BenQ X3000i 4K HDR Gaming Projector Review

The BenQ X3000i is a 4K HDR gaming projector with a great balance of performance and features. Coming in at about $1900 Dollars, it’s certainly not the cheapest projector on the market, but it’s also not the most expensive. And, for its heft price, it offers a metric ton worth of value. Opening the BenQ box and placing the X3000i on the shelf, it is a sizeable product, measuring 7.8 by 10.7 by 10.2 inches. It’s also weighty at just over 14 lbs! The BenQ X3000i exudes excellent build quality as its weight and stability scream “well-made” from on high. The X3000i is also fairly easy to set up. It comes with a remote control and all of the necessary cables. Once I plugged it in and pointed it at a 100-inch screen across the room, I was off and running. It should be noted that the X3000i only connects to home networks via Wi-Fi meaning there is no LAN connection port to be found. Whether this is a factor would be up to you and your home theater setup.

As far as image quality, the X3000i’s picture is excellent. It produces a sharp, clear image with accurate colors and good contrast. The projector also has a wide viewing angle so that you can enjoy the image from anywhere in the room. One of the things that makes the X3000i’s image quality so good is its 4K resolution. With 8.3 million pixels, the X3000i is able to produce a level of detail that is simply not possible with lower-resolution projectors. This is especially noticeable in games and movies with many fine details, such as fur, grass, and skin textures. The BenQ X3000i also has a high brightness of 3000 lumens. It can produce a bright image even in rooms with some ambient light. This is a big plus for gamers who want to play in a well-lit room without having to sacrifice image quality. The X3000i also supports HDR, which stands for high dynamic range. HDR is a technology that can produce images with a wider range of contrast and brightness levels than traditional SDR images. This results in more realistic and immersive images. While the projector shines with 4K content, it also does an outstanding job upscaling 1080p content to a 4K output. It’s not as clear as a true 4K image, of course, but it is more than passable.

The X3000i is a great projector for gaming. It has a low input lag of 4ms while playing in 1080p@240Hz mode, and all the way up to 16ms at 4K@60Hz modes. This means that there is very little delay between the time you input a command on your game controller or keyboard and the time you see it on the screen. This is important for competitive gamers who need to be able to react quickly to what they’re seeing. The BenQ X3000i 4K HDR Gaming Projector also has a dedicated game mode that optimizes the projector’s settings for gaming. This mode reduces input lag and enhances image quality for gaming and I found it to work very well. There is also the ability to engage a wider color gamut at the expense of some peak brightness, but I found the color gamut to be just fine with this disabled – it’s a personal preference. One issue with the image that I did note was that, sometimes there was a slight rainbow effect. It didn’t happen all the time, but it did pop up now and again. This can be a distraction for some viewers – although, I know that several others watching with me did not seem to see it. Are my eyes just special? Possible.

Something to consider is that this projector is very much geared towards larger spaces like your living room, etc. for the ultimate home theater/gaming experience. While the X3000i can throw a 100-inch image out at around 9 feet, the projector truly shines when sending the light from its four projection LEDs out to a 150-inch screen at around 15.5 feet! The image is glorious and, unfortunately, too much for my small living space. I did test it out at a friend’s house with a large room and, again, it was simply glorious…. This being the case, if you are dealing with a smaller room, you might consider a projector with a shorter throw distance.

Additionally, the BenQ X3000i has built-in Android TV, which means you can access all of your favorite streaming apps without connecting an external device. The projector has a built-in speaker, but you’ll probably want to use an external sound system for the best audio experience. The big drawback of this is that the Android TV dongle will only output a 60Hz signal to the projector, so you’re missing out on the full potential of the X3000i. But, the tradeoff is that you get access to all the streaming services offered by the dongle. I used not only the dongle in my working with the projector, but also my 4K UHD player. My copies of John Carpenter’s Halloween, Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat, and Top Gun: Maverick all proved to be excellent pairings on this projector.

The BenQ X3000i is a great projector for movies and gaming. If you’re looking for a 4K HDR gaming projector that offers great performance, features, and image quality for the ultimate home theater/gaming experience, the X3000i is a great option – just be prepared to pay for it and make sure you have the space to accommodate its throw distance.

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria Gone Gold

Independent developer Free Range Games and publisher North Beach Games are happy to announce that their highly-anticipated co-op survival crafting title, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, has finished the final stages of development and has officially gone ‘Mithril’ (Gold) for PC ahead of its Oct. 24 launch via the Epic Games Store. The digital PlayStation®5 version of the game has been delayed and will now launch on Dec. 5. 2023 alongside a physical release at retail, with the Xbox Series X|S version planned for early 2024.

