides ultra-sharp images with a wide viewing angle. Able to reproduce 99 percent of the Adobe RGB color space, this monitor is an ideal choice for film professionals as well as for those working in design and photography. The Digital Cinema 4K Monitor comes hardware calibration-ready and also features Dual Color Space and LG’s exclusive True Color Pro calibration software.

Gamers will especially appreciate LG’s 24GM77 new Gaming Monitor which is specifically designed to handle the fast-paced action of the latest first person shooters (FPS). A refresh rate of 144Hz ensures that even the most intense action appears smooth and flicker-free, while LG’s Dynamic Action Sync (DAS) Mode drastically cuts input lag, enabling the player to respond faster to what’s happening on the screen. Other notable features include Black Stabilizer for consistent blacks across different scenes and Game Mode, which offers three optimized settings that can be applied quickly by pressing a hotkey on the monitor, with the option to create customized presets. And Motion 240, developed exclusively for the Gaming Monitor, helps minimize motion blur with a fast response time of less than 1ms.

“Many people spend more time in front of computer monitors than they do in front of TV sets and yet the industry’s biggest monitor manufacturers don’t seem to innovate at the same pace as TV manufacturers,” said Hyoung-sei Park, head of the IT Business Division at LG Electronics’ Home Entertainment Company. “At LG, innovation in display technologies isn’t just limited to our market-leading TV products but are actively being implemented in our advanced PC monitors. And that’s why we’re particularly proud to be introducing at IFA the world’s first 21:9 Curved UltraWide monitor with a curved IPS display which delivers a wide 178-degree viewing angle for an immersive viewing experience.”

LG’s next generation advanced PC monitors will be on display at IFA 2014 in Hall 11.2 of Messe Berlin from September 5-10.

Smith Optics Elite OTW Turbo Fan Goggles Review

OTWTBT49914-2R

Play the game of airsoft long enough and you will, without a doubt, experience goggle or mask fogging. Even with all the anti-fog wipes, solutions, sprays, and hoodoo rituals on the market, nothing seems to stop it entirely. That is, until you begin to look at the optimal solution to fogging – namely, getting fresh air into your mask or goggles. This can be done in passive or active methods. The passive systems are not very effective and usually rely on grilles or vents built into the mask or goggles to allow for airflow. For the airsoft player looking for the ultimate in anti-fogging tech, however, look no further than electric fans. Even better is a pair of goggles with an electric fan built into them, such as the Smith Optics Elite OTW Turbo Fan Goggles.

Using the same body/frame as their Outside-the-Wire goggles, the OTW Turbo Fan Goggles also have a built in fan unit with control/battery pack that attaches via a small plug. Right out of the box, you will find this control pack attached to the nylon headband. The goggles are very strong and durable, meeting MIL-DTL-43511D, ANSI Z87.1-2003, AND EN166 standards for protection. They are available in black and 499 tan colors and feature an included, on-headband dust protector for use when not being worn.

otw_turbofan_goggle_field_kit

The set we are reviewing came with both clear and gray tinted lenses – each of which are very easy to install and remove. Of course, the reason why this pair of goggles has a high MSRP of $180 is its fan system. Embedded into the brow of the goggles is a small, two-speed, multi-bladed fan capable of moving a nice amount of air. Simply pull off the rubber cover on the control unit, insert two AAA batteries, then close it back up. With a click of the control button you can cycle through the low and high speeds as well as turn the fan off if not needed. The nice thing about this button is that it is large enough to use while wearing tactical gloves, so you can manipulate the fan speeds in the field without having to remove them from your hands.

I was able to play airsoft games throughout the afternoon and into the early evening over at Hollywood Sports Park in Bellflower, CA and experience no fogging to report. Additionally, the area around my eyes was kept much cooler than with regular goggles, and I didn’t sweat as much there thanks to the increased airflow. Shouldering my airsoft rifle, I had no issues getting a proper cheek weld and using my optics and was consistently impressed with how solid and protective the goggles felt.

The Smith Optics Elite Outside-the-Wire Turbo Fan Goggles is easily the best pair of goggles we have found yet for playing serious airsoft games. The fan keeps fog from coating your goggles and its low-decibel noise rating won’t distract you in the field. You also get all the protection provided by the base Smith Optics Elite Outside-the-Wire goggles, so you can rest easy in the fact that your eyes will be protected.

BenQ RL2460HT 24″ Gaming Monitor Review

rl2460ht-height

BenQ was kind enough to let us borrow one of their RL2460HT, 24-inch gaming monitors and were impressed by its performance – especially given that the monitor boasts a budget-friendly MSRP of $249.

Design

Visually, the BenQ RL2460HT is of standard monitor fare. It features a black bezel and frame with an splash of red coloring in a strip around where the monitor meets the unit’s base piece. The RL2460HT is capable of both tilt, height adjustment, and rotational movements – allowing people who prefer to use monitors in portrait mode to get their wish. This maneuverability also helps adjust the monitor to the gamer’s eye-line – an important feature given this monitor’s narrow viewing angle (but more on that in the next section). Along the right side of the monitor, you will find the various button controls to adjust image quality, etc. The panel itself is of the Twisted Nematic (TN) variety and boasts a 1920×1080 resolution.

Performance

While this gaming monitor’s price point may only be $249, it performs very well with a lightning-fast response time of 1ms. Even though the monitor is only a 60Hz panel, the performance is respectable and is more than enough to enjoy the visual offerings of your favorite FPS title. Playing both Call of Duty: Ghosts on my PC as well as HALO 4 on my Xbox 360 while displayed on the monitor, I was pleased. Keep in mind that this monitor foregoes features like G-Sync or 3D in favor of keeping its price down. Unfortunately, this does mean that the monitor is not nearly as capable as showing off smooth motion and high-detail of 120Hz+ monitors. If you are used to that caliber of display, you probably will not like what you see here. In terms of connecting to the monitor, the RL2460HT features several inputs on its bottom edge, with 2 HDMI ports, 1 DVI-DL port, 1 D-sub pot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack available for users.

Movie watching on this monitor proved alright, but I did notice that the overall image/color quality of the panel seemed slightly “bland”, for lack of a better adjective. It performed well for its price point, but if you are a movie snob, you probably want to save for something more expensive. Adjusting the image coloring and other adjustments can be done with the on-screen display which, to its credit, should be commended for being exceptionally-easy to navigate. I hate on-screen menus but BenQ has made it a no-brainer here.

The biggest issue I found with the monitor, and this stems from its panel type, is that it has a fairly narrow viewing angle, and if you are planning to use this for several people to enjoy in a room together, you may want to look elsewhere. This monitor is best served when one person is playing a computer or console that is connected to it, and is sitting in front of the display.
