Tonight, we attended the Knott’s Scary Farm preview event – a now annual presentation that brings both media and specially-selected season pass holders together to see what Knott’s Berry Farm has in store for its upcoming Halloween season. The night began a little later than intended but was underway without too much trouble. The presentation took place at the Charles M. Schulz Theatre inside Knott’s Berry Farm and was emceed by Jeff Tucker, the park’s Entertainment Supervisor.
The event started off by talking about by talking up the season pass the park is offering for their haunted event – and at $80 dollars, it is not a bad deal. Then the event switched over to returning mazes, shows, and attractions. Fan-favorite haunted houses like “Voodoo” and “Trick or Treat” will get new rooms within their haunted walls to scare guests while Elvira will be back with a whole new show. Strangely, the Mistress of the Dark herself didn’t show up to this preview event, which was odd as it felt like the audience expected her to walk out on stage during the segment on her show.
The park’s traditional “The Hanging” stage show is back, this time with tons of audience participation. Apparently, guests will be able to choose the outcome of certain parts of the show (I am assuming by applause). The subtitle for the show this year is “Straight Outta Calico”, which points to its always tongue-in-cheek razzing of the year’s best (and worst) pop culture phenomenons.
Another high point of the event came when designer Jon Cooke showed off the new laser guns being utilized within the park’s Special Ops: Infected attraction. Last year, I felt the guns were a big detractor to an otherwise excellent experience. This year, Special Ops: Infected will feature each guest having his or her own hitpoint level, respawns, gun upgrades, and more! These new guns have a ton of features and I can’t wait to try it out again this season.

Also worth mentioning was “Paranormal Inc”, an interactive haunted house where guests go on their very own ghost hunt. Not much was mentioned about the technical details of this attraction, but it sounds like a great concept and seemed to be what they were focusing on for a high-end haunted house in lieu of “Trapped”, their up-charge maze which is not returning for 2015.
*Update: The information I reported on “Paranormal Inc” is not quite correct. It will be more of a traditional, walk-through haunted house. My apologies for the inaccuracy.
The new maze, “Dead of Winter” is set in an icy wasteland filled with undead Vikings and felt similar in theme to the White Walkers of HBO’s Game of Thrones series. Finally, the park’s Green Witch character showed up with a new band of cohorts. Instead of “The Tricksters” running around making mischief throughout the park, we are going to be treated by the evil whims of the “Deadly 7”.

Also of super-cool note is that, for the first time in quite a while, the Calico Mine Ride attraction will be filled with monsters this Halloween season in a Western-inspired haunted ride/maze called “My Bloody Clementine”. This drew huge applause from the audience as having monsters in both the mine ride and log ride were essential parts of Halloween Haunt/Knott’s Scary Farm’s past.
After the presentation concluded, media and VIPs were escorted up to the theater’s observation deck where we had themed goodies. My compliments and thanks to the Knott’s Berry Farm marketing folks who made our visit possible as well as the catering staff.
Overall, this year should be a strong line-up for Knott’s Scary Farm visitors to experience and we can’t wait for opening night. Knott’s Scary Farm runs from September 24th, 2015 through October 31, 2015 with tickets starting at $39.99. Checkout their official website for more information.
August 26, 2015 – The Divinity: Original Sin 2 Kickstarter campaign is live, unveiling some of the most highly requested additions to the series. Full news below.
An epic RPG with turn-based combat, Divinity: Original Sin 2 can be played as both a single-player and multiplayer game for up to four players with both cooperative and competitive questing.
Switch seamlessly between cooperative and competitive playthroughout the entire story. Work together with your companions as one, persuade NPCs to thwart your opponents, and beware of backstabbing allies. Or, put your own goals above that of the party, and plan the moment you’ll betray them all. It’s up to you.
With Divinity: Original Sin 2, Larian Studios aims to change the way we think about narrative in RPGs, creating a world in which your history and actions shape the story, and NPCs react differently to each character.
In addition to a powerful system of classless character development, your origins and deeds will shape NPCs’ behaviors and attitudes. Your race, birthplace, and greatest feats all play a role in your journey, but watch out, as a reputation as a Traitor or Swindler can be hard to shake.
Backers will have the opportunity claim Kickstarter-only rewards including multiplayer packs, a unique Kickstarter Collector’s Edition, custom artwork, and even a surprise pack that includes handpicked trinkets, mementos and other little things that inspired the team as they were developing the game. To ensure all backers can give feedback to the team, every backer at the $25 tier and higher will receive Alpha and Beta access!
These are just a few of the features announced for Divinity: Original Sin 2. You can learn about the story, the new crafting system, the enhanced combat and more at:

Oslo, Norway – August 26th, 2015 – Amusement parks are happy places, filled with the innocent joys of childhood and the exhilarating rush of hair-raising, but safe adventure. Balloons, cotton candy and fantastic rides to be dared. Perhaps that is how Lorraine pictured it too when she brought her son Callum to one… just before it descended into the most terrifying nightmare of her life.
Funcom is thrilled to announce ‘The Park‘, a unique horror story and the company’s first single-player experience since its award-winning adventure ‘Dreamfall: The Longest Journey‘. Releasing on the PC in October this year, ‘The Park‘ puts you in the shoes of a mother whose son goes missing. When night falls and the lights go out, what follows is a short, but intense horror story set against the backdrop of an amusement park where a dark and sinister secret is just waiting to be uncovered.
“It has been very exciting and creatively energizing for us working on a single-player experience again,” says Funcom CEO Rui Casais. “‘The Park’ is actually the outcome of what started with a small group of developers experimenting with new concepts and looking at how we could draw upon the universes we have built for our massively multiplayer online games and expand upon them into smaller-scale single-player games. Something special started to take shape, and ‘The Park’ ultimately became something we are eager to share with the rest of the world.”
Funcom will reveal further details about ‘The Park’ closer to the launch in October. In the meantime, please refer to www.theparkgame.com for the latest assets and information.

Chicago, IL (August 25, 2015) – Corpse of Discovery, Phosphor Games’ thought-provoking first-person planetary exploration game, launches on PC today. As a lone astronaut venturing across the terrain of uncharted planets searching for answers, the most crucial thing on your mind is how you can complete the mission you’ve been tasked with and return home to your family.
You can watch the Corpse of Discovery launch trailer here:
Corpse of Discovery is centered around the universal truths we often grapple with as we work to figure out our identity and how to best balance our time, our most precious resource. Heavily inspired by Creative Director Chip Sineni’s experiences as a developer spending long hours away from his family, Corpse of Discovery
As you search different planets for mission objectives, map undiscovered expanses, and fight against scorching heat and wild storms, messages from home serve as constant reminders of what you have given up in the name of the mission.
A deeply personal game about the cost of ambition, Corpse of Discoveryencourages players to ask themselves: What is worth sacrificing for success?

Looks like Jon Braver’s haunted play experience, Delusion, has found a permanent location! Their production company is now building out the space but, because of the timelines involved, will not host a new haunted play in 2015. Don’t fret, however, as Braver, in a letter to his fans, stated that the location would be able to host screenings, parties, magic, and more. Additionally, he says that there will be a limited run of a haunted play experience in early 2016! So, you won’t have to wait too long for your Delusion fix!
Here is the full letter:
To our amazing, loyal and patient Delusionals,
We cannot even begin to count
Last year, I recall a guest so into the story that he begged our protagonist to sign his Playbill! This intimate, theatrical adventure means so much to so many people and we want nothing more than to share this experience further.
As many of you know, we’ve been looking for a long term and non-residentially zoned venue for quite some time. I am beyond excited to announce that we’ve found a special place to call our cryptic home for years to come! But can Delusion exist outside of the Fall season? Damn right it can. It’s interactive theatre! And strange, intimate adventures, to places we cannot even fathom, should exist any time of the year!
So for limited nights, starting early next year, you will play your part once again. And beyond the play, we’ll have special screenings, parties, live music, magic and so much more at the new space!
Ok, I know what you’re saying, “That’s amazing! But will there be a play this fall season?!” This time around, having recently found the right space, we need to focus on building out our most spectacular show yet. Of course I’d be lying if I said we won’t miss falling down the rabbit hole with you this Fall. But never fear (or do), as we will dive into another psychologically disturbing journey before you know it!
You should know that this is all your fault! You made us do it! So from all of us who create Delusion, we can never thank you enough for your incredible support. It has, and will continue to be, darkly euphoric.
Playing My Part,
Jon Braver – Creator/Writer/Director – Delusion
P.S. You made it this far! You deserve a hint about our first play at the new space:
A misshapen figure sits at the piano, his fingers dance across the keys as the darker melodies of Chopin bring him further, blissful misery.
“Death is… whimsical tonight.” He whips around and faces us.