Recently, the developers shared a first look at the in-game Dwarf Creator, which allows players to create and customize their own unique Dwarven character for their playthrough in The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. The Dwarf Creator gives players numerous options to customize their Dwarf however they see fit, including distinct choices for beards and hair, accessories and jewellery, facial features, tattoos, scars, body type, and even the Dwarf’s origin, voice, and personality type.

The story of The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria takes players beyond the books and into the Fourth Age of Middle-earth, the fantastical world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Summoned to the Misty Mountains by Lord Gimli Lockbearer (voiced in-game by actor John Rhys-Davies), players band together as a company of Dwarves tasked to reclaim the lost spoils from the Dwarven homeland of Moria—known as Khazad-dûm or Dwarrowdelf—in the depths below their very feet. Their quest will require fortitude and teamwork, delving deep into the Mines of Moria to recover its treasures and in the hopes of one day restoring them to their former glory.

In The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria players will create their own custom Dwarf before venturing into the cavernous mines of Moria alone or together with a company of fellow Dwarves online. Each adventure into the depths will bring unique challenges and opportunities through the use of procedurally generated environments, creating nearly endless possibilities as players seek the deepest delves of the Dwarves. As they venture ever deeper, the Dwarves will need to ensure their metal is ready to meet the dangers that lie within, crafting resilient armours and finely honed weapons capable of protecting against and defeating all manner of goblin, arachnoid, or more mysterious foes they may encounter. Excavate the mysteries of the Misty Mountains, extract precious metals prized by Dwarves, rebuild and refire forges that have long since gone cold, and learn the secret of the Shadow that lurks within.

Developed by Free Range Games and Published by North Beach Games, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria will launch on Oct. 24 for Windows PC via the Epic Game Store with an MSRP of $39.99 USD / €35.99 EUR, and T for Teen ESRB and PEGI 16 ratings. The title will release on the PlayStation®5 both digitally and at retail on Dec. 5 2023, with the Xbox Series X|S version planned to launch in early 2024. CORSAIR Launches Flagship Platform:6 Modular Computer Desk

CORSAIR®, a world leader in high-performance gear and systems for gamers, content creators, and PC enthusiasts, today released the Platform:6 Modular Computer Desk. Building upon decades of experience delivering industry-leading gear, CORSAIR is once again setting a new benchmark with the Platform:6. In collaboration with the experts at Elgato, one of the most trusted names in streaming and content creation, CORSAIR has created a desk that meets the wide-ranging and ever-changing needs of gamers, creators, and professionals everywhere.

The Platform:6 is a testament to CORSAIR’s commitment to excellence, delivering a combination of premium materials, exceptional craftsmanship, a wide range of customization, and quality-of-life features. More than just a workspace, the Platform:6 is a canvas for expressing your individuality.

Three pre-configured models of Platform:6 are available direct from the CORSAIR webstore and worldwide network of retailers, but CORSAIR has also created an online configurator with a bevy of options so that anyone can create the perfect setup for their needs. The Platform:6 can come in either fixed or adjustable height, with the latter powered by dual electric motors using an LED controller with two memory presets. The surface is available in your choice of sturdy black laminate or the elegant look of dark walnut-stained rubberwood. Optional desk extensions can increase the Platform:6’s already impressive surface area by 33%, and come with side pegboards for even more organization.

Keeping an organized, aesthetically pleasing desktop can be a challenging task for anyone these days, and the Platform:6 was crafted to meet that challenge head-on. A six-foot wide surface offers the space to comfortably fit a PC and peripherals, while a built-in CORSAIR RapidRoute wire management tray, cable routing accessories, and in-desk storage cubby keep everything else out of sight for an easy camera-ready setup. Included movable power strips with USB Type-A and Type-C charging come ready for all your devices both big and small.

The modular rail system at the back of the desk is ideal for mounting meeting or streaming gear such as cameras, lights, and microphones, and utilizes a universal standard aluminum T-Channel crossbar for compatibility with hundreds of aftermarket attachments and accessories. Because multi-monitor setups are so commonplace nowadays, every Platform:6 features dual monitor arms as a standard inclusion, attaching to the rail for mounting up to two 32” monitors (or a single ultrawide 34”).

The optional Elgato Multi Frame is a streamer’s dream, attaching to the base rail system to more than double your rail space and provide even more mounting options. Integrated adapters for Elgato Master Mount and Flex Arm (sold separately) make it fast and easy to position streaming gear just about anywhere on or above the Platform:6, while pegboards and side shelves offer plenty of space to hang and display accessories or swag. Elgato Multi Frame is included in the pre-configured Platform:6 Creator Edition, or can be selected as an add-on through the configurator.

“The Platform:6 is a reflection of CORSAIR’s commitment to meeting the needs of our customers from all walks of life,” said George Makris, Director of Home Tech Product Marketing at CORSAIR. “Working tirelessly alongside our colleagues at Elgato, we’ve put together a desk that raises the bar for quality, versatility, and innovation while exceeding all expectations.”
