Warner Bros. TV and DC Announce SXSW 2018 Plans

BURBANK, Calif. (March 1, 2018) — Time to tap into your inner Super Hero! Warner Bros. Television Group (WBTVG) and DC Entertainment are inviting fans into their SXSWXDC Super Hero lair with an epic pop culture experience for the duration of SXSW (March 9–18). The DC/WBTV bunker will not only feature the House of El’s otherworldly origin story with the upcoming SYFY drama Krypton (premiering March 21), but also Gotham City’s coolest wheels, with a display of Batman’s iconic onscreen Batmobiles and Bat-cycles. DC fans can also stop by to celebrate Superman’s 80th anniversary (click here to view the Action Comics #1000 poster video) and to meet legendary DC comic book writers and artists Jim Lee, Frank Miller and more. There will be free Jitters coffee direct from Central City; exclusive beer tastings from Supernatural star Jensen Ackles’ local brewery, Family Business Beer Company; a special look at how the Constantine comic has been resurrected as a digital series; photo-ops with Teen Titans Go! and the original creature from Critters; exclusive merchandise; cast and producer signings with WBTV’s Black Lightning and more!

Located just a few blocks from the Austin Convention Center, the DC/WBTV SXSW Experience is located at 717 Red River Street (a pedestrian-only area between 7th and 8th Streets). An official SXSW Event, the DC Experience will be open to SXSW Credential Holders (and the public) from Noon–10:00 p.m. daily for the duration of the Festival (March 9–18). In addition to the centerpiece DC Pop-Up Shop, fans will be able to interact with the worlds of comics and Super Heroes within the dedicated space. Highlights of the Pop-Up Shop and DC Experience include the following:

  • The DC Pop-Up Shop: Measuring 40 feet by 10 feet, the high-tech DC merchandise shop features a free Jitters coffee bar by day/beer tasting station by night, but also interactive displays covering the history, art and influence of DC Heroes — from their earliest origins to the pop culture powerhouses that those Super Heroes represent today.
  • Batmobiles: The Dark Knight will also have a presence in Austin with a display of Gotham City’s coolest wheels, including three of Batman’s iconic onscreen Batmobiles and two Bat-cycles. Fans can get up close and personal with Val Kilmer’s 1995 retro winged Batman Forever ride, The Dark Knight’s Tumbler and Bruce Wayne’s latest Batmobile from Justice League, in addition to Batgirl and Robin’s tricked out super cycles from 1997’s Batman & Robin.
  • Superman’s 80th Anniversary Exclusive SXSW Book & Poster: Featuring new art by Jim Lee, this limited-edition book celebrating Superman’s 80th anniversary is only available at SXSW 2018. Comprising some of the best Superman stories, this latest edition includes new stories and custom artwork. Fans can also have the opportunity for legendary artist and DC Publisher Jim Lee sign the book at one of his appearances during SXSW.   • LED Megascreen & Giant Comic Panels:  On the back side of the Pop-Up Shop, facing the street, an enormous 15-by-9-foot LED screen will be running living art (motion graphics) of iconic comics and high-impact, super-powered video clips and trailers featuring DC Super Heroes from comics, film and television. Flanking either side will be a series of two dozen 7-by-4-foot flip panels featuring titan-sized reproductions of some of the most iconic comic book covers in history. There’s also behind-the-scenes looks at how comics are made and how the new animated digital series Constantine from Blue Ribbon Content and Warner Bros. Animation goes from script to screen.   • Evening Performances with LasermanOn Friday and Saturday nights, the SXSWXDC Experience comes alive with the out-of-this-world performance art of Laserman! Disney Celebrates Mickey Mouse’s 90th Birthday

BURBANK, Calif., March 1, 2018 – Today Disney announced the launch of a world-wide celebration honoring 90 years of Mickey Mouse. Since his big-screen debut in Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928, Mickey has been the global ambassador for The Walt Disney Company. From the beloved Mickey Mouse Club to today’s Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts, Mickey’s optimistic outlook and endearing personality continue to delight fans around the world every day. The cross-company festivities will continue through 2018 and beyond and will include an exclusive fashion show, a new television special, a celebration at Disney parks and resorts and much more.

The party kicks off on March 7 with “The Happiest Show on Earth”—a runway fashion event featuring a Mickey-inspired collection designed by couture brand Opening Ceremony founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon. The winning designs will be displayed this summer in 12 major train stations in France and for sale this September at Galerie Glénat in Paris.
  • Disney store will continue to celebrate milestone moments for Mickey Mouse with the Mickey Mouse Memories Collection (launched Jan. 2018), a monthly, limited-release series of 12 collectible plush, mugs and cloisonné pins inspired by Mickey’s most memorable movie roles.

  • D23 and the Walt Disney Archives, in partnership with Walt Disney Animation Studios, have commissioned legendary Disney animator Mark Henn to paint Mickey’s official 90th birthday portrait. Henn follows in the footsteps of artists such as Disney Legend John Hench, who crafted five of Mickey’s official portraits. Henn animated Mickey for Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983) and is currently at work on Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 (2018)The new portrait will debut on the cover of the fall issue of Disney twenty-three, a quarterly publication from D23.
  • This November, D23 will present Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse, a two-day event at Walt Disney World Resort featuring panels, presentations and fun-filled entertainment.
  • This year’s annual D23 Gold Member gift is an exclusive box set of 23 special Mickey Mouse mementos—authentic reproductions of such treasured keepsakes as pages from the script of Steamboat Willie and a miniature animation cel from Parade of the Award Nominees (1932).

Europa Universalis IV: Rule Britannia Release Date Announced

01 March 2018 – STOCKHOLM – Paradox Development Studio will release the newest add-on to the historical grand strategy classic Europa Universalis IV on March 20. H1Z1 Launches From Early Access with Auto Royale Game Mode

SAN DIEGO  Feb. 28, 2018 – Daybreak Games® today announced the official launch of H1Z1®, the original standalone battle royale game that sparked a worldwide phenomenon. H1Z1 is now available on Steam for Windows PC with a brand-new game mode, Auto Royale™, injecting high-octane vehicular mayhem into the genre.

“In 2016, we did something unheard of – we split a successful game into two products and introduced the world to the first standalone battle royale game. The next year, we created the first battle royale esports league and became the second esport to ever air on broadcast television. The Beast Inside – Kickstarter Trailer

February 28, 2018 – Created by Movie Games, a Polish publisher and developer and Illusion Ray, a company that merges moviemaking with the game industry experience, begun its Kickstarter funding on 20th February and has already surpassed the 50% funding mark. Genre enthusiasts and gamers welcomed the campaign with tremendous excitement and support for The Beast Inside, having already reached more than a half of the $47,294 goal, with $25,324 in pledges with the deadline for reaching the goal is April 1st.

Ubisoft Acquires 1492 Studio

PARIS – February 28, 2018 – Today, Ubisoft announced the acquisition of 1492 Studio, a game development studio specializing in the development of free-to-play episodic and interactive stories on mobile.

Founded in 2014 and based near Montpellier, France, the team at 1492 Studio created the successful mobile franchise “Is it Love?”

“Is it Love?” is a series of interactive dramas in which a player’s choices shape their storyline, determines their discoveries and deepens their relationships in the game. “Is it Love?” enthralling narratives, stylized artwork and interactive design have helped make it one of the top five grossing mobile simulation games in France and one of the top 20 in the U.S.

“‘Is It Love?” already is one of the leaders in episodic, narrative-driven mobile games, with a highly-engaged community of players,” said Jean-Michel Detoc, executive director of Ubisoft Mobile. “This deal is in keeping with our strategy of reaching new audiences through smart, targeted, and highly profitable acquisitions.”

“We are delighted to join Ubisoft. “Is It Love?” is already a fast growing success, and we believe that with Ubisoft’s international network and marketing power the series has the potential to become known and enjoyed all over the world,” said Claire and Thibaud Zamora, co-founders of 1492 Studio.

This acquisition of 1492 Studio is expected to be immediately accretive to Ubisoft’s earnings. The acquisition was completed on February 28, 2018. Additional terms of the deal are not being disclosed.

Marvel Universe Unites for Children’s Charities

February 27, Los Angeles, Calif.—The Walt Disney Company today announced Marvel: The Universe Unites, an epic charity campaign combining the super powers of the cast of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War to help support children’s charities. The initiative will culminate the weekend of March 3 when shopDisney.com and Disney stores in the U.S. will donate 10% of sales of all Marvel products made between March 3-4, 2018 (up to $50,000) to Make-A-Wish® to help grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

“This movie has one of the greatest ensemble casts of all time, and we are challenging them to use their collective might to benefit children’s charities,” said Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “We’re kicking off by inviting some of the world’s biggest stars to get creative on social media to support Starlight Children’s Foundation, a charity that works to bring joy and comfort to hospitalized children and their families.”

As part of Marvel Studios: Hero Acts, a charitable initiative launched in 2016, some members of the cast of Avengers: Infinity War will receive a special toy care package filled with new products celebrating their Marvel character to be donated to children’s hospitals.

Their mission? To take a creative picture or video to reveal the new toys to fans and post it to their Facebook, Instagram or Twitter channels using #HeroActs. When their collective posts hit a million likes, they will unlock a $250,000 US donation to Starlight Children’s Foundation® from Marvel.

“Being a Marvel Super Hero gives us a powerful platform to directly influence positive change. Giving back to kids is the most impactful role you can play,” comments Marvel Studios’ Black Panther star, Chadwick Boseman. “Marvel: The Universe Unites and #HeroActs is just a fun way to support a noble cause while entertaining kids and fans around the globe.”

Marvel partners are also supporting the cause with their own #HeroActs in support of children’s charities. As part of the week’s events, Hasbro will donate $1 million US worth of cash and products to Give Kids The World, an organization that fulfills the wishes of children with critical illnesses and their families by providing them with an unforgettable trip which includes a visit to their village in Central Florida and access to Walt Disney World Resort.

Funko, known for their pop culture collectibles, will make a $1 million US toy donation to Starlight as part of the Marvel: The Universe Unites campaign.

Starting March 3, new Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War products will be included in the Marvel: The Universe Unites Amazon Wish List, enabling consumers to send toys directly to Starlight.

Rounding out the week, on Saturday, March 3, and Sunday, March 4, shopDisney.com and Disney store will donate 10% of weekend Marvel product sales to Make-A-Wish® (up to $50,000 US) in support of Marvel: The Universe Unites.
